Hello everyone,
Recently, I put forward an idea to ossie85, our illustrious W15 organiser about a pre-season competition. One that he has now given me permission to run. >:D
I had thought about running a competition similar to the real-life NAB Cup, but I thought it would be much easier to organise
friendly matches! Plus the other beauty is, you don't have to compete if you don't want to. :)
Each club can opt to play up to 3 friendly matches (to be held between Rounds 2 and 4 of the real NAB Cup) against any other club of their choosing (providing the other club accept the challenge and provided they aren't already competing that week).
The games themselves will be held to current W15 rules, which can be seen here:
http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,44830.0.html
Guess that's all you need to really know....challenge away! Feel free to ask any and all questions you have about the friendlies and I'll endeavour to answer them as promptly as I can. :)
I'll also list all pre-season friendly matches here once confirmed by both parties. Remember, first come, first served! The location of each friendly match will be determined at a later date (but I'l try to give everyone one home and one away match).

Guess I'll get the ball rolling...
I'd like to challenge the Tokyo Samurai for my Round 1 match and the Moscow Spetsnaz for my Round 2 match.
Either of you interested in playing the Pacific Islanders in a pre-season friendly match?
If there is one thing our boys from Moscow love, it is a lighthearted friendly exhibition match.

maybee i havent made the fixture yet, im waiting to see what VS does about the byes, with 14 teams i think only playing each team once is not enough. May have to do something similar to the afl and play half the teams twice.
We challenge you, Oss, for week 2.
Come at us Oss :D
I wouldn't do that Holz. I think it would be easier to not play during byes and play 1-10 and 14-18 with finals. It wouldn't be fair to some teams if you did half/half. It will make it easier to make the fixtues fair without some people saying you rigged it to favour some people deliberately. You could also put the fixtures up sooner.

Just make it a luck of the draw scenario.
Play games from Round 1 - 10, then from Round 14 - 23, each team at least plays each other once, with some teams playing others more than once. I agree in your E15, 14 games isn't enough.
I'm up for any friendlies with anyone. Just shoot me a challenge.

If we play 1-10 and 14-19 with 20-23 that's 16 games in the season and 14 teams. So either we can have 3 friendlies for round 1-3 and than play each team once. Ia gree that could be more fair, pity there is no chance of payback. I was thinking of something not sure if it would work or be fair, but each team could have a rival and they play them in the first game of the season and the last e.g. round 3 and 19 or 3 different rivals, as i know there are some people you would rather beat than others. For me personally i would have zip as my rival even though i know he will probably beat me this year. You keep your rival the whole time the game runs and teams will go up and down so should be fair in the long run.
i am up for a challenge game

Whoever thinks they have the best midfield is free to challenge me in round 1. Someone who intends on playing 2 mids as their benchies so we can have a 6-man midfield challenge within the match itself.
Edit* Oh wait, I was looking at my DT version. Nevermind. My SC mids would get crushed.

sorry got it mixed round accidentally ::) but its fixed now
Really apologise for my absence in the last few days with the friendlies so near.
Right, to business.
Friendlies MUST be finalised by midday TOMORROW. Gives me time to organise the games on here.
Team sheets MUST be in my 7:00pm TOMORROW NIGHT Melbourne time. If any sheets are recieved after the deadline, or if none have been recieved, your team will forfeit the pre-season friendly.
As ossie as mentioned in the PM, you are to name 4 defenders, 4 midfields, 1 ruck, 4 forwards, 2 free choice players in your team sheets.
An amendment on the emergency rules for the pre-season friendlies has been made by myself, you are to name not 3, but 6 emergencies. The main reason is because I'm not 100% sure if Champion Data are providing statistics for all the regional matches.
Now...something ossie hasn't mentioned...
...for the pre-season friendlies, I have opted to trial a very hotly debated rule....the sub rule!
From the W15 Rule Handbook: One of your emergencies is nominated as a Sub. You can activate him at anytime provided he HASN'T played yet. He can replace anyone on the field (whether they have played or not) but if they have played, you'll lose that players score.
- Subs can go on in any position, but only half the score counts if they play out-of-position.
- If your sub is activated as an emergency, you no longer can activate him as a sub.
- If your sub replaces your Captain, your Vice-Captain's score counts as the Captain's score.
So for all those people that have already listed their team sheets, you'll need to update them with 3 more emergencies and a sub. If you do choose to activate a sub, then you'll need to PM me as I'm looking at providing "live scores" over the weekend.
As for the scores, well....the games will be provisionaly based on DT scores provided here on FanFooty. Once the Herald Sun provide the SC scores from both matches (usually the week after the NAB Cup Final), I will update the matches and provide final scores.
Now, if a game hasn't been covered by Champion Data for whatever reason, then you're emergencies will come into play.
Anyone have any issues, questions or concerns, just pm me and I'll help sort it out.
Oh and I'd appreciate it if you could all PM me your team sheets as well for the weekend.
Thanks,
c4.
PS. For those wondering, here are the actual NAB Cup line-ups for the weekend.

There are four games this week that are in regional locations and according to the AFL's website (link (http://www.afl.com.au/nabcup/tabid/17067/default.aspx)) they aren't being shown live (or at all) on TV or Radio. Why they have five games on at the same time is beyond me.
Sydney Swans vs. North Melbourne at Bruce Purser Reserve in Rouse Hill.
West Coast Eagles vs. Port Adelaide at Rushton Park in Mandurah.
Essendon vs. St Kilda at Wangaratta Showgrounds in Wangaratta.

Surely Crouch is a midfielder, not a forward! Or are you happy to take half points?
Since PowerBug hasn't posted his team sheet for his first match, I'm just going to list his best 15 he posted on his thread page.
Technically Crouch isn't anything this year (same with O'Meara), as his opponent am happy to have him listed as a forward.
Probably right though, is a midfielder. Or how about we just swap Knights and Crouch and call it square?

Feel free to use this thread for some general banter as well!
GO ISLANDERS!
Random thought just occurred to me...
...why can't we have a third pre-season friendly?
There will 9 games of footy on during the Grand Final round...I'm assuming most of them will be broadcast on Foxtel and will also have statisticians providing DT and SC scores....
...question is, would you like to have one more friendly, or build up the anticipation for the inagural first round?
Definitely keen for that! In fact c4, you can we have the 2 most successful teams play off for the pre-season cup?

Well...since SC scores aren't going to be released until after the NAB Cup, the grand final participants would have to be determined by DT points. :-\
Either we:
A. Use DT points to determine the two most successful teams after the two rounds to play off in a pre-season grand final...
B. Run a 3rd week. Play the matches, and after the SC scores are in and I have tweaked all results, then the single most successful team is declared pre-season champion.
C. Seeing as they are just friendlies, another week will run with SC scores, with no cup.
I like both ideas :)

Option B also names a pre-season champ...just in a different way.
Option A. Like the idea of a Grand Final. :D
I'll say option A too...
I have a fourth option, which combines options A and B, which I think we run with.
Two teams will feature in a pre-season Grand Final (determined by DT scores from the two previous weeks) and the remaining teams can opt to play another friendly for fun.
Everybody wins.
How about that?
To be honest c4, that's always how I saw option A :) Sounds good

Yes, they do.
Obviously I didn't explain the options properly but Option A was just going to be two teams playing each other in a Grand Final, with no other teams playing.

GAME ON!
EDIT: We all know Reindeers can't run in Sand, unless it's sanded over with more sand and in that case they are still screwed. Shame it's covered with more sand, coated in ice coloured layer of sand-coloured ice, which is being protected by a sturdy layer of sand. Which is then cemented over with ice-flavoured sand.
Pity warm sand melts ice. ;D Not when we move Cairo to the North Pole :P.

To those who have got their friendly sorted, the first team sheets for this weekend have been announced:

But be warned, they have a tendency to change before the actual game without notification, so it's best to wait until Friday to name your teams.

Ah right. Although they have named 25 so I guess still need to name the emergencies...
Wait, do we still name 21?? Or 18 with 1 sub and two emergencies??
And the Crows and Eagles still have 50 subs each right??

The Pumas head coach, CF, is unsure what to make of the Beijing Bears coach. During the Bears' pre game press conference BB started to ramble on about pieces of bread and slow oxen, raising questions over his sanity. Is this all a ploy to distract the Pumas or is he really mentally insane? Only time will tell...
On to the match and looking at the Pumas squad we can see they have made a total of 6 changes to the squad that will contest in the WXV first ever preseason grand final. In comes defender Scott McMahon, midfielders Gary Ablett, Daniel Cross, Daniel Hannebery, big man Will Minson and small forward Devon Smith. The unlucky ones to miss out are Peter Yagmoor, Hamish Hartlett, Ryan Harwood, Jarryd Blair, Jon Griffin and Luke Lowden. Of these Yagmoor can feel most aggrieved about missing the final after he had performed very well in the previous 2 rounds, he does make it on to the emergency bench.
These changes have significantly strengthened an already firing Puma side and hopefully it will be enough to get the win over a strong Bears team :)

Looks like the communication at the Armadillos is the same as Ports...there using tin cans and string due to budgetary cutbacks.
port can afford string????
We're depending on using tin cans to reflect light for signalling, and using that for morse code.

Picking someone else's team for the weekend isn't allowed. I'll take care of it Zippy. 8)
k, but I think you'll find that's pretty close to it :P

We'll see... :P
40 minutes until the lockout... :o
Scott Thompson, Troy Chaplin, Nick Malceski,, Bret Thornton
Dale Thomas, , Callan Ward, Josh Caddy, Shaun Atley
Shane Mumford
Adam Schneider, Jed Lamb, Israel Folau,Lachie Hansen
wodden spoon for me i think this year, the trade idid with macca severely crippled my forward line. Plus i need mundy and barlow to come back really soon
And Chris Dawes kicks the first goal. The Magpies (both Collingwood and Seoul) off to a good start
For those wondering where the scores are for the weekend...
...I'll be writing them all up later tonight as I'm watching Collingwood v St. Kilda at them moment. ;D
can we please do my submitted team for pyro? unless you did one for him?
I mean, it's better than no team...
Looks like Pot is going to have to use his sub already with Hayes getting knocked out...

57 points to half time. Not bad at all.
I mentioned it in chat, but it's interesting to see dawes and cloke both firing on the fantasy end.
Cloke and Dawes started last season both on fire, before Dawes picked up an injury
Haha, everytime i look at The Seoul Magpies side for this week, i can't help but chuckle.
I will activate my sub Sam Butler for Lenny Hayes :(
Ossie, McEvoy isn't looking very good...

Parisian Nice Lyon Reindeers.
Backs: C. Newman (VC), J. Harbrow, H. Grundy, A. Selwood.
Mids: M. Priddis (C), D. Rich, N. Jones, L. Ball.
Ruck: A. Graham.
Forwards: C. Rioli, M. Pavlich, S. Johnson, J. Grant.
Utilities: T. Mzungu, D. Myers.
Sub: K. Simpson.
Emergencies (in order): C. Wingard, L. Jones, C. Howard, A. McQualter, T.Goldsack.
*Sigh, Replacement needed in the rucks again. If Graham doesn't play (very likely he won't looking at team sheets), auto-sub in Simpson for him please (with half points) if I'm not on to do so :).
If you wanted to, you could just name Simpson in the ruck and then name another sub...you don't have to name Graham if he wont play.
I could.... but then my emergencies won't get games :P. On second thought, I should be on Saturday night.... I'll just use an emergency for Graham and keep Kade as the safety net to use before his match :P.
first 4 rounds
dawes: DT:119, 112, 99, 86
av: 104
2011 avg: 72.3
SC: 84, 97, 99, 90
Average: 92.5
2011 avg: 78.8
cloke: DT:84, 97, 99, 90
av: 92.5
2011 av: 95.7
SC: 140, 110, 89, 103
av: 110.5
2011 av: 97.7
So, while dawes fired in DT, cloke kind of underperformed in DT, despite cloke firing in SC, and dawes (while doing well), not really scoring at the same level.
to be fair though, I was thinking in terms of DT when I first wrote that post- since what we have atm are dt scores and not SC :P

And the reason is because they picked the most pointless sub. ;D
Ahhh damn! Sorry Oss, forgot about this...
I could enter a team now but it would be very depleted...no chance I can win from here!
Any chance you could just give me the same team from last week and instead of Pendles capt I'll have big Kieran Harper take over the captaincy 8)
I'm happy just to cop donuts/have my emergency scores counted etc...

Your sub. Totally wrong player, you can't activate him. :P
I'm sorry Oss, doesn't look like Gibbs will score as well as Lids... :'(

All good :) All part of keeping the lid on!
Hey everyone,
Now that the SC scores have been released I will go back and re-adjust the scores during the course of today. Once they have all been finalised, I will announce all the winners along with some stats from the 2012 WXV Challenge Cup.
However, I did take care of the scores from the 2012 WXV Challenge Cup Grand Final and we do have an official winner! :o
Head over to the thread to find out who won! :D
We've had our first result reversal! :o
Provisionally, in week 1, the Cobras defeated the Warriors 91 to 89.
With the SC scores dialled in, the Warriors have come out victors, 97 to 103!
Wow you're going back through all the scores? :o
I hope this doesn't change who was meant to be in the grand final. I wouldn't feel like it was a proper victory if I found out I wasn't meant to make it in the first place...
Also do I get a trophy so I can put it in my trophy case? :)

This was my worry. I am certain that some crucial results will be changed/
Actually don't worry about the trophy. I made my own :D

Yes, I am going to go back through all of the scores. Should be done in the coming days. :)
Also, it doesn't change who was meant to be in the grand final. Majority (of those that voted) said that the two entrants should be decided by the available DT scores.
And yes, you will get an official trophy that I'll make up, but keep the one you've got for the time being. ;)
Well I'm sure the trophy you make will be much nicer than the thing I scrapped together haha. Just needed to put something in my trophy cabinet for the time being... ;)
