Title: The 2012 WXV National Draft
Post by: ossie85 on November 21, 2011, 10:02:21 AM
DRAFT IS CLOSED

72 players, 4 picks each (there will be 72 players. If less, rookies will be added. If more, the players left over will go to the rookie/pre-season draft).

Options for the National Draft:
- Select just as a normal draft
- Opt to automatically select the highest drafted player available. You can choose this option anytime (i.e. select your first 2 manually, and than opt for automatic). PLEASE let us know if you plan to go automatic, it will make the draft go quicker.

Rules
- You have 24 hours to pick, 2 hours if you have been online during the 24 hours. If you don't pick, you will automatically receive the highest player available and can not change.
- You can choose to pass. This will give you an extra pick in the rookie/pre-season draft. I.e. If you pass your first round pick #8, you get an extra first round pick AFTER pick 8 of the rookie/preseason draft first pick.
- Jaeger O'Meara and Brad Crouch - the Under 17s - can be picked at anytime in this draft.

So if I have (Hypothetically) Pick 1 in the Preseason Draft and I forfeit my first round pick in the national draft, does this mean I would have Picks 1 and 2 in the Preseason Draft?

I can pick CF's players if you want :). I won't sabotage :-X.

Hmmm, that's a good point. Perhaps it should be at the end of the round?

@HPz, CrowsFan already talked to me about it, and is happy to be auto!

But how would you assign auto picks? Draft order I'm assuming?

Pick should go in the same place as where the national pick was forfieted. Eg. I forfiet pick 7 in national and recieve pick 7 in Preseason draft.

Oooh.... Thinking of starting draft tonight, or even now, if people are willing to risk that the player they pick won't be picked (if that happens they can pick again...) thoughts?

I'd be in favour of starting it concurrently with the actual real-life draft.

Could be cool c4! I imagine we'd get stalled pretty quickly :) Shouldn't be too tough getting through 72 picks though. Particularly since I know 7 of them for sure already....

I'm keen to see how the real draft pans out before making my pick... Not trying to hold it up but a few of the players I'm considering could go to different clubs than I expect.

He has everything it takes to become an A Grader, just needs to stop getting concussed :P.

Then it's the Luey and Longer show!  :)
No other rucks on the brisbane list, so expect plenty of opportunities for Longer.

You are correct....

Which means Sid automatically gets pick #7. NICK HAYNES

Sid can change the pick if he gets on before c4's pick, but otherwise locked in.

Sorry guys for the 70minute wait. :P

I know hardly any players, so i'll just get someone from a position i need, and he'll fit in nicely:
Brad McKenzie Appartenly he's at North Melbourne, and as i have both Jordie and Trent. :D

So we have another Gippsland Guy chumps?

Pot and Myself are from Leongatha. C4 and Hawk are Droiun while Shaggy visits Traralgon often.
Pyro and Reesbr are Sale boys. Massive Gippsland following on fanfooty :)

Need a forward and it was between 2 players. In the end the risk that one of them will become a mid was too great, so I'm going with...

Nick O'Brian (#59) for me please :)

For those who have passed in the national draft, do they get another pick in the rookie draft or do they just get picks in the pre-season draft?

All I know is that the get the equivalent pick that they gave up. Eg. Pass pick 66, recieve pick 67 in Preseason.

All I know is that the get the equivalent pick that they gave up. Eg. Pass pick 66, recieve pick 67 in Preseason.

The PSD and Rookie Draft are completely seperate to each other.

In real life, if a team passes in the National Draft, then they have the right a to pre-season pick. This is why teams like Freo, Richmond, Port Adelaide have passed, so they can pick up players like Zac Dawson, Addam Maric, Leon Davis, John McCarthy, etc. This is where I thought our passed picks were going to.

The real Rookie draft will have 90 picks available, 5 picks in reverse ladder order. (GWS then GC then PA then Bris etc.). If teams havent cleaned out their rookie list, then they will obviously have to pass in those later rounds.

So, are we just combining the two drafts into one giant one? I don't like that...  :-\

EDIT: IMO, this is how the PS/R draft should work:

Pre-season draft

1. PowerBug (first to pass)
2. PowerBug
3. pothead
4. If MC decides to Pass, he'd slot in here
5. c4v3m4n
6. Sid if he chooses...
7. ML etc.

Rookie Draft

Same order to the National Draft.

That's how it would be done in real life...and since we are trying to make this as realistic as possible, wouldn't this option make the best sense?
Title: Re: WXV: The National Draft
Post by: Maca24 on December 05, 2011, 02:00:58 PM
well if that was the case C4 then I would have passed my last 2 picks.
So it would be unfair to change the rule now.

It should be a giant draft like we agreed to and a random reverse order.
Otherwise it is unfair on everyone else...

DRAFT IS OPEN

- You can choose to pass. This will give you an extra pick in the rookie/pre-season draft. I.e. If you pass your first round pick #8, you get an extra first round pick AFTER pick 8 of the rookie/preseason draft first pick.

^^ says on the first page guys, the whole time.

Would love to separate the preseason and rookie drafts, BUT we are restricted by the amount of players chosen in the ACTUAL draft.

There's only likely to be what, half a dozen players picked? We're not going to have a rookie system like the AFL, has way too many complications....

Next year, will be definitely be able to do something like that though c4 :)

I think people are forgetting we can only pick players on actual lists....
Title: Re: WXV: The National Draft
Post by: ossie85 on December 05, 2011, 02:32:55 PM

Just also pointing out....

2006 example of AFL Preseason Draft:

Players picked:
1. Dylan McLaren
2. Sam Iles
3. Brent Guerra
4. Scott Camporeale
5. Matthew White
6. Ben Fixter
7. Cameron Thurley
8. Matt Thomas
9. Jason Porplyzia
10. Chris Heffernan

That was it...

The rookie draft high lights from 2006:

#2 Alan Toovey
#5 Angus Graham
#7 Paul Duffield
#20 Heath Hocking
#31 Matt Priddis
#34 Stephen Gilham
#49 Cheynee Stiller
#55 Ben McGlynn
#57 Kieran Jack

And now particularly that mature ages can be picked in rookie draft, IMO, there really isn't much of a difference between the two, given there will always be long-term injuries

ossie, I think you'll find that there is going to be at least 70 players picked....I can name them most of them for you if you'd like.  ;)

What will happen with PB's pass picks now since he was under the wrong impression?
Title: Re: WXV: The National Draft
Post by: ossie85 on December 05, 2011, 02:44:44 PM

Only about half a dozen in the presason though c4, not the rookie

And if you guys can find a post somewhere we we said we were going to separate them.....

From original draft page:

QuoteDraft in 3 parts

Initial draft only counts for players who are on 2012 lists. If you pick a player that later retires or is delisted before the season starts, than you can take another player immediately (assuming there are players left). The U17 Mini Draft players CAN NOT be selected. Brendan Fevola can NOT be selected yet, as he was not traded to another team and is now no longer on a list..

Second draft is for all players picked in the National Draft and "mini-draft"

Third draft is for all players picked Preseason draft and Rookie draft.

From survey sent out not long ago...

Quote7. How many players should be available in the National Draft?

72, 4 players selected each. If more than 72 players, the remainder goes to Preseason/Rookie draft. If less, some rookies added to make up the numbers

72, as above. But you have the option of "Passing" which gives you an extra pick in the Preseason/Rookie draft

72, as above. But you have the option of "Passing" which means you have 1 less squad member

So I'm sorry people got the wrong impression... but not sure how that's my fault or anyone elses.... More than happy to hear alternatives...

Only half a dozen in the PSD but I doubt there will be tons of people skipping picks? once it goes over then they can pick from the rookie draft?

As you can see, there was no mention of splitting the draft, or not splitting the draft. Hence the confusion.

There was no clear answer given hence why PB, Boomz and I thought it would just imitate the real-life structure.

Third draft is for all players picked Preseason draft and Rookie draft.

You can choose to pass. This will give you an extra pick in the rookie/pre-season draft. I.e. If you pass your first round pick #8, you get an extra first round pick AFTER pick 8 of the rookie/preseason draft first pick.

We didn't seem to have this confusion when we merged the U17 and National Drafts :(

Well it has to stay the same....
It was stated a few times in the thread so can't go changing things up now IMO.
One big draft random order.

True, but that's only because there wasn't any connection due to earlier drafts, unlike the ND and PSD connection via passing. It was a fresh start.

Don't need a midfielder but I'll take Matt Arnot.
Been following him for a while and I love the kid so happy to bring him into the team.

Straw poll results...

A 4: Boomz, c4, MajorLazer, PowerBug
B 6: Maca24, bomberboy0618, ossie85, Purple 77, HolzMan, meow meow

Fence: Hellopplz

So, we keep as is....

Given PB said he'd passed not because of the preseason draft but because he didn't know any players, I guess the only person it plausibly impacts is pothead, and he is so far quiet on the issue.

So steady as we go...

I actually think he was doing for PSD picks, hence why he was for option A in the vote. However he did state recently he'll still pass both his third and fourth round ND picks, as shown here. Best to ask him anyway ossie.  :)

Yeah, that confused me I gotta say. Thought he was signed on yonks ago by the Giants as one of the prelisted players, he seemed to always be on there lists, etc.... so when he was drafted in this I made him ineligible cos he's been available all this time on the national draft.

Agree/Disagree?

If he was picked up in the draft then i say sure, if not then no. Ask GWS head office about how he was recruited.

I just say we leave it. He has been available since the beginning in the regular draft after all...so if you do want him, then take him there. Plus if are to reinstate him for this draft, it'd be a little unfair for those coaches who have already taken all of their picks and may have wanted to use one on McDonald had he been available.  :-\

Well it's a late pick so may take the risk on Beau Wilkes. I'd go McDonald but don't think he should be included in this one if he wasn't listed from the start.

All good bb!

And the draft is CLOSED

Alex Brown, Cameron Ellis-Yolmen, Corey Gault, Lincoln McCarthy and Cameron Sutcliffe will be available in the preseason/rookie draft. Poor souls face an anxious wait, to see where they will land on WXVFFL list
