Team Song

(Tune of the Richmond theme song)

Oh, we are from Mexico!
Where the sun burns bright and scorches all!,

And all the people say,
We will win every time,
Our legacy is prime,
And if we sense defeat then we will pounce and fight,

Oh we are from Mexico!
And we love our nachos and tacos!

We're slow and we're old,
Still full of gold,

We are from Mexi....
Green, White and Red,

We are from Mexico!!

About to put my guernseys up now.

So my guernseys are complete! (Thanks heaps for your help C4)

With our home strip, we have kept true to the colours of our beloved Mexico (Red, White, Green) and added a sun in the middle. Very  happy with the teams strip and I believe the fans are as well. Simple and Patriotic :)

Our away strip is very flashy, with a larger sun coming from the bottom half of the guernsey.
We are stoked with both guernseys and expect to see plenty of victories in both of these jumpers! ;)

PS. Also pleased to announce Cain Velasquez as the clubs No.1 Ticket Holder!
No doubt we will see Cain at nearly all of our home matches :)

Fans speak their minds!

Mexico Fans have voiced their opinions on all things involving the new clubs progression.
All current Suns members took part in a survey, with 83% of Fans believe the list is looking fantastic, with a solid list for short term success but also a few young guys who can grow with the club. Club design recieved a 92% hit rate, with fans loving the home guernsey revealing that it's very "Patriotic" and fresh. Away jumper was also a hit with a great "Modern" design.
38% of fans have said that the clubs promotional banner was the reason for joining the club.

Great work by the franchise, and thanks to our fans who took part in the survey! :)

Club Recruiting

Well we have picks 7, 30, 43 and 66 in the National Draft.

Pick 7 - young ruckman Billy Longer. We hope Billy can replace Sandilands as Number 1 ruck when he retires. We expect big things from Longer, and will develop him as best we can. Ruck stocks are set now with Sandi, Maric and Longer.

Pick 30 - Key Backman Henry Schade joins the Mexico Suns from the GC Suns! Schade plays a similar game to collingwoods Ben Reid. Lets hope Schade can rack up some disposals and do the club proud.

Pick 43 - Midfielder Daniel Pearce is now a member of the lineup. He is a skillful small who can play a number of positions. Pearce should get some games along the way and we hope he develops nicely.

Pick 66 - Mature Ruckman/Forward James Sellar is our final pick in the national draft. We are hoping James can have an early impact as a former first round draft pick. The 22 year old will be our Mr.Fix it.

Rookie Preseason Draft:

Picks: 11, 26, 47, 62

Pick 11 - Darren Pfeiffer joins the Suns as our first pick in the rookie draft! We are very excited about his acquisition.

Pick 26 - Mark Baguley Is now a Sun after impressing us as a mature age draftee. Mark has great skills and will be a solid rebounding defender for our club.

Pick 47- Malcolm Lynch is an electric small forward who we are delighted to have on our list, providing us with more forward cover.

Pick 62 - Late pick Matthew Lodge has the opportunity to prove himself at Mexico. The Half Back improves our defensive line.

Preseason matches have been organised for the Mexico Suns.

In week 1 we will be playing the New Delhi Tigers.
In week 2 we will be playing the Cairo Sands.

We are eager to show fans how much of a force our club is, and we are expecting nothing less than 2 convincing wins!

Fairly hot trio you've got going there!

With only 4 selections left in the drafting process we have decided to reflect on our list in case a trade period emerges.

Positional Changes:
Garrick Ibbotson - Mid > Def
James Sellar - Fwd/Ruck > Def/Ruck
Darren Pfeiffer - Mid > Mid/Fwd
Daniel Talia - Fwd/Def > Def
Steven Salopek - Mid/Def > Mid
Jarrad Boumann - Fwd > Def
Dylan Addison - Mid > Def

Overall I'm happy with the positional changes.. especially Ibbotson >:D

I now have many defenders, and not so many forwards. Not a huge problem, but if a period emerges I will be looking to trade a Forward into my team in return for a Defender.

LOL. 3 Would be great :P what can I say really, I'm just greedy!
I'm very happy with my ruck stocks. May not be as high scoring as your 2, but they are very reliable ;)

Ivan's the king, but Sandi is a pain sometimes. Hence why he is on the market for the right price!

The right price you say. What do you think an injury prone 30 year old is worth?

Honestly I don't think Sandilands has much value left in him. His injury problems seem to be getting worse each year. I'm not going to trade out any good player for a guy who might play 10 games a year

Round 15
Mexico City Suns (19.9.123) Def. New York Eagles (17.9.111)

Ladder Position 2nd (13-2)

Round 16

The team has come full circle with most of our stars on the park, and looking to gain match fitness and form with the finals now arriving.

Mexico finals trip

After a fantastic debut season of the worlds competition, finals time has finally arrived.
Mexico have had a great year, and have met high preseason expectations well to finish 2nd on the World's ladder with a record of 15-2. The only team to do better was the now premiership favourites Sao Paulo. Injuries have made the mission much harder this season, with key players Adam Goodes, Aaron Sandilands, Luke Hodge and Mark Lecras all playing in less than 10 games for Mexico this season. We at Mexico have overcome obstacles and are very proud of our players for showing such grit and determination to succeed. We now approach the finals with a "nothing to lose" attitude and will throw our all at oncoming teams in the hope to make good on preseason expectation.

Qualifying Final:
Mexico City Suns (19.14.128) lost to Cape Town Cobras (22.16.148)

Best
Mexico City: J Bartel, J Lewis, Brad Ebert
Cape Town: T Cotchin, JP Kennedy, J Watson, R O'Keefe, J Grimes

Summary:
Proud of the boys, but the Cobras were just to much to overcome. Disappointing to miss out on a much needed week off, as many of our players are carrying niggles. Great first half of the game before Nick Riewoldt went down with a feared ACL injury. After a nervous wait it was found the damage was not serious, and we hope Nick can get up for our crucial game against the Spetsnaz. Paul Chapman was a late withdrawal, we gave him all week to prove his fitness but just wasn't up to scratch. He looks likely to return this week. Jimmy Bartel, Jordan Lewis and Brad Ebert were great in the middle combining well but our defence just leaked to much score.
We now play the in form Moscow Spetsnaz in a win or die match to further to the semis.
There are rumours Mexico fan favourite Aaron Sandilands could make a shock return from turf toe, so stay tuned ;)

Semi Final:
Mexico City Suns (22.19.151) defeated Moscow Spetsnaz (18.12.120)

Best
Mexico City: A Goodes, L Hodge, J Waite, B McLean, A Sandilands, B Goddard
Moscow: D Beams, H Shaw

Summary:
In an intense match against the Spetsnaz we have prevailed and stood up to the challenge.
Fantastic performance by Mexico finally finding some form after a few quiet weeks to notch up a nice 151 and a solid 31pt win.
Some controversy was involved in the heated semi final with the Suns pulling a sly manouver of bringing in returning Ruckman Aaron Sandilands into the team, fresh from the emergency list. This tactic could have played a part in the win with the duo of Sandi and Maric proving near unstoppable. We started slow, but played well towards the end to take control, with plenty of Suns players stepping up and performing. Dayne Beams was on a rampage for the Spetsnaz and did what he pleased but lacked support from his teammates, while the Suns produced more of a team effort with the likes of Goodes, Hodge, Waite, McLean, Sandilands and Goddard having great games.
It looks as though the older brigade has found form leading into our most important match of the season and a chance for a Grand Final berth. Our main rivals of the competition Sao Paulo will be our opposition and will be a huge mountain to conquer, led by in form Captain Gary Ablett.
We at Mexico hope Nick Riewoldt can return from injury, and we wish the Pumas the best of luck in the upcoming match!

5th: Jordan Lewis (14 votes), P.Chapman (14 votes)

Ivan gets out in front, Sandilands will miss the second half of the season with injury. Comes down to Foley, GOD and Lewis to steal the Cain Velasquez Medal from the mullet.

Best Performance:

Winner: Nick Riewoldt

Nick Riewoldt played the best game out of everyone for the club this season. Big Roo scored 159pts and kciked 7 goals with 21 disposals in Round 11. Huge game and this warrants the Best Performance Award. Congrats Nick!

Cain Velasquez Medal Vote Count:

Round 10
Mexico City Suns (23.8.146) Def. Moscow Spetsnaz (20.8.128)

With Hodge and Goodes starting their long stints in the stands, Mexico had to apply pressure against the in form Moscow.
Thankfully, we did enough to win by 18pts. Chappy had a great game.

Votes:
5 - P.Chapman (148)
4 - A.Sandilands (122)
3 - J.Bartel (118)
2 - I.Maric (111)
1 - B.Ebert (110)

Round 11
Mexico City Suns (20.15.135) Def. London (19.17.131)

The round split over two weeks was a shocker for the Suns, despite a tight win against London.
Sandilands misses the next 8 weeks, killing his Velasquez Medal chances.

Votes:
5 - N.Riewoldt (159)
4 - I.Maric (111)
3 - B.Ebert (108)
2 - B.Goddard (104)
1 - J.Bartel (100)

Round 12
Mexico City Suns (22.12.144) Def. New Delhi Tigers (18.10.118)

Solid win over the Tigers, with Brock McLean making his debut at Mexico!

Votes:
5 - B.Howlett (131)
4 - B.McLean (116)
3 - I.Maric (115)
2 - J.Lewis (103)
1 - M.Firrito (101)

Progressive Leaderboard:

1ST: Ivan Maric (33 votes)
2nd: Aaron Sandilands (21 votes)
3rd: Paul Chapman (19 votes)
4th: Brendan Goddard (17 votes)
5th: Jordan Lewis (16 votes), N.Foley (16 votes)

Maric continues to extend his lead while Chapman jumps up to third. With Sandilands out of the Medal Race it seems like a 5 man contest between Maric, Chapman, Goddard, Foley and Lewis!

Coaches Award:

Winner: Brock McLean

The 516th Pick in the Worlds draft Impressed in virtually every game he played and filled an important hole in the midfield, without his consistent scoring a flag would not be at Mexico! Always stepped up in the close contests. Congrats Brock!

Cain Velasquez Medal Vote Count:

Round 13
Mexico City Suns (23.15.153) Def. Beijing Bears (22.16.148)

Cracking match against a strong Beijing, probably one of the games of the year. Fiery contests between both teams resulted in 3 suspensions to Mexico players! Great intensity by the team.

Votes:
5 - A.Goodes (148)
4 - P.Chapman (141)
3 - J.Lewis (130)
2 - N.Riewoldt (117)
1 - B.McLean (116)

Round 14
Mexico City Suns (19.17.131) Def. Dublin Destroyers (19.13.127)

Tight game against the wooden spooners! :P Missing half of our squad due to injury and suspension so was stoked to get a win! Grinding effort by the boys.

5 - B.Howlett (119)
4 - S.Gilbert (104)
3 - J.Lewis (105)
2 - N.Riewoldt (92)
1 - G.Ibbotson (89)

Round 15
Mexico City Suns (19.9.123) Def. New York Eagles (17.9.111)

Fatigue set in for our Mexicans, with a weak effort against New York scoring just 123pts! Many competitors questioned the teams premiership chances, with most ruling Mexico out of the race. However a win is a win ;)

3 - S.Gilbert (104)
2 - I.Maric (100)
1 - G.Ibbotson (92)

Round 16
Mexico City Suns (24.15.159) Def. Pacific Islanders (17.13.115)

Back in form with a solid score and a 44pt win over the Pacific. Hodge and Bartel's returning leadership was crucial, while Ivan continued pumping out heavy scores. Winning streak at 8 in a row.  :o

Votes:
5 - I.Maric (159)
4 - N.Riewoldt (136)
3 - B.McLean (132)

Round 17
Mexico City Suns (22.15.147) Def. Buenos Aires Armadillos (18.13.121)

2nd vs 4th in a hotly contested dual and possibly a finals preview. Comfortable 26pt win was great.

4 - B.Goddard (122)
3 - J.Waite (117)
2 - A.Goodes (116)
1 - B.McLean (111)

Progressive Leaderboard (Before Finals):

1ST: Ivan Maric (45 votes)
2nd: Jordan Lewis (27 votes)
3rd: Paul Chapman (23 votes), Brendan Goddard (23 votes), N.Riewoldt (23 votes)

Best Finals Player:

Winner: Aaron Sandilands

Injured for most of the year but returned in the 2nd week of finals. From there he delivered 117, 146 and 163 to boost Mexico to their First ever flag! What a return from injury, and a gutsy 3 weeks of footy to win this great award.
Well done Aaron!

Mexico City have signed Jayman on as an Assistant for the 2013 season after having only one coach in Maca24 in 2012.
A change was thought to ensure that decisions will be made more effectively as well as trading and list management.
Welcome aboard Jayman! :)

Offseason Club News:

Bit of off season news with Brendan Goddard retaining the Suns captaincy for 2013.
Wasn't the best year for Brendan despite finishing equal 4th in the Velasquez Medal, but we predict a better year ahead.
Luke Hodge and Adam Goodes will remain Vice Captains with their leadership being invaluable, we just hope they can get on the park more often. Cain Velasquez Medallist Ivan Maric joins them as Vice Captain replacing Jimmy Bartel in the group.

We are also proud to announce our 2nd sponsor with Corona beer joining Miami Heat. We are very proud to be sponsored by both. The season ahead looks very promising for Mexico, as we look to retain our 2012 Premierships in Seniors and Reserves.
Go Mexico!

Out with the old, in with the new

Assistant Coach Jayman has left the Suns to head coach the Pacific Islanders, taking over from highly valued coach C4.
Bad news for the Suns, but with this comes good news, with the appointment of new Assistant Coach SydneyRox!
We at Mexico were very impressed with SR's application for the Pacific and are pleased to have him on board.
Welcome SydneyRox! :)

Preseason observations:

Ready to explode:
Brendan Goddard - Has been the best player so far in the preseason. Exciting year ahead for Mexicos skipper.
Steele Sidebottom - Continues to grow as a player, with a great preseason so far.
Jimmy Bartel - Shaken off the hand injury that held him back last year, looks like getting back to his best.
Mark Lecras - 4 goals on the weekend, not bad for a man coming off an ACL.

Look like improving:
Mark Baguley - More midfield time looms, and a serious contender for a spot in the XV.
Jordan Russell - New club means more opportunity. Made the move from Moscow and should get opportuny off half back.
Aaron Davey - Small forward role this year means potential to increase his average.
Daniel Currie - New ruckman drafted in, will be a solid back up for Maric and Sandi.

Injuries/Niggles:
Luke Hodge - Apparent knee soreness, wait and see
Brian Lake - Slight niggle, should be fine for round 1
Nick Riewoldt - Few niggles, should be fine for round 1
Adam Goodes - Slight niggle, hopefully right for round 1
Jarrad Waite - 2-4 weeks
Aaron Sandilands - 8 week Hamstring

Sandilands ahead of schedule:

Mexico Ruck Aaron Sandilands is ahead of schedule with his recovery from a hamstrong injury in the preseason.
Originally the injury was considered an 8 week rehabilitation period, scheduling Sandi back at approximately Round 6.
However, club medicos have done some miracle work with Aaron now expected back by Round 2-3.
Great news for the Suns, and we look forward to seeing the reigning BOG in the Grand Final back on the field.

Injury Report:

News has gone from bad to good, and now once again to bad regarding Aaron Sandilands. The Mexican Ruckman now requires surgery and is out for at least 3 months. It looks likely that Sandi will do his thing and return in the finals, where he is vital too our premiership aspirations! We wish him all the best with his recovery.

More bad news with Mark Lecras breaking his arm on the weekend. Lecca is scheduled for a 4-6 week recovery period. Jarrad Waite is also 3 weeks away while Luke Hodge and Brian Lake are still fighting niggles and could miss Round 2.
Finally some good news with Stewart Crameri surviving hip scans, and will be available for selection. (:

Trade Analysis - Mexico City Suns

Trade 1:
Mexico Trade: Daniel Talia
Mexico Gain: Brent Moloney

Verdict: I win, Moloney has been great short term.

Trade 2:
Mexico Trade: T.Milera, J.Boumann, K.Reimers
Mexico Gain: B.Harvey, D.Merrett.

Verdict: I on traded Harvs, but he is averaging 107 and Merrett has been solid averaging 70's. Milera has done minimal and the other two were delisted. I win by a mile :P

Trade 3:
Mexico Trade: Ben Howlett
Mexico Gain: S.Black, D.Kerr, Pick 46

Verdict: Howlett started with a bang, while I on traded Black for not much and Kerr and P46 in a trade for Sidey.
I lose this, but Kerr gained me a gun.

Trade 4:
Mexico Trade: Pick 18
Mexico Gain: Corey Enright

Verdict: I ended up getting P18 back, which I used on Hrovat. I definitely won this trade, with Enright averaging 92.

Trade 5:
Mexico Trade: Pick 37, Nathan Foley
Mexico Gain: Scott Thompson

Verdict: Foley has been injured/quiet, Thompson is averaging 100. I'd say I win :)

Trade 6:
Mexico Trade: James Sellar
Mexico Gain: Chris Knights

Verdict: Knights started well before injury, while Sellar has been meh. I on traded Knights anyway so probably an equal trade.

Trade 7:
Mexico Trade: Kyle Hardingham
Mexico Gain: Jordan Russell

Verdict: Hardingham can't even get a game at the moment, while Russell has been playing the majority. This trade is currently slightly in my favour.

Trade 8:
Mexico Trade: S.Black, G.Ibbotson, M.Mattner, M.White.
Mexico Gain: Pick 10.

Verdict: Ibbotson has been really good. I on traded pick 10, but I'd say I may have lost this slightly.

Trade 9:
Mexico Trade: P.Chapman, B.Harvey
Mexico Gain: S.Crameri, Pick 51 & 52

Verdict: Chappy and Boomer have missed lots of footy although both have scored ok. I made this trade for the future, so I think I win easily. Crammers has been good, averaging much higher for Mexico than he does in AFL.

Trade 10:
Mexico Trade: Shaun Burgoyne
Mexico Gain: Pick 13

Verdict: Not sure. Burgoynes been handy..

Trade 11:
Mexico Trade: Picks 55 & 76
Mexico Gain: Brian Lake

Verdict: Lake has been really good, so I think I win this easily.

Trade 12:
Mexico Trade: Pick 10 + Aaron Young
Mexico Gain: Pick 7

Verdict: Young hasn't played yet, and I on traded pick 7 in a deal for Sidey. Probably a win but too early to say.

Trade 13:
Mexico Trade: Pick 7 & 91
Mexico Gain: Pick 14 & D.Cross

Verdict: Win. On traded Cross in a deal for Hurn, even though Cross has been poor this season.

Trade 14:
Mexico Trade: Picks 13, 14 & 51, D.Kerr, A.Toovey & H.Schade
Mexico Gain: S.Sidebottom & T.Membrey (P21)

Verdict: I win, simple as that. Sidey has averaged 100+ and will for years to come.

Trade 15:
Mexico Trade: Brock McLean, Chris Knights.
Mexico Gain: N.Hrovat (P18), B.Vince, J.Adcock.

Verdict: McLean has been quieter in 2013, while Knights is out for the season. Hrovat has shown he is a player of the future while Adcock has averaged 92, and Vince 80+. I win easily.

Trade 16:
Mexico Trade: Daniel Cross & Sam Gilbert
Mexico Gain: Shannon Hurn

Verdict: Gilbert out, Cross dropped. Hurn averaging the third highest out of all defenders and is aged under 25. I win!!!

OVERALL VERDICT:
I dominated.

Injury report:

Shannon Hurn has injured his ankle representing the AAP Alliance on the weekend.
Hurn will miss 8 weeks, a massive blow for Mexico City. Thankfully, we have many respectable replacements, with Brian Lake, Daniel Merrett ane Mark Baguley all vying for the vacated D4 position. Our back line has been the best in the Worlds competition and Hurns injury has sparked the first change to the solid back 4 of Mexico for the season.
In better news, Aaron Sandilands is 1-2 weeks away from injury and is at full training. We at Mexico are not rushing Sandi back into the side, his value to us is enormous. Sandi is known as "BigTime" due to his ability to only play in the big games after missing most of the H&A season in 2012 and now 2013. Sandilands was Mexicos BOG in the Preliminary final and the Grand Final, a huge achievement. We will be stoked for Aarons return, and will be patiently waiting for Shannon to recover. :)

Mexico Minor Premiers

It is now official, Mexico are the minor premiers of 2013 after defeating arch nemesis Sao Paulo in the final round of the H&A season.
With a win loss record of 16-1, it has been an even more successful season than last year.
Inclusions of Sidebottom, Lake, Enright, Adcock, Vince and Merrett have boosted the team in 2013.
Now we turn to finals, and a rematch against the Pumas for a spot in the Preliminary final.
To lose next week after a dominant win against them this week would be shattering, and nothing less than a win will be satisfying.
To cap off the season Mexico have also won the World Idol competition.

Fantastic year ends in tears

Mexico City Suns 18-1 record has ended in a close grand final loss to the Pumas.
We now finish with a 36-5 record for the franchises history.
The players are shattered, especially losing to arch nemesis Sao Paulo.
However, we have still shown we are arguably the top franchise in XVs history!
World cup, world idol and a minor premiership highlight 2013.

Our best and fairest will be held in the coming weeks, while we now look to trade to ensure a third consecutive grand final appearance

Cain Velasquez Medal Odds:
Nick Riewoldt - $2.50
Steele Sidebottom - $3
Jimmy Bartel - $4.50
Brendan Goddard - $4.50
Ivan Maric - $7
Other - $11

Didak, J.Russell, Aaron Davey, Wilkinson, Pfeiffer, Nicoski, J.Bennell, Hoskin, D.Butcher and Bathie have been delisted by the Mexico City Suns. This brings us to 31,145 points, if I'm correct and brings us under the cap  ;D
We also have picks 18, 38, 56, 74, 81 and 92 in the upcoming draft.

How do you feel about the announcement of the new positions jroo? You've lost your 2 of your top 3 forwards from last year to different positions (Bartel and Lewis), making your forwards look rather weak. Do you think you can cover their losses?

Disappointing, but I expected Bartel to lost it but not Lewis. I think we'll be trading for a forward next trade period.
