The
Pacific Islanders Football Club, nicknamed
The Islanders, is an Australian rules football club based in the Pacific which is due to start playing in the World 15 (WXV) competition in the 2012 season. It is based at Linklater Oval in Aiwo, Nauru and plays its home matches there along with Tuanaimato International Stadium in Samoa, BSP Stadium in Fiji and Oakley Arena in Tonga.
The club is characterised by its remote location, it's working class citizens, the tenaciousness of their administators and a iron-like vision to survive and eventually succeed, despite the odds.
The club's mascot is a tiki mask, representative to the Pacific nations from which the club represents. The club's motto is Uictoria Exigit Hostiam", Latin for "Victory Demands Sacrifice". The club song, sung to "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah", is called, "The Greatest Team of All".
HistoryTo be written by the victors. Us. ;D
Guernseys
The Pacific Islanders home guernsey features white hoops on a teal and turquoise gradient background.
In accordance with the old AFL's away/clash guernsey specifications, the Pacific Islanders away/clash guernsey is predominately white with teal and turqouise v-shaped stripes.
The Pacific Islanders heritage guernsey worn for the 2012 Heritage Round, is similar to the home guernsey, but features yellow, red, blue, light blue and white vertical stripes. This is to represent the colours of the nations of Tonga, Samoa, Fiji and Nauru. Since the Islanders are based in Nauru, the 12-pointed star seen on their flag is centred on the front of their guernsey.

Club Song
"The Greatest Team of All" is the official anthem of the Pacific Islanders Football Club. It is sung to the tune of, "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!".
"The Greatest Team of All" is believed to be the oldest club anthem of any W15 club, and has been associated with the club since it's inception in 2012.
Lyrics
If you are an Islander,
then sing along with me,
we are the team on the road to victory.
The Pacific is the place you always come

We will always stick together,
The Pacific is the place you always come
to see, the Greatest Team of All.

BSP Stadium is a planned multi-purpose sports and entertainment stadium to be located in Suva, Fiji. It will be home to the Pacific Islanders Football Club and the nationals sporting teams of Fiji. The stadium's current capacity has been set at 75,000 seats, making it the largest stadium in the Pacific region.
The stadium will be privately financed by a local consortium and be the centrepiece of the current sports and entertainment precinct in Suva, Fiji. The stadium and mixed-use development has been designed by GMP Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner, a firm based in Hamburg Germany and will cost approximately $650 million to build.
BSP, a major banking corperation in the Oceanic region successfully obtained the naming rights to the stadium in late 2011. The naming rights deal is rumoured to be worth close to $30 million over 7 years.

The current estimate for the new stadium is approximately $165 million dollars and will be financed primarily by the Pacific Islanders franchise and the Government of Samoa. Oakley Arena is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment stadium, currently under construction and will be located near the capital of Tonga, Nuku'alofa. It will be home to the Pacific Islanders Football Club and the national sporting teams of Tonga. The current capacity of the stadium has been set at 42,000.
The current estimate for the new stadium is approximately $130 million dollars and will be financed primarily by the Pacific Islanders franchise and the Government of Tonga. The rest of the money owed will be made available in the form of a non-interest loan, thanks in part to the World XV Headquarters.
This stadium was designed by Populous, a major architectural firm based in Brisbane, Australia.
Oakley, a major sporting clothes and accessories manufacturer, obtained the naming rights to the stadium in late 2011, before construction of the stadium had even begun. It is rumored the naming rights deal is worth close to $20 million over 10 years.

Linkbelt Oval is currently the only sports stadium of the island nation of Nauru, besides Menen Stadium. It is located in Aiwo and was constructed by the Nauru Phosphate Corporation. It currently has a capacity of only 3,000.
A redevelopment project was established between the Government of Nauru, the Nauru Phosphate Corporation and the Pacific Islanders Football Club. The oval is to be completely rebuilt from the ground up, demolishing the current temporary stands and replacing them with more permanent ones. ;) The Pacific Islanders Football Club will take ownership of the stadium once completed and the ground will be used for a home game in the 2012 World 15 League.
The new stadium will hold close to 25,000 people and cost $40 million to build. The new stadium was designed by 360 Architecture, a firm based in Kansas City, USA.
The stadium will be the first purpose built Australian rules football stadium to be completely carbon-neutral. All of the energy required to power the stadium will be provided by a dedicated solar farm to built nearby. The walls of the stadium too will be also be a unique feature of the stadium, with grass to be growing on the side. This was done to give the illusion that the oval just rose from the ground.
Even before the redevelopment of the oval started, Linkbelt Oval has won a number of design and sustainability awards.

We're crossing
LIVE to the
Pacific Islanders press conference at their base in Nauru.
CEO Mark O'Connor and Head Coach c4v3m4n have just entered the room.
"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you once again for coming to another press conference for the Pacific Islanders. Please be seated."
"Today we are pleased to announce that we have finally found the final missing pieces to the Pacific Islanders staff. Since this club is striving to be the powerhouse club within the competition, the board deciding to assemble a powerhouse coaching staff.
"This said, it's my great pleasure to announce that
MTTY,
hawk_88 and
charliesheen will all be joining the coaching staff at the Pacific Islanders". :o
hawk_88 and MTTY enter the room and shake hands with CEO Mark O'Connor and Head Coach c4v3m4n.
"Firstly I should point out that charliesheen was unavailable for today's press conference, he is currently back in Australia."
"For those unaware of these gentlemen's exploits, MTTY was the 2011 m0nty Medal winner, an accolade that is rated as the football communities highest honor. Hawk_88 and charliesheen are both seen as rising stars within the football community, but we are confident they are ready for the task ahead."
Hawk_88 and MTTY would now like to say a few words.
Quote from: hawk_88
I can't wait to get in and get my hands dirty! A great list that makes up for it's lack of experience with raw physical talent ready to be moulded. Reminds me of myself at the same age.... anyway, I feel as though I can really get in there and make an impact with my knowledge and experience, but and also excited to be working with and learning from the very experienced coaching panel.
Quote from: MTTY
With this amazing coaching panel the Pacific Islanders have set up here, I definitely believe this club is set for greatness in 2012. I am greatly looking forward to the opportunity given to me and cannot wait to meet the team and begin to plan for the season ahead. Thank you.
"We are thrilled to have these three coaches join us here at the Pacific Islanders franchise. The season is shaping up to be a big one, but we are supremely confident that we can aim high for that inaugural premiership, thanks to the coaching panel this club has now found."
"We also have some important news about the current progress of our new stadiums".
"The board has decided to go in a slightly different direction with some of our new stadiums, due to some initial commercial projection figures."
"The Linkbelt Oval redevelopment project has been scaled back. It was originally announced that this stadium would hold more than 30,000 people and be the main stadium for the Islanders franchise. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. The new smaller stadium will hold close to 25,000 people. The ground will still however be the first AFL ground that is carbon neutral, something we are amazingly proud to bring to the fans."
"We are deeply regretful that we could not deliver on this larger world-class stadium, both to the people of Nauru and to the members and fans. However, we are confident that this smaller stadium will have some of the best facilities the Pacific has to offer."
"Oakley Arena in Nuku'alofa, Tonga will be upgraded further, now from 15,000 seats to 40,000 seats. The overwhelming response from the our supporters in Tonga was the key factor in the enhancement of this stadium. It will cost an extra $20 million dollars on top of the $15 million dollars already being spend to construct the stadium. However, it will be money well spent as this stadium will become a long-lasting stadium for the Tongan people."
"Tuanaimato International Stadium, in Tuanaimato, Samoa will also be upgraded from 15,000 seats to 40,000 seats due to the overwhelming response from the small Tongan nation. Like the Oakley Arena, this will also cost an additional $20 million dollars to construct".
"Finally, we are extremely excited to announce that we have decided to upgrade the capacity of BSP Stadium in Suva, Fiji. This stadium, instead of the initial 20,000 seats we had allowed for the stadium, we have decided to upgrade this to 75,000, making it the not only the largest stadium in the Pacific (far bigger than Aloha Stadium in Hawaii) but this will also be the largest construction project in the Pacific's history."
"The costs of this stadium have increased somewhat to $625 million dollars, but we are supremely confident that this stadium will become the best stadium in the competition, and we have high hopes that this stadium will be seen as one of the best, most modern and iconic stadiums in the world."
"Please note that the timelines have not changed for each stadium. Linkbelt Oval will definitely be available for use by by February 2012, Oakley Arena and TIS being ready by Round 6, 2012 and BSP Stadium by mid-2012 .The will be some changes made to the W15 fixture, but that will be discussed with the WXV CEO and be announced within the coming days."
"Finally, we are proud to announce that we will be constructing our new administration and training facility at what will become the old Fijian National Stadium. At a cost of $37.5 million dollars, we hope that this new training facility will be become the best not only in the W15 competition, but in the world."
"This facility will definitely be able to enable us to attract and retain the best players, coaches and administrators to the Pacific Islanders".
"We are extremely proud with today's announcements, the Islanders now have the premier staff, stadiums and training facilities within the competition and are confident that with these tools at our disposal that this club will be sitting atop that ladder come finals in 2012".
"Thank you".

The hard work will pay off C4 ;)

Banfield and Witts splashdown in the Pacific
By Terry Richardson
The Pacific Islanders have finalised their playing list for the inaugural 2012 W15 season as the trade window came to a close early this morning.
Defenders Michael Jamison and James Frawley have left the club and have now found new homes with other clubs and the Islanders welcome to the playing group, Todd Banfield and Jarrod Witts.
Head coach, c4v3m4n, spoke to us today about the loss/gain of players during the trade window.
"Losing both Jamison and Frawley is a setback to our defence, however we've got wealth of young talent knocking at the door for selection. Players like Luke Brown, Matthew Jaensch, Nick Suban and even Tom Simpkin are making excellent progress so far and should make for excellent replacements."
"Todd Banfield is a fantastic addition to our forward line. He's got amazing skills, great set of hands and fantastic leadership traits too. Yes, he currently is struggling with a minor knee injury, but he'll be ready for the pre-season friendlies against the Beijing Bears and the Moscow Spetsnaz."
"Acquiring the services of Jarrod Witts solved the final ruck dilemma we had. With a young playing group, we needed to look at who was going to step up after Jolly retires down the track. While Tom Nicholls has shown excellent promise and dedication, we felt we just needed another ruckman and Witts ticked all of those boxes and more."
The Islanders will also be naming their leadership group and the players numbers for season 2012 as early as today. Chris Judd is heavily favourited for the captaincy position, with other senior players like Petrie, Gibson and Black in contention.
The players have been offered to keep their original playing numbers from their now disbanded AFL club, but many have chosen not to retain them. Nick Smith explained his reason for wanting a new guernsey number.
"Playing for the Sydney Swans in the AFL was well, simply amazing. But now that the AFL has been disbanded, I've put that part of my life behind me. I still keep in contact with the boys, but I've moved on and am now looking forward to starting a new career with the Islanders. This said, I made the decision to look for a new playing number that I can make my own here at the Islanders."
The Islanders first pre-season friendly match is against the Beijing Bears to be held on the weekend of the March 2 - 4 and will be held in Beijing.
Prestia number 1 at the Islanders
by Eliza Fisher
The Pacific Islanders held an elaborate function last night in which it has announced the players' inagural guernsey numbers for the Pacific Islanders first season in the World 15s.
Dion Prestia, the dashing young midfielder who played for the Gold Coast Suns before the disbandment of the AFL, was the first name to be announced, and was awarded with the No. 1 guernsey for the Islanders' inaugural season.
Prestia, who was suprised and shocked at the choice of being given the prestigious first guernsey, admitted that being handed with the No. 1 guernsey will drive him further to succeed in 2012.
"While everyone strives to be the best at their club, wearing the No. 1 guernsey is the strongest motivation to be the best. I'm stoked to have been chosen to wear this number, and will wear it with great pride."
Players were given the option to retain their same number they once wore in the AFL, or to start afresh. Senior Islander players Chris Judd, Simon Black, Quinten Lynch and Josh Gibson decided to take up that offer and retain their number they once wore for their respective clubs.
Speaking at the function last night, Simon Black couldn't wait to play for the Islanders and wear the number 20 again, the same number he once wore playing for the now defunct Brisbane Lions.
"It was an abolsute privlidge to play Aussie Rules football for the Brisbane Lions for an amazing 14 years, and it's a unique feeling we players have for our guernsey number. I was blessed with wearing the number 20 for all 14 years at the Lions, and I can't wait to wear this number again. It's hard to explain, but I'm sure most of my teammates know what I'm talking about or perhaps I've simply lost my mind after all these years."
There was also some heavy emotion at the dinner when Barry Mitchell, former Sydney, Carlton and Collingwood player made a surprise appearance and presented his son, Tom Mitchell with the number 10 guernsey, the same number he made famous when playing for Sydney.
Both were close to tears as Tom Mitchell commented on the honour of being able to wear his fathers number.
"My father had a such a great football career, playing over 200 games for Sydney, Collingwood and Carlton. If I can have half as great of a career as he had, I'll be more than happy with my efforts. But for me to be wearing a guernsey with the same number as my father once wore, is simply the biggest pat on the back, the biggest hug and the biggest inspiration for me to make my father and my family more prouder than they obviously already are of me. This is an honor that I simply will never forget and treasure forever."
Full details on all player numbers for season 2012, are available here:

The Pacific Islanders will be holding a press conference tomorrow night and it is rumoured that Chris Judd will formally be announced as the Islanders inaugural captain for the first season in the W15s along with the leadership group.
LIVE PRESS CONFERENCE
The Pacific Islanders CEO Mark O'Connor and head coach c4v3m4n have entered the room and have sat down.
It is rumored that today's press conference has been called to name the Pacific Islanders inagural captain for their first season in the W15s, along with vice-captains or a leadership group. Other suggestions have been made that new sponsors will announced or there will be updates on the new stadiums.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please be seated", CEO Mark O'Connor says.
The press conference is underway. CEO O'Connor - "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you all for coming again to yet another Pacific Islanders press conference. I can promise you that this one will be very brief, so let's get started".
"The press have been bang on the money with the reason why we have called this press conference, we are here today to announce the Pacific Islanders first captain and the leadership group that will lead the Islanders into our inagural World 15s season. But first, to we'd like to take a short minute to announce the progress of our stadia."
The press snicker and giggle with the deliberate shift before the captaincy announcement.
"We are pleased to announce that all of our stadia projects are either on-time or in front of schedule. This is fantastic news. Linkbelt Oval as of the 1st February, has now been fully completed and the Islanders will be able to use this stadium for their home pre-season challenge match in March. We hope that all of our supporters will come out to this game, not only to support the team, but to witness the birth of the stadium we have longed to give the people of Nauru and the South Pacific."
"Oakley Arena in Tonga, is ahead of schedule and will now be ready for use by Round 3 in 2012, Tuanaimato International Stadium in Samoa is on schedule and still on track for a Round 6 opening."
"Our flagship stadium, BSP Stadium in Fiji is also on time and on budget and will be fully ready by the middle of the World 15s season. We are extremely satisfied with the results so far and its a credit to the construction company, Grocon. Their work is second-to-none and we are proud to have them constructing these world-class venues."
"Now ladies and gentlemn, I would like to pass it to our esteemed head coach, c4v3m4n to discuss our pre-season briefly and then make the leadership group announcement. Thank you."
Mark O'Connor now passes the press conference onto the Pacific Islanders head coach, c4v3m4n. Just repeating, the Islanders have announced that their stadia are either on time or ahead of schedule, as is in the case of Linkbelt Oval which was completed on Wednesday and will be officially opened with the Islanders first pre-season challenge match against the Moscow Spetsnaz in March.
"Ladies and gentlemen, now the time you've been waiting for. The announcement of the Pacific Islanders leadership group for our inaugural season. Can you all please make welcome, the senior playing group." *applause*
The Pacific Islanders senior playing group have now entered the room and are standing to the side of the conference.
"Thank you for joining us today fellas."
"After long and careful consideration, we have decided to award the inagural captaincy for the Pacific Islanders to...
"Chris Judd." *applause*
Chris Judd comes forward, shakes c4v3m4n's hand along with the hand of CEO Mark O'Connor and takes a seat next to c4v3m4n.
"Chris Judd was chosen to lead the Pacific Islanders for various reasons. His captaincy with the now defunct Carlton Blues was a major reason, but the board and I felt that we need someone with his seniority, skills and mentoring ability."
"I'll pass it to Chris Judd to say a few words."
"Thanks c4v3m4n. It's truly an honor to have been chosen to be the Pacific Islanders inaugural captaincy in our first season in the World 15s. I learnt alot at my time at Carlton as captain and I hope to being a great deal of knowledge to the Islanders as I lead them this season. I'm looking forward to working with the other members of the yet-to-be announced leadership group as we strive for greatness in 2012. I think I speak on behalf of all of my team members when I say that we all have the drive, the determination to become a strong club here in the Pacific. Thanks once again." - Chris Judd.
"Thank you Chris."- c4v3m4n.
"Now, the CEO and I have had a long discussion about the vice-captaincy and we have decided to name not one but several vice captains in the form of a leadership group."
"Those members that will part of the Islanders inaugural leadership are as follows and please give them an applause as they are named".
"First cab of the rank, Simon Black. His wisdom after 14 years of football made him an amazing candidate to help lead this young team for 2012." *applause*
"Secondly, Drew Petrie. An amazing footballer with mentoring abilities that are second-to-none." *applause*
"Thirdly, Josh Gibson. His hard work and determination has been finally recognised and awarded with this leadership position." *applause*
"Finally and he's the youngest member of the leadership group, David Swallow. His tactical awareness, his repport with the staff and players, and his stellar debut year with the Gold Coast Suns last year in the AFL made him the perfect candidate. *applause*
All four members of the new leadership group come foward and shake hands with c4v3m4n, Mark O'Connor and Chris Judd.
"With a recommendation like that, next thing you know he (David Swallow) will be gunning for my job", laughed Chris Judd.
"Hey, c4v3m4n, it's not too late to change your mind", joked David Swallow.
"I'd like to once again congratulate Chris Judd, Simon Black, Drew Petrie, Josh Gibson and David Swallow on their appointments as captain and as members of the leadership group respectively."
"That concludes today's press conference, we thank you once again for coming."
What could possibly be the announcement?

Pacific Players Put on Notice
Pacific Islanders Head Coach c4v3m4n held a press conference this afternoon shortly after their training session to discuss all things pre-season. But moments into the press conference, the mood quickly changed as c4v3m4n took aim at his players after some 'lacklustre' performances.
"Am I happy with how our pre-season went? No, I'm not. Far from it actually. Too many of our senior players failed to step up and they have all be put on notice. Only three players in the pre-season managed an average of 80 or greater and that is just plain unacceptable. What makes it worse is that there were only 6 players that averaged between 60 and 80. I'd go as far as saying that this pre-season has been a total failure."
The Islanders were unable to register a single win throughout the WXV Pre-season Challenge Cup, going down to the Bears, the Spetsnaz and the Brewers. But out of all of this gloom, there were some positives to be found.
"If there is one thing I can be happy for it was the spectacular turnout by the fans for the opening of the redeveloped Linkbelt Oval. It was amazing to see the overwhelming support from the Pacific community. For their sake, I hope we can turnaround these lacklustres performances into many victories."
"I think the attendance for our 2nd round clash was close to a sell-out which is exceptional. We are also looking at a repeat of those figures when we playing the Spetsnaz again, this time for the real 4 points in Round 2."
Head Coach c4v3m4n also gave us some insight into the make up over the historic Round 1 clash against their Pacific rivals, the Wellington Warriors.
"I haven't quite finalised the team sheet yet, but I can announce that Nick Smith, Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Sam Reid will all feature in the team. All three have proved themselves over the pre-season and will be sure to make a splash come Round 1".
"Some of the younger players in Miles, Mohr, Clifton and Cunningham have also done well but unfortunately didn't make the squad this week. But I guarantee they'll all be given a chance to represent the Islanders at some point this season."
Finally, Head Coach c4v3m4n hinted on some exciting projects the Islanders are looking at undertaking in the year.
"Well, we all know that the Islanders are seen as somewhat pioneers; first with guernseys, membership programs, sponsors etc. I won't give too much away at this present point in time, but the fans will certainly enjoy what we have in store."
The Islanders Round 1 clash against the Wellington Warriors will take place this weekend at Manila Polo Ground, Manila, Phillipines.
The Islanders have had some teething issues, with the change of coach early, but think c4 is definitely taking it in the correct direction!

I can't take all the credit. I have my incredibly magnificent team of assistants to thank for all their hard work and effort. :)
Hi guys - C4 is still absent :(
Any of his assistants wanting to make a team for him this week, please do so...
The only thing that has to happen is Darren Jolly is locked as the ruck.
Smallest Club, Biggest Heart
By Michael Stringer
Serveral weeks ago, the W15 world was shocked by the sudden illness of Pacific Islanders head coach, c4v3m4n. Suffering an acute case of pnuemonia, he's was given the orders to stop coaching, take an immediate leave of absence and rest up. But against orders, the head coach was seen at training and even giving advice from the sidelines. Nothing was going to stop c4v3m4n from being involved with his beloved team.
All looked on the up for head coach as he even contemplated returning to full coaching duties before the Round 5 match against the Beijing Bears, however, things took a turn for the worse. During his routine morning jog around the Islanders training facility, he collapsed and was immediately rushed to hospital. Unfortunately, c4v3m4n had suffered a serious relapse, one that would require weeks of hospitalization.
With this sad news, the Pacific Islanders have banded together and produced 3 of the most awe-inspiring performances the sporting world has seen. After the Round 5 match against the Beijing Bears, Simon Black was quoted as saying, "Before this match, we, the playing group, all agreed before the game that we couldn't leave this arena without a win. Losing here wouldn't be fair for c4v3m4n. He's the most determined and strong-willed coach in the competition and we were determined 110% to win for him."
The admiration for c4v3m4n was also shown at a media conference during the leadup to the Round 6 match against the Destroyers. One member of the press made a comment that Islanders surely can't keep using same old line that "We are going to win this for c4v3m4n" and a riled-up Dion Prestia took aim and said, "We will, and we are going to do nothing less than win. We'll win for us, for the staff, for the fans, and you're god damn right we are going to win this for c4v3m4n."
According to reports, head coach c4v3m4n called Islanders captain Chris Judd after the emphatic Round 7 win against the New York Eagles, with a simple message, "Amazing win, see you tomorrow morning for debrief. You heard me.". With this information, the dressing room erupted in further celebration.
c4v3m4n, was true to his word and arrived at the Islanders HQ this morning with an amazing welcome. The playing group, the assistant coaches, staff members and even fans of the Islanders gathered to form a guard of honor as c4v3m4n entered the building. The truly moving welcome brought c4v3m4n to shed a tear or two as he joked to the crowd, "I wouldn't mind this every morning I came to work. Thank you everyone, it's really great to be back."
Banding together, the spirit and determination that this small club has showed the W15 world is simply something to admire. Their efforts on and off the field have not gone unnoticed and the whole world now eagerly awaits the next chapter in this amazing story.
Absolutely inspiring stuff c4!
I think the Pacific might be my 2nd team :)
Hope its all behind you now.
I truly hope it is behind me as well. ::)
Head Coach c4v3m4n, will be holding a press conference LIVE tonight about his return to coaching and the Islanders current performance.
Members of the public and other coachses are invited to submit questions to myself for answering.
The conference will begin at 9:00PM AEDST.
Last chance to get questions in before the press conference.
Do you believe that the Islanders have th capacity to win the title this season??
Who are your greatest rivals at the moment and are how do you think they are travelling??
Which player from an opposition team are you looking at bringing to the club for next season??
Will the Islanders be considering following Seoul and Sao Paulo's footsteps in naming a stand-alone Reserves team?
1. Will you c4 ever be sick again? If so will you resign from your position?
2. Does The Pacific Islanders have a chance to win the World 15s This year?
3. Will The Islanders be moving on any of their senior players next year like Judd to get younger players?
4. Is There any tension between you and any of the players in WXV or even the coaches? :o
Thank you all for your entries. The best questions will be chosen and answered during the press conference.
ISLANDERS PRESS CONFERENCE
Head Coach c4v3m4n enters the room, sits down and faces the media.
"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you all for attending today's press conference. Firstly, let me say that it's definitely great to be back here, I've certainly missed every facet of this club. I'd also like to thank everyone for the well wishes while is was ill, it was certainly much appreciated".
"Tonight I'd like to discuss the Islanders recent performance, then discuss the Islanders' future and then open the floor to any questions you might have".
"The Islanders recent performances have been simply amazing and I'm proud of each and every one of the playing group. Of course, like all good coaches, we'll be playing down these wins. Haha".
"The Islanders will be pushing forward harder than ever more determined to make finals and keep defying all those people that thought the Islanders were going to mere pushovers."
"This week against the Cape Town Cobras is a massive game for us, it's going to be a fantastic opportunity to see exactly how we compete against the big guns of the competition. I have also been told that the game at Oakley Arena is now completely sold out."
"I will now open the floor to any and all questions."
Question 1. What is your opinion on the Islanders chance to actually make the finals?
"It's amazing what seven weeks will do to people. First we are a shoe-in for the spoon and now you're talking about the Islanders making finals? Ha. Look, I won't sugar coat it, we've got a tough road ahead of us and our depth is strained as it is. But hopefully, we'll continue to surprise people and make finals. So to answer your question, it's going to be hard but we're definitely a chance."
Question 2. What about making the Grand Final?
"Ask me that question when we're in the finals. Until then, just making the finals are our focus."
Question 3. Who would you say is your greatest rival and how do you feel they are travelling?
"Greatest rival? Hmm...I'd have to go on the record and say that the Wellington Warriors would still have to be the Islanders greatest rival. It's a shame that we don't have to another chance to play them cause we'd certainly love to have another chance at that Oceanic Cup. As for how they're travelling, well sitting 3rd with 6 wins on the board, you'd have to say they're travelling really well. They've definitely got an impressive list and probably the best rucking duo in Giles and HMac. Along with S. Thompson, A. Rance, L. Hayes, J. Corey, we're definitely taking notice.
Question 4. Do the Islanders have an eye on any particular players for trade week?
"I'm not going to lie, there are a few players that Islanders are looking at. But as for who they are, you're just going to have to wait. ;)
Question 5. Some people might say that The Islanders have been performing better BECAUSE OF your absence. What do you have to say to them?
"Wow, that's a different question. The Islanders coaching staff have performed above and beyond their duties during my absence and it goes to show that without doubt we've got the best coaching staff in the competition. As for whether or not the team has done better due to my absence, let's review that after the next few weeks, maybe you'll be right, maybe you just asked a stupid question."
Final Question. Will the Islanders be considering following Seoul and Sao Paulo's footsteps in naming a stand-alone Reserves team?
"It's definitely something that we have considered. We are currently in talks with the CEO Mark O'Connor about naming the reserves team and we'll have an answer within the week."
"I'd like to thank you all for your questions and for coming to this press conference and of course, GO ISLANDERS!"

Islanders and Cobras to play for UNICEF Cup
By Jesse Kabaletta
The Pacific Islanders in conjunction with the Cape Town Cobras today announced that this week's match at Oakley Arena in Tonga would take on special significance as the two teams would play for the first annual UNICEF Cup to help raise money for children in need.
UNICEF works in over 150 countries and territories to promote and protect the rights of children. UNICEF works in five priority areas for children (Survival, Education, HIV/AIDS, Protection & Emergencies), as well as rapidly responding to emergencies and conflicts.
For more information about UNICEF's work, head to unicef.org.au.
The Islanders have pledged to donate 50% of all profits generated from this week's match and the players have donated their time during the week to visit sick children in hospitals. Along with this, an auction will take place after the match where the players guernseys and the match ball will be auctioned off to raise further money for UNICEF.
Islanders head coach, c4v3m4n said that the players, coaches and staff were glad to help such a worthwhile cause. "UNICEF's work worldwide is absolutely amazing and we're indebted to them for all they've done for children everywhere. This is our way of helping them further their stellar humanitarian work".
The Cape Town Cobras have themselves pledged to donate $25,000 for every goal that is kicked during the match and will also hold their own auction post-game to raise money.
Cape Town Cobras midfielder Jobe Watson was quoted during the week as saying, "This is a fantastic initiative that the Cobras and the Islanders have undertaken. It's definitely going to be a special day and everyone here at the Cobras are excited to be part of it."
The match is already a complete sell-out with the last of the 42,000 tickets being snapped up earlier this week. Fans are also encouraged to donate a gold coin upon entry or head to unicef.org.au to make a donation.
PACIFIC ISLANDERS ROUND 8 LIVE POST-MATCH CONFERENCE
Pacific Islanders Head Coach c4v3m4n and their CEO, Mark O'Connor enter the room.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please be seated", says CEO Mark O'Connor.
"Before our Head Coach c4v3m4n address the media for his post-game conference, I would like to firstly take this opportunity to thank each and every person that turned out to today's fixture between the Pacific Islanders and the Cape Town Cobras. Today's game had a special meaning as we were raising money for children all-around the globe."
"Today's UNICEF Cup match was an absolutely amazing success and I would like to take this opportunity to run through some figures."
"Today's official attendance was 39,471. We are astounded with the turn-out, not only is that the highest home crowd for any Islanders match so far, but it goes to show that we have an enormous supporter base and hopefully more will turn out in the future once our flagship stadium is completed."
"As the goal count for today's game was 45, the Cape Town Cobras have generously donated $1,125,000 to today's cause. That is a amazing figure and we can't thank the Cobras enough for their generous support."
"Before the match the Pacific Islanders said they would donate 50% of all profits generated from todays game, which includes ticket sales, food and beverage sales, match-day sponsorship etc. After calculation, the Islanders will be making a donation of $1,807,600."
"Amazingly, we have had overwhelming support from local communities, general public and business wishing to make donations towards UNICEF. The total money raised from these outside donations was a whopping $2,412,733.65 taking the total amount raised to $5,345,333.65. We cannot thank you all enough for getting behind this cause".
"I now invite Mr. Anthony Lake, Executive Director and Head of UNICEF to the stage to receive this cheque made out to UNICEF for the sum of $5,345,333.65 and invite him to say a few words."
"Firstly, a big thanks to the Pacific Islanders, the Cape Town Cobras, businesses and members of the general public for the support. Your support means a great deal for UNICEF and we are ecstatic with the amount you have managed to raise."
"This money will be going directly to the crisis in East Africa, were currently over 13.3 million children are at serious risk. To provide some understanding of the scale of the donation, this cheque could buy close to 2.5 million plastic 10 litre water containers, 66,800 oral rehydration sachets, 72,200 boxes of nutrition bars or amazingly, protect 17.2 million children from Measles. This just goes to show you how important donations of this scale is and we are forever thankful.
"Thank you."
"Now, I will pass the floor to our head coach, c4v3m4n to discuss today's match and answer any questions you might have".
"Thank you Mark. I know this sounds repetitive, but thank you to everyone, the Cobras, the public, local business and the community for your generous and astounding support for UNICEF and their cause."
"Wow, what a match. I can't praise the playing group enough today, they came and grabbed the game by the scruf of the neck and gave it a real crack. While we didn't walk away with the four points, they are so many positives to take away from today's game."
"It was really great to see our forward line stepping up this week, led by a magnificent performance from Drew Petrie. His work inside 50 today was some of the best I've seen in his career. It was also great to see Quinten Lynch and Sam Reid bounce back after some poor form recently."
"David Ellard looks to have solidified his position for the time being while David Swallow is injured with a stellar performance on-ball and through the back-line. Dion Prestia, wow, he has been the surprise packet of the year so far. 3 matches over 100, it's been amazing to watch."
"Our work inside our defensive 50 was very ordinary and well need a lot of work during the coming weeks if we ar to continue to push for finals. Lewis Roberts-Thomson performed amazingly well in the Reserves match and will be definitely looked upon for selection for the next match".
"As for the Cape Town Cobras, well firstly congratulations are in order. They played extremely well and we always knew it was going to be a tough ask, and they certainly lived up to their reputation. I'm going on record to say they have the strongest midfield in the competition and could cause headaches for further teams."
"Today's game was a fantastic indication of where we are at within the competition. The Cobras are a strong unit and to come close to knocking them off, I think our aspirations to play finals couldn't be any higher."
"Next week's match against the Buenos Aires Armadillos is a must-win game if we wish to continue our push for finals and we'll be making sure we come out fighting hard."
"At this present time, we will be looking to make very minimal changes to the line-up for the upcoming game, but an official call will be made in the coming days."
"I will now open the floor to any and all questions."
Question 1. Will you be looking to hold any other Cup matches in the future due to today's success?
"It's a distinct possibility. At the moment we aren't pursing any other Cup matches, but are certainly open to all invitations."
Question 2. With the loss of David Swallow and Todd Banfield recently, are you at all worried about your depth?
Both were big losses and it was great to have Josh Gibson, Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Levi Greenwood back this week. Now, hopefully, Jacob Townsend and Curtly Hampton should be back next week which bolsters our playing stock and provides me with some selection dilemmas. Haha. So to answer your question about depth, yes we have been strained at times, but we've managed."
Question 3. Any updates on the naming of your reserves team?
"I'll take that if you don't mind c4v3m4n."
"The management staff have been discussing this and we'll be holding a press conference later in the week to answer this in full."
Question 4. Rumors have been circulating about Bryce Gibbs being unhappy at the Magpies and there are rumors that the Islanders have been talking to the Magpies about the possibility of a trade, care to comment?
"No such discussions have taken place. Not sure where you got that rumor from as it's clearly false."
"I think the media has been too harsh on Bryce Gibbs of late. It's amazing how quick you all are to attack someone after their first ever career form slump. He'll be back on top before you know it, just give the poor guy a chance."
Question 5. What is your take on the current state of the Paris-Nice-Lyon Reindeers?
"Being 0-8 has gotta take it's toll. With the evenness of the competition, it's been really surprising they are yet to win a game. I thought they played admirably against the Warriors, they really took it too them. They've got a talented list and I'm sure their first win is just around the corner, let's just hope it's not against us, haha."
That's enough questions for today. Thank you all for questions and your support and of course, as always, GO ISLANDERS! ;D

Why Cotchin get a Star?
He was voted by media commentators as the best and fairest player for the match. 29 possessions, 6 tackles, 3 goals (including the winner), he was a very worthy winner.
(http://live.fanfooty.com.au/images/icon_x-factor.gif) = X factor (letter X). This player wasn't the best player on the ground but he played a vital role in winning the game.
Good to see Dion get you over the line.

Well if you can somehow make finals, we might meet again then, where you can have a chance to act your revenge.
Or wait until next year. Your choice.
PACIFIC ISLANDERS ROUND 9 POST-GAME PRESS CONFERENCE
Head coach c4v3m4n and captain Chris Judd enter the room to face the media.
"Thank you ladies and gentlemen for coming to today's post-game conference."
"Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to address our fans, supporters and sponsors. On behalf of the Pacific Islanders Football Club, we apologize for the effort that we displayed on the weekend against the Armadillos. We are not going to be making any excuses and I as coach, accept full responsibility for last weekend's match."
"While we only lost by 26 points, we all felt that it was our worst performance of the season. Of course, congratulations to the Armadillos on winning the game, they certainly deserved the 4 points and we wish them the best for the rest of the season."
"We certainly looked dangerous early on and I'm very impressed by our younger players in Prestia and Ellard that keep stepping up each week. However, as you would have seen, our structure around the football in the second quarter along with the Armadillos forward pressure, was what ultimately destroyed us. Their ability to counterattack was fantastic; we obviously didn't handle the pressure well enough."
"Next week is going to be the Islanders ultimate test. The Toronto Wolves have an impressive list and unfortunately for us, are in great form at the moment. I will be having a chat with some of our senior players this week about their performance and you can expect that several changes will be made to the lineup."
"I'll now open the floor to any and all questions."
Question 1: This question is for Chris Judd. How have you seen your own performances of recent?
"I will admit that I haven't been playing my best football this year. I could use excuses like the long-distance travelling, the general workload, my age, my new family etc. but that's not who I am. My performances on the field have not been up to standard and I accept that but I will promise you that I will be working harder than ever in order to improve. The Islanders have got the best sports science and fitness staff in the competition, I have faith that they'll help me get my performances back on track."
Question 2: Again, this is for Chris Judd. Media commentators have suggested that due to these poor performances that you should step down as captain of the Islanders. Care to comment?
"I'll answer this one."
"The board, the coaching staff, the players and I believe and have always believed that Chris Judd is the right captain for the Islanders. While he has accepted that he has had a slip in performance of late, I think it's incredibly harsh and plain ridiculous to be calling for his resignation of captaincy after a few bad games. The Reindeers are 0-9, and you don't hear anyone asking for their coach to resign? Utter rubbish."
Question 3: Any news on Simon Black? Will he play this week?
"He's currently undergoing scans on his knee which was initially sustained playing with his eight-month-old son Lachie last week, and aggravated it against the Armadillos. So at the moment, I can't give you any more information as I simply don't know. But if the scans are fine and he trains well, then there's no reason why we'd leave him out for the Wolves."
Question 4: The London Royals have recently been described as 'flying under the radar', a strategy they even say is why they are premiership contenders. To regain some form, should the Islanders be looking to fly alongside the Royals, so to speak?
"No, the Islanders have no intention of 'flying under the radar'. One of the strong points of this club which has been applauded by most journalists as I'm sure you are aware, is the openness here at the Islanders. We pride ourselves on our open training sessions, on these press conferences and Q and A sessions; otherwise the fans and the public feel like they are cut off from the club and the players. That's definitely not something we wanted for our fans and the public. I'd rather lose matches and be open, then win matches and push fans and the public away."
Last Question: You have already expressed that you are looking to make changes to the line-up for the Wolves this week. Any thoughts on who will be coming in and who will be dropped?
"The recent performances of Tom Simpkin, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Levi Greenwood and Luke Delaney in our reserves side have been noted. They are all pushing for selection this week. As for who comes out, well Simon Black is a possibility, and there are few others that have been put on notice. But all selection changes will be addressed in the coming days."
"Thank you for coming today and as always, GO ISLANDERS!"
Entertaining as always c4 :)
Thanks for the kind words c4. :D
PACIFIC ISLANDERS ROUND 9 POST-GAME PRESS CONFERENCE
Head coach c4v3m4n enters the room and sits down to face the media.
"Sorry to keep everyone waiting, lets get this show on the road", said c4v3m4n.
"This weekend's performance against the Wolves simply wasn't good enough. While we were competitive to begin with, winning the centre clearances and stoppages, we just dropped off after half time and the Wolves, they pounced and that was the end really."
"Of course the big talking point is Jack kicking 8 goals; we'd come here with game plans on how to shut him down, but it just goes to show you that things don't always go according to plan. We decided Tom Simpkin was going to our best option on Jack, but after the first half, we decided to shift things around and give Tim Mohr the chance and he did well for that third quarter, but ultimately, it was Jack's day.
"A big commendation to Cameron Wood and Jamie Elliott today. After Dion Prestia and Darren Jolly didn't get through pre-game fitness tests, it was our only choice to 'scratch' them and give Wood an Elliott a chance and boy did they take it. Cameron Wood has definitely the best player on the ground for the Islanders, and I'm hoping he can produce more efforts like that in the future. As for Elliott, he's definitely a work-in-progress, but after what I saw last night, he's making amazing progress and will be a star for the club, just you wait."
"Of course, if you took Wood and Elliott out, then realistically, there was only one other solid performer in Ellard. That's just plain unaccepatable in my eyes. I know these boys have the talent, we've all seen it in previous games but at the moment, something obviously not clicking and we'll work on that this week to find out what it is, but I can assure you, that when it does, it's game on."
"Questions?"
Question 1. Chris Judd said last week that he looking to improve, how did you see his performance this week?
*mumbles* "I knew this question was coming".
"I said this last week as well, it's amazing how quick the media lashes out at a player whose going through his first rough patch in 10 years. I can tell you all now, that he is working as hard as he as ever worked in his entire AFL career to break out of the current funk he's in."
"Next question."
Question 2. Some media commentators have suggested that your approach to the Wolves this week as very poor to the extent they felt the game was already over when you walked out onto the field, care to comment?
"Never in my history of coaching have I ever walked out onto a field and conceded defeat even before the first bounce. I don't think any coach has. Well, maybe Dean Bailey did when he was coach of Melbourne few years back."
"Whether we are playing the bottom team or the team that is currently undefeated, the Islanders will always believe we can win each and every game we play. Let me ask you all a question too, come Round 17, who do you think is going to be more scared, the Pumas when they are 16-0, or the Islanders? Cause I can tell you now, we sure as hell won't be." >:D
Question 3. After losing 3 weeks in a row and facing the rejuvenated Brewers, how important is the Round 11 match?
"Every game is as important as the last."
"Buddy was a clear-standout over the weekend for the Brewers and we'll be analyzing the footage from that game to work out ways to combat him. I wouldn't be adversed to placing two defenders on him, if that stops him."
"But in all seriousness, it's another must-win game, especially for our home fans. They are the most loyal and devoted fans in the competition and they deserve to see the Islanders win at home."
Question 4. Have the Islanders re-signed anyone to the team for future seasons yet?
"We have been holding discussions with all players throughout the past few weeks about their contracts and their playing future here at the Islanders. If any decisions are made by players, they will be announced at the appropriate time."
Question 5. Rumors are circulating around the WXV, that the Islanders are one of the 4 clubs looking at poaching Travis Cloke for the 2013 season, care to comment?
"For the record, the Islanders are not one of the clubs looking at Travis Cloke for the 2013 season."
"He was never on our radar to begin with."
"Thank you all, that concludes todays press conference and as always, GO ISLANDERS!"
With a game and percentage out of the 8, four weeks to go, do the Islanders consider themselves a chance for the finals this year?
Would love a comment about the Chicken wing c4!
With the Islanders at 7-7, I think Judd being suspended for the rest of the season is a massive body blow.
Yes would love to hear what the Islanders thought of it! Also with Petrie injured I think they may lose their shot of making the finals...

BREAKING NEWS!The Pacific Islanders and the Berlin Brewers will play an exhibition match at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait on the weekend of the 17th of August.
(http://www.pays.gov.kw/album/img/81313495659.jpg) (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gJMCSTp8SGs/TKi3lKP0V7I/AAAAAAAADa8/O3-hKzT9ciY/s1600/Jaber+Al-Ahmad+International+Stadium.jpg)
The Islanders today confirmed the game would go ahead between the two teams marking the first WXV match to be held in the Middle East, after an agreement was reached with the Kuwait government.
Pacific Islanders CEO Mark O'Connor said the game would continue to promote the WXV on the international stage and provide growth within the region.
Quote from: Mark O'Connor
"The Middle East is one of the fastest-growing regions in the world in terms of economic prosperity, coupled with a booming population, it was a simple choice on where to promote the WXV next. There is already significant interest within the Middle Eastern community and we hope that this match then provides a platform for further opportunities in the future."
While CEO Mark O'Connor was pleased with the socio-economical benefits the match would bring to the Middle Eastern region, Pacific Islanders Head Coach c4v3m4n was more focused on the match itself.
Quote from: c4v3m4n
"End of the day, while we are here to promote the game and have some fun, there is still a game to be won. The boys have finished the season admirably and deserve a week off, but after that it's game on."
Like c4v3m4n, Berlin Brewers Senior Coach Purple 77 also had his sights on victory. In a brief statement, he was quoted as saying...
Quote from: Purple 77
"I don't mind if the Islanders and c4v3m4n can talk the talk, because I'm certain they can't 'walk the 'walk".
It has also been confirmed that the match between the Islanders and the Brewers will have modified rules (reminiscent of the old AFL competition), subject to player numbers.
- Instead of 15 players-a-side, the match will have 22 players-a-side.
- The team structures will be 6 DEF, 5 MID, 6 FWD, 1 RUC and 4 own choice.
- There will be a sub rule.
- Being a neutral venue match, there will be no home ground advantage rule.
Asked for the reason behind the modified rules, head coach c4v3m4n was quoted as saying:
Quote from: c4v3m4n
"If we've got 22 fit players, then why not bring back the AFL rules just for one game. It is an exhibition match after all. However, should we be unable to field 22 players, then it will revert back to normal WXV rules."
The Pacific Islanders will head to Kuwait early next week to begin training.

Up Late with Stephen Bradshaw
Interview Transcipt
SB: Hello and welcome to tonight's exclusive interview with the Head Coach from the Pacific Islanders, c4v3m4n. I'm Stephen Bradshaw. Let's get straight to it and introduce the forementioned coach, c4v3m4n. Thank you very much for coming.
C4: Absolute pleasure to be here tonight Stephen, looking forward to it.
SB: Tell us a little about yourself c4v3m4n. How did you become Head Coach of the Pacific Islanders?
C4: Jeez, where to start. I've coached various football teams throughout my career, most of which have been quite successful in their own competitions. But in 2009, I caught my lucky break and I was given the opportunity to be an assistant coach at the now defunct Western Bulldogs. After the collapse of the AFL and the formation of new WXV franchises, very few coaches weren't excited about being a part of this new revolution. Unfortunately I missed out on the initial opportunity to become a head coach of one of the new franchises, but I kept strong, because let's face it anything can happen. Amazingly, a few weeks into the World 15s draft, an opportunity arise at the Pacific Islanders and I just had to take that chance. Thankfully, I was awarded the job and well, here we are.
SB: Let's talk about that draft for a moment if I may. The previous coach Carltonrok took the Islanders first 10 picks in the draft before getting sacked. What are your thoughts about his choices? Would you have done anything differently?
C4: Who wouldn't have done things differently if they were given the chance? Even I can categorically say that I made a few drafting mistakes, but live and let live. As for Carltonrok's choices...there are a few I would agree with like Judd, Petrie, Swallow and Walker, but picking Josh Gibson at pick 2 was a little strange and picking a ruckman so late wasn't a great move, though Jolly has more than serviceable.
SB: In your thoughts, had you of been the coach from day one would your team been more or less successful?
C4: It's too hard to look back on the draft and speculate who I MAY have picked. It's just too difficult.
SB: Would Judd have been your number one choice?
C4: He's an amazing player, if not the best modern day player off all-time, but would I have picked him as our first pick had I have been coaching from day one? Sorry Judd, but no. I would have secured a ruckman first due to the strict talent pool. Who it would have been, I honestly don't know.
SB: Moving on now into the season, what were your thoughts after the pre-season WXV Challenge Cup where you had lost 3 out of 3 games?
C4: It was tough, there's no denying that. The media had already labelled the Islanders as favourites to win the wooden spoon due to this abysmal start, but I still maintained the belief that we were going to surprise a lot of teams. The players, assistant coaches, the fans, they all shared that belief and look at what we have achieved.
SB: Obviously you are quite pleased about the Islanders' inaugural season. After Round 7, the Islanders were sitting in 4th and 10 weeks later come the end of the season you've finished 12th. Are you disappointed that you didn't make the finals?
C4: To see the Islanders sitting in 4th place at the end of Round 7 was surreal. 5 wins from 7 games. At that point, I couldn't have been any happier with the performances that our players dished up. From wooden spoon favourites to flag contenders in the space of 2 months. We proved people wrong, something we set out to do and we will continue to do so next year. As for missing out on finals though, I think we can all see that we are more than proud of the season we have produced. So no, I am not disappointed at all, not one bit.
SB: During these early weeks, your health took a turn for the worse after a routine early morning jog. You collapsed on the Islanders training track, after which an ambulance was called, you were taken to the hospital and diagnosed with pneumonia. How did you cope through this time?
C4: I hadn't been feeling well all week. But routine is routine and I got up, got dressed and went for morning jog around the Islanders training ground as I have ever since I moved here. I don't remember much of the collapse, nor getting to the hospital. But once I awoke, my first thought and my family can attest to this, was that I needed to return to the club for work. The doctors then told me that I had pneumonia and I needed to rest. The more I rested, the quicker I could return to work. But all I could think about was the Islanders. Thankfully I had such an amazing group of assistant coaches that took the reigns during the week and took time to visit me so we could work out the team sheets. It was very difficult not being out there and amongst everybody, being involved and most of all, not being there when we won. But time passed and I eventually got better and boy was I glad to be back!
SB: Let's shift the focus slightly and take a look at your playing list. Who do feel has been your standout player, your most suprising and the most disappointing this season?
C4: Judd would have definitely been the standout had played every single game, but Drew Petrie has been amazing up forward. 52 goals, 14 behinds and a SC average of close to 100. He's come a long way in football, but what he has produced this year has been phenomenal. As for most surprising...it's a tough call, but I'm going to have to go with our pocket rocket, Jamie Elliott. Our 28th overall pick and pick number 498 in the draft. What a find he was. Not as good a find as Beijing Bears' Clancee Pearce, but amazing nonetheless. Every week he's getting better, he's going to be a superstar someday. Lastly, most disappointing. Would it shock you if I were to say that I find none of my players disappointing...
SB: No not at all. Everyone has been wanting to know your thoughts on this matter, so here it goes. The Chris Judd "chicken-wing" tackle. What were your thoughts on the tribunals findings?
C4: It's a tough and contentious decision, but I actually feel that the WXV Tribunal got it right. In 2010, Steven Baker got 9 weeks for "making unnecessary contact with an injured player". While Judd maintains that he didn't know what he was doing, the fact of the matter is that he was "making unnecessary contact with an injured player" and there was no escaping punishment.
SB: Looking to the future of the Islanders now. What areas of improvement do you need to make in order to make finals in 2013?
C4: Less injuries and suspensions would be nice. Haha. But in all seriousness, our main focus of the pre-season is finding more goalkickers and working on our forward pressure. More goals, more wins. It's that simple. We've got some amazing young talent coming through in Dion Prestia, David Swallow, Tom Simpkin, Tom Mitchell, Luke Brown and Jamie Elliott and we'll also look to add some more young talent in order to be a power team in the coming years.
SB: There are reported talks amongst your players that many of them are worried about being traded, including your top players. Can you offer any insurance to any of your players?
C4: A club is always striving to improve and be the best and to do so you need the best players. It's a natural process that teams go through when trading players in order to improve their list and we hope the players understand when we say that while we respect our players, our best interests are those of the club. I know that isn't an insurance, in fact its probably the opposite, but a club has got to do what its got to do to survive and grow.
SB: Are you looking at trading quite hard in this upcoming trade window are will you maintain the list you have?
C4: We have an idea of the direction we'd like to go with come trade week, but its not something I'd like to discuss. We've been in contact with various coaches in regards to the availability of certain players and we hope that it is a very successful trading period for all teams.
SB: One final question for you c4v3m4n, where do you see the Pacific Islanders in 5 years time?
C4: On top of the World 15s ladder with our hands firmly around the premiership cup. That's our aim.
SB: c4v3m4n, thank you so much for joining us tonight and thanks for this fantastic insight into your time this year at the Pacific Islanders.
C4: Cheers. Oh and remember, GO ISLANDERS!
Nice script C4 - Well done and good read. Hopefully the London Royals can assistyou in trade week in reaching your goals.
Great read c4, the effort you put into the Islanders is truly admirable - keep it up!
love it c4, terrific read, really!
Awesome read C4
Id like to put that detail into my teams but stupid year 12 haha maybe next year
Great stuff C4, such an awesome read! You put in such great dedication to your team and you update your thread so often. I love it!
Reading all these praises makes it all worth it. :)
And don't worry there'll be more of these in the future. ;)
But I seriously encourage everyone to give it a go themselves. It doesn't have to be anything near what I'm doing, but a small news update here and there provides more interest and separates our competitions from being just about fantasy football scores.
Waves of Prosperityby Brittany O'DoyleIt's amazing what can happen in the space of just one year. This time last year, the AFL surprised us all with the announcement that it was to be disbanded at the end of the season. The shockwaves of the announcement were felt throughout the world and biggest hit were the senior AFL players and their clubs.
However, this was not the end for them. A young entrepreneur by the name of ossie85 radically suggested bringing the AFL game to the world stage and so the World 15s were born. Like the AFL, there would be 18 teams and a full senior list of 46 players. Countries from all of the world bidded for the right to a franchise, and the unlikeliest of regions was awarded a team; the Pacific Islanders.
The team would be based in Fiji, but there would be opportunities for games to be held in Samoa, Tonga and Nauru as well. The four countries banded together to provide an ambitious sporting platform unlike the region has ever seen. 3 entirely new stadiums and a massive redvelopment of another along with a dedicated training facility for the team. The biggest selling point was a brand new state-of-the-art 75,000 seat stadium to be build in Fiji. It would not only host most of the Islanders matches, but in future it will look to host FIFA OFC matches, Rugby World Cup matches and even the World Youth Games.
In October of 2011, the first players were drafted to the Pacific Islanders. Come December they would have a team. Upon arrival to the Pacific, the players and staff were all greeted like rockstars. People came from all corners of the Pacific to welcome in their newest sporting idols. This was the beginning of something magical for the Pacific region.
The first few months were tough due to the Pacific's early on-field losses, however the fans kept coming to watch. With wins on the board and the Pacific a buzz, it was easy to see that there was going to be a tourism and economical boom that will bring prosperity to the region unlike anything ever seen before.
Not long into the season, hotels, motels and caravan parks were booked out for the entire season. Pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes were enjoying increased patronage. Local shops and businesses were having to expand due to the demand. Even countries like Tuvalu, Vanuatu and New Caladonia were enjoying an increase in tourism.
The end of the season is now here and the economical growth within the Pacific region is staggering. The following table outlines the economic growth as a percentage change of GDP.
Name of Country | 2011 GDP | 2012 GDP | Growth |
Nauru | ~$5,000 per capita | $12,500 per capita | 241% |
Tonga | $4,220 per capita | $7,760 per capita | 54.3% |
Samoa | $3,451 per capita | $5,068 per capita | 46.8% |
Fiji | $3,984 per capita | $4,876 per capita | 22.4% |
World | $1,002 per capita | $1,006 per capita | 4.5% |
These statistics sure paint an amazing picture of the staggering economic growth in the Pacific region. Another interesting thing to note, 6 of the fastest growing countries in terms of their GDP growth in the top 10 are Pacific nations, the other being Vanuatu and Kirabati.
But what about the future for the Pacific region? Can the Pacific Islanders sporting team continue to bring futher prosperity to the region? We asked James Walsh, Senior Economonist at the International Monetary Fund (Asia Pacific Department) his thoughts about the future economic growth.
Quote from: James Walsh, Senior Economist"The economic growth in the entire Asia-Pacific region has been mind-blowing. In a time where so many countries are experiencing recession, its simply astounding to see Australian rules football having such a overwhelming effect on the local economy."
"Naturally, the growth within this sector will slow over time but it should remain stable for years to come. Without putting pressure on the Islanders, but their success on the field will also have an impact on future growth as you would normally see with any club. However, world economists including myself will have their eye firmly fixed on the Pacific region for many years."
It's an exciting time for the Pacific region, and it seems like we have the Pacific Islanders Australian rules football team to thank for it.

Jim Stynes Medal Wrap-upby Antonio GrotoluniThe inaugural Jim Stynes Medal Count was held on Friday night, with the night being heralded as an amazing success for everyone involved. Players, coaches and their guests from every WXV club were in attendance and all were represented well. The early focus of the night was of course the Red Carpet, where the males strutted their stuff in their suits and the ladies dazzled in the superbly elegant dresses.
Everyone was exquisitely dressed and heads were turning with every passing couple. Simon Black from the Pacific Islanders and his wife, Catherine Black were one couple that received fantastic comments from critics and the public alike. Simon Black was dressed in a tailor made suit made by Pernac Paris and his wife, Catherine wore a stunning dress made by renowned fashion designer Lisa Ho.

The count got underway at 7:30pm, where the entire room went silent as ex-AFL administrator Andrew Demetriou began to read out the votes with the help of Berlin Brewers senior coach, Purple 77 and the Seoul Magpies head coach ossie85.
Brent Stanton and Gary Ablett lead the count early-on but throughout the night, Gary was the focal point due to his overwhelming favouritism.
Pacific Islanders' captain Chris Judd polled very well early on receiving 8 votes in 7 matches. Collectively, the Islanders polled 24 votes from their first 7 matches in the World 15s.
After a couple rounds with no votes, the second half of the season proved to be more successful as the Islanders polled 28 votes in 8 rounds. Drew Petrie, Darren Jolly and Chris Judd all finished strongly with multiple votes.
But in the end, the praise and congratulations went to Sao Paulo Pumas' captain Gary Ablett who finished with 29 votes, 8 clear of second placed Scott Pendlebury.
Chris Judd just edged out Drew Petrie for the best polling player from the Islanders, 13 to 12. Youngsters Dion Prestia, David Swallow and Sam Reid also managed to poll, showing the competition that the future is bright in the Pacific. The following table outlines all of the vote-getters from the Pacific Islanders and how the scored in each round.

Fans turnout to Appreciation Weekend
by Shaun Webster
The teal and white was out in full force at the Islanders Training Facility this weekend with over 8,000 members and fans turning out for the inaugural Fan Appreciation Weekend.
In a special treat, notable Fijian sportsmen Waisale Serevi, Petero Civoniceva and Lote Tuqiri made special guest appearances to the event to the delight of the fans. Islanders CEO Mark O'Connor took the opportunity to present them each with an Islanders guernsey, each with their respective names and the numbers for which they are famous for.
At the conclusion of each day, senior coach c4v3m4n introduced the full playing list to the crowd, with Serevi, Tuqiri and a young group of Islander supporters wishing the team the best for future.
On what was a fantastic, sunny weekend the crowd enjoyed a range of fun festivities including a football clinic, live entertainment, a player autograph and photo session and an exclusive tour of the Islanders new training facility.
But perhaps the highlight of the weekend was the scratch match the Pacific Islanders players put on. The match even included members of the public who had won a special competition to take part in the match. The two teams, Petrie's Panthers and Blacky's Bulls played a spirited contest, and amazingly the game resulted in a draw, 87 all! (NB: I added up each players SC score from this weekend and I kid you not, 869 points a piece! :o)
The Pacific Islanders would like to thank everyone that came out on the weekend for the Fan Appreciation Weekend. :)

What's the voting system c4?
Quote from: ossie85 on August 15, 2012, 06:14:53 PM
What's the voting system c4?
I've gone for a very different approach than others.
Instead of the whole 3-2-1, or 5-4-3-2-1 voting system based on SC scores, I've looked at the statistics for each game and given votes (5-4-3-2-1) based on their statistical performance for each game.
For example, in Round 1 Todd Banfield kicked 3.1 only got 68 SC points. 9 players scored higher in terms of SC, however, Banfield will be recieving votes based on his performance since he kicked the most goals for that week.
So, basically....Brownlow voting system, but 5-4-3-2-1.
Unique system, should be very interesting!

Islanders Ready for WXV Exhibition MatchBy Jonas McGreevyThe Pacific Islanders have named their provisional team sheet for this weekends exhibition match against the Berlin Brewers to be held at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait.
(http://www.pays.gov.kw/album/img/81313495659.jpg) (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gJMCSTp8SGs/TKi3lKP0V7I/AAAAAAAADa8/O3-hKzT9ciY/s1600/Jaber+Al-Ahmad+International+Stadium.jpg)
There are a few big outs for the game with Josh Gibson, Dion Prestia and David Swallow all unavailable due to injury. However, it gives a few players the opportunity to play first senior game for the Islanders. Luke Delaney, Nathan Blee, Luke Brown and Jonathan Simpkin have all been given the chance to don a guernsey for the first time.
The exhibition match has included a few experimental rules that include:
- 22 players on field, instead of 15.
- Structure is 6 defenders, 5 midfielders, 6 forwards, 1 ruckman, 4 interchange players (any position).
- The Sub Rule has also been included for this match.
- Finally, the nominated vice-captain will recieve a 1.5x boost in score.
Also, this match has a special first, not only for the Islanders but for the World 15s. It is the first match where two brothers have played in the same WXV side. Jonathon Simpkin and Tom Simpkin will lead the squad out on the weekend to mark the special occasion.
The provisional team sheet for the exhibition match has been listed below. Captain, Vice-Captain and possible late changes will be announced around 7pm tommorow evening.

No Happy Ending for the IslandersThe Berlin Brewers edge in class was enough to pull it over the line against a spirited Pacific Islanders outfit, recording a narrow 10 point victory in a frantic finish at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait on the weekend.
The Brewers looked set for a comfortable night when they led by 21 points at quarter time. But the Islanders turned the game on its head, dominating general play to hit the front late in the first half. The third quarter would see a goal-for-goal treat and there was nothing in it at the final break.
The fourth quarter of football will be forever known as the Battle of the Subs. The Islanders brought on Lewis Roberts-Thomson for Matt Campbell and his impact was instant. 2 goals in the space of 3 minutes handed the Islanders a valuable lead early in the first quarter.
However, just when the Brewers looked down and out, substitute Maverick Weller, who came on for Sam Darley early in the fourth term, teamed up with Trent West to help score 4 goals and to hand the Brewers a handy 11 point lead half way through the last quarter.
The Brewers then looked to then blow the game out of the water with multiple inside 50's, but couldn't covert, scoring the next 5 behinds in a row. It was obvious that Buddy Franklin was a missing link up-forward.
The Islanders could only muster one more goal, thanks to ruckman Darren Jolly, but in the end the Brewers walked away victors by 10 points.
As disappointing as the result was for the Islanders, they could take some comfort that they gave the Brewers a scare, setting up a big clash when the two meet next year. Coach c4v3m4n said the effort of pegging back the Brewers' big lead had ultimately told on his players.
"When you come back from a big margin like that early on....it's always going to be an enormous struggle.", c4v3m4n said.
"To hit the front late in the second quarter and keeping the lead going into the final quarter, you're always going to expend a certain amount of energy to try and get over the top and we just ran out of legs in the end."
"The Brewers played it very well, they'll certainly go places next year".

JH: How does it feel to be the overwhelming favourite for tonight Club Champion Award?
CJ: Exciting. It's going to be a fantastic night. From what we've heard, a LOT of effort has been put into making this event one to truly look forward to each and every year.
JH: How have you enjoyed your first year at the Pacific Islanders compared to AFL life in Australia?
CJ: It was a big change for all the players after the disbandment of the AFL. The work and effort that the Pacific nations have put into the team is far greater than one single club had in Australia. I've been thoroughly enjoying my time here and really can't wait hit the famous beaches come summer!
JH: Thanks for your time Chris, and we wish you all the best for tonight's medal count.
CJ: Thanks.
More players from the Islanders are making their way down the Teal Carpet now, youngsters Dion Prestia, Jamie Elliott and Henry Cunningham look very dapper in their suits. Jamie Elliott has gone for a classic 1920's look, complete with the hat.
As we reach the conclusion of the Teal Carpet, its the big man himself, Head Coach of the Pacific Islanders c4v3m4n that has finally arrived to massive applause and cheers. He and his partner casually make their way down the carpet giving a wave to the crowd and signing a couple of autographs.
Well that its for the Teal Carpet Special. We'll be back shortly to bring you all the LIVE action from tonight's Pacific Islanders Club Champion Awards night.
So many big names!!!
Im shaking with anticipation!

OpeningEveryone is now seated. The lights have dimmed.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to tonight's presentation of the Pacific Islanders Club Champion Awards ceremony. To open tonight's ceremony, a band that needs no introduction. The Wrong Direction".
The crowd is puzzled. They talk amongst themselves, wondering who this band is....
The curtain opens and from underneath comes Pacific Islanders assistant coaches, MTTY, Master Q, hawk_88, Impromptu and charliesheen. The music starts and the crowd erupts in laughter as the five of them begin to sing One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful"! :o ;D ;D
The song might be autotuned and out-of-time, but the crowd doesn't care, they are loving this opening performance! The rumors were true, the boys have totally the delivered a hilarious opening to the night!
The song ends and the crowd give the coaches a standing ovation filled with clapping, cheers, whistling, the works. Watch out One Direction, it looks like you've got some fierce competition! ;)
The Medal CountThe spotlight shifts to the lecturn on the stage.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please make welcome your host for this evening, former Melbourne player and media personality, Garry Lyon".
"Tonight we are hear to celebrate the Pacific Islanders' inaugural season in the World 15s and to award the first Club Champion Award. Along with this prestigious award, we will also be awarding awards to the best player under the age of 23, the best reserves player of the year and a "Players Choice" award."

(PS. Just so you all know, there will be a few minute delay between each post as I get them ready. Also after Round 3, the writing dies off as I ran out of time but I'll write up more afterwards)
Round 1
Wellington Warriors 21.18.144 defeated Pacific Islanders 18.20.128
The Pacific Islanders first WXV home and away game was a day of celebration as it was the birth of a new sporting era in the world. The game had many significances, many firsts, and it was surely a day to remember.
The first and only match between the Wellington Warriors and the Pacific Islanders saw the introduction of the Oceanic Cup, a trophy awarded to the winning team. It was here, that the Islanders first rivalry was born.
The historic Pacific Islanders inaugural team is as follows:
DEF: Josh Gibson, Nicholas Smith, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Tim Mohr
MID: Chris Judd (C), Simon Black (VC), Daniel Kerr, David Swallow
FWD: Drew Petrie, Quinten Lynch, Sam Reid, Matt Campbell
RUC: Darren Jolly
INT: Dion Prestia, Todd Banfield
EMG: Matthew Jaensch, Matthew Watson, Henry Cunningham
The game itself was a fierce and fiery first encounter, with both teams out to prove themselves early. Tim Mohr is his first ever senior Australian rules football match was given a tough initiation, talking power forward Taylor Walker. Their battle throughout the night was one to keep a close eye on, as both players were niggling the other.
The Islanders veteran player, Simon Black played one of the best matches in his long career, amassing 30 possessions, 10 tackles, 9 clearances and his highest ever SC score of 152. Black's teammate at the Brisbane Lions, Todd Banfield also starred with 3 fantastic goals.
Unfortunately, all this hard work was not meant to be, as the Pacific Islanders went down by 16 points. With 3 losses from the pre-season cup and a first round loss, it seemed like the Islanders could be in for one long season.

Round 3
London Royals 11.24.90 defeated by Pacific Islanders 17.13.115
After enjoying and celebrating their first ever win in the World 15s, the Pacific Islanders were then up beat about their chances of beating the London Royals. After what would be their longest flight of the entire season, the mood within the Islanders' camp quickly changed.
Arriving fairly fatigued, the Islanders knew they were in for a difficult task against a young spirited Royals team. The Royals kicking would be their undoing as the Islanders walked away with the 4 points; winning by 25 points.
Quinten Lynch was continuing his great start to the season kicking another 3 goals, but Chris Judd put in another man of the match performance with 35 touches, 11 clearances and a goal.

The Unsung Hero Award
Everyone in the football community know that these medal counts are predominately won by midfielders and forwards.
Tonight we honor the Pacific Islanders best defender with the Unsung Hero award. The coaching panel and leadership group at the Pacific Islanders voted on the best defender and the medal will be presented by Group Chief Executive Officer for BSP, Mr. Ian B. Clyne.
"Thank you gentlemen. It is a privilege and an honour to be a part of such a great sporting franchise, dare I say it, the best sporting franchise in the World. A big claim, but the heart and soul that comes from within this small Pacific region makes this place that extra bit special. We wish the Islanders all the best in the off-season and into next season."
"Now, the winner of the 2012 Pacific Islanders Unsung Hero Award goes to...."
"....Josh Gibson!"

"A big massive thank you to everyone that turned up tonight, especially the coaches from other World 15 teams, we appreciate your support."

Great work Islanders! 8)
Spring Cleaning at the IslandersExactly two weeks ago today, the WXV off-season kicked into gear with the WXV Major Trading Window, wherein all players and draft picks from the 2013 National Draft and the 2013 Rookie Draft could be traded without restriction.
Head Coach of the Pacific Islanders, c4v3m4n, held a major press conference on eve of the first day of trading, with a bold and ruthless plan.
Quote"The assistant coaches and I, along with the approval of the Pacific Islanders board, have decided to take the Islanders playing list into a new direction, heralding a new future for this magnificent club."
"As of tomorrow, we will be seeking only players of youth, and be seeking to move on players of experience."
"Whilst a lot of our fans may not agree with this new direction, believe us when we say, it is in the clubs best interest. We were disadvantaged from the start and the best way forward, is to take 3 steps back."
"For the players that leave the Islanders during this first trading period, we wish them all the best of luck for the future in the WXV and we can't thank them enough for being part of this club fantastic first year".
Two weeks into the trading week now and the outs and ins are truly staggering.
Chris Judd, Dion Prestia, Josh Gibson, Andrew Walker, Drew Petrie all gone. There are also rumors that Daniel Kerr, Simon Black, LRT are not far off leaving either. :o
However, while the major stars of the Islanders 2012 campaign have found new homes at other WXV clubs, the newest stars have made their way to the club.
Enter Sam Blease, Jarryd Blair, Jordan Lisle, Tom Rockliff, Claye Beams, Ben Cunnington and Sam Docherty. The future of the Islanders.
Couple these players with the young talent of Matthew Jaensch, Matthew Watson, Anthony Miles, Jamie Elliott, Curtly Hampton, Tom Mitchell, Luke Brown, Jarrod Witts, the Islanders seem to have made the right moves towards a premiership in the not-too-distant future.
Unfortunately, with the end of season also comes delistings. Kelvin Lawerence and Steve Clifton are the first players that were delisted by the club, but the Islanders have retained the rights both players should they change their mind.
In breaking news that came as this article was being written, the young superstar David Swallow has been traded for Jeremy Howe and Sam Darley along with picks either side.

Eddie McGuire Tonight
with special guest c4v3m4n
McGuire: "Hello everyone and welcome to Eddie McGuire Tonight! We have a very special guest tonight, head coach of the WXV team, the Pacific Islanders Football Club, c4v3m4n!"
*c4v3m4n enters the room to massive applause*
c4v3m4n: "Thanks for having me along Eddie. Great to be here".
*shakes hand and both sit down*
Eddie: "The Pacific Islanders captured the hearts and minds of this newly formed global competition. Before the season started, most media journalists and fans had you as favourites for the wooden spoon due to your early setbacks. You've proved everyone wrong in your first season as coach. How have you found your first year?"
c4v3m4n: "Loved every minute. Building a team from scratch was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done in my short time as a football coach. Proud doesn't describe the feeling I have for the members of the inaugural Islanders team. We were described as 'wooden spoon material' and 'easybeats', but being in the top 4 half way through the 2013 season proved we were no easy beat."
Eddie: "As you mentioned, last season you started brilliantly sitting pretty in the top 4 before falling off and missing finals. What (if any) plans are in place to prevent this in 2013?"
c4v3m4n: "Well, as I am sure everyone is currently aware, the Islanders have decided to head in a different direction for the 2013 season by implementing a strict youth policy. Due to those early setbacks and the youth already in the team, it only made sense to look at the option of rebuilding this club and aiming for a premiership within 5 or so years. With this is mind, getting to the finals in 2013 will be a challenge, but if we pull it off, it continues to show that the Islanders are the gutsiest, most determined team in the WXV."
Eddie: "Why would you trade your best player (Chris Judd)?"
c4v3m4n: "I have always maintained that the best way forward for this club is to take two steps back. The Judd trade was tough, but we did get two top 5 draft picks in return and with the hype of this current draft, it seems like that trade worked out for the best. Chris Judd will always be remembered as the first inagural captain and will have a special place amongst us. We wish him well for the future, we know he will continue to do great things."
Eddie: "Are you concerned disgruntled fans will abandon the club after having lost 10 of your top 11 B&F pollers fom this year?
c4v3m4n: "It has crossed my mind yes and I was aware of that statistic. The Islanders are by far the most loyal fans in the entire competition and I have the upmost faith that they will continue to support us, especially with the new future stars of the competition playing for us. There is some amazing talent, Longer, Howe, Lisle, Mitchell, Rockliff just to name a few, its a very exciting time and we hope that the fans will join us along for the ride."
Eddie: "What has been the most beneficial trade of the window for the Islanders?"
c4v3m4n: "There hasn't been one that wasn't beneficial to be honest. I am very happy with the youth that we have brought into the team including during this recent week where we have obtained players like Jeremy Howe, Ben Howlett, Billy Longer and Sam Darley. I simply cannot wait until Round 1, we're putting one hell of a team together".
Eddie: "Who do you expect to be leading the team in 2013? Which names are being considered for the leadership group?"
c4v3m4n: "The leadership group for the 2013 season won't be announced until early next year. With another trade window still to go, its hard to know who will still be here. Haha."
Eddie: "Sounds like you're suggesting there will be more list movement? Aren't you worried about the playing list becoming unsettled with all these changes?"
c4v3m4n: "I'm not worried at all. My assistant coaches and I are making sure that the list will be in the best shape it can be for Round 1 2013. There are some other trades in the pipeline, and that information will be made public in due time."
Eddie: "What do you think the Islanders lack leading up to the 2013 season?"
c4v3m4n: "Our primary concern at the moment is strengthening our defence. Currently our best defender, Nicholas Smith, was the 93rd best defender in the competition. While I have the upmost faith that our other defenders will be on the rise on 2013, we would love to have someone like Phil Davis, Ryan Shoenmakers, Tom McDonald or if possible someone like Dyson Heppell or Jack Grimes on the team to solidify the backline".
Eddie: "Turning our focus to Round 1, 2013. There are talks between yourself, head coach of the Revolution Sid and WXV Administrator ossie85 about holding a Cup match in honor of the late John McCarthy and Jim Stynes. Tell us a little bit about that."
c4v3m4n: "That's right, Sid and I have been discussing the idea of holding a Cup match to honor the late John McCarthy and Jim Stynes in what will be known as the Reach Foundation Cup. Seeing as our teams are youth-orientated and Jim Stynes was heavily involved with the youth program Reach, we though it was only fitting that we came together to old a match in his honor as well as the late youngster John McCarthy and to also raise money for the Reach Foundation. The player deemed to be best on ground for this match will be awarded the John McCarthy Medal as a way of honoring him. We have been in talks with ossie about holding it in Round 1, and we are hopeful something can be arranged."
Eddie: "The Pacific Islanders have always been seen as trendsetters in this competition, as North were with the VFL. Do you have any future plans for new trendsetting ideas?"
c4v3m4n: "As a matter of fact we do. But again, you'll have to just wait and see. One of them will be announced in coming hours actually, the others not until next year I am afraid."
Eddie: "It seems like we are running out of time, so to finish off, some quick fire questions".
c4v3m4n: "Shoot".
Eddie: "Who'll win the 2013 WXV Premiership?"
c4v3m4n: "Sao Paulo Pumas in a stunning upset".
Eddie: "Who'll be the biggest mover?"
c4v3m4n: "Revolution or Sands".
Eddie: "Who'll be the biggest faller?"
c4v3m4n: "Bears".
Eddie: "Where will the Islanders finish in 2013?"
c4v3m4n: "10th. I hope. Dunno why but 10th."
Eddie: "Who'll be the new Clancee Pearce and surprise people in 2013?"
c4v3m4n: "Ugh...Angus Monfries".
Eddie: "Thank you so much c4v3m4n for your time, it's been a pleasure".
c4v3m4n: "No, thank you Eddie and as always
GO ISLANDERS!".
Monfries >:D
Trade Window Week 3 Wrap UpWeek 3 of the WXV trading window has come and gone and even more players have left the Islanders. 10 out of the top 11 vote getters in the Pacific Islanders B&F count have now left the club in an increasingly concerning new youth policy that head coach c4v3m4n has implemented.
This week youngsters David Swallow, Levi Greenwood, senior players Daniel Kerr, Simon Black, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Darren Jolly and recently traded in players Sam Docherty and Ben Cunnington all left the Islanders this week in return for talented youngsters Jeremy Howe, Sam Darley, Ben Howlett, Billy Longer and Matthew Leuenberger.
In a statement today, head coach c4v3m4n said that the club was on the right track and the end was in sight.
Quote from: c4v3m4nAll in all, a very productive week for the Islanders. We are very happy with these signings, especially the big signing of Matthew Leuenberger. A very promising ruckman with a bright future at the Islanders. The job isnt over though, there are a few more players we have targeted and once they are secured, that's pretty much it.
An updated list of the Islanders playing group is below.

Forging New Alliancesby Marcus StephensonAfter being the first XV club to introduce guernseys, logos, posters, membership packages etc. The Pacific Islanders WXV club has announced today, yet another first for the XVs competition. After putting hostilities and rivalries aside, the Pacific Islanders have announced that they have forged "brother club" affliations with three other XV clubs in other competitions.
The Pacific Islanders WXV Football Club has now aligned and affiliated themselves with:
- The British Lions EXV Football Club
- The Liverpool Lobsters BXV Football Club
- The Sri Lanka Strikers AXV Football Club
The "brother club" affiliation between these clubs is a first for the overall competition and issues in a new level of prosperity for all of the clubs.
Members of the Pacific Islanders WXV Football Club now have reciprocal benefits at each of the Lions, Strikers and the Lobsters home games and well as discounted memberships and merchandise. Discounted travel packages will also be available from next year.
Head Coach of the Pacific Islanders, c4v3m4n, who recently accepted an assistants role at the Sri Lanka Strikers AXV Football Club, explained that after joining the Strikers he approached head coach Jayman and began exploring the idea of "brother club" affiliations.
Quote from: c4v3m4n"A lot of coaches in the WXV are involved in same way with other XV clubs. Coaches helping other coaches, its a great start but as usual, we like to explore how we can take it one step further."
"The Pacific Islanders are truly excited by this new initiative. We hope these ties will offer up new opportunities and promote any cross-projects of mutual benefit in the future between these fantastic clubs."
The four clubs have also agreed upon sharing training facilities at each respective clubs and also one day hope to hold intra-competition matches.
Quote from: c4v3m4n"With the idea of a Champions League being thrown around where WXV clubs would play other EXV, AXV and BXV clubs in some way, we believe that then opens up a realistic possibility for intra-club friendlies in the future and these team would be the first we'd ask. "
The affiliation will last until the end of the 2013 season, where the initiative will be reviewed and extended should it be deemed successful.

I thought ossie already did something like this, glad to be proven wrong :P
Does it need saying? Top work as usual 8)
Haha yep ossie has already created an affiliation with a club from each league. Plus I'm fairly sure I was the first team to create a logo for their club :P
Edit: Yep, just checked and I was using my logo as DP the day after you were announced coach of the Islanders, and had designed it before you even joined the comp :P

I wasn't aware of ossie's affiliations. Was hard to find as it was just a small announcement. :P
Well, the Islanders were still the first to have a their own page, theme song, guernseys, home grounds, posters, press conferences, membership packages etc. More firsts than any other club combined. ;) :P

LIVE PRESS CONFERENCEPacific Islanders CEO Mark O'Connor, Head Coach c4v3m4n and Director of Coaching Master Q enter the room.
Mark O'Connor: "Thank you everyone for coming tonight to this another Pacific Islanders press conference. Please be seated".
"What an exciting time for the Islanders. Our post-season trading window is in full swing and with the youth that is being brought in, it's safe to say, the future looks bright."
"There has been a lot of talk lately that this trading window has been damaging to the Islanders. Let it be known that the Islanders board fully backs and supports the youth policy that Head Coach c4v3m4n has implemented. It was put in place to fix past mistakes and will herald in a new age of success for this new club."
"The Islanders have called this meeting to announce some new changes to the club for the upcoming 2013 season".
"Firstly, the Islanders' main sponsors have changed for 2013."
"Air Pacific has joined the Islanders team as the main sponsor for 2013 and will also be the airline of choice for players, staff and members."
"Westpac has resigned with the Islanders in a three year deal as the minor sponsor."
"There will be no changes to any of the stadium sponsors at present".
Secondly, the have been changes made to the make up of the coaching staff at the Pacific Islanders". :o
Assistant coaches charliesheen and Impromptu have decided to take a leave of absence from the Islanders. We wish them the best of health, luck and prosperity during their time away from the club. We hope they return back soon. :)
The board has also decided to remove Master Q from his role of Director of Coaching.
Instead, he will join Head Coach c4v3m4n and become a Co-Head Coach of the Pacific Islanders.
Master Q has been instrumental in the shaping of this club and wanted to become more involved. Without him, c4v3m4n and the other assistant coaches, this fantastic club wouldn't be fantastic.
Assistant coach MTTY will also be placed in a new role of Recruitment and Talent Manager.
Finally, assistant coach hawk_88 has moved into the role of Player Development Manager.
This being said, the Islanders are now looking for people to fill the void in the following positions: Director of Coaching and Sport Science Manager. Please send all applications to c4v3m4n.
I will now hand the press conference over to Co-coaches c4v3m4n and Master Q. Thank you.
Quote from: Master Q
I am looking forward to working with c4v3m4n more and improving our team! My aim is to bring the Islanders much success in the future and hopefully bring home some premierships!
c4v3m4n: "Master Q has been a massively great help to me over the past couple months and I believed it was time that he joined me at the helm. I too look forward to working together and building the best possible future for this club."
"This all from us here at the Islanders today. Thank you all for coming".
