Title: Luigi On FTP. The 'Help Luigi' Thread.
Post by: Luigi197 on July 04, 2011, 04:16:18 PM
71.4% of people wanted me to join, and the remaining 28.2% voted not for me to join. i have joined. thanks :)

The more reviews and positive feedback I hear about it, posted in this thread, will convince me even more stay longer on FTP. So you can answer any of my questions, explain the different parts of the game, and give it your own rating and review; and that may further your case in getting me to join and stay on FTP.

PS: I have now joined up on FTP!! I will toss up some questions that i may want answered.. :)

Luigi :)

First of all, what's DTP? :P

It's similar to soccer manager in the way that you can just set orders (tactics) on the day of your match and then that's it. If you want to improve your team it will tka e abit more dedication, but you don't have to be on 24/7 or anything like that. Most if us just choose to be on that much. :P

Can check in once a week and do fine ;). Just need to set matches and once a week is more than enough :P.

To buy a good team may take a little while but should get a solid base right now for cheap ;). Up to you if you want to join as it's fun. Don't have to get addicted to it. I can go without it but I get bored alot :(.

There is only one reason that you should join FTP - cos its the most awesomest (is that a word  :P) game in the world ... oh and because all the guys on FF that play FTP are awesome.

Seriously it is extremely good fun. but as the others said, you can easily manage your team without the need to be on there every spare minute that you have (although it is strongly advised  :P)

You register now and you likely won't get it until the weekend anyway :P.

League games start next week (Tuesday) so have a day or so to start building your senior lineup (as start up players aren't very good).

BB and cookie  --  this is a 'help Luigi thread' , not a tell Luigi to join canada thread. Help him get his squads built up and let him make his own decisions about where his allegiances are. He needs advice with helping him to play the game, not which country to join.

To be honest i am getting sick of all this BS about which country is the best, where to pull from etc. Each individual has the right to decide for themselves who to associate with, but cookie - your constant dribbling on about canada being the best is really starting to piss me off. Everyone is entitled to voice their own opinion, but I am tired of you ramming your opinion down everybody's throats. Shaggy is a Nat assistant for Australia, and not once have I heard him brag that Australia is the best and that we should all swear our allegiances to them. He just does his Nat job and lets everyone else play the game how they like.

But Australia is the best :P. Go to say that I am a tad active in the Australian boards over on their forums :P. I agree with Baz though as you can't shove something down his throats. BB may try to persuade him but Luigi gets the decision. I go for Australia even though they are one of the bigger nations as I basically can't be stuffed going elsewhere. Tried going to New Zealand but ::). The U19 managers in Australia gave me a shot and are nice blokes so why not back to Australia 8). Gotta search around for yourself before you decide. Took me 2 seasons before I came up with mine.

My team is from all around the world as I like multi-cultural players. Don't care what nation they are from, as long as they fit the bill 8).

You could but not for quite some time. ALOT of people take the NAT managers very seriously so will only be given to experienced managers or those well known in that community.

But I tend to try and make my players into Superstars and play for their country 8). It's funner as you see them grow :D.

how about Leagues?

FF Leagues or something?

yeah it seems pretty fun HP and i get that feeling being a nat assistant wishing to see one of my players playing there. Feels good to see players recruited from your academy but would be better if you trained them up yourself to nats

Leagues are random for each country. You'll be put in the highest division in that country with a Bot team.

We usually make a competition or something where we play others from FF. Even without them, can challenge other FF users to a friendly (as is the competitions) on each Sunday (and Thursday if you are a Pav member).

No there are 7 skills- Batting, Bowling, Endurance, Keeping, Fielding, Power and Technique.
So for example my guy was-
Batting- Ordinary
Bowling-Ordinary
Fielding-Average
Keeping-Reasonable
Power-Dreadful
Endurance- Capable
Technique- Ordinary
Then all up his rating is 25000 (plus Spare ratings, which you will learn about later).

FTP doesnt have a tutorial :|
I would advise, if you want, getting a mentor here- http://www.fromthepavilion.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2295&start=1380
The mentor will help you get better, I had one and helped me get on my feet- but still hang around here ;)

Read through all that Luigi as it's sort of a tutorial and tells you all the basics really. I also refer back to it for pitchs, prizemoney and other stuff.

When it comes to buying players, look for Cap/Cap at least (usually Rel/Rel) Bat/Bowl and Tech 20 year olds as you may get quite a few for less than 10k.

You set the role. The game can't define what you have purchased that player for. It's purely to help you define your lineup. The role category is not essential.

Your lineup's are on the main page in your match section.

Luigi, the role is the position they play in your lineup. I have never heard of roles. YOu can change their training. Here is what each training skill does.

Batting   Batting, technique, endurance
Bowling   Bowling, technique, endurance
Keeping   Keeping, technique, fielding, endurance
Fielding   Fielding, technique, endurance
Fitness   Endurance, power
All-rounder   Batting, bowling (equal amount to batting), technique, endurance
Batting technique   Technique, batting, endurance.
Bowling technique   Technique, bowling, endurance.
Strength   Power, endurance.
Rest   Recovers one level of fatigue
Keeper-Batsman   Keeping, batting, technique, fielding, endurance

The better skills they have, the higher rating, plus the summaries are a combination of (not sure on this)
The skill, technique, power, experience and form.

The better skills they have, the higher rating, plus the summaries are a combination of (not sure on this)
The skill, technique, power, experience and form.
I think what he means BB is the players rating...

One player might be rated 40,000 and have a Spec skill, and another might be 42,000 and not have a Spec skill

The answer is the ratings are a combination of all skills. Each skill being worth 1,000 points ranging from;
atrocious - 0 to legendary being 15,000. A list of all the levels can be found by hovering over the skill.

A players rating changes as you train them, and we have a thing called Spare ratings where all the combination of their skills might total 38,000 but their rating is 40,000, thus they have 2,000 in Spare ratings, thus they have some sub-levels in particular skills, but what is for you to find out by training them....

No. Thats the summary. Ratings are additions of all the skills numbered ratings, plus spare ratings. Spare ratings are:
R: Overall Rating
S: Spare Rating
B: Batting
Bo:Bowling
T: Technique
P: Power
E: Endurance
F: Fielding
K: Keeping
So spare ratings are:
R- (B+Bo+P+T+E+F+K)=S

No always, it depends if they have irrelevant skills like Bowling/Keeping for a good batsmen, etc

A good Out/out batsmen with Ord Bowling and Avg keeping may not be as good as a Spec/Spec batsmen with atrocious bowling/keeping. The latter may have a lower rating as the first one has an extra 7,000 in ratings...

I'm guessing you mean ratings (e.g 39,000 Spect/Spect to a 43k Outs/Outs?). This is because of the other skills also contributing to the overall ratings (e.g Endurance, Fielding, Power, etc). I think that's what you wanted to know?

On their page, along the right column there should be an option to sell/fire player. If it's a player you originally started with, probably best to fire them as they won't sell (unless it's a youth who may sell but depends).

I don't use the bidding agent but I'm not a Pav member. It's handy if it's at a time you can't reach a comp when a player ends.

It just disappears and you will lose some functions (e.g bidding agent, more indepth search, somethings you can view during match, etc). You can win a friendly tournament but we usually just play friendlies or somebody makes it on here for fun. You can buy Pav membership (a month or two or even for a year). This is if you like the game and will continue for a while. No point buying it if you don't get FTP just yet. If you seem to like it after a few weeks and have a little spare change, can get some membership but not a neccesity.

your reserve is the amount you want to pay for the player

the agent will keep you in front of the bidding by placing the next bid by the amount that you set

if you get outbid up until your reserve price

FTP is free, paying will give you added features. Only way you can stop playing is you create a second team, cheat, or don't log on for 50 days.

I haven't had membership for months. You don't NEED it to play as it's free. You can't win matches to extend membership, have to pay or win friendly comps made by other managers. Usually have to either win these comps or pay (or get somebody else to pay for you as a gift). But you don't need it to play as it only gives you more access to other areas on the site. Can still enjoy the game very much without it.

Also Luigi, just looked at your seniors and you have 25 in there :o. I'd fire quite a few of them before training so that the ones you keep can get the most out of their training.

Fire the seniors from lowest wage up (under $1,000) as you will be getting rid of your worst seniors and list cloggers.

Keegan Bray in your Youth team is a your STAR for your Youths 8). Elliott Herman was a bargain at 8k but his wage may be a little too large to handle at first. But we'll see ;).

Before i started firing, i gave my players roles just to see where i have the most players, then fire from the worst up. Leave about 13-16 seniors

I tend to go Batting or Bowling for all rounders. During this time, A tech pop will come up to let it catch up :P. If not, 2-3 weeks of Tech will catch it up.

I don't do all rounder training as well as it's a long term plan but takes probably over a season to get the pops from that kind of training.

Title: Re: Luigi On FTP. The 'Help Luigi' Thread.

And im also REALLY confused in someone's training program.
I'm not sure what to put them on..
They might be a senior who is bad at Bowling, but if i put him on bowling, it most likely wont rise, so i put him on fielding.
But a youth is rubbish at everything, so i put him as an all-rounder.
So i end up with all Seniors for Fielding, and all Youths for All-Rounders.

Helpp!! ?

You put your players on what you want them to be good at Luigi.

Don't put a good batsmen on AR training, if he is in your side purely as a batsmen, same with Youths.

Fielding/Endo/Power training are secondaries and need to also be worked just like any normal person would work on them, whether they're a batsmen or bowler.

Remember it takes a number of weeks for players to pop, so don't think they're going to pop every week.

If you hover over the talent, you'll see what they specialise in. An Opener is only good at batting. If he is bad at batting, then its a wasted talent. A New Ball Bowler gets a bonus when opening the bowling

Secondaries (Endurance, Fielding, Power) need to be trained pretty much always, but Primaries (Batting, Bowling, Technique) normally only one is meant to be trained, depending on what they are in your squad for. Keeping is only for keepers.

An example would be Herman, your 28yo RFS, he has Gifted Endurance, therefore he trains faster in Endo than other skills.

He also would need to be trained in fielding, as it only poor. Although this will only increase at a slowish rate due to being 28. At this age Power/Endo are the best to train in. He doesn't really need Power though as he is a spinner.

I can come over whenever. As you are starting out, pick your own lineup, play it for one game, then the next click suggest orders and determine which one is better.

Ok. ATM i think the suggested line-up is good considering the players i have.
Maybe when i have more players to choose from i will put more of my own thoughts into it...

Speaking of which, do you gain money from anything except by selling players? If so how much and how?

Yeah, gate takings, and sponsorship.

You gain money each week from Sponsorship.  You also gain money from gate takings (small percentage on away games, large percentage on home games).  You also get money from gate takings in the Pavilion Cup (PC for short) which is split 50/50.

I am not sure if you get gate takings from challenge games (as I never play them).

Pav cup is split 50/50. I've never won a Pav Cup game, and looks like I won't for another season, playing a very high ranked team - again. Once you get into the later rounds you get given extra prize money  which makes up for the fatigue lost as you are playing an extra game each week.

Home games you get the majority of the money.

I think the ticket price is different per division

SOD
Gate Takings = $45,710
Tickets Sold = 7,824
= $5.84 per ticket

T20
Gate Takings = $36,960
Tickets Sold = 8,000
= $4.62 per ticket

Those were my last 2 games takings

Yeah CF, i dont think i will have a good chance of beating you in our friendly soon, but maybe later on in the season once i get newer and better players, i MIGHT have a chance ;)
The only thing I am struggling with now, is deciding on which players to get. Cookie says i need a better batsman. But the good batsmen outhere, along with every other good player, have bids way too high for me to handle. So i might need to sell some players. Suggestions for players i should sell? And suggestions for players, or players in positions, that i should buy?

Have this batter for sale currently Luigi: http://www.fromthepavilion.org/player.htm?playerId=460665

Alex has highest bid (not sure if he's going for him so gotta ask him). If he stays low, could go for him if you want a batter (wouldn't break the bank for him though).

I'll look at your team Luigi and see what you need :).

2nd guy will be servicable in your Youths (Constant Tech training though).
1st guy looks alright although Fielding is just :'(. I don't even allow Youths to be below Poor when I buy them!

Need to invest into your academies until it says improving. Put an extra $500-1000 in to allow for weekly fluctuations in average spending into them (over FTP).

But don't invest if you are in debt/going to be. Only invest if you can manage to stay in the green.

Wouldn't put a random amount in. Try to keep it on improving or + or even ++ (if you can afford it). I suggest investing into seniors for the short term until you feel you can put into your Youths without running a loss.

I started with Youths the same time as Seniors but it meant my Seniors fell a bit behind the rest of FF despite the majority starting after me. It was a sacrifice but allows you to take interest in your youth team and hopefully tune out a few Seniors (2 already with about 2-3 who just couldn't fit into tmy team after being bought at a young age). It's fun watching them grow but does eat alot of cash academy wise.

My youths are as skilled at cricket as sheldon is at detecting sarcasm ;D
Luigi, invest a bit in youths if you want, but I never did and it helped me compete quickly as I slowly turned my team into a group of pensioners ;D
Youths have been proving to not make money but add another dimension to the game.

As by your ratings, it says your Spinners are your strong point. I'd try to make a pitch which favors them. Although, it depends on your strength in the batters or bowlers. If your bowlers are strong, try to get a bowler's pitch to help them. Vice versa with the batters and a batters pitch.

Any other comments, suggestions or advice?
Obviously my team isnt going to get anywhere if i dont buy any players; but i dont have enough cash!
Should i just wait a little while and take some Gate Takings and what-not, so i get more money, then i can buy! right? but who would i aim to buy?

Any training's i should change? any i should look out for?
tips on my academy?
anyone got a Friendly Comp i can join?

-btw, do players Pop and Plop in a BOT team?
Title: Re: Luigi On FTP. The 'Help Luigi' Thread.
Post by: Justin Bieber on July 25, 2011, 09:24:16 PM
No pops/plops in Bot teams.

I'd say keep improving academies if possible, especially Seniors.
Keep an eye on the TM incase a player is going for cheap, but make sure you don't get carried away and get into a bidding war ;). Always bargains floating around but hard to find them :(.

Try to work on orders with your current lineup. If some players seem to consistently not perform (underperform) then could try to change things up (e.g moving a batter at 5 to 2 to see if he can score better there if he's fallen in like 2-3 games for less than 15 or something).

Post by: Luigi197 on July 25, 2011, 09:29:06 PM
I have been doing the suggested line up, so based on my performances recently, maybe i should just tweak that a bit and see where it gets me, right?

But i though I should invest in my Youths a bit more? Cause they are pretty bad ATM; or are my Seniors struggling. Currently i am investing a bit more (6000 more) on my Youths.
Title: Re: Luigi On FTP. The 'Help Luigi' Thread.
Post by: Justin Bieber on July 25, 2011, 09:33:35 PM
Youths will always struggle ;). Only reason people invest in Youths is to eventually be able to pull and live off their Youth academy rather than going onto the Transfer Market. A very long term plan so don't need it straight away. Seniors are where the main money is at and where you are more oriented at first so would go their first.

I never do suggested lineup as I like making mine from scratch then setting default orders to my starting XI then tweak from there. Only the bad performers you can try to revise their positions if they haven't performed for quite some time ;).

I think thats because a lot of my youths are dont really have a specialty in bowling or batting.
so i split all of those type of people into bowlers, batters and allrounders. then train them in that thing.

I have never seen this message before Luigi

Forza WEW have already arrived and are warming up for a big day. No doubt they will be singing loudly later on and making things difficult for the away team.

I think you're in for a long game.

A very very hard game to win, over 8000 supporters are not going to be helping you.

It just means he is a member and has a supporter base who comes to the game. No biggie.

I was about to, but no one responds to me there :(
People there only worry about themsleves, their games, people they are negotiating with, and pros. Not spuds like me atm :(
