What happened to the old thread?
Bit of arguing so got rid of it.
so currently my team is...
PG MJ
SG Kobe
SF Lebron
PF KG
C Howard
do u think 10 players is enough?
current roster sizes r 12 active 15 total which might be a little large...
thoughts?
haha sorry Marcz. nothing changes though just needed a clean up 8)
no worries mate it was a poor attempt at a South Park joke :P

haha i love southpark ;D
yea im happy with whatever roster. 10 or 12, its up to you guys..
Marcz, you is so greedy! Garnett and Howard??! ;)
now who am i s'posed to pick next?!? :'(
Marcz wins because there will be casualfans voting. However, if you looked @ the stats, every player on that team has over 30% USG. So obviously the team wouldn't work. Individual, its the best team though.
to be honest there was 2guys i rate above them but it would go against my strategy...
il pm u them if u want?
2 guys over KG that haven't been picked? Who?
yeah, PM them to me too ... i need to work out who else to pick now that you've taken both KG and Howard ... ;)

those guys may not vote tho so its no lock too win its just my strategy... u cant believe the stats r the bible tho these guys could defer and adapt to each others game and the more dominant player for a game would be whatever the defense was giving them... when players r as great as these they find away to win thats why dream teams win gold medals
Timberwolves could win in the olympics tbh. The gap is just wayyyy to big. Its the individuals putting on a big show rather tthen the actual team.

::) pretty sure they lost in 04 and that team couldve run ragged any team u can name in of the Timberwolves history... even an alltime Twolves team
could not beat the 04 dream team.
I don't think you understood what I said.
Instead of the usa team going to the oynpics, they could've sent any nba team and won. 04 was funny.
Really? That would be interesting to watch.

::) dude ur impossible
It would be. I guess you don't realise how big the gap is?
The 06 World Championships must have been a big gap too. Surprised they only got 3rd then too.
But Marcz, don't continue it on... It must be true, Andrew said it. Otherwise he will get his 'buddies' to come here once again, register and defend his opinion.
Cool story bro.
Not going to argue, because I'll be a White Goodman if I do.
Also, I defended my opinion with facts. We can go back to the Kobe>Shaq thing again if you want? I'd rather not though.
statistics arent the bible and u r not the lord.
They are in this game. You should realise this.
what that u r the lord :P
lol... No.
Stats are everything in this game. Is all.
Public Opinion > Your opinion... And that public thinks you are a White Goodman. I just so happen to be a member of the public.
As for Kobe>Shaq, keep bringing it up and I will keep telling you exactly what I have said. Shaq peak > Kobe peak. Kobe career > Shaq career. Kobe>Shaq.
On and Andrew, move on son.
lol. Kobe>Shaq career? Give me a break. Kobe isn't even the hair on SHaqs big baboon ass.
But I've already shown my work. You're just too stubborn to admit you are wrong.
I'm White Goodman, thats fine. If a White Goodman shows his work everytime he tells his opinion, then so be it. Been through this before so I'm not looking for another splatter.
Shaq, 4 rings. Kobe, 5 rings and potential to get another. That alone = more than Shaq's all but retired career.
Oh and Andrew...
You're a White Goodman for not respecting my opinion.
In all seriousness though, Bill Russell>MJ then yeah?
Oh I respect your opinion until such a time you continue to bring it up into your arguments, and say shower like "We can go back to the Kobe>Shaq thing again if you want? I'd rather not get out of my pink tutu though"
Bill Russell has nothing on Jordan. Thats like the stupidest comparison ever. 2 different eras to begin with.
You said Kobe was better career that he had 5 rings to Shaqs 4. What about Russell's 11 to MJ's 6?
You see why that doesn't make any sense?
Russell may be one of my top 5 ever Celtics but doesn't mean he gets that much respect. Don' forget his 5 NBA MVP awards.
But as I said, different eras.
I realise that, I'm not actually making Russell>MJ argument or whatever. I was just pointing out, since you made Kobe's 5 rings such an important factor in the comparison between him and SHaq, I thought I'd do one between Russell and MJ.
Career in the same era, works fine. Careers in different eras, not so much.
But you have to be the easiest person to goad into debates Andrew, because you don't let anything go. I clearly stated ina nother thread I was too drunk to make a pick yet you take me serious here? t's awesome. I love it. Thanks for the entertainment.
If I took you serious, I woulda shown stats ;) you should know that.
Not really, because you did show stats when you brought up Russell vs Jordan, serious or not. ;)
I did?
So is Robert Horry better then Kobe?
I concede :P
Big Shot Rob is sex on wheels. Clutch as a baby on its breastfeeding mothers chesticles.

u taking ur pick Andrew?
I'' just take Dwyane Wade.
And I shall take Sir Charles. Yes, that is Charles Barkley.
PG: Gary 'The Glove' Payton
SG:
SF: Scottie 'Pip' Pippen
PF: Charles 'Sir Charles' Barkley
C: Shaquille 'Shaq' O'Neil
BENCH: Wilt 'The Big Dipper' Chamberlain

Ok. D-Wade it is..
Shaggy beat me to Charles.
Love the fat jokes on the half time show ;)
Cant argue with his talent. Defensively was pretty beasty. Turnovers... my god. :D
Barkley was an absolute FREAK in Philly he use to tear games apart with his rebounding and running the floor... was like Lebron James in a fat mans body :P
One of the best players never to wina ring
Sir Charles was probably going to be my next pick (he took Phoenix to the NBA Finals and didn't have enough support against MJ, Pippen etc) but i've umm'd and ahh'd about whether to draft for need or take the best player available ...
with Barkley gone, with pick 28 I'll take ...
Jason Kidd for need as I have to have someone distribute the ball to Bill Russell, Karl Malone, Elgin Baylor and Jerry West ...
i also went more defensive if you know what i mean, cos defence wins championships.
being a long time Phoenix Suns fan is tough cos I doubt i'll see Phoenix win a NBA championship anytime soon with the lack of defence.
they're also unlikely to get a No1 draft pick to get the next Dwight Howard ... :(

There is no way that Shaq > Wilt
Scoring - Wilt
Rebouding - Wilt
MVP (Shaq 1, Wilt 4) - Wilt
Titles (Shaq 4, Wilt 2) - Shaq
Scoring Title (Shaq 2 - Wilt 7) - Wilt
Defensive First Team (Shaq 0, Wilt 2)
lol.
You're wrong.
I can show you why, but I'll be called a White Goodman if I do.

You gotta remember, Wilt was 7ft 1 1/2. In a era where the closest guy too him was Bill Russell, who was 6ft 9. Bill Russell dominated him. Wilt's averages were halved everytime the Wilt played against Russell. There is a reason why Wilt only had 2 rings. Rules were all different. No offensive 3 seconds etc etc. Fouls were called differently. Average scoring games were 130+. Rebouding is the same.
Here are some stats with Wilt vs Shaq.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=1&p1=onealsh01&y1=2006&p2=chambwi01&y2=1973
Both 14 seasons.
Notice how the PER, TS% and eFG% are higher. Look @ the TRB%, It's really really close. Given that more rebounds in Wilts era and he was fighting off 6ft 9 guys.
Look @ the playoffs. Shaq smashes him everywhere.
2 totatlly diferent Era's where Wilt is only guy over 6ft 9, rules are totally different. Clear winner here is SHaq.

Well Wilt played Volleyball as well ;)
David " THe Admiral" Robinson is my pick :)
I always knew Shaq was better than Wilt, Andrew, but I enjoyed our arguments. :P Generally drunk and bored so it gave me something to do haha :P
nice picks lads :) Maca's turn to do the double and send it back...
My picks are Clyde Drexler and Dennis Rodman
dirk nowitzki is my next pick
J959 cmon down :P
Ok, with pick 33 ... I'll take ...
Patrick Ewing as my back-up centre.
Tough one, still a lot of great players left (including lots of oldies) ...
Hard decision for me here. It's between 2 great outside shooters, the greatest 2 of all time.
But I am going to have to take the greatest despite being slightly better in PER and worse in WS% a fair bit.
So I take Ray 'Jesus Shuttlesworth' Allen for my 2 guard.
PG: Gary 'The Glove' Payton

USG% 32.0
WS% 16.1
Only going to improve.
Bring it.

Err I'll take
CP3.
Interesting. Now I need to think about what I have to do.
whats with everyone taking current players now?
All the elite oldies have gone. Time for current elites. CP3 has the potential to be the best PG of all time, but he is wasted in NOH and injuries.
haha there is still good oldies but everyones switching strategy :P

John 'Hondo' Havlicek
A Celtics legend. 8x NBA Champion, 1x Finals MVP, 13x NBA All-Star, 4x All-NBA First team and 7x All-NBA Second team. But the major reason I will take him is his defensive achievements. 5× NBA All-Defensive First Team and 3x NBA All-Defensive second team.
For the man who revolutionized the 6th man spot, he will now become mine. :>

oh yeah im totally gonna click that and read it ::)
Well maybe you should. Might learn not to rate a player by sorting everything in the achievements column from their wiki page.
But Kidd > Paul. But thats for careers thus far, where as given the same years int he league Paul > Kidd will be an understatement.

i was pointing out uve changed ur strategy...
so im guessing u rate Pis CHraul over Bob Cousy over Tiny Archibald over Walt Frazier???
All those above you had champion teams around them Marcz. Paul never has been is easily statistically better than them in his 6 seasons in the league.
You put Paul with Boston, Heat, Knicks, Magic or Lakers and I assure you that he would be winning rings almost every season.
I haven't changed strategy though. I'm picking the best players that I need for my bench.
And yes I would. You seriously underrate CP3's ability. He has GOAT potential and is easily 2nd/3rd best player in the league today. This is while he is stuck in NOH+injuries.
I put Kidd and CP in the same bracket.
CP's PER was .1 behind LBJ's first MVP year. His WS were through the roof. THen he got injured.
but then his stats wouldnt be so impressive so its a catch 22...
His scoring would take a hit but his assists would be through the roof.
They would be though. CP3 is a ball dominant PG. They would/need to build AROUND him. The other PG's were sidekicks to the centre peice. Paul IS the centre peice.
<3 Tyreke Evans. :D
Marcz>Andrew... Shaq is calling its time for ur protein shake :-*
oh wait i shouldve created another account for that huh 8)
I seriously don't get it.
You make a ridiculous claim. I laugh and show my work.
You insult me, and apparently, I'm the White Goodman.
Kidd over paul IMO. Kidd was dominant at his peak years.
will be easier to compare once paul's career is over though.

He is, and he does. It's quite common knowledge that he does this.
I think it's my turn?
Tight between a triplet of Pistons and a Knick here ...
With pick 40, I'll take ...
Chauncey Billups, bit out of left field probably but for overall team balance I need another clutch point guard as "back-up" to Kidd. ;)
potheads 24 hours is up. my picks.
My picks are Paul Pierce and Grant Hill.
bump and back to J or wait another 24?
go to J
Its awkward with the forum not working for everyone guys. I think we personally should be a little more lenient.
i'm happy to wait a bit - we had our public holiday yesterday and if it had been my turn i prob would've missed the 24hr clock ...
but happy to go with the consensus view ...
yea no worries. ill get him to make his pick tonight
yea sorry guys i forgot do i just pick 1 or 2
2
Tracy Mcgrady and Vince Carter
well played. Love them both, use2 be my faves t their peaks
Vince just never came into. He had so much potential and just never filled it.
Tracy on the other hand, started his peak and was one of the best players in that season. He got injured and never returned. Had the potential to be one of the all time greats and easy top 10 player ever. In terms of highest peak McGrady, is almost has high as you can get.
Just a little bit more on Tracy's peak.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&p1=mcgratr01&y1=2003&p2=jamesle01&y2=2009&p3=onealsh01&y3=2000&p4=jordami01&y4=1988&p5=bryanko01&y5=2006&p6=garneke01&y6=2004
Chucked in Kobe only because people love Kobe. Kobe isn't that good compared to others and pretty much Tracy was robbed of being in the hall of fame through injuries. He was only 23 that season. Loads of soft tissue injuries.
Yeah, i like the McGrady pick also pot - that was seriously my next pick. In terms of peak, he was da bomb.
ok, with pick 45 i need some offence so I'll take ...
Amar'e Stoudemire
i think i have enough defence within the team at the moment ...
SF: Elgin Baylor
PF: Karl Malone
C: Bill Russell
SG: Jerry West
PG: Jason Kidd
Bench: Patrick Ewing
Bench: Chauncey Billups
Bench: Amare Stoudemire
Shaggy, what happened to the current players NBA draft?? ; )
Not sure actually. It was there but disappeared 2 days ago I think.
ur pick Shaggy...
Seriously? Already? Damn. I'll do it in a second.
Kevin '411' McHale.
Part of the Celtics original big three of my time, McHale Bird and Parish, he was a dominant big man int he low post. He was a terrific defender and had some amazing moves to get to the ring.

what's the "411" in reference to, i don't think i've ever heard that nickname for McHale before ...
Jesus, How old are you?
Because whenever the press wanted information on the Celtics, they went to him for the '411'. Hence where his nickname came from.
Oh and Andrew, I'm only 25 so technically not 'my time' but I meant it in the aspect of my age. :P
Going to take Dikembe Mutumbo.

Miller is thought about in the 2nd tier after MJ, Bird, Magic etc but i'm not sold on his Hall of fame credentials that much - he was a good 3pt shooter and especially clutch with the game on the line and I think that has magnified his standing - i don't think he did much else apart from shoot 3s and you would rate Ray Allen over Reggie any day of the week ...

now there hasn't been a lot of quality or 'steals' coming from pick 52 in the NBA draft history that I quickly googled ...
all I could find was CJ Bruton taken at 52 in 1997 by the Grizzlies and draft day traded to the Trailblazers; Al Hairston by the Sonics in 1968; Rasual Butler taken by the Heat in 2002 - so no great shakes there ...
i am now going to change this with pick 52, i'll take ...
Luc Longley - just kidding ... I actually will take ...
X X even though he can be a bit over-rated (and at the same time under-rated) but I will take him because of his versatility and I need someone to defend MJ when we play Marcz (a tag in basketball??) ;)
well u could if it were ur pick... <---insert tongue smiley face

mine only came back today after going missing after the forum program upgrade - hopefully they stay! ??? ;)
I haven't met one person that has Reggie Miller in the 2nd teir after the greats.
Take your pick Andrew.
pau gasol.
Guy has been the best player on the last 2 Championship teams. Was robbed on the Finals MVP last season. Best offensive big man in the game and he is a borderline good defender too. All I can say.
Mitch Richmond
One of the purest shooters ever at his peak. Was an animal.

If yes, my pick at 52.
I will take Gilbert Arenas
Walt Frazier and Bob Pettit.

I'd got my pick waiting to finish my team off. Overall I am quite happy with my team, would be the #1 D team out of all of the teams I believe. :P

k, sorry - i try not to touch the putor on w/ends as far as possible. ;)
ok, with pick 57 i'll take ...
Blake Griffinyeah, i know this an all-time draft but if we're at pick 56 and Stojakovic is up (no offense intended Pot) - he was good at his peak and Pots probably took him for his 3pt shooting (a la Reggie Miller), so no probs - but i may as well take Grffin on the up and up, possible Hall of Famer (barring inj which he's already had) ...
Team "Underdogs" ... (cos my actual first pick was actually something like no13 or 14 ...) ;)
(just for Shaggy) ...
PG: Jason Kidd - led the Nets to the NBA Finals twice (i say again, that's "led the Nets to the NBA Finals")
SG: Jerry West - the original "Mr Clutch" or the NBA logo
C: Bill Russell - too many NBA titles to list and you build your team around D
PF: Karl Malone - the "Mailman"
SF: Elgin Baylor - him and Dr J, led the way for MJ, Kobe and LeBron
Bench: Patrick Ewing - "back-up" centre
Bench: Chauncey Billups - "back-up" PG
Bench: Ama're Stoudemire
Bench: Joe Dumars - someone's gotta defend Jordan and Dumars did it better than most
Bench: Blake Griffin - young buck
haha nicely put together J... so shaggy is up
My final pick is another Celtics Legend... Mr Basketball himself, The Houdini of the Hardwood.... Bob Cousy.
6× NBA champion (1957, 1959â€"1963)

Not really. You have no post defender.
Pretty sure McHale was a solid in the low post...
He's on the bench.
Shaq can also D in the Post. So can Charles. So I don't get what you are getting at.
They can't handle elite offensive bigs. Which is what this draft is full of.
Moved McHale to Starter.
So you are saying Shaq cant handle an offensive big man? With all his 350lbs, big men are a problemf or him?
AND You rave him being the best player since sliced bread? lol
Sigh.....
Shaq vs Kareem @ Kareem's end, Kareem will win. @ Shaq's end, Shaq will win. However, SHaq vs Duncan, now theres a match up.
It's simple really.
Also, McHale wasn't even a defensive big man either. You picked all offensive bigs.
Either way... Take your final pick.
Quoteerrrgghhh, ill just take.....geroge Mikan
Only Wilt has a good defensive side. It's difficult. But ahwell. Your team.
Didn't see that.
Don't Hate... Appreciate.
Lol, ok. Good luck with that.
Don't need luck. Gotz Mad Skillz!

So how do we want to determine the voting?
By a poll in the front bar or by mutual decision?
front bar poll and dont name the coaches of the teams just the team and team names and leave the poll up for a week or 2 ;)

Obviously going to win. But not for the right reasons.
well this was the criteria of the draft so that was my strategy...
dynasty draft different strategy...
so everyonen post your team and ill copy and paste them later. :)
make sure you put Marcz's team down the bottom so that people reading them from top to bottom get tired after the first 3 teams and don't look at his properly! ;) ;D
Yes, do that.
So they see mine and go that is a beast team on defense and we all know... defense wins rings. :>
Its not even though.
Also, say that too hgh
