Anybody got a clue on what kind of bird this could be?

Big beak and long legs. Barely moving so brought in it from outside as it's freezing. I touch it and it does nothing so it might be sick.
A black-brown one is my medical observation ;)
Very 'Pure Blonde ad' of you HP ;D
While we are on this topic, could anyone please see if they know what type of bird this is for me?

Thanks for your insight RB. Not sure what it is so asking. Is too big to be a sparrow so got me wondering.
Haha, well I feel sorry for it. We get Crows and Magpies around our house every now and again (we chuck out food for the birds that we don't eat). So he would be helpless against the bigger birds. Also, I almost stepped on it when I went out before :-[.
*Facepalm RB :P.
HP.
Answer 1: Leave it outside and leave so it can't see you. Come back in 10 Minutes. If it's still there, read Answer 2.
Answer 2: Call RSPCA
I did for 5 minutes. Can't fly so guessing a wing is injured.
Will call the RSPCA if it doesn't start moving soon (it's alive but very still). I've got an extra cage and put some food and water in it for it to eat/drink.
Will it eat it?
It's should be very very scared.
Poor bird :(
It is. Have other birds around so hopefully it starts getting a little more active.
Took a while for my new birds to eat when I first brought them in, so more than likely the same case here. Food and water is there if it decides to. But don't think it would. But alot safer inside than sitting in the middle of the backyard doing the exact same thing.
HP just one last thing.
You can't buy these birds at the shops. You can't make it a pet and it can be dangerous.
Not making it a pet ;). Just had an extra cage to keep it in before we let it go.
After a little closer inspection, wings look to be tied together (or something about it's wings). And it is in pain.
Called the RSPCA but they are closed for the night. Will call back tommorrow morning to see if they can take it in and see about it.
my analysis is that it is a bird :P
it looks like a sparrow ???
Looks like one but too big to be one.
Sorry HP I am not sure if it is not a sparrow :( I'm not great with birds.
It could be an abnormally large sparrow? It looks so sad I just want to hug it.
If it will not move I suggest it is either sick or injured, in which case there's not a lot you can do. The bird will probably not be very trusting seeing as it is defenceless ATM.
As you said the best thing is to call the RSPCA in the morning or if you're really cashed up and worried a vet could give you a little bit of info (There will be one on call, but it is not cheap)
Good luck HP, this is a great thing you're doing and I'm sure you have really helped the bird. Shall we name it? I feel kind of weird calling it 'the bird' D:
Looks like a Bernie to me :D

It is a labra-gull ;)
dont name it, have you seen monsters inc? ::)
That movie ends happily ::)
BERNIE FTW!
If you name it, you get attached to it :(.
It does look sad but it is still standing still. Took it out for a little and it started hopping. Not walking, but hopping ;D. Even when I tried to get it from outside it hopped twice before coming.
I would love to take it to a Vet to get it checked out but too dear :'(. Hard not to go when my birds are sick sometimes :'(. The Vet closest to me charges more for the appointment than it does to buy a bird ::).
While I was writing this, he/she is making noise :D. A good sign. Helped by my other bird making noise who only started chirping a week or two ago (recent pet I bought :D.
Birds don't walk, they hop, or the little ones do :P
I named my laptop, but I'm not attached, my life doesn't revolve around it *twitches*
BERNIE!
Ah OK, then all you can do is keep an eye on it and call the RSPCA in the morning.
My Budgies walk ;). And guess what? They probably walk more than they fly in a day :P.
Haha. That's what you call an addiction ;).
I'll keep with Bernie for now then ;).
Of course I'm addicted 0_o
Really? Well, OK then. My budgies never walked, one flew into a fan though D:
The other flew into the mirror repeatedly until it cracked. D:
You have Budgies?
Mine use to always fly into the window and mirror before. But now they actually know where they are going ::). 1 is tamed, 2 are half-tamed, 2 aren't tamed. But only 1 pecks (The very very old one who is also not tamed).
I used to, like I said one flew into a fan (I wasn't even there, I was away) the other was old and died.
Both were tamed. My favourite was my cockatiel who was very friendly, he was AWESOME :D
I'm pretty sure HP it's a Little Wattlebird, which is the largest of the three wattlebirds, and indeed the largest of Australia's honeyeaters. It has large yellow wattles hanging from the cheeks.
The Little Wattlebird is a medium to large honeyeater, but is the smallest of the wattlebirds. It is mostly dark grey-brown above, with faint white shafts on each of the feathers. The underparts are grey and are heavily streaked . The streaks are finer around the throat, becoming more blotched on the sides of the belly. In flight, there is a large rufous patch in the wings. The eye is blue-grey. Birds of Western Australia have a red eye and a silver patch on the side of the throat; these are sometimes regarded as a different species. The sexes are similar. Young Little Wattlebirds resemble the adults, but are duller, have less streaking and a have a browner eye.
Little Wattlebirds are found throughout south-eastern and south-western Australia and Tasmania.
Little Wattlebirds prefer the drier and often scrubby, habitats, such as banksia heaths, forests, woodlands and urban parks and gardens.
The House Sparrow as previously suggested has a whitish underbelly and no yellow wattle.
I don'thave a chick picture but here is an adult....
Dad said it looked young. It does have little white feather-like things stuck at the end of it's wings so probably right McRooster. Thanks for that :D.
Does have a yellow-ish underbelly but not completely covered there in yellow.

I don't keep my birds open if nobody is here. One of them loves flying onto my fan but it's always off :P. My parents won't let me buy a cockatiel :'(. Not with the much smaller budgies around :P.
My oldest one is going on maybe 11/12 years since I bought it as an adult :o. It did kill my first bird so lives in a cage alone but has a much younger (and hyper budgie) going to be with her most of the day (but not night as that's when she killed the other one :'().
Well my sister and mum were home.
And a fan was on with the birds loose? :o. Feel for you Alex :(.
How about you call the bird Q? Awesome Name 8) Maybe Qernie, a mixture of both.
What are gonna do at night? Leave it outside? What do your other birds think of Qernie?

Well Qernie isn't going too well :'(.
I never leave a defenseless animal alone at night. It couldn't fly and we have Cats who go under our house (apparently) so Qernie would be a sitting duck. He couldn't really get along with the other birds but as always, they are scared of each other :P. They didn't fight either but rarely made eye contact.
We brought in a cage for it to be in until tommorrow but he's taken a turn for the worse. Can't stand up anymore and lost considerable movement in his legs. He's now resting on his side on a cloth. Can't stay on his stomach :'(. I'm afraid he might not make it through the night but at least he wouldn't be some other animals pray.

:'( :'( :'( :'(
So sorry to hear that HP, I just can't stand it when animals die. I have lost 2 guinea pigs recently (last year in Winter) and it does hurt.
No :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Qernie :'(
What R&B, they died?!? :'( I didn't get the message :'(
Qernie has sadly passed on :'( :'(. He's gone stiff so a sign he's passed.
He'll be buried in the backyard tommorrow with the other birds that have passed away from us in the past decade.
I've watched 6 pet budgies pass on with the past 3 of them near me when they did go, 1 in my hands :'(. So very sad especially when you see them in pain and yet can't do anything.
Yeah Alex 2 of them did but my big boy is still going strong. (he's the one that talked to you once ;D)
So sorry to hear that HP, you were absolutely fantastic in saving it from a certain painful death and through all your hard work you added a few extra hours onto it's life and if anything it passed happily near company rather than being prey.
Yeah. Sad to see any animal go but nothing else we could do. Hopefully it went to a better place.
HP check your PMs.
That is no good HP :(
You did all you could, don't feel bad, I'm sure Qernie appreciated your help, at least now he isn't in pain and he can enjoy a wonderful afterlife :)
HP. You are a great man. Your parents are very lucky to have such a wonderful son. Great thing you did, Well done.
Qernie, you will be in FF's heart forever :'( ( :P )
Thanks guys :).
It's true :)
Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
And we've spoken our last word,
Peace be with you Qernie,
FanFooty's favourite bird.
Very sad to hear it HP :'(
*FYI - check out Simpson & Day - Field Guide to the Birds of Australia (we've got the 8th edition) for future references and help as you are most certainly an avid bird lover, kudos mate.
sad to here hp :'( but at least u did all u can which u can be proud about
Thanks again you guys. Indeed he did come into our hearts, even if it was just for an evening.
Did you come up with that poem yourself McRooster? It's quite good and peaceful.
Will keep an eye out for the book if I ever come into some money ;). Cheers.

It's one I have memorised due to the nature of what I'm involved with and is very close to me.
The author is actually unknown and I've adapted it to suit (you'll see many lines there I've recently PM'd you about regarding direction-I think it was the one about my cousin etc.)
There's actually no price on the sleeve or inside cover but is published by
Penguin Viking, maybe you could get it at the library.
I'll have to check it out next time I go to the local library (which I haven't been to in years).
It's a nice poem and you can claim it as your own if used often enough ;). You already know all the words which seems great with the work you do :D.
Well I'd assume he'd excell at his job so knowig all the words is key ;)
amazing stuff gentleman

The Little Wattlebird is on pg. 194 ;)
I'd never claim work that is not mine as my own HP, doesn't sit well with me. My hope with this one is that I don't get to say it very often :)
Again, Inspirational words McR. I hope you don't have to say it often either. Must be heartbreaking when you do :(.

My biggest struggle comes not in the moment but sometimes years later when I reflect,(usually a birthday or day of departure) then I try and focus on something good that I shared with that person and use it to pump up my own tyres.
I suppose that's why I'm a succesfull manager in a way, I have the focussed heart and strength to help others with their job or illness but when I remember what it's like to be sick or struggle myself I do have a quiet cry now and then to myself and family. :'(
I then suck it up and utter aloud that 'real men don't eat quiche'. :D
I've had those moments also :(.
The best way to deal with grief is thinking of the happy times spent together. That I've got to agree with. Even when people are ill, thinking of the good times is better than looking at the bad.
I remember when my uncle passed away just over 2 year ago now out of a heart attack from no-where, I was just in shock at the time, and then a week or so later it really kicked in that I would never see him again, that was the hardest time.
I just read this now and that is truly inspirational HP.
You saved that bird from a certain death and gave it an extra shot.
That's the sorta guy I wanna be.
R.I.P Qernie.
P.S HP did RSPCA ever respond to your call?
Never even got through. Only spotted him at 6pm which was an hour after their closing time :(. Never got through and was hoping he could make it through the night. Knew with about an hour to go he wouldn't make the night so put him in some cloth and laid him beside me so at least he'd be comfortable. Was going to call them at 9 the morning when they opened.
That's sad RB. There are always the 5 stages of grief to go through and it always help to have a loving family and friends around.
I'm lucky so far not to suffer a close relative (that I can remember) pass away.
well you did a great job, you gave the poor bugger a shot.
Yeah it's just the after effects of it, still 2 or 3 years on my dad and other uncle and my grandparents who were the closest to him aren't the same people and his wife, my auntie, is obviously in a lot of pain still.
:'( :'( :'(.
But no need to talk about that anymore.
I know how you feel R&B.
