Lets keep all Ashes chat and comments in here. Not relating to fantasy ones, but general talk.
GO HILFY!!!
HILFY!!
Strauss for a duck on 3rd ball of the day!!
YOU TASMANIAN LEGEND
Damn, I had Strauss in my fantasy team :(
I had Hllfy ;D
I love Hilfy, he is a ripper. So consistant as well.
I expected big things from Strauss, was a big surprise for him to go especially this early.
Fletch, I think nearly everyone would have so don't worry man. I have Hilfy and Strauss so I kind of flowered myself lol
I had Strauss, Hussey and Hilfenhaus in my team :P.
That was a great way to start off the match 8). Hopefully it'll continue.
Oh yeah I have Hussey as well, forgot he took the catch haha :P
I don't really like that call about it having to hit the stumps with the middle of the ball. In my opinion, if it is hitting, its out whether its a glance or not.
There is a bit of a margin or error in the technology though, so the benefit of the doubt has to go to the batsmen. Fair call
2/50. Good to get both Trott and Strauss out early.
I think this was a great start by the Aussies :D.
That's right Captain Watson, get those wickets :) a century would be nice also
I did have Trott :'(
I forgot to nominate a Captain :'(
Think I gave Watson the Captaincy.
Doherty's bowling ok so far... that dropped catch will haunt him though, should've taken it.
Johnson isn't doing enough though. Is it me, or does he simply not look as dangerous and productive as Watson, Siddle or Hilf?
I am doing a live audio call of the Ashes here:

I'd appreciate a bit of an audience. The player will be on the front page of FF too. ;D

It's like listening to the outtakes of Huey's Cooking Adventures :P
And we can't hear your color man
We needed that wicket... Good to see the back of him :D
Hilf, Watson, Siddle: 1 wicket each.
Johnson: 0
Doherty's just feeling it out right now.
Johnson is a cat .. he never performs against the poms. If he didn't take 5 wickets against Vic last week he would have been dropped. Bring Back Bollinger ;D
Siddle :D
Ah, Peter Siddle, you've earned your recall
He's a Victorian........ ;D
Yes, you can brag about your solitary Victorian. I'll take my 3 Tasmanians.
Well done Siddle

Watson is technically a Tasmanian .. or is he a Queenslander ??? wait .. i'm sure i seen him playing for NSW last week ??? ??? ???
Nah, Watson's a Queenslander. But he played for the Tassie Tigers for a bit when he couldn't get a game for Qld and that's when the selectors noticed him. He got into the national team, quit the Tigers (the traitor), moved back to Queensland. For some reason then decided to play for NSW.
I have Johnson captain as well
Nice info on Watson Ossie ... Reesbr - lets hope Mitch can score a few runs cos he sure don't look like taking many wickets :-\
Yeah I was hoping he would get a couple of wickets and make a fair few runs
watson was with Qld back when Stue Law was in charge. him and law didnt get along and something was annoying watson in that he couldnt get a game and he had a problem with law. he moved to Tassie and start to play soem games and started play national. Stue law left QLD and Watson went back to QLD. There he played more games for Australia. Then he started become a hit last season and NSW stepped up and offered him alot of money to be with them.

Lol why would NSW want to offer him a shower load of $$$ to only play about 3 games for them ???
This really has nothing to do with the Ashes guys lol Who cares where or who he plays for, why he does or how it happened. lol
But he runs funny on his approach. Its like... GLUG GLUG GLUG BOWL. lol
I know he looks unfit as he comes into bowl looks strange & un-co despite his bowling action :P
Good to have Strauss, Pieterson and Collingwood out they could of really done damage. Trott looked good as well actually :P
I can sense Doherty is going to slaughter Bell :P
he looks like he is a bit of a pretty boy. everyone else is having tea and he is probably in there fixing his hair up making sure it looks good lol
Collingwood is in good form, he is probably the best wicket for us to have taken cheap. KP got a few runs off first but still great he is out as well.
Cook is much needed as he will ton up comfortably in my opinion soon. Which is why he is my captain in fantasy :P
Agreed Shaggy ;)
finally Collingwood's form slump begins ;D
Listening to ABC grandstand .. Kerry O'Keefe is talking about different plastic things that can be "blown up" that have been confiscated from the crowd .. funny stuff :P

Sucks Hawka :(
My dad said I could have the day off to watch the first day :) But back tomorrow :(
SIDDLE!! THE VICTORIAN STRIKES! Cook sent back to the pavilion 8)
SIDDLE!!! :D
woooo got the danger man out .....at least i have 2moro off and only 1 week left WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SIDDLE STIKES AGIN
Prior is bowled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SIddle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MARRY ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PRIOR OUT FOR A GOLDEN!!!
I had him and Strauss in my team, i officially dont care though!
so glad now he [played over bollinger
I know 4 crucial wickets! Victoria!!!!!!
That actually really sucks lol I didn't pick Siddle in my fantasy lol :( And he took the wickets of 2 of mine lol One for a golden duck.... >.>
But its okay because he is a Victorian, not one of the Blues who suck selectors dick. :P
HATTRICK!!!!!!!!!!!
Wait, no, a challenge :'(
I LUVVVVVVVVVV UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
HAT-TRICK!!!! :o :o :D :D :D

ITS OUT!!!! there is a pom at my school that everyone was having a go at today, and he was bagging siddle, and look at this!!!
What makes that worse is... Siddle just Hat tricked on 3 of my flowering players now lol
And the next in is Swann who I have as well lol
:-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* Siddle ;D

yeah same, but i dont give a damn!!
Bollinger will just be sitting there going 'shower, I'm not going to play in the ashes.'
I DONT HAVE SIDDLE SO I DO GIVE A DAMN!!! Lol
But how good is it... Oh yeah!
I've got Siddle ;D
Neither do I, i have bollinger :P
If we get Bell out we will be in an awesome position with Swann the only danger left (and batting with other bowlers not serious IMHO) so this is our chance.
In my opinion, we need to bring Doherty back up to bowl a few more overs, or North.

Yeah they can't really do too much after these two...
Yeah Bell was attacking Doherty earlier but he looked like he was close to getting him out.
Does it really matter about our fantasy teams? We have a chance to beat the Poms!!!!!
Was out for about 2 hours before but came back in time to watch the last 2 wickets of Siddle's hattrick 8).
SIDDLE AGAIN WOOHOO
Another one to SIDDLE!!
YESSS but referring
Siddle and Doherty would destroy the tail order, regardless of Bell staying in or not.
6 for Siddle now. :D Stupid review system is crap.
WOOO maybe he can get 8
SWANNY!!!!!! :'(. He's out!!! But he's in my fantasy team :P.
But who cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Might be called a day early due to weather.
Looks like its raining there too. Hopefully doesnt get heavy, would like to finish this off today.
Nevermind, stops play. Not good.
So glad I went him over Hilf in my fantasy team :)
Covers are off we are playing :)
Stupid QLD.
I went for Hilfy instead of Siddle, but regretting it now. :P
Never doubt the Victorian! :P
I went for Bollinger rather than Siddle, and had Swann, Prior and Strauss and also I think I may have had Broad...
Quote from: 8-6 Suited on November 25, 2010, 06:16:03 PM

I did the same but don't really care. Knew my team would suck. Just happy we might be able to bowl the Poms out in a day.
Well I went Hilfy over Bollinger not expecting Siddle to be playing.
And that is exactly why I went Prior over Haddin... He is fkn useless.
Dropped catch Haddin >:(
It would seem Bell is going for the slog...
Might be a good idea if Ponting set a nice attacking field to try and get these 2 wickets now.
A spinner and Siddle with an attacking field would end this game quick.
Quote from: 8-6 Suited on November 25, 2010, 06:24:53 PM

Yeah, Siddle is God now.
Why the flower is Mitchell Johnson bowling for... He gives too many runs up and isn't really threatening.
FINALLY, Ponting put Doherty back in.
I love being right all the time.
Once again... I was right :P Doherty would clean the tail up relatively easily and he did. :P
But Siddle is Man of the Match at the moment. :P
All over ;D
Ahhh I'm loving this ;D ;D
Who isn't? (apart from the Poms)
At Stumps on Day One, Australia is sitting on 0/25 after 7 overs.
Katich has 15 runs off 19 balls whilst Watson has 9 off 20 something.
Katich looks really good at the moment, should make a 50 at least hopefully if he gets going early tomorrow.
hopefully the first partnership can last until 75 at minuim
Looking forward to watching us with the bat today, between the NFL and the Cricket, I'm getting a great sports fix all day long. :P
Seems weird barracking against Collingwood and Swann
haha ossie must be tough :P

Might be doing that against Swan in 2012 with GWS :P
LOL @ ossie :P it's great to see Collingwood and Swann finally getting flogged ;D Unfortunately I can't see them being beaten in season 2011 either :'(
That is what we said about Geelong this year Bazinga ;)
BOT.
I'm watching the Thanksgiving game on 1 Shaggy bit of a pushover ATM but we'll see how it ends up ;D
Can't wait to watch Katich he looked in fine form yesterday and looks very dangerous.
I'm just hoping Australia bat-out the day. I have my doubts. Reckon 360 is the minimal we need, batting last v Swann could prove difficult
if we keep this up teh poms are going to have a miserable summer
here we go first ball comeing up
Pretty good start to the day thought Katich was gone there :P Lucky it wasn't a direct hit :o
yep good start thought kato was out for all money
And that would have been Watson's fault
I don't think so. There was never a run
There was definitely a run! From the strikers end, Katich got half way up the pitch, turned around, ran back, and almost made it. There was a run there ;)
Cracking drive from Watson! :o That was perfect.
watson has been drving well great review by katich
Quote from: hawka26 on November 26, 2010, 01:18:35 PM
watson has been drving well great review by katich
And now he gets out :(.
That was a shower shot by Watson though in all honesty. It didn't really move much, just in effective stabbing defensive shot.
Katich going well as I predicted :)
at least they got to 75 which i said they needed to
Stupid stupid shot by Punter. In terrible form, should drop him for Hodge in my opinion. But apparently he gets his missus to put out for the selectors so he keeps his job and spot.
I could of sworn Clarke was gone there. Where the hell did the noise come from?
Perhaps it was the sound of hot-spot breaking lol?
In a bit of bother here. Clarke and Hussey are experienced players, a 100 run partnership is the minimum
This is what really irritates me about Michael Clarke. As good as he can be, as experienced as he is... 1 run from 27 balls is not good enough. He does it every flowering time.
True Shaggy we desperately need him to make runs and he is failing. Doesn't perform half as well under pressure which is why he is an ordinary captain -_-
Meanwhile Hussey is going very nicely :)
Hussey is an animal.
Tut tut Clarke.
Bet the selectors are glad they didn't drop HUssey ;)
And Clarke is shower... Get dropped you flower. You wouldn't be in the team, if Shags had the power.
I make rhymes with masked words. Go me!
Absolutely pathetic Clarkey
Same for North -_-
North fails? SHOCKING! ::)
North always fails. He should have been dropped when Hauritz was. Yet they constantly bring in these out of form rubbish players instead of the likes of Hodge... Makes no flowering sense.
Clarke's not fit i bet... North is gawn from the next test. no doubt. barring a 200 in the 2nd innings lol
Quote from: BOOMZ on November 26, 2010, 04:15:33 PM

+1 Hopefully the selectors see the light!!
Katich might have a little niggle as well actually...
North won't be dropped. Too quick a turnaround. The selectors NEVER do it
North was only brought in to take out KP, as his faggy bowling technique is a weakness of KP's.
They have Doherty to do that now so North is gone.
you will find if north fails he will be out for smith/ferguson/kwhaja.hodge seems a good pik rite now but he is retired from first class and hasnt played 1 for a yr
Smith FTW!
North has to go! >:(
Yes he does...
Hussey FTW!
Yeah Hussey building a nice innings up...
For god sake Hussey, tell Haddin not to go for the ones outside off stump...
Haddin can't contain himself ;D
But that was a great cut shot the other over by him 8)
Hussey goes BANG! 3 pull shots for 4 in the space of a couple of overs.
Haddin should only start going for it when we get a 20-30 run lead. I reckon we could make an 80 - 100 run lead as long as Hussey stays.
100 would be nice, and 100 for Hussey would be good too :)

im still first ;D
i need his points for another league.
Hawka, he retired from International in spite of the selectors not selecting him despite hitting multiple hundreds in shield which he is still doing in all forms of the game, yet they select people who aren't performing in any forms.
I :-* Hodge. Used to be my Fav Aussie Batsman behind Gilly.
Sad to see he couldn't get games despite being better than the majority of the batsman in the team now.
I agree, I don't see it happening but it should have been already. However the Selectors have always loved NSW players and are too loyal to those currently in the squad than the best team we could make for international.
Although I'd die for Hodgy, it goes against everything we've been trying to do.
Hussey is in form, North hasn't, and should go. Hodge is so old, and we need to inflict more youth into the squad, Ferguson isn't that old, and neither is the other 2 guys up for contention for No.6 (forgot them).
I'd really like to see Hughes come in though, the problem is Katich is in form and Watson is great at opening...
What we have been trying to do... is something we have YET to do. Hodge is 35, he is on par with others in the team. Punter is 36 I believe.
Punters Captain, and is easily the best batsmen in Australia, you can't argue with that.
Stats-wise, but you can't honestly say form wise that he is. Because form wise, Hodge is.
I wasn't saying to drop Punter for Hodge, I was merely pointing out that Hodge is younger than him and in better form.
Katich is clearly hampered by a hamstring strain, whilst Clarkes back affected his running between wickets and his form is terrible. There is 2 spots that need filling, and I'm sorry... But Ferguson is in shower form and Kwahaja failed to a weaker bowling attack than what is the preferred bowling line up for the English team.
I love Hodge, but who says he can keep up his form against World-Class bowlers, instead of the average, slow and boring bowlers at State-Level. If Katich comes out, The Selectors will put in Hughes no doubt. Drop Clarke? No, we want to win matches now and in the future.
I think Kwahaja should have another chance...
Clarke needs to rest. Not a permanant drop but he needs time to get his back right as he is in no shape to be playing top tier cricket.
Hughes in I don't mind, he has been doing well. But find me a better 2nd drop batsman right now than Hodge... I challenge you to do so.
As for keeping his form up, he plays/practises with world class bowlers in McKay and Siddle... Every week. He is highly experience and if this was FTP, a minimum of Spectatular experience.
Nuff said.
Would be better than spectacular he has played state forever (div 1.1)
There not the best of the best I'd say, and Siddle and McKay aren't always around...
I said minimum, but you are right... He is world class.

I dunno, just know he didn't take a wicket..
great great great moring of batting we are in total control maybe a lead of 150 in sight ?
Not sure, I think we should declare before the end of the day if we even make it there...
We need a 150-200 lead in my opinion because a declaration.
Yep, can't declare too early, as there is plenty of time to bowl them out with the pitch deteriorating.
Do you think we can make it there? Can't trust Haddin and Hussey looks like he's getting tired...
What a way for Haddin to bring up his ton with... Massive six. Massive.
Great partnership by the 2 here.
Wats the score plz...im out so dont no it
Aus lead by 120.
Hussey and Haddin still in.
Haddin 111
Hussey 143
5/380
I'm thinking 450 will be around the mark for a declaration.
woohoo were dominatin thx Q
Pleasure Hawka...
The Partnership is about 250 :)
i say 500
Nah no more than 450, we can't bat the day out that's all I'm saying, we gotta get declare soon...
500 is batting for a bit too long I think. We want to get them at the crease for an hour or 2 tonight, a 190 lead is good enough as if we get them out for 350... We are chasing 160 and can One Day bat that up.
Agree with you Shaggy.
Hussey about to make 150...
they need to bat a bit longer, maybe up the rr so they get a healthy lead.
Really have to go after them now, with 5 wickets in hand, and Johnson could be useful to have in for a quick cameo.

Need some more Siddle magic ;D
Can he have another birthday? :P
Centuries for Strauss and Cook, Cook still going and half century for Trott. When our strike bowler (Johnson) is bowling like a 9 year old and no one is having a birthday we can't take wickets. FFS.
johnson b-day 2moro ??? hilfys ??? wattos ??? doertys ??? north ???
nope :'( we are not outa this
It was such a frustrating day to watch >:(
Good stroke play though, especially in the first couple hours by Strauss predominantly.

Yeah Cook wasn't great early on but once you have been batting for 5 hours you start to see it pretty clearly ;)

NO! We do not need Krejza back! His failure infected us with Hauritz
He didn't do a lot wrong but he also has been shower since he was dropped lol
Hauritz is NOT australia's best spinner
And Krejza is worse than Hauritz >.>
Gt to agree with Shaggy on this one. Krejza is a mile of selection and rightly so :P
Current spin rankings based on form:
1. Doherty
2. O'Keefe (very close with Doherty)
3. Hauritz
Smith should replace North and bat a little as well ;)
O'Keefe's batting is a bonus, but is there room for another spinning AR in the team (assuming Smith would replace North)
Khawaja would replace North, Bollinger to replace Johnson.
Smith might replace Doherty, if they want to go with a 4 man pace attack (Watson, Hilf, Siddle, Bollinger).
bollinger for johnson, kwawja for north are good. doherty will stay
crop Clarke let him rest his back a bit more and bring in the HODGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
((i know retired from test and first class and not going to happen.... :'(...i reckon even if they approached him and asked him he'd tell them to shove it unless they could guarantee a good decent string of games which they won't))

damn straight i was just joking with BP that if Brad Hodge didn't stay loyal to Victoria and left and went to NSW like 10 year ago he probably would of played 100 tests by now
same with Cameron White if he played for NSW i bet he would of had more test opportunities by now

What about Peter George, he just took 9 wickets in Tassie??
nah he won't get picked he doesn't play for NSW....lol
I'd agree with that ;) Look what a Victorian did in the first innings....
damn straight i was just joking with BP that if Brad Hodge didn't stay loyal to Victoria and left and went to NSW like 10 year ago he probably would of played 100 tests by now
same with Cameron White if he played for NSW i bet he would of had more test opportunities by now
and i know people say his not suited to tests i just simply mean if u got NSW as your state club u seem to get chances either way
Yep, a good example of that are players like Dave Warner, plucked from obscurity!!
Quote from: cookie311993 on November 29, 2010, 03:22:15 PM
yeah george wont play i dont think. white play test instead of khawaja thats who i would have
i'd like to see White get a couple more chances at test level
and maybe get to have a bowl a bit they never bowl him in one dayers or 20/20 but if they let North bowl who is a part timer White could dot he exact same thing

exactly with Warner and he did burst on the scene but hasn't really done that much since
That was dreadful. Almost as bad as the Laxman ton years back in India. Sigh.
Finally, it is over. That was a freakin' nightmare.
It's not over yet... Ponting is in shower form, Clarkes injured & North just never performs...
Yeah...Not good.
Makes me want to insert a needle into my eye, then boil my fingers in oil, then light my hair on fire, then cut my arm and jump into shark infested waters. Would be much more pleasant than this, and less brutal.
I think I'd rather just shoot myself :P
fair enough...
Anything that will take the pain away :P
Ponting and Watson are gunna go spastic and get the remaining 284 runs no trouble :o .. that would be great pain relief !!

Yeah Watson is my (c) .. 100+ runs from shane would be nice lol . Sadly my team only has 10 contributors . Damn you Mitchell Johnson >:( never again !!
Mine has only got 9 ;)
Bollinger (what was I thinking!) and Johnson.
Yeah Watson is captain for me too.
dammmmmmmmmmmmm the way watto and punter are playin there goin for the draw they should of opened with haddin
Swann coming on they may go after him ;)
bowling atack is poor drop johnson drop doherty
bring in harris,bollinger
and smith or okeffe or hauritz
Harris just because he took 4 wickets in the Shield? ::)
Bollinger in for sure though :D
Same with Smith.
no alex not just that he took 9 wickets a few weeks ago he bowled great in his last test seris he played for australia and awesome in odis
ponting is looking good but watson is batting too much like micheal clarke :-\
Ponting about to get him 50. ;)
Goddammit, "lets just call it off randomly :P"
Now I have nothing to watch ::)

Johnson might be getting a bit nervous .. Bollinger has 2/22 off 16 overs against WA .
wooot! Bollinger!
Bahhhh. Need to play Smith as well due to the Adelaide pitch which will turn, plus offers better batting than Doherty.
DOUG-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed Smith should of played over North in test 1 IMHO.
they have done it be4 at adelaide a few yrs ago aginast india ...india were batting in the 3rd inngings with a huge lead with 20 overs left so they called it of
pfft bollinger getin 2 wickewts peter george got 9 wickets in the match for 90 runs in the match and harris got 6/60 in the match
BUT, bollinger has proved he is a good bowler at international level George struggled when playing for Aus A and Harris...Well I don't know much about him :P
harris is a gun :P
harris is a gun but Dougie has Rug power!!!!....lol
Harris & Bollinger ;D
North still there ::) ....
geroges home ground is adelaide and in form
and harris played 2 tests for australia in NZ this yr and got 9 wickets @ 23 and has a odi averge of 16 :o in 17 matches with 41 wickets and can bat a bit with 6 50s at first class lvl and a averge of 20
Should be this bowling attack.
Harris, Bollinger, Siddle with Doherty and Smith. Watson can always bowl some Mediums.
Hilfy a rest for the Melbourne test. Not dropped but he looked knackered come day 5.
WOO harris should play he is in form and hasnt done notin rong for australia at internatinaol lvl north is only in for his spin i reckon if he didnt bowl half decent he would of been dropped
exactly Hawka so they should drop Johnson and Hilfy (yes i know his loved but tell them to go sort themselves tain together if need be as in rocky get the Eye of the tiger back)
so have Siddle,Dougie,Harris,Watson and Smith
Daz, Watto doesntr count because he is an opening batsman primarily.
Watto used to be a middle order batsman but he transformed. Used to be more of a bowler and has opened the bowling attack for Australia in shorter forms of the game.
line up will be same from1-7 harris-doerty(even tho i wanted hauritz back)-siddle-hilfy
Quote from: 8-6 Suited on November 29, 2010, 08:11:35 PM

damn u beat me to it
true but he can bowl
fine bring in that Mitch starc aswell
i know his young and raw but so was Siddle when they brought him in Starc is 6'5 and it adds another dimension when being bowled by the taller blokes they seem to bang it in more since they drop from a greater height
need different player to complement each other not all the same type
not saying your suggestion all the same type i mean in this first test with no swing happening which is Hilfy's biggest weapon they all became rather the same need a couple of different weapons working together
plus as much as starc is raw needs to blood some goddamn youth which is why Smith should play aswell
Starc!!!!!!!!!!!
Starc is my man he will be a star if he gets a shot. He and Smith :)

then since i mentioned bringing in both of them i have your support for my lineup...lol ;)
yeah we need to play youths as when warne and co were playing we didnt blood and we all know what happened :(
No ::)
Then again, it is hard to play youngsters over Warne, McGrath, Lee...It is why every team has ups and downs, and what makes sport so great. he higher you climb the harder you fall (Unless you are a rich EPL club who just buy the good guys)
starc will b out for a fortnight more with injury should get in the 13man squad for sydney

Need to consider some other depth players and get the right mix of players need the bowlers to step up in the next test

i hope they make a double switch harris for johnson and doherty for big ruggy... i reckon we can get by with the spin of north clarke or katich
There's no point in playing 4 specialist fast bowlers when you have Watson in the side. You may as well play an extra batsmen if you're going to drop the spinner. Who needs 5 quality quicks?
Nobody ossie ;)
We should play Smith, pretty decent spinner (better than North) and been in good form with the bat :)

How does Johnson count as 'quality' ;)
Johnson did not bowl in Australia's net session today at Adelaide Oval.
Harris and Bollinger did, with Bollinger looking dangerous.
Michael Clarke still denies his back was an issue in the first test but seems to want to blame his poor match on the fact that he is suffering stress from the torment of Cruiseon's thread topic in the Front Bar.... ;)

Johnson gawwwwwwn... http://www.sportsnewsfirst.com.au/articles/2010/12/01/johnson-out-of-adelaide-test/
Can understand him being dissapointed but he shouldnt be like that... it doesnt really come as a surprise...

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/the-ashes/mitchell-johnson-on-the-block/story-fn67w6pa-1225964139070?from=cricket+australia_rss
Bollinger surely in for him... so is it Hilf or Harris?
Johnson really had to go. I can see them bringing him back for Perth
That was quite obvious to happen but I'm more interested in who will replace him just yet.
I would prefer to see Harris come in but the reports have been his knee was heavily strapped. Bollinger I'm not a big fan of but if he is over his injuries may be the better choice, unless its merely a precaution by Harris in which he is by far the best one for the job.
Has anyone heard any news about Katich's injury? I can't find anything regarding whether he's fit enuff to play in Adelaide.
No one to really replace him so he'll play... Clarke isn't fit too...
bollingers playing yeah?
and do u think cook can go back to back?
Not confirmed... Harris or Bollinger or both. Yeah probably.

I'm thinking that Dougie will get Cook out cheaply. Apparently the pitch is a bit green from all the rain in Adelaide this week.
and test 2 is only 3/4 hours away lets hope australia goes beta than we did at 2am :'(
Harris in for Hilfenhaus, Bollinger for Johnson.

But just wait and see...
Dammit man, I have fantasy trades on the line!
I already made mine. Only did one which was hilfy to Harris. His reverse swing will be lethal on an Adelaide wicket. Considered to go Broad to Bollinger but I don't think he has the potency. Hope I am wrong.
You have two trades per test. I've used both trades. Johnson to Bollinger, and Peterson to Trott for me
shaggy is on the money... not sure why he doesnt revel in his sources tho ;)
2 for none wtf :o
shower shower shower.... :o
3/2 :'(
.... Well.
....
....
..
.
phew 3/100 ish at lunch good rescue lads
Said this in front bar, but worth repeating...
Michael Clarke's scores in the last 7 tests:
28, 63, 47, 12, 3, 77, 14, 4, 14, 3, 9, 2... for an average of 23.
His last 6 innings at an average of 7.67
Surely he, and North if he fails, should be dropped?
If Hilfenhaus can be dropped on 1 bad test (wasn't even that bad), why can't Clarke and North?
I'd agree Ossie, But I'll give you 2 reasons.
1) Our selectors are batsmen based, won't change them, unless it gets drastic.
2) Clarke, more so than North, have been around for a while. Hilf hasn't... It wasn't right that he be dropped, but it probably before the first test came down to him and Siddle vying for that one spot. Siddle got lucky, and Hilf not so.
It's about time that Hilditch and co. looked at the batting line up instead of just changing the bowlers whenever there is a problem.
agreed never been a huge Clarke fan but there isnt really anyone kicking in the door maybe Ferguson but lets face it Pup is the acb's poster child and probably wont be dropped anytime soon... i do like Hilfy and i heard he had some sort of niggle more so than got dropped... Hilfy has that old school Terry Alderman shape, u dont need to be express when u can bowl a good length pitch on off and go away, i rate him alot higher than Siddle as Siddle just slants in and rarely goes away which limits lbw's and catches behind the wicket
No one kicking down the door? Khwaja, Ferguson, Hughes, Bailey...
But yeah, they've earmarked him as captain. He has been dropped before though

I would laugh so hard is Hussey and Haddin put on 300 odd :P

hawka will be happy with Harris' innings ::)
Haddin going for it ;)
um yer wel im not even tho i stil luv harris :-* but he will fite back with the ball 2moro
You'd hope so :-\
Will be cut at the umpires.....rightfully so!
getm dougie >:(
Haha Strauss left the ball when it was on off stump :P
Classic! Looks like one of the bottom order batsman in under 15's when you bring the quicks back on and they're scared of the ball :P Or always moving away from it :P
HARRIS FTW!
woo harris me man with the break thorugh now lets hope doerty can get kp out early
Love Harris, but I have Trott in my fantasy team... :< Actually I have both so... No problems lol
FFs Cook is killing Australia. KP likewise. Cook has made 400+ in 3 innings. Not freakin' good enough -_-
It's pretty hot here, and muggy. Low pressure feel about the weather, should see some thunderstorm activity in the next day or so - might be our only saviour.

alex he will want to face first
Watson will face the first ball. As if you'd make a guy that's injured face the first delivery ::)
he probaly wont even open
Probably not, he will bat way down the order possibly after Harris...
woo go harris
Drop Katich for Hughes, Drop North for Ferguson
Drop Clarke for Hodge .. I know he doesn't play sheffield shield .. but neither do any of the other Aussie batsmen ;D the bloke is a GUN

We deserve to lose.
England's last 2 innings are combined at 5/1068.
So we're averaging over 200 runs per wicket. Shameful.
Yeah the weather from Perth will take a while to get to Adelaide, hopefully the rain sets in around 2-3PM
or the wetaher from perth comes for 2moro
Yeah...
Good luck getting through today though Swann would of struggled to sleep while thinking about that pitch last night... :-\ And with the way we've been batting.
Punter for the ton today ;)
that would be awesome :D
Keep batting England!!!!!!!!
Keep going, bat for the rest of the day...
yes yes we want that i dont care if the make 900 aslong as its a draw
Yep, don't take wickets Australia, the less wickets you take the less likely they are to declare early :ninja
hahaha bill lawry are u serious he said KP could make a 280 no here ...woundt he go to the 300 if he was 280 ???
Doerthy finnaly gets his man
Not really if they needed to dec. they would, if he was like 290's they would let him go...

NOOOO i cant sya anythin bout dougie cos he cant bat and katcih gone for the seris
We all knew this was coming. Just mighty hard to accept it :'(
In: Hughes, Khawaja, Smith
Out: Katich, North, Doherty
3 pacemen, Watson, and part time spin of Smith and Clarke will have to be enough.
.... vomits.
IL announce mine wen the game over
the record 10th wicket parntership is 151 it will b broken 2day ;)
What about the pacemen also?
Harris bowled well actually. Are Siddle and Bollinger in danger? Johnson and Hilf could be could at the G!
What about Faulkner or Copeland as smokies? Or Cameron? Or Nannes?
words cant describe
It's all over :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
We're Showery
No love for Langer? :'(
australia needs to make drastic changes
IN:Johnson,Hauritz,Khawja,Hughes,Cameron,
OUT:Bollinger,Doerthy,North,Katich(all ommited besides katcih whos injured
Extened squad of 13 it will be and they should line up
1.Watson
2.Hughes(or coudl get hussey or haddin to open and bring in some 1 like d.hussey, ferguson
3.Ponting
4.Hussey
5.Clarke(due to no north and no katich will have to be prepared to bowl)
6.Khawja
7.Haddin
8.Johnson
9/Hauritz(avaerges 34 with the ball that is amazin for a spin bowler for austraia after the warne era he needs to come back there is notin rong with him
10.Harris
11.Siddle
12th man cameron
by bringin in johnson and haritz u strenghten the batting with johnson a centruy maker and hauritz has a averge of 25 with 2 half centuires
i didnt pick smith cos i dont think he should play in waca and in this test we need to win and not leak runs and smith probaly will

AND COS KATICH IS INJURED AND WE CAN MOVE WATTO TO 6 BRING BACK LANGER
[/b][/size]
If we bring back Hauritz we might as well give England the Ashes now.
I'd seriously prefer we forfeit than put up with him again
Hauritz isn't a spinner though ::) Clarke bowling won't work coz he'll flower his back again... Smith should be in.
Are u all serious hariutz averges 34 and it would be 32 if he didnt play those tests in india he can at very good beta than doerty he goes alrite at the waca and ir wasnt long ago he took 2 consictive 5 wicket hauls at scg and mcg
A 'spinner' who can't bowl in India is a dud.
cough cough cough boomz that is 1 of the funniest things warney worst place to bowl was india with a averge in the 40s so sayin that is ridacolus and murali stuggles ..but the indian spinners are good there
lol they reckon they should bring in lee and hodge
Nathan Hauritz is the worst player to EVER pull on a baggy green. And that includes John Watkins who couldn't even land the ball on the flowering pitch
cmon haurtiz can bat and is australia 3rd best spinner since 2000 according to stats
In fairness to Hauritz, Warne sucked in India for the most part also.
Since we can't bowl out the Poms anyway, we may as well play 11 batsmen...
I.e...
Hughes
Watson
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Khawaja
Ferguson
Haddin
Smith
McDonald
Butterworth
... With Watson, McDonald and Butterworth handling the pace-attack, and Smith and Clarke the spin attack.
You forgot White Ossie, he could assist with the spin ;)
brad hodge :-\ haha
ossie that team cant work we cant bowl england out yet your sayin our opeing bowlers are butterworth and watson with 1st change mcdonald and the only other players who can bowl are smith and clarke are u serious
Of course I'm not serious hawka26 lol :)
My tongue-in-cheek point was that if we can't get any wickets anyway, we may as well bat and play for draws :) Would Watson and McDonald really be a worse opening bowling combination atm with the way our quicks are bowling?
lol ossie we dont need draws we need 2 wins from 3 tests
Maybe we play Barry hall, he can take out all the English!!! How smart am I!
What a masterstroke! :o

Come on Aussie's! ::)
i Just heard somefin horrible of my dad
during the scheduled lunch break for the day it started raining and dint stop all day its the most rain thevye had in months >:( >:(
OMG I BLAME NORTH >:( >:(
buy warnie a pack of cigga's and a carton of beer and tell him he doesnt have to train and he can open the batting... better throw in a case of baked beans ;)
plus some poker chips ;)
So the call is for Hughes to come into the side for Katich.
Hope you guys like us being 1/Not Many every innings. ::)
wat every 1 got agianst huhes he came in to the aussie side with a bang last yr and just has a few technique probels

Have heard Marsh is a chance for the katich's spot...
ive changed my mind
i want smith in for north
khawja in for katich
johnson in for dougie
haritz in for doerty
and move haddin to open
but also with pacebowlers maybe we need to go outside the box
Copeland
swan
Cameron
Mckay
Bailey
Geeves
Haddin can't open and be wicketkeeper, imagine wicketkeeping all day and then going out to bat? Is different in One day cricket.
So, move Hussey to open, and I'd be more inclined to agree!
... and has anyone seen how well Faulkner is bowling for Tassie? Why does he get no attention?
Because he is not from NSW ::) Geez ossie ::)
Haddin can't open, Hussey could do it though, he started as a top order batsman...
Good point :)
Faulkner's 2010/11 Shield Season...
With the ball - 3 matches, 50.2 overs, 13 maidens, 163 runs, 14 wickets at the average of 11.64. Economy of 3.23, and the incredible strike rate of 21.5
With the bat he isn't bad either, nothing impressive this season with an average of 20, but great potential.
well haritz got a century and took a 5 wicket haul at the WACA last week
and there is a fund runnin on the web lol to raise funds to get warney back
lol yeah I saw that to Hawka they r actually getting a fair bit looked at it this morning and they had like 2000 just looked now & 3400... Won't happen though lol
Warnie Yes Please
Great work ossie i think faulkner should get a go just purely for a youth perspective. I don't see youth in Australia and i think a lot of players would be unhappy if they have to perform in every game for 2 years to 5 years just to get a look
wats the link boomz i only saw it on the tv
What about Cameron White coming in?
i rely wat him to and he could be captain in a yr or 2 but the selctors wont pik him he dosent bowl enof now but he was picked just to play as a bowler in india so bating at 8 rely wasnt a chance to show his battin potetnial

he will explode always, but will either get a lot of runs or not many at all.
If he does explode and make a lot of runs then that is a lot more than the current middle order (apart from Hussey) are doing. If he makes nothing the nothing has changed has it :)

nice valky 8)
He played for South Perth in the comp here in WA. Their deck was called "the road" cos it was hard and flat, so with Brad steaming in bowling 140+ it wasnt fun for me.
Hard and flat sounds like a batsmans pitch to me :P
I was a number 11 too. :P Always had someone to walk back with then.
I was always a bowler though. I took 7/1 once
In Under 11's my best friend took 10/0. That is right. He bowled them out for nothing 8)
Except they lost 2 runs for every wicket they lost instead of going out so didn't really mater :P
Quote from: Alex7089 on December 08, 2010, 11:06:37 PM

Yeh a road is a batsmans pitch because of the even/consistent bounce. But when you cant bat it just means the balls comes on quick and normally means stumps flying everywhere.

To be fair. I was more the "Doug Walters" of the team :P We had two tearaway fast bowlers who pounded them in and usually had them jumping around and such. Then after about 15 overs of that the captain threw the ball to me and I bowled about 50k an hour less. The batsmen were so relieved they normally spooned one straight up in the air.
B-B-Bloody Beauty. One for None ;D

Sigh. So Johnson or Hilf or somebody new?
Hopefully someone new :P
Donut for me as well ossie :( Oh well, I pretty much had one in my first test with Ponting making -11 :-\
alot of ppl wat cameron from u guessed it nsw
Shaun Marsh should be opening
cameron is a damn good bowler. what we need in the team. he caused poms some troubles playing for Aus A. he is from SA originally i think. moved to NSW cause he wanted to play for Aus. they dont like look of Shaun Marsh for Test as he hasnt proved himself in First class matches. they love him at one-day games though
dont worry harris has been cleared fit
Squad named and im not happy why did they pick beer over hariutz and smith will most likely play because there is no other batsmen and i reckon they will play 4 pace bowlers and smith and clarke to bowl the spinners over heres the squad
Squad: Shane Watson, Phillip Hughes, Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Brad Haddin (wk), Steven Smith, Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle, Michael Beer, Ben Hilfenhaus.
They picked Beer because Warnie has more power in Australia than Gillard. You heard it here first.
also ferguson made 131 today and was dimised at 245 and the annoucment was meant to be at 230 there were rumors there was gona b a last minute change but notin happend
NO BOLLINGER? >:(
QuoteHas only played five first-class matches. 16 wickets from nine innings, best bowling figures of 3-39.
cmon hariutz even krezja derserved the spinner spot more then him
Beer should not have been picked, Warnie like him though...
what about Dougie?
I don't think Dougie's fit. That's why they dropped him.....but then I think if fitness is the big thing why did they recall Johnson? :-\
Bollinger going is a surprise...
You know, Siddle hasn't bowled that well apart from Day 1
khawja batted nicely 2day stil not sure y he wasnt picked
well haurtiz sold all his aussie gear but u cant say thats stupid he is the countrys best spinner he averges 33 with the ball in test cricket the only reason he was dropped was the selectors have rely rely high expectaions like warne and macgill ,,the selelctors need to relize that haurie is the best dosent matter if he can hardly spin the bowl he is the best spinner we got

ANYONE NOT NAMED NATHAN HAURITZ!
cmon a actual spinner from australia who is stil playin cricket (not warney)
Nathan Hauritz has proven himself the best spinner in Australia, and should be playing instead of Beer.
I don't actually think Beer will play... think it will be:
Watson
Hughes
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Smith
Haddin
Johnson
Harris
Siddle
Hilfenhaus
12th - Beer
I agree. Hauritz should really be given the shot ahead of an unknown to the majority of us.
He had a little interview after a match saying he hasn't been contacted by selectors since being dropped from the side. Hasn't been told what he did wrong or what he should work on.
The problem is everyone including the selectors have too high hopes of spinners after Warne & even MacGill...
They'll never find players like them. They have to work with what is available.
They have to see that ::).

heard a whisper beer was in and that hilfy or sidds will be the unlucky drink carrier
That's contrary to what I heard this morning. I heard because of the green pitch, that it would be likely that Beer will miss and they will go with the four pacemen.

Sniped me Fletch, I heard the exact same thing.
TEST 3 starts today and because its at the waca a late start for alot of us..
ponting still unsure who will play the last 2 spots are between hilfy, siddle and beer and they could go woth 4 pace bowlers but i think that is stupid because we have watto and the last time australia played 4 pacers at the waca the pverate was slow and we got smashed cos it didnt favour the quicks as much as they thought but a good point of it is beer wont play
i reckon smith, johnson and hughes could b the x-factor of the end of this series
smith has to play. He will get quick runs with haddin, and can ACTUALLY SPIN THE BALL!
dont worry BB he is a certainty unless the aussies wana go with 4 pace bowlers abd a spinner makin johnson number 7 :P which wont happen

SMITH!!!
johnson could bat at 7 but the tail is shower as it is, i know they are there for bowling but at least you could bat like sids and huss v pakistan. Plz!
Despite his golden pair harris is quite handy with the bat and a suitabel number 9 however haurtiz would of been beta ::) dont no were beer bats let me check his stats
well he has hit 38 runs from 145 balls in 9 innings :/ very slow batter than if hilfy plays beer will be number 1o if sids plays beer will 11
Scratch that beer bats at 11 if he plays rememberer hilfys stats 8)

Hussey, Haddin and Watson are literally the only 3 players for Australia this series who have been passable.
Have to agree. Haddin has really stepped up with the bat when all others failed. Hussey is back into some form. And Watson is doing as much as he can as the all rounder in the team.
We were very lucky today Hussey and Haddin helped keep Australia on track for at least an acceptable score.
now thats cool, and here i was thinking that people were being responsible on this forum :P
yeah i did. A lot of people would get pissed if it didnt edit it.
make some flowering runs Johnson..
yes keep bowling Finn when he is injured!!

a good move for once :P
Good for my fantasy team if Siddle can use the new ball well.
need to do what england did to us to start with
2 wickets minum be4 stumps
Need about 5 seeing as their batsmen go deep and are actually decent but none is more realistic.
lol Shaggy, the only way you could be further off is if you said Haddin and Ponting were to open :P

Lol I'm ignoring the TM for now :P
it's not our fault the selectors and Australia are crap
fkn hell watson and haddin you knobs ::)
Indeed.
How about Harris and Johnson support Hilf's relatively tight bowling?
have you heard this story about y we are crap
"The latest cable release from Wikileaks confirms what most Australians already suspect.
THIS IS NOT THE REAL AUSTRALIAN CRICKET TEAM!!!
The real team was kidnapped by MI6 agents after the Cardiff test in the last ashes series. The players were then cloned and the clones inserted with a remote control capitulation device, the clones then released while the real team is being held at a top secret location somewhere in England. This is an outrage. We want our team back!"
Yeah boy!!!
Catch Huss :)
Back to the Johnson of old? Swung that one back nicely!
This better be out >:(
It might be another flowering wicket! Johnson you flowering legend!
JOHNOOOO!
Johnsooooooon ignore anything i said to u in the previous tests get more wickets ;D

This is just an amazing turnaround. I've been away for a couple of hours, then come back to this............ :D :D :D
It's hard to believe this is the same game...
The funny part was Tony Greig's reaction as soon as it hit him ;D
Whats the score? I was out for Lunch and it was 3-90ish
5-108 I think, maybe 5-118 :P
Mitch 8) His spell this morning.. 9-3-20-4
Australia 268; England 119/5
Nice. I'm happy with that. I'm also glad that MJ is getting some form back. He is a match winner when he is in form.
Just saw the odds on a draw, sitting at $10 so putting down a hundred :P
Haha. Better hope for a long second innings from both teams ;D.
Should do HP. As the pitch at the WACA hardens up a bit it will get easier to bat. You would expect at least 400 from both in the second innings ;)
Yeeeeeeee ;D ;D ;D
Still goes down as bowled P. Siddle ;D
Nice stuff Harris :D
Swann out, into the tail now...
Look at Phil Hughes standing next to Tremlett ;D
Hopefully can clean them up fairly quickly...
He needs to pitch one up now, and surprise him.
ONly 2 more to get now ;D
How about we bring Smith on for a bowl? lol the quickies are doing well.
This is fun watching the contest between Aus vs Anderson ;D

NOOO!! PONTING OUT FFS
Ricky Ponting you hypocrite. Should have walked.
Piss poor example
he is? im not watching tv atm so dont know, and cricinfo is stupid.
Gloved it. Didn't walk. England appealed. Out.
Yet it was a shorter ball that he tried to glance, clipped his glove on the way through, he wouldnt walk but England reviewed it.
Arrrggh Clarke out now, Hussey needs to dominate again ::)

W Armstrong (Aus) 10 Tests, 616 runs, average 56
A Border (Aus) 31, 1917, 43.57
G Boycott (Eng) 45, 3535, 47.77

C Lloyd (WI) 36, 2448, 36.93
S Tendulkar (Ind) 15, 1593, 79.65
Tendulkar is a freak
slightly off topic, a bit harsh on Hilfenhaus to not be considered in the best 30 for the World Cup.
ossie i love hilfy but he isnt in australias one day plans only test
regardless of the 3rd test result r punter or pup on the chopping block?
punter not just yet pup yes
khwaja has to b picked soon
Ponting has (slightly) more credits than Clarke atm. I agree, I'd like to see Khawaja and Ferguson, or even McDonald (though he keeps getting injured). D Hussey deserves a chance, but ship has probably sailed.
Hughes will probably get the 4th test to perform, but Marsh is a chance for Sydney if he fails that. Jacques also a forgotten man, he got a century in his last test!
i reckon they need to try white out for a game or 2

Khawaja should really be given a chance considering the dire state our Batting is in. If Haddin is scoring better than most of our team abtting middle order, I mean ::). Wouldn't mind Marsh either.
haddin to 6 today i reckon smith at 7 or maybe even johnson at 7 :-\

in all seriousness it shoud by hussey at 4 haddin at 5 clarke at 6
With South Africa having chased down 414 at the WACA and the deck being in better nick than back then I think with our bowling attack compared to then, we are going to need 450+.
Either way there will be a result.
If we are 450 in front and just over half way through the last session today, look for Punter to declare and unleash at them for 20 overs tonight.
this partnership is the key last to lunch and we will have a lead of 280+ one of these need a century

Watson is trying to spark a bit in Australia. Tried to score fast before but carries a risk. Although can bring confidence to himself and his batting partner by doing this.
Clarke and Ponting need to do a little more. They can bat, they need to show it in this test. Otherwise, we may need a batting overhaul.
hp clarke and punter wont b batting in this test :-\ but punter seems to enjoy boxing day
Hussey IMO is wasted at 5, he needs to bat ahead Of Clarke so that when the balls old Clarke can get set against spin, his speciality.

If the Aussies bat too long then England will bat for the draw. What do u think they'll think they can chase?
if we bat for the whole day we will ahve a lead of 480 +
so the draw it outa the question
Australia will bat all of today. Lead by 500 and then give themselves 2 days to bowl England out. Easy. :P

and at the start of the summer i called harris for a big 1 ;D
Will be Dougie for Hilfy I think. Hilfy doesnt look threatening at all.
no way hilfy got it to swing and was very econmical and the selectors thought that and so did punter
But that is what Harris and MJ do, get it to swing.. Siddle does a little too but Dougie is a seamer and we need someone to use the seem in Melbourne.

screw hautiz give beer a go, at least for the boxing day test and if he goes no good there then bring haurie in
hauritz is not our number 1 spinner
he made another century 2day ::) and is in great first class form
he is 10 times beta then beer
That's why we don't play either ::)

It is because the WACA is an extremely seam friendly pitch.

exactly i really have no idea why he played if they weren't going to bowl him would of been better off taking another batter
and i think going into the Melbourne test Hauritz would be better now to have more then Smith especially since he didn't bowl we dunno how he will go where as Hauritz we know he can do it

yeah i understand that part but then why pick him ahead of a better batter if he wasn't going to bowl much?
i'm sure going in they had plans to bowl him but knowing what the pitch is like they never would of had huge plans to bowl him meaning he didn't need to be there
But you don't want him debuting with an Ashes series tied 1-1. Good experience for him. Also he is actually a good bat. Khawaja etc. could of played but Smith fit the bill, he COULD bowl if he was required to.

true true
he was more of another option if needed
bring back ROY!!!!
actually sad to see that he won't be playing in the big bash and probably won't play in Australia again :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
id be more comfortable taking hauritz into the mcg and scg tests experience counts when the pressure is on... dont forget watto didnt roll his arm over either

agree totally Hawka ;)
dont get me wrong i dont see hauritz having a spot in the national team after this series we need to show some faith in the youth... but as far as right now 2 tests for all the marbles and we want to play a spinner id take hauritz over beer/smith for experience sake... i reckon stick with hughes as an opener he has done it well before on an international stage and he will come thru soon enough if he was told we r sticking with u for the rest of the series... i was meaning white/hussey for punter should he be no good... again id take white just on experience
I think Punter will come up fine, the MCG on boxing day is his roaming ground, he wouldn't miss it for the world 8)
Khawaja Has been called up as a cover for punter
I would like to see him get a go but like R&B said if Punter is ever going to snap this form slump Boxing Day test is the place :)
Not with a broken finger he wont. Batsmen dont do well with broken fingers. He needs to rest and come back in the 5th test in Sydney.
He should but he won't. Why they even put Khawaja on standby I'll never know
Its that selfish attitude that pissed me and most people I know off. He puts himself before the good of the national team.
Hughes out Marsh in
Good move that one but Hughes NEEDS to relearn his technique
aussie captains hate missing games :P
it happened to him a few years back..
cmon i played with a broken hand ricky! toughen up!

anderson in doubt
finn in doubt hell yeah
no it not the squads already been named...mayb that should happen for sydney tho
nah stick with hughes he will be fine he just needs time to get his swagger ;)
well if sydneys is the decding test we dont want some 1 stugglin thats eventualy gona find form
its his home deck and trust me he will come good, he needs to stop trying to play the way others want him too and just do what comes naturally to him no matter how unorthodox it looks

agreed marcz think young hughes will shut people up and score big on boxing day. we have2 keep the faith i think, not worth chopping and changing the team to much. I hope they keep the team the same.
i have faith in hughes i just want him not to fail but simon katich may b baK for sydney test

yer he his having a net session at the scg on boxing day i think or around that day to prove his fit
So, Beer in or Out?
And if in, Siddle or Hilf out? Hilf was better than Siddle in 3rd test, but Siddle is Victorian....
siddle made a great point in the media a few days back that smith was there number 1 spinner wen haurie was injured wen they played pakistan why cant he and clarke take the spinners overs there both capable

Smith is a spinner ::)
Clarke just can just suck it up and bowl 5-10 overs if he can't drop him for Hauritz who is seemingly more capable with the bat anyway :P

Except we played only 3 bowlers with him!
Just seems really overkill to have Johnson, Harris, Hilf, Siddle and Watson.
ossie but it lets watson focus on batting and he is in great form and he woul;d stil b in the team if he coundt bowl
Watson was in great form with the bat, as well as doing 10 overs or so an innings. Just think with batting line-up not doing all that great (Watson, Hussey aside) it seems strange to have an extra bowler and yet still manage to not have a spinner
This team should in my opinion have 3 front line fast bowlers and one spinner with Watson being the fifth bowler
clarke said in a press confernce that he has been bowling well in the nets
Clarke probably's thinking he is batting well also
Quote from: ossie85 on December 24, 2010, 08:34:06 PM

This. Clarke is a fool.
I think he still thinks he's engaged to Lara.
Where is Watson the captain???????
i dont think the lineup will change and while the the extra quick takes pressure of watto it also releases a bit of expectation off mitch who can struggle with confidence/pressure
IMO they should leave the team. If they cant bowl england out with johnson, hilfy, harris, sids, smith, watson, clarke then we have issues..
no change
HERE WE GO

not a good start - 3/37

Because being humilated on the biggest stage we have, the Boxing Day test might FINALLY convince the selectors to....I don't know....DO SOMETHING!
if that happens clarkes gone for sydney, hughes, smith to 8
bring in khwja/marsh and ferguson get some youth in to the team
If we lose this and they don't just try something different in Sydney i will literally flowering murder them.

+1 haddin is good enough to play as a specialist batsmen (compared to the rest of the order we have atm :P)
Yeah Haddin could bat at 4, then we could move Clark to 5 with Huss at 6 and I have no clue at 3 ???
I would say Hussey at 3 or 4 and Haddin straight after him. Clarke gets moved down until he gets back into form, in which he could go to 3 maybe?
Katich and Watson surely the openers. Maybe try Paine or Kawaja (have no clue on spelling) in the side also ::). C'mon the selectors, a dud batting series with Watson, Hussey and Haddin being the only decent ones.
no either paine or khawja at 3

Neither of those two plays for NSW. It'll be Bollinger....or failing that Starc or Hazlewood
Most likely Bollinger but would best be suited I think for McKay. He is bowling fantastic at the moment, but in the tour match against England he picked up a fair few wickets so would be a valuable bowler.

unless clarke can break his form slump, smith makes his first century, haddin gets aniother century ,jonhson makes at least 50 and siddle and hilfy combine for 50
25 more of thosee smithy
we need these to there at stumps only 1 hour 45 mins to go :-\
I don't think Clarke wants to be out there...
he wants watson and hughes to be we all do but he just gota face it that he is out there and has to bat rely well
Haha Clarke wants to go home, no, he wants to lose the Ashes so when he gets dropped from the NSW side for the Sydney test he can go play for the American cricket team :P
if we lose clarke drop, hughes drop
and bring in white i reckon bast him at 5 or 6 cos he is a great captain
Nooo don't drop Hughes! He is crap but he is young and would be an awesome aggressive opening batsman with a little confidence, experience and better shot selection (which will come with experience)
I would rather drop everyone over 30. Yes, I said it, maybe keep Hussey but other than that they can piss off Australian cricket needs to start again.

for the dead rubber in sydney we need to try something alot diffrent wat asbout this team

3.Khawja
4.Hussey
5.Ponting
6.White/Ferguson
7.Haddin
8.Smith
9.Johnson
10.Siddle
11.Beer
its a dead rubber so try a few things out u gota keep ponting cos who alese is gona captain
Highes stays in but if they feel the need to get rid of him bring in marsh
beer should play just to see how he goes
Ferguson over white, if he is not captain White has no place IMHO.
That looks good and a very handy batting lineup going all the way to 9 8)
Should Hauritz play over Beer :o
there is only 2 quicks so would need another in there... like george from SA he is in form... definitely support the youth moement ;)
I want Trent Copeland.

or starc or pattinson or faulkner
rely good that these to are battin great highest aussie partnership of the game
White has been bowling himself a bit more this summer, not getting the wickets, but he's made the right move in making himself more available as an AR.
He may not get a go in Sydney, but he should be considered down the track as Punter's replacement, not Clarke. He had a chance to prove himself yesterday, but couldn't...
The guys on the radio were saying the same thing about White yesterday Fletch.
He should already be captain of the T20 team ahead of Clarke. As the T20's have shown, Clarke doesn't have any tactical know how
well the team needs a least 1 person who can spin who bats in the top 6 like we have in previous yrs eg.north, clrake, symmo so we need 1 down the track cos smith should b at 7 or 8 for now
and yer cf heard that and agreed
hilfy make a 50 like u have be4 and if haddin gets a century my step dad gets some money in that vb promontion ;D

All over :(
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
time for rebuild time to get ready for revenge in 2013
get the 18-19 yr old tasmainian.. Bolt or something... 30 wickets in his first 5 matches..
yep lets lay the foundation for world domination >:(
i want them to name the squad soon they named the squad for this test few hours after it and theres only a few days between tests
We should lay the plans for the future.
However knowing the Australian Selectors we won't
Siddle and Haddin did pretty well at least ::).
We need to start dropping the guys out of form instead of giving them 1 more test the entire series ::). Hughes, Punter and Clarke just haven't been in form. Why are they still in there?
ponting has to stay until we find our nxt captain
Ponting and Hussey need that last test.. could be retiring..
but even though Ponting is as a good as a bat as he is.. (not now) he needs to go.. it's sad that he said a couple weeks ago with Warne he hasnt thought about retiring..
play them guys..
and play the guys that will be in the future test teams.. get them ready..
but it will be sad to see Ponting retire at the end of an Ashes series that they lost in Australial..
ponting should go down the order and put khawja stight in at 3
Quote from: hawka26 on December 29, 2010, 01:08:26 PM

ok.. keep ponting in there until the next captain..
Ponting to 4-5 not 6 thats Haddins spot..
may have to drop the captaincy and might have to give it to Clarke.
Put Kawarja in at 3
Hussey may retire.. Bring in White..
and may have to think Haddin may not go to England for the next ashes..
he will be 37..
hh we have a ready made replacemtn in paine i reckon and steve waugh reckons that paine good be a futre captain so have haddin and him in the team becos he is a great batter
and y not have 2 keepers in the team if there in the best 7 batters in the country NZ do it
Hawka is right I want Paine and Haddin in the team together, this way Paine could bat at 7 or 8 with Smith filling whatever position Paine didn't. Then we would have Usman Khawaja in at 3 with Hughes and Watto opening, 4 Hussey, 5 Haddin and Clarke in at 6 until he finds some form then he can bat at 5.
1) Watson
2) Marsh
3) Khawaja
4) Ponting (a)
5) Hussey
6) Clarke (b)
7) Haddin (c)
8) Smith (d)
9) Johnson
10) Siddle
11) Hilfenhaus
(a) I still think Ponting should be captain for a little while longer as I cant see anyone good enough to take over.
(b) If you can think of another batsman to replace Clarke then that needs to be done as he has done bugger all for 12 months - Marcus North maybe?
(c) Need to make a succession plan from Haddin to Paine. Haddin is 36/37 so he wont be in the game much longer so need to start getting some experience in to Paine
(d) Not sure if Smith is the right option here. The other option here is Cam White and make Clarke/North more accountable by making them bowl more.
(a) pick watson as captain
(b) Ferguson to replace Clarke
(c) Paine should play next test or in the one dayers as the keeper
(d) Smith is an okay option but i don't know who else to pick
in respone to cj
a-no way there are 2 beta captain options besides punter and clrake in the team
c-paine should play as a batter and have both in the team
Best job in the world for 15 years - Australian Selector .. now the worst job imaginable.
It's fair enough to go about saying that we need radical changes, but seriously the guys that we are considering replacing the current players with have hardly set the world on fire in state cricket.
The main reason we have under-performed is because England prepared much better than Australia did. 90% of our dismissals were balls that could've (or should've) been left. Our players are in a one day (or T20) mode where their techniques have adjusted to a mentality where they think that they need to play a shot at every ball. England left the ball well. We didn't .
pPonting has confirmed he is considering mvin to number 4

Clarke the Captain for the One Day series with White in the lineup!? Seriously? ::). WHite is a much better captain than Clarke and Clarke should learn how to be a better captain instead of just being handed it on a plate.
white should be 2020 captain and odi Vc (wen pontings playin)

how many balls has watson faced im not really paying attention, i dont really like watching them block/leave the ball 200 times ::)
Neither was I to be honest. He always looked like he was going to do the very shot he just did and go out. They played him to it constantly.
Watson also looks to be in poor shape.
yeah, both of them looked like they could get out any time while i was watching, will look forward to seeing kuwaja though :D

At least he's scored something now ;).
He didn't look Great though either Hawka. Looked pretty average. Made a couple nice shots off poor balls but as a National player you would expect poor balls to get punished.
Please, settle down, this is a test match, they are opening batsman who are trying to stick around THAT is why they are taking forever. Everybody is attacking the Australian top order for going out to quickly so they're trying to fix that.
yer there point isnt to git every ball for 4 they can b slow if they want

Exactly, if anything the fact that England scores faster helps us. It means they are making their totals faster so we can take a bit more time if we need to. Don't panic, first session in a test match...
KHAWAJA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome start to his international career!!!
Wow!
Why the flower didn't we drop Ponting for Khawaja sooner...
Shaggy he has faced 2 balls ::)
This is exciting but Ponting has over 12,000 test runs.
Faced more than Ponting generally does at the crease lately. :P Alex, I was being sarcastic mate. :P
i almost had a heart attack then, watson didnt move until khawaja was half way up the pitch and i thought watson was going to stay there and get him run out ::)

With the top edge for 4 over slips?
If so, it was a ripper shot and played well. Wasn't really there to do but did it extremely nicely.
hes slowed down a little bit now
Yeah Pyro that was a god shot. No risk it was way too short so he just guided it over slips. I reckon his late cute before was more risky :P

i have one question, IN WHAT UNIVERSE IS A THIN TOP EDGE A GOOD SHOT :P
When you play for them it is. It was quite clear he was guiding the ball over the top of the slips as he did it by a mile.
Quote from: 8-6 Suited on January 03, 2011, 02:36:48 PM

yes but if u misjudge the ball by 5 mm uve knicked 1 to the keeper
At that level, when the ball is that short with the bats they, even a little feather can get it over the keeper ;)
If you look for the negatives in every shot, then every shot has a risk. Just blocking a ball has risks. Pulls shots are very regularly skied for an easy catch from misjudging the ball.
But the positive from it is, he was precise and calculating in the shot he played and was rightly rewarded for it with a boundary.
well there off ::)
And back once again.
Pretty silly delay really but whatever.

Quote from: roo boys! on January 03, 2011, 03:26:19 PM
Watson out :(
terrible shot. Watto needs to learn how to defend on the back foot.
these 2 will bat out the day...
Well Mr. Clarke, let's see how you go.
Geez, Watson. Another solid start
Watson is a much better player when he is playing his shots. Every time he goes to defend, he looks in all sorts of bother and is generally his down fall.
sounds like a technique issue
His defense is always when the ball beats the bat, when he plays he looks much more comfortable.
Constantly scoring 40-60 would suggest a concentration issue too me, not a technique issue.
Unlike say Phil Hughes, who never seems to get going
In all fairness to Watson, there was a lot of reasons that his concentration was broken with Lunch then shortly following called off the ground then back in within 10 minutes of that. However his technique whilst defending in general not only his back foot defensive shots, is somewhat lacking the soft hands needed to get the ball down to the ground sooner if it takes an edge.
Clarke needs to go. Bad.

good innings annyoed he is out but that was a good knock and we have a good number 3 for the futre
Unlike there with the little bit of extra bounce. However a good innings by Khawaja.
Khawaja did better than our previous number 3 ;D
This is why I was against making Clarke captain. He should be dropped on form, but now he can't be otherwise the selectors look stupid.

Horrible decision to keep him in. He's out of form, let him find it in the Domestic league rather than let him hinder our chances even more.
he got dropped in 2005/06 for the same shots he was playin and the first game bak for nsw he scored a double century.........butttt we dont have test to august unless the stupid board agree to play bangladesh in april after the WC.we need to its good practice for the youngsters playin any test cricket and the pitch spin that much that we can afford to take beer, kreza, haruie and smith there and play 3 of them and i like bangladesh and enjoy watchin them
who is worse ponting for losing 3 ashes series in a row or clarke who fails miserably full stop.
Clarke because Ponting is actually a good player under pressure (most of the time :P) a good bloke & a good player.
Clarke is just a knob.
Ponting :b
grr u cant complain ponting for losing 3 series he has captained alomost the most tests and he has been has captained 4 series and lost al those players in 09 and 10//11
well had ponting had a say in selection and been smart he would have scouted the country for possible replacements and given the selectors a short-list of players he would like to see in the team
u cant rely scout we ur playin ::)
i meant in the time between the start of domestic season and the first test of the summer
Ponting didnt lose 3 ashes series in a row, he lost this one and the one before, thats 2...
He has lost 3 as captain overall.. and Clarke is a knob cricketer, but you have to give him time as captain, yeah his been vice but when your vice your ideas get put in and thrown out because the captain makes the decision..
i say Cic is worse for getting the Ponting stat wrong ;) im only joking..
Ponting has lost a few more series than 3 over-all though hasn't he?
sorry hill hero
Ricky Ponting remains the most successful Australian captain of all time, with 48 victories in 77 Tests since 2004 - 31 December 2010

Yep announced it this morning.
Oh and this test match is really powering me off >:(
0_o Interesting news.
Collingwood was one of my Favourites :'(.
Johnson Strikes with Bresnan's wicket. Clarke finally does something with a catch.
20 off that over from Johnson -.-
flowering hughes
WTH!!!!!!! Didn't he hear the call?!?!?!
Watson was actually doing something at the crease. And there he goes thanks to Hughes ::).
WTF is Hughes smoking? Watson bloody jogged the second...
It was an easy second run. EASY.
Extremely easy. I flowering hate Hughes -.-
Agree or Disagree? The Ashes XI made up from the Players performances this series....
Cook
Strauss (c)
Watson
Trott
Hussey
Bell
Prior
Tremlett
Harris
Anderson
Swan
12th - Pietersen/Haddin
Ok, the two best openers have been Cook and Watson this series. But Strauss has also been very good. With the exception of 1 incredible innings, I don't think Pietersen's been all that great, so I've put Strauss at 3, Trott at 4, Hussey at 5, Bell at 6.
Prior's recent form has edged out Haddin, and I think Prior is better with the gloves. Harsh on Haddin
Bowling attack? Anderson and Swan are locks. Tremlett edges out Finn, and Harris was the best of the Australians.
12th I'll give as a tie between Pietersen and Haddin
One of the first things I ever learnt was. Waiting... Yes... No. Hughes did none of the above.
Harris over Siddle? Harris didn't do that much mate.
Neither did Siddle. Performed on 2 days other than that...
I agree with it ossie but you might as well just put the English team up with Huss...Maybe Watto over Collingwood as well...
Lets just hope Khawaja can stick around for a bit now.
Would be Harsh on Haddin who's been pretty solid with the bat this series. But Prior also been solid so it's a hard choice.
Cook has got to be a shoe in.
No youa re right Alex, Siddle didn't do that much but has been by far the best bowler. Looked the most dangerous and took the most wickets for us to top it off. :x
But in all fairness you can't really include an Australian bowler as we haven't done much at all.
Siddle bowled well twice in the series and poor all the other times. Harris bowled well everytime.
Harris played 2 games?
Hughes out ::). 13 runs only ::). We need Katich back in :(.
Bresnan has only played 2 games but he's bowled better than both Siddle and Harris.
Personally, if you forget about keeping, Haddin is the only Aussie apart from Huss to score a ton. I would put Haddin in before Watson purely for this reason.
Watson rarely takes advantage of a good start, getting out in the 30's and 40's way too often.
My Ashes 10/11 Side
Strauss (c)
Cook
Trott
Hussey
Bell
Prior
Haddin

Bresnan

Many will disagree, but this is just my own opinion.

2.Cook
3.Trott
4.Hussey
5.Bell
6.Haddin
7.Prioir
8.Swann
9.Anderson
10.Siddle
11.Tremlett
2 keepers Hawka??
baz did it as well they both have performed well with bat and at keeping

Harris played 2 games?
He played 3.
But I'm willing to except Bresnan in over Harris, not Siddle though.
Surely can only pick 1 keeper! Prior scored more runs in the series (unless Haddin does well in 2nd innings), and Prior has been the better keeper IMO
Watson's value is huge, he surely has to be in
IMO Watson's spot is the only one that is safe

finally some vics in the team.. Paine i dont think should be vice, but i am happy with the team.. Finch for opener!!
Hodge should be in it..
Still Hodge can't make the team... Good point Hilly!! >:(
Hodge is probably te best T20 player in the big bash that is australian.. yet White, Finch and A few others get in before him.. what did he do wrong??
Can't question White Hilly. On his day, no team stands a chance.
