Title: My ashes teams
Post by: Hawka on November 06, 2010, 08:33:37 PM
With the ashes fast approaching and the Aussies struggling i have thought of a few test teams
The no risk team AKA:selectors keeping players on rep not form
1.Watson
2.Katich
3.Ponting
4.Hussey
5.Clarke
6.North
7.Haddin
8.Johnson
9.Haurtiz
10.Hilfenhaus
11.Bollinger

This will most likely be the team we will see in the first test and i dont like it 4,6 and 9 are shaky

Minimal risk team
1.Watson
2.Katich
3.Ponting
4.Hussey
5.Clarke
6.Khawja/Ferguson
7.Haddin
8.Smith
9.Johnson
10.Hilfenhaus
11.Bollinger

Taking out north and bringin in a non allrounder isnt great and this will mean clarke and katich must bowl more

Blooding the youngsters team
1.Watson
2.Katich
3.Ponting
4.Clarke
5.Khawja
6.Ferguson
7.Paine
8.Smith
9.Johnson
10.Hilfenhaus
11.George

Very risky team but i could of made it more younger by bringin in the likes of hughes,Bailey,Okeffe

Which brings me to my final team not australias test team but the Australia A squad for the game agianst england ..this lot of players should all be next in line and i have kept it to youngsters

1.Hughes
2.Klinger
3.Khawja
4.Ferguson
5.Bailey
6.Paine
7.Smith
8.O'Keefe
9.Hastings
10.Starc
11.George

Phew there u go thoughts ??

I agree that the first team you said is the likely team!

Mine would be:

1. Watson
2. Katich
3. Ponting
4. Khwaja
5. Clarke
6. Ferguson
7. Paine
8. Johnson
9. Doherty
10. Hilfenhaus
11. Bollinger/Siddle

I wouldn't play Doherty.
He is already 27 and he only just made his ODI debut.

In saying that Hauritz is not exactly good either.
I really want Stuart Clark in the team. I know he won't be but he has a nice upright action should get a fair bit of LBW and take a lot of late wickets, clean out the tail enders which Australia has struggled to do :-\

I agree I like Clark... Won't get a go though..

Boys, Hussey isn't going.

Ferguson comes in for North, and the bowlers will be:

Johnson
Bollinger
Hauritz ---> After his first few games, which he'll do badly in, in comes Doherty
Hilfenhaus/Siddle
Title: Re: My ashes teams
Post by: ossie85 on November 07, 2010, 02:59:58 PM

Hilfenhaus is miles ahead of Bollinger and Siddle atm (also ahead of Johnson). Bollinger and Siddle will play off for third spot.

Nathan Hauritz is 29, and only really started playing for Australia 2 years ago full time. Doherty's form - especially at the MCG - puts him far and away the most inform spinner in the country. Unless you have a Warne-Murali-Kumble-Vettori etc, if you're stuck with a bunch of second tier spinners, you should play the one that is in form. This is Doherty.

First, Ossie, and non-Australian could come onto this forum and tell your from Tassie  ;D

Hilfenhaus is good, but Johnson is the fast spear-head of the Aussie attack, he's the leader, they won't drop him. Bollinger, yeh not in amazing form but he's young, they'll want to play him.

Siddle, I reckon he's got the spot over Hilfenhaus atm, but if Siddle has 1 or 2 poor games he'll get dropped.

Although I love Doherty, he played 1 ODI  :P

Doherty has been in good domestic form though & there is no way Siddle has the spot over Hilfenhaus...

Why so BOOMZ?
Title: Re: My ashes teams

Because Siddle has done nothing to warrant a place over Hilfenhaus & Hilfenhaus has been one of our only good bowlers of late...

And Hilfenhaus has been impressive for aus... Big difference. He warrants a spot but not ahead of Hilfenhaus.

Update (Posted when Aus bowl Sri Lanka all-out)

Looks like the last Pace spot has more contenders, with Mckay another big contender, and maybe Starcy...

Starc won't get it but its good to see him getting games...

McKay should have a serious chance at the spot I think, such a consistent line and length bowler.

That is just BS why the hell would u rather see someone have 1 too many chances and lose us the ashes because we didn't make the changes sooner?! The selectors need a massive wake up call.

Title: Re: My ashes teams

He's gone from being one of the best batsmen to only scoring 2 tons in the last 18 months & did nothing against India & Pakistan. Against SA the other day he got out for a duck & 3 in the 2nd innings... The only thing he has done recently was get 70 odd in the one dayers which may save him but other than that he has done nothing. What is right about his form Q?!

I'm not an idiot Q. ::)

yeah otherwise we'd drop them left right and centre. Which one would u rather drop: north or hussey?

As hawka said Khawaja or Ferguson should come in & move Clarke up to 4. Obviously he hasn't been performing seeing as I've asked 3 or 4 times without an answer... ::)

North first for sure but Hussey isn't far behind.

Agreed I'm a big fan of Ferguson he deserves a shot... Maybe I am being a bit hasty in saying Hussey should go but if he doesn't perform in the 1st test then he really should go... But I'd love him to prove me wrong :D

give khawja.ferguson maybe bailey, hughes and they can bat like that after 1  yr or 2 in the test scene and dont forget smithy
Title: Re: My ashes teams

For who! He'll perform anyway, and plus, his leadership and fielding is also very good.
Title: Re: My ashes teams

leave hussey for 1 or 2 tests and if he dosent perform get rid ofhim and bring smith, khawja or ferguson in for north
Title: Re: My ashes teams
Post by: Boomz on November 09, 2010, 08:34:23 PM
Whichever one of Ferguson & Khawaja don't come in for North... I hope he does because when he's in form he's a machine.
Title: Re: My ashes teams
Post by: Alex7089 on November 09, 2010, 08:48:27 PM
You can't drop Hussey ???
Don't forget his fielding also lays a huge part. Often fields in slips or gully and you can't just bring any old bloke in to that position. Remember when Clarke did that for Ponting when he was injured dropped Sehwag  I think on like 11 and he went on to make about 140.

Hussey is a class batsman, his experience and leadership will be very valuable. I'm all for giving the young guys a chance over him, but not in the Ashes, stakes are to high.
Title: Re: My ashes teams
Post by: roo boys! on November 09, 2010, 09:31:58 PM
Good point, we need to get the most out of Hussey that we can, being 35 this year. I think he still has a while of making runs left in him, and could be a big factor in a close game during the Ashes.
Title: Re: My ashes teams
Post by: Alex7089 on November 09, 2010, 09:33:41 PM
Plus his cool head and technique should help prevent middle order collapses most of the time, he will stick around.
Which is basically the job of 3/4. Stick around and prevent the collapse :)

Hussey is a GUN!

My team would be:

1. Watson
2. Katich
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. Hussey
6. Ferguson/Khawaja
7. Paine
8. Johnson
9. Hauritz
10. Siddle
11. Hilfenhaus
Title: Re: My ashes teams

I wouldn't drop Haddin. If Paine gets a game he should just be batting.

Haddins done nothing to be dropped but Paines done nothing wrong so I'd say they will go with experience in Haddin...

Krejza for Hauritz every day and twice on Sunday's Hauritz is a defensive bowler who tries to limit scoring Krejza looks likely to take wickets with most of his deliveries

Jason Krejza :o
He is no where near good enough to play for us in a TEST :o
IMHO it has to be Smith. Good with a bat and going to be an awesome bowler one day.
