Title: Rd 1 Thursday 22nd March - Richmond v Carlton - MCG - 7:25pm AEDT
Post by: Ringo on March 21, 2018, 07:04:11 PM
Traditional Starting fixture for Rd 1.

Hard to see the Blues getting over the Tigers unless the Tigers have the premiership let down which was not obvious in JLT.

Tigers by plenty for me.

Tiges by 40.

Need a big VC game from Dusty and a good game from Cripps after him being in and out of my side all pre season. I have finally landed on him staying in the side so don't let me down son!

Why the flog I left old man Simpson out I don't know..
Ahh hindsight but seriously who else was gonna step up with Doch gone?
I really over thought that one when it's quite simple really. No Doch = Simpson kills it.

Tossing up Ablett vs Cripps and cash to replace Danger in SC. Went Ablett didnt' I  :-[

Allows me however to make 1/2 quick changes and bring Danger back in and loophole Garlett if he can get close to a ton.

We will see if that bite me. Cripps 72 SC in the first half - 16 contested disposals.

SC - Dusty 85 (VC) and Garlett with the E on mid bench 51

AF - Dusty 67, Kreuz 48

DT - Dusty 67 (VC). Garlett E on bench 49, Byrne 15 hmm.

What’s the point of these 50m penalties? I mean really,  ::)does a player drifting through in the background 10m away really affect anything?

The rule has been like that for 3 years. If you're still getting pinged you deserve it for being stupid. The whole reason is because players drift through the corridor and the AFL wants more open play.

Martin, Cripps, Curnow, Simpson all very impressive tonight. Thought after being talked up a bit over the last few weeks that Weitering was extremely poor.

Good fighting win by the Tiges but lots to like about the Blues. They look capable of kicking a winning score this year and plenty of good young talent coming through.

Agreed. Defensively I thought he was alright (still needs to improve in the air) but offensively he felt lost. I think he got the green light to run, carry and take the game on but got himself into trouble. He needs to find a balance because he has the ability to break away and punish teams with his run and carry. It probably doesn't help that Richmond were putting work into him off the ball and he was subsequently running into the wrong spots or was looking for the cheap ones instead. He'll be much better next week, pressure is on though with Williamson and Cuningham also after the spot. I don't think he was worse than Mullett who was the other guy playing that role.

Yep I was watching him closely as well. Very frustrating watching the spots he would run into offensively

A bit of it was frustration. I think he just wanted to get the ball and go and Richmond were making sure to either hold up the ball carrier when he was running by or keep a man close to him when we were looking for the outlets. GC should be a different story at Etihad. I see him bouncing back and having a nice game as long as they don't bring Williamson straight back in at his expense. I didn't think Mullett provided much so they might both play that game and the worse performer is out. Bolts likes to give guys a consistent run at it though so he should hopefully be safe.

I was impressed with the team though, they fought and had a lead in the last. We were just gassed having been down 2 rotations for most of the third, warm night at the G and round 1 is traditionally a game guys struggle to run it out. Curnow is a superstar. I knew I liked those number 30's.

Or you know, just don't drift through an area that they have been hot on all game. It's not like they had called 5 prior to that point.
