Gday ladies and gentlemen, back for another year of getting grey hairs and stress levels hitting 100... first draft of my team... rate and hate as usual.
Backline:
Laird, Hibberd, Burton, Birchall, O’Shea, Doedee (Buckley, Richards)
Midfield:
Dangerfield, Ablett, Kelly, Fyfe, Bontempelli, Armitage, Davies-Uniacke, T. Kelly (Higgins, Barry, Holman)
Rucks:
Grundy, Gawn (Cameron)
Forwards:
Heeney, Dahlhaus, Walters, Christensen, Ahern, Keefe (Ryan, Giles-Langdon)
BANK: 5.7k
On cusp of selection: Mitchell, JPK, Johaniesen, Angus Bradyshaw, Lobb (pending DPP adjustment), Billings, Dumont.
Thoughts?
Defence is good with a nice pod in Burton who should at least keep his average and if not improve it.
First 5 midfielders are good selections, Ablett is a worry with injuries but when he plays he should score 110+ comfortably. Armitage may not even be in there best 22 so be careful with him (O'meara/Griffin) could be better selections.
Grundy is a concern with the Cox factor but in saying that is probably the best up and coming ruckman in the comp so I can't fault that pick and he is definitely a better selection that Nic Nat.
Similar to defence, I like the forward line with a nice pod selection in Walters.
--------------------------
Johanisesen and Dumont are the only two I wouldn't consider out of the guys you have mentioned.
Ablett to Mitchell
Birchall to Brayshaw
Dahlhaus to Billings
JPK/Bont is pretty even in my eyes as I rate both highly.
I think Grundy,Bont,JPK,Walters and even GAJ (gutsy pick but could pay off big) are great POD picks.
Not sold on Burton especially with Birchall as well at D3+4
Agree with Billings over Dahl but that would give u 3 prem fwds with R 14 bye which is what makes Walters 50/50 for my team too.(That and Ross Lyon)
I like the team mate,
I like how you're taking a punt with Burton. I dont see how he goes backwards in any way.
I think the Cox effect on Grundy is over rated. Moore will play backline this year so I feel Cox will play majority forward rather than share the ruck role. Grundy has a huge tank, why waste it.
Only aspect of your team that I don't rate is Armo. I'd downgrade to a Dow/Brayshaw/Brodie and utilise the $$
;D

Yeah I agree with arma, really only had him in there as a high price M6 so I can playa round with.
I feel burton will go 95+ playing a fair amount of midfield too. With a lot of defenders back and a lack of skilled mids he will take the pi55
Draft 2:
Backline: Laird, Hibberd, Sicily, Bonner, coffield, finlayson ( doedee, Morgan)
Mids: Dangerfield, Kelly, Fyfe, Bontompelli, JP Kennedy, armitage, Dow, LDU ( Kelly, Barry, Holman)
Rucks: Jacobs, Gawn ( Cameron)
Forwards: Franklin, Dahlhaus, petracca, Christensen, fritsch, Ryan (Ahern, venables)
Bank: 176.5k
Thoughts.
Think that Armitage to Coniglio might be a good move with that extra cash you have.
like the team though good job.

Thoughts on using cash on armitage to coniglio
Petracca out, Sicily > forward line,
Johaniesen in defense.
Or better off doing,
armitage to coniglio and that’s it.
prefer Petracca over Sicily.
Thoughts on Bonner ?

Thoughts on Bonner ?

Hopefully last team before round one. Just about happy now.
Defense: laird, hibberd, tuohy, coffield, naughton, finlayson (doedee, Morgan)
Midfield: danger, Martin, fyfe, bont, beams, Parker, brayshaw, banfield (Brodie, Holman, Kelly)
Rucks: Gawn, nankervis (Cameron)
Forwards: greene, Walters, Sicily, Christensen, fritsch, Ryan (garlett, giles)
Bank: 33.8k
Thoughts?
Really like this team as it has some really nice pods in there that are a genuine chance of being top 10 in there position.
Just keep an eye on the round 14 bye.
Tuohy, Beams, Parker and Nank are all good picks in my opinion.

Hopefully no one pick up on it but don’t understand how people are backing nank again considering he did nothing wrong last year is like 24yo do improving and is the only ruck in the team. May not average 100+ but will surely be in the consistent 90-95 area saving cash too. Only iffy player I’m on is Parker atm night go down coniglio and bump beams up to a 600k mid thoughts?

Depends how confident you are in Parker and Beams I like them both as pods personally but think Cogs has way too much value.
Nank didnt finish last year all that well which is putting me and a lot of others off.
Agree with MS about POD's... but they need to have capacity to be top 10 for their position. Tuohy hasn't ever shown that sort of scoring ability over a year. No positional change or role change probably only more competition for points. All other pods have potential to go top 10.

Although I like Tuohy and think he is a good player I think that it would be safer to go with Lloyd or Savage, Ablett, Danger, Selwood, Duncan, Mengola and Smith are all going to be scoring 90+ points and only so many players in one team can do it.

You aren’t wrong when you put it that way with the geelong players. So going to look at upgrading nank, possibly downgrading one of beams and Parker into coniglio to get that. Cash. Love both a show players but need to put head over heart first. Sydney going to be top 4 probably and Parker playing more half forward means more shots on goal and goal assists. Feel like he’ll be in the 110 mark, then you have beamer who can easily go 110 with rocky out. Do teams put a run with player on him? Shut him down basically shut down the lions...

Rich nearly always draws the first tag on us due to his damaging kicking. Would say if they opted a run with player it would be more than likely be Zorko before Beams. Zorko has shown he can not handle a tag and he is very damaging as well.

Bias aside in your opinions who has the better hear? Parker or beams or coniglio? Pick 2/3
Beams - Has not averaged less than 100 in seasons where he has played 15+ games played 19 games last year and 16 in 2015 Taking out his injury scores from last year average is 109 something which Coniglio has yet to achieve and Parker achieved in 2016. Coniglio only exceded the ton once in the last 5 games last season as well which is a concern for me.
So my ratings would be Beams, Parker and then Coniglio.
So I’ve basically locked in my team barring a couple of things.
Backline: laird, hibberd, Sicily, Bonner, naughton, finlayson (murray, doedee)
Mids: danger, dusty, Kelly, fyfe, bont, Parker, brayshaw, banfield (Kelly, Barry, Holman)
Rucks: Gawn, Nic Nat (olango)
Forwards: buddy, Walters, petracca, Christensen, fritsch, ZGL (garlett, Ryan)
Bank 30k
Question1. should I downgrade Bonner to a rookie and use that cash somewhere else?
Q2. Mundy v Walters v Billings?
Q3. Am I the only one gone mad?

1. Facing the same question myself. I think he's a solid enough option with Pittard and Broadbent out for 4-6 weeks+
2. Billings > Mundy > Walters
3. No ;D
Yeah I haven’t had Billings all year, had Walters but there’s something about mundys consistency I like. No interest in the port forwards, love dahlhaus as a dogs supporter but can’t see him being top 7. What are we realistically thinking Billings averages?

Reckon 95+ should be a near certainty. He's been tracking in the right direction the last few years. Should play a Greene type role for the Saints.
I do like Mundy as a PoD too though.
Backline: laird, hibberd, Sicily, doedee, finlayson, Murray (naughton, Murphy)
Mid: danger, Martin, Kelly, fyfe, Parker, bont, TKelly, Holman (brayshaw, banfield, Barry)
Rucks: Gawn, Jacobs (olango)
Forwards: franklin, Billings, petracca, Christensen, Fritsch, garlett (Ryan, ZGL)
Bank: 93.3k
29 trades.
Looking at trading Kelly straight to Mitchell or another pod if anyone can help.
Brayshaw out via finlayson to mids, ed Richards in defense.
Thoughts?
Those trades sound good gotta have Mitchell and young Richards looks like he will get some games with a lot of backs injured
Backline: laird, hibberd, Sicily, doedee, Richards, Murray (naughton, Murphy)
Mid: danger, Martin, Mitchell, fyfe, Parker, bont, TKelly, Finlayson (Holman, banfield, Barry)
Rucks: Gawn, Jacobs (olango)

Bank 86.6k
Proposed trades:
Ryan to Coffield via Sicily to forwards... means I have to play a 2 man premium defense for a couple of weeks.
What other trades would you recommend?
Buddy, Sicily, petracca, billings, Christensen, fritsch (garlett, ZGL)
What do do?
110k bank...
Garlett to Guelfi is certain
Buddy to Gray or Heeney. Loophole ZGL with Guelfi using Sicily.

Missed that so play Gray/Heeney Guelfi Fritsch and ZGL best I think you can do. Depends on what you want but the other alternative could be Petracca to Deledio who is going very well and will rise substantially this week with a negative break even.
So Billings, Deledio, Christensen, Fritsch, Guelfi, ZGL (Buddy/Sicily Bench)
Billings, Heeney/Gray, Christensen, Fritsch, Guelfi, ZGL (Sicily/ Petracc Bench)
All depends on Fritsch being named
