Title: WXV Round 15: Soaring Seoul v Powerful Pacific
Post by: Purple 77 on July 12, 2017, 01:34:57 PM
Gotta love those normal weeks

Round 15, AFL Round 17

New York RevolutionCairo SandsMetLife Stadium, AAP Alliance2  v  3
Beijing ThunderPNL ReindeersBeijing Olympic Park, EurAsia1  v  4
Tokyo SamuraiDublin DestroyersTokyo Olympic Stadium, EurAsia2  v  3

The Wolves slipped up last week against the Reindeers, all but ending their slim finals hopes. I guess teams have made it from 9-8 before, but I'm not sure this is that season. The Cobras also had a slip up of their own, being obliterated by a team with premiership aspirations. This game presents an opportunity for both teams to get some respectability on their win/loss ratios. But I reckon Toronto have been in some better form, so I'll back them from here.

The Saints lost in incredible circumstances last week; with the last-minute withdrawal of Toby McLean costing them an otherwise essential win in their pursuit of finals. That loss just... really hurts, and might even cost them finals. I reckon they'll need to win all 3 of their remaining games from here. The Spetsnaz are a dangerous opponent for this desperate Saints team; seemingly able to consistently put up competitive 130+ scores without their star talent. Moscow are every chance this match, but no matter the result, they should be commended for turning around a season that was looking to follow the same path as 2016. You know what? Moscow for me in this one.

The Dillos I trust made some good progress on the trade talks front last week; because they continue to struggle on the field and just aren't looking likely. Still, they will probably be armed with Picks 1, 19 and 20 in a months' time, I just hope they don't take out their frustrations against me... I've been nothing but respectful, after all. Berlin breathed a sigh of relief with a win against Tokyo last week, and will once again feel the pressure to 'not-lose' against another opponent in the bottom 4 of the ladder. Honestly, if I were to lose this match in my delicate pursuit of finals, I might just rage quit. Please let me win.

The Jags have struggled without GAJ & Watts, and with Cripps being subbed out with a season ending injury, the struggle might just continue. It was about this time last year that GAJ went down on the eve of finals, but at least Cripps was there to begin an incredible two months of footy to eventually win Rio the premiership. Who will stand up now? The Royals might even fancy themselves this week if things go to plan. Hannebery and Shuey are due for big games, and all that's really needed for a win is for the rest of the team to just not score below 70 individually. London are a chance, but I think Rio's desperation to make finals will prevail.

It's second v fourth, third v fourth on the points ladder and clearly my choice as the MATCH OF THE ROUND! Seoul continue to reap the rewards of it's three outstanding midfielders; Danger, Oliver and Kelly who have shown time and time again that massive scores can still be reached even if you do have 3-4 passengers. The Islanders however are fresh from a 160+ score where the load was spread a bit more evenly than a typical Seoul 160+. A stronger performance from the Islander leaders could take this team to 170+ I reckon. But can OliveField do it again? Heh, why not ey? The Magpies for me.

The new guys vs the old firm. The Tigers continued their standing as the premiership fancy's with another 150+ score, and another win will basically win them the minor premiership. They're just expected to make the top 4 now and really, you could argue they've replaced Mexico City with that reputation. The Suns were finally looking like dropping back from a 5 year high, but when they blast out 150+ scores like last week, then all of a sudden they go from write-offs to finals dark horses. I'd kinda like to see the Suns teach the new guys a thing or two, I just don't think it'll happen. New Delhi for me.

The Revolution once again managed another victory despite scoring sub-130 in fortunate circumstances, but they should be commended regardless for finding ways to win; an ability that sees them remain in the top 4 despite an awful recent form line. Their injured players just need to get back in time for finals, and they might do some damage yet. Cairo have now fallen out of the 8 at an alarming pace, and might have to manage two more wins from their last 3 to consolidate a place in finals. On recent form alone, New York is the most winnable game they have left and if they were to lose this game, I don't think they'll make finals. Do or die here for Cairo, and I think they might just do.

The 'Jing won't make finals, but at least they have World Idol to fight for and if they keep up this form they will probably take it out. It's a real tragedy that this team won't feature in finals, because this formline would have had the potential to go deep in September, even from 8th. The fans might be able to swallow the season better if the got something to show for it, so the Idol is a good goal. The Reindeers are one of the nervous teams sitting 8-6 amongst 6th-10th so every game is just incredibly vital. They have New Delhi next week before they face Cairo in Round 17, and they probably need two wins to give themselves a shot. It'll be tough, that's for sure. I don't see Beijing losing at the moment.

The Samurai, although we don't condone tanking at all, will the see benefit of not winning another game this year. As it stands, they'll receive an end of first round priority pick and that'd be some handy currency come the trade period. With Dublin & Beijing coming up, the game against Cape Town will either be a morale boosting win, or a handy loss. The Destroyers survived a scare from Moscow last week in yet another instance where its midfield failed to fire. They desperately need them to win they play finals, because if they do for 3-4 weeks in a row.... they win the premiership in my opinion. For the moment, it's all about finding a way back into the top 4, and with Seoul or Pacific to lose, a big win here will see them back in I reckon. Dublin for me.

It wasn't just the fact that I took McLean out, but also selecting Clay Smith to replace him. I had 9 players in the reserves and if I picked ANY of them instead of Smith we'd still have won, but no. Would have won with Connor as captain instead of Bryce, the only reason Blakely wasn't captain was because of Purples little quip about me ignoring Gibbs while Blakely and Boyd are in the picture. Compo thanks Purps, for clouding my judgement like that.

Confirmed ins: Austin, Wells, Bob
Potential ins: Silvagni, Cox, Masten

Confirmed outs: Fiorini, Clay, Mzungu
Potential outs (extended bench): Vardy, Petrie, Lester

Hopefully all players named on the benches play so the Weta can increase their numbers.

Blakely playing the Docherty role across half back is a positive move for his SC and will get him DPP. He's learnt how to kick and his inboard kicks to the corridor are telling, although he bites off a little too much occasionally. Can win contested ball better than scoring machine Dochers and he'll have a 2016 Cripps-like finish to the year and lead us to the flag. Watch.

If I name Callum Sinclair as ruck and he does not play, doe the first emergency not required go to Ruck OOP? eg McStay first named will he be the OOP Ruck if not required elsewhere. Think I am right but just need the clarification.

Purps just a clarification before I name team due to some late developments:

Correct.

Unless, a utility goes down as well, then the LOWEST scoring emergency out of E1 & E2 will be OOP, regardless of order.

But yeah, it'd likely be your E1

CHRISTCHURCH SINNERS

B: Robert Murphy, Leigh Montagna, Jarrad McVeigh, Jake Lever
M: Sam Mitchell, Daniel Wells, Bryce Gibbs (vc), Connor Blakely (c)
R: Sean Darcy
F: Shaun Higgins, James Stewart, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Toby McLean
I: Nathan Vardy, Jack Steele

E: Sam Petrevski-Seton, Jordan Roughead, Nathan Wilson

I agonised over Lester vs Stewart vs SPS (via Steele) vs Roughead. Also Wilson vs McVeigh. Hopefully handing Lord James his Christchurch debut doesn't slaughter us.

Wellington Weta

Nathan Wilson, Harris Andrews, Alex Silvagni, Daniel McKenzie, Conor McKenna, Cedric Cox, Logan Austin
Sam Petrevski-Seton, Chris Masten, Alex Neal-Bullen
Jordan Roughead
Ryan Lester, Drew Petrie

The Weta getting stronger in their pursuit of back to back flags. Kyle Langford knocking on the door, while Clay, Mzungu, Fiorini, Anderson are always in the mix, with Waite and Boyd to return soonish. Griff to make his return in round 23 hopefully.

I didn't see the game last night but apparently Gilbert went off injured?

Not bad enough that he was our OOP ruck, but thanks for the whopping 20 points LOL  :'(

Was hoping for a 40

You'd be happy with last nights efforts Nige

Roberton and Newnes I expected so that's fine, but Colyer 91 Pls

Would have been nice to see Lonie and McGrath score less too

Very good start for you

It was between Gilbert and Stringer for ruck this week. Watch Stringer ton up now

Haha yeah. I'll admit I was nervous Newnes would bust as CC and that Robbo would continue his poor-ish form. Colyer started a tad slow but gonna into which was good. Pidge started really well and faded in and out a little, but him and Lonie both scored well, especially Lonie considering he was butchering it early haha. Koby was the killer though, expect more out of him but we got off to a decent start.

Now it's just up to the rest of the team to continue on with this effort.  :P

I think we can assume Meow is tanking by captaining Blakely over Gibbs.

107.9 average since he became gun. Looks like a legitimate captain option to me.
122 over the last 9 also seems like a legit captain option ???

I'm getting ready for next year when Gibbs will be at Seoul and Connor is going to have to do it all. Plus I don't want Gibbs to go huge since he's playing the Dogs.

Emergency Talia on FIRE, Steven May injured early and will be subbed out. Pity Burton is on the bench so Hipwood comes on instead.

Yeah, a REAL pity ey?  :P

Eric will probably kick 10 and score 200.

I think we can assume Meow is tanking by captaining Blakely over Gibbs.

With the exception of the Rio & Berlin games, all the others aren't really that clear cut!

New York & Cairo are having an epic

Beijing & PNL too

And oh, how another 30 or so points from Luke Parker would have helped...

we are tracking ok atm
but I'm worried Beijing have the cattle and the consistency from their players to get them home in this one
HGA could prove massive

Pretty happy with how we're travelling so far, but damn that ruck score really hurts

I think we'll know more once Beams and Matho play first up, and then the WCE vs FRE game is going to be nerving!

Looking good but a decent captain score from Cotch could make this interesting
Cotch Rocky and Simmo can all go very big, and we still have Sumner :-X

Zorko's 55 as HGA might be the killer
Casboult gone quite with the dogs firing
and with the 2 vs 2 after that think Jing better placed with more quality
Ryan so far since coming in goes god  game then bad game
91 last week so due for a 50 odd

Moscow 1265

Christchurch 925/11 inc. HGA

So, Blakely x2, Vardy, Smitch and Darcy need to combine for 340. 8 mins into the 2nd, They're on 225. Game over I think.

Should have seen this coming, he tonned up in Round 1 and Round 8. Obvious pattern.

Still reckon it's over.  :P :'(

Yeah HGA included

Hurn just making up for lack of ruck

Super Hurn + Injured OOP Gilbert = Normal Hurn + Tippett  ;D

That should hopefully quieten the haters for a week or so  :P

Take a bow Shannon Hurn! The game was neck and neck until the mighty Shannon dragged the Revolution over the line, and then some! Beijing Crowd Thunders Reindeers Away

196 last week, 55 (and the lowest score) the next for Captain Zorko, and it nearly cost Beijing. Alas, the crowd and a rested Brandon Ellis got Beijing over the line, whereas a mighty effort from Wingard couldn't keep the Reindeer train rolling. Dublin dodge Samurai Scare

Firstly, it's a wonder what a 130+ score does for your competitiveness! Tokyo where in this the whole way, but needed more from Captain Parker if they were to topple the Destroyers. An admirable effort, but Dublin is probably not going to score any lower for the rest of the year.

153, feels good

Good match Cairo, you're definitely a chance next week vs Dublin

As for us, our last 2 games are vs the best 2 teams in Seoul and NDT, so hopefully this weeks win is enough to hold a Top 4 spot

We're a chance vs both of them, but are pretty big underdogs

flowering Sumner  >:(

Pretty sure we just got kicked out of Idol. 138 to Jings's 143

A measly 55 from Cameron (x2 for HGA) would have been enough to get 144, but no, he's a late out and Sumner a late in for a massive 6 touches, 1 mark, 1 FA and 26SC points. And he had half those SC points in the first 5 min of the game

I miss Cloke :'(

flowering Sumner  >:(

Pretty sure we just got kicked out of Idol. 138 to Jings's 143

A measly 55 from Cameron (x2 for HGA) would have been enough to get 144, but no, he's a late out and Sumner a late in for a massive 6 touches, 1 mark, 1 FA and 26SC points. And he had half those SC points in the first 5 min of the game

I miss Cloke :'(
Make that only 48 needed

Even Rich's OOP would have nearly got there

Wowee, so that does confirm that we would have beaten both Dublin and PNL this week.

Watch it not happen the next two weeks though.  :P

Not going to lie

Pretty sweet that we we're questioned last week about our scoring and then we came out and got the highest score of the round  ;D

Next week vs Seoul is going to be massive!

Surely they're due for a loss!

im not sure. Sloane is in doubt.

In saying that he has been scoring soo poor lately that his replacement might outscore him.

I think we won by 10SC with a whopping score in the 120's  :'(

Clay 28 + 28 + Roughead 59 = 115
Walls 65 + Douglas 43 = 108

Lever being a gun helps but if Selwood puts up a 120 vs 100 from Gibbs it'll make things quite interesting. I think it'll be a case of who is less bad will get the win rather than either team being good.

Definitely be the case for us

Sorry Purps, I didn't quote my team so you might have missed it. I dropped McLean for Lester in a move that might cost me the match.

Don't worry, Wallis and Douglas were pathetic, and we still have no ruck

You got this

We're gonna miss finals. flower my life.

Don't feel too bad. We've basically been Top 2 all year and have just fallen to 3rd but will probably fall out of the 8 soon enough

Doesn't help when 6 of your best XV aren't playing, as well as your 16th-18th best players. OOP ruck too

Absolutely smashed with injuries and poor form

How about Danger

It's got to the point where you basically have 16 playing each week now!

About 6 more than us!

Quote from: RaisyDaisy on July 02, 2017, 08:21:53 PM
Heads up Purps, when you list the best players in our match review, it will be blank LOL not a single ton

Quote from: RaisyDaisy on July 02, 2017, 12:48:13 AM
Jelwood late out so we get Heeney's average score of 89 as C AND lose our best scoring player

Lewis 43
Harmes 37
Hannan 57
Stringer 58
Wallis 66
Tarrant 74
Douglas 71
Henderson 70

Scully, Tyson and Reid 80's

Heeney our highest scorer with 89

And an OOP ruck to come

It's reached the point where all you can do is just laugh

I think my new avatar is actually me looking at my SC AND WXV

Quote from: RaisyDaisy on July 01, 2017, 09:42:49 AM
Lewis 43
Harmes 37

With our injury list and the never ending pathetic scores like this week in week out NY are officially in crisis mode and fading to oblivion very quickly  :'(

^^^ Those comments were made whilst we had several starters out, so your gag falls short :P

Holz and others were expecting us to perform this round as we had everyone bar Tyson and Tippett back, and we did. Pretty sure the convo was in the discussion thread

Anyway, hopefully we can maintain a relatively healthy list now heading into the finals which should make us competitive - something we have not been prior to this week due to said injuries

Congrats RD you showed me with a big scores, easily beating me this week and outscoring your predicted range (which i thought was too optimistic).

NY just keep doing enough each week to win, pretty amazing really.

I actually want you to keep winning now so I can pick up NDT in the first round.

Doing a great job RD. Another surprisingly good performance and looking good. If only Tippett comes back...
