Title: WXV Round 4: The Losing Score feat Rio & Pacific
Post by: Purple 77 on April 11, 2017, 09:40:55 PM
Faaarrrk. Thursday AND Monday games.

Following the same theme that I normally do for Easter Weekends...

TWO PARTIAL LOCKOUTS

(1) Thursday night at 8:10pm AEDT: West Coast v Sydney.

This means that all West Coast and Sydney players you choose (or don't choose) to be in your team, will be 'locked in', meaning you cannot drop (or select initially un-chosen) players as soon as the first bounce occurs.

(2) Friday at 4:20pm AEDT: North Melbourne v Western Bulldogs

This means that all North and Doggies players you choose (or don't choose) to be in your team, will be 'locked in', meaning you cannot drop (or select initially un-chosen) players as soon as the first bounce occurs.

The rest of the round will be locked out at the commencement of Melbourne v Fremantle on Saturday afternoon.

Round 4, AFL Round 4, Easter Weekend

Welp. Last week sure did suck. Berlin went down the moment captain Gawn did, and there wasn’t much else the rest of the team could do to cover for him, despite their efforts. At least the Brewers won’t have the persistent captaincy dilemma of Fyfe or Gawn... so there is that. Apart from that major setback, the Brewers seem to be in good shape with Steven & Armitage set to return this week. Moscow would be desperate for a similar situation, given Coniglio, Hogan and Naitanui are all unavailable too. Their absence is certainly being felt; Moscow sit last on the points ladder and 16th currently, having notched up their only win in Round 2. The Spetsnaz just need more players to step up alongside Docherty & Heppell and until that happens, I’ll back my Brewers to get the win.

The Sands have taken a noticeable positive step in their competitiveness this year; perhaps unlucky to lose against Tokyo, then a magnificent win against Pacific and just last week keeping up with Mexico City until Riewoldt entered the arena. Mummy, Beams and Adams are providing great leadership this year and it’s not until you see how good they are in action that you realise how badly they were missed at times last year. The Jaguars join Pacific & Berlin as top 8 points scorers currently 1-2; it’s a tough comp this year. Last week the Jaguars were shown up by the rising Magpies despite hitting 140+ for the third week in a row. Rio would fancy their chances against Cairo this week and would certainly love a 150+ score for the confidence anytime soon. I reckon they’re due, and I will yet again tip against the Sands here.

The Cobras have been a proverbial yo-yo so far this year. After a ripping win against Beijing in Round 1, they put in a stinker against the struggling Moscow. But last week the Cobras rebounded solidly, it was just a shame Dublin set a new 2017 high score at the same time. Nothing much you can do there, except thank their lucky Kents that it’s over. The Reindeers continued driving the rocky roads of struggle street last week; a score of 120 not enough to notch up the win against Tokyo. It was the  bottom 3 players that were again the culprit at PNL who are crying out for one of Kennedy, Miles or Sheridan to step up and contribute. Pridda, Zerrett, Shiel and Hodge can only do so much but even they would need to combine for maybe 440+ for the Reindeers to challenge the top teams. An interesting game this one though and I give the Reindeers a sneaky chance. But just a sneaky one, as I’ll back the Cobras in this one.

The Saints will you tell you otherwise by listing all of their injured players, but frankly I'd wager they have the most wins from the scoring range of 120-135 than any other team since their induction in 2015. The Saints relied on their HGA to prevail over the Brewers last week whom had their captain go down early through injury... but you know, I'm like, over it, you know? Christchurch sit 7th and 2-1 despite being the 13th highest scoring team so far this year. But defence wins games too, by conceding just the 5th fewest points as well. They'll need their #LuckOfTheChristhchurch to keep Seoul to a low total though whom are coming off consecutive 140+ scores, largely on the back of OlivField (I'm stealing that thanks meow). Captain Danger has produced a 139 average so far and boy, that is just a major advantage over the whole competition and one that currently reflects its ladder position of 2nd place. The midfield is clicking over at Seoul; beware to those whom come up against it. I'm not tipping against Seoul anytime soon.

I’m already sick of writing about how good Dublin are... I would have done it at least 34 times over the last 2 years. Anyway, they’re back at the number 1 spot on the real and points ladder, so I guess The Leader is good. The Leader is great. We surrender our will, as of this date (https://youtu.be/U1FxfR3lg6Q?t=4). I will admit that I may have simply forgot about Dublin when I said Beijing & Pacific had the best midfields in the comp (more on that later), and it was clear that Dublin was listening. I retract that statement. The Revolution managed to scrape another win last week, despite... those disadvantages. They haven’t set the world on fire yet, but they haven’t had a clear run at it either and when guys like Lewis, Tippett and Heeney return, you might see me tip New York here. But, with an OOP ruck, and no HGA, and those reasons alone, I will have to back The Leader.

Yeah. Look, I liked it when I wasn’t intimidated by New Delhi, back in the day. They unsettle me now, given they just cracked back-to-back 160+ scores. Taking down Rio & Pacific in the process are great scalps and their draw opens up a little from now on, but they’ll have to handle the tag of favourites; something they probably haven’t experienced much until now. Buenos Aires will need to call on its 3 centurions this year (I’ll stop bringing it up when I lose count Vinzander :P) and then some to even compete with a bad Tiger day at this rate. The Dillos might not get a good chance at a win until Round 7, with the Tigers, Rio and Dublin marking an intimidating upcoming trio. If you win any of these games, I’ll exempt you from any negative previews, reviews or general comments for the rest of the year. So with my caps lock still set to SAVAGE, I’ll be tipping the Tigers here.

They probably had the most memorable match of 2017 last year, and I’m tipping another blinder so I’m making it my MATCH OF THE ROUND! The best mids on the comp*? The Islanders have real cause to kick up a stink here... I know I would - and did - because I similarly was often a high scoring loser in 2016. I think it was... 4 times? Yeah, 4 times last year I scored 140+ and lost. So, 2 more times to go guys! You’ve so far kept your composure, which really, is the difference between you guys and me. The Thunder would be really kicking themselves for letting a golden opportunity to beat a highly ranked opponent go with Harry Taylor, whom I’ve been told will find it hard to enter the country for at least the next little bit. Last year, this game decided which of the two would make the finals and, given both are 1-2, it could well be another 8 point game on the cards. But alas, there is no Josh Jenkins for the Thunder to score 171+18 rest points and I think I’ll back the more consistent Islanders in this one. Come on Toges though, Jayden Hunt is right there.

The Samurai have started the season fairly well; sitting 2-1 at 5th spot despite being 12th on the points ladder. *mutters* “I guess Cameron, Stretch, Atkins & Ruggles can’t always score 400+ each week” *endmutter*. If I was to make one suggestion/observation, is that Luke Parker hasn’t pulled the trigger yet this year. Given that Mexico City scored 178 against Tokyo the last time they played, why not go all out and stick the C on him? By all means do what you like Boomz, but I’ve written it down now, it’s on record.  The Suns recovered from their Round 2 aberration against Beijing to come out swinging with 6 centurions; none more impressive than the magnificent Nick Riewoldt. Normally that spells mammoth score, but you see, there is this guy you keep naming at F4 called Ty which is really holding you back. Free advice has never been so helpful.  Anyway, the Suns for me, they just look too good.

The Wolves! First win on the board, and 8 weeks sooner than last year. They’ve been consistently steady this year and you’d be surprised how often that results in wins. The Wolves now have real leadership amongst their ranks and, as I mentioned last week, when guys like Hopper (90) come up and help them out, it spells another win for Canada. That was actually Hopper’s second WXV Rising Star nomination too, so... the more you know, I guess. But the Royals! 2 wins a row for the first time since... hmm, your 3-win streak from Rounds 2-4 last year. Is a repeat on the cards for the Royals? Well, like the Wolves, the Royals have some real leaders that can cause damage and when guys like Saad & Membrey step up and help, they will notch up some wins! Although I’m sure Gray & Fantasia won’t score 74 between them often, I like the Wolves here with HGA.

Consistency was the key improvement we wanted this season, and with scores of 153, 145, 146  the early signs are looking good.
Finally get a Home game and really need a win, hopefully the boys can bring it to inflict an Easter massacre on Beijing.

Kurt is a decent shot of playing i think.

I reckon im a little vulnerable at the moment im having major issues in the backline and rucks and im actually not going great in the forward line, Hawkins the only consistent guy.

im just lucky my 5 mids are on absolute fire with Sloane Martin Jones in career best form at the moment. Hill and Treloar been playing about to their level, maybe abit under for Treloar.

just realised i have a very good strategy if crouch is back. Rest Omac and Weits every single week and gain a 10% bonus. Both guys are dragging my down with only 65 but i can bump that up to 72 with the resting.

What happens if you continuously rest the wrong one?

Rest Omac this week and he scores 100 whilst Weits goes 45?

Then next week rested Omac goes 50 + 5 whilst Weits goes 100 but is being rested?

then im just unlucky. Im pretty annoyed about weits he should be on track to be the best CHB in the game when he overtake Rance but they are playing him up front. At least i got plowman who is taking all those points. Plus Weits keeps getting these small injuries, in round 1 sore back and in round 3 he was off the ground for abit with a head knock.

both OMac and Weits are reasonably consistent seem to go 50-85 most weeks.

Ill have Grant Birchall back at some point anyway.

I should be sacked for not making a big enough deal about this, but...

Brad Ebert is on 99 games! This could be the week!

Will Rio name him? If so, will he be subbed out through injury?

I have a feeling there is a couple of more twists yet to play out...

Else, it's in the 2012 archive, on the second page, entitled World XVs - Round 1 (Rivalry) (http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php/topic,51159.0.html)

Ugh. I'm a bit cringe-worthy in those early days.

Frankly, I can't understand why he hasn't appealed for leniency on selecting a player outside the leadership group. That's even more disappointing.

Lol, do you know that Max Gawn's 2015 year had a lot to do with the Leadership Group rule? Basically stops pre-season nobodies like Nank unrealistically taking captaincy duties later on :P

Lock ANB in for 130 now, even though I would like him to flower off. Taking Brayshaw's spot in the side. >:(

just realised i have a very good strategy if crouch is back. Rest Omac and Weits every single week and gain a 10% bonus. Both guys are dragging my down with only 65 but i can bump that up to 72 with the resting.

Out Crouch :(

Glad to know Frost is rated more than OMac by Goodwin. I mean, I like him, but he brings the worst out of me haha

Not sure if I should take Cunningham/Cripps and risk late outs or not... Cunningham especially tempting as a defender.

R: Aaron Sandilands (CC)
F: Jack Steele, Alex Neal-Bullen (CC), Will Hoskin-Elliott, Shaun Higgins

E: Thomas Boyd, Nathan Wilson, Nathan Vardy

Cedric Cox to debut! Try to pick his natural kicking foot, it's impossible to tell. Good to have his cousin SPS in the team for his debut. Brisbane will probably play him up forward to kill his scoring potential.

ANB will have to settle for co-captaincy this week since 211 should be looking at 50+ hitouts.

Good to see Clay back, 15 tackles first up is solid. Toby Mac doing nice things for the Weta also.

Tempted to loop Boyd's score in but hopefully Steele and WHE can both beat it.

D: Johannisen, Williams, McDonald-Tipungwuti, Morgan
M: Parker (VC), Stretch, Atkins, Redden
R: Smith
F: Dahlhaus (C), Young, Cameron, Dunkley
U: Powell-Pepper, Phillips
E: Cripps, Cunningham, Ibbotson

Morgan comes in so I can loophole Cunningham into defence, Ibbotson unlucky again to miss out.

Dunkley a bit disappointing first up but Dahlhaus stood up as captain after yet another underwhelming score from Parker.

Just finished going through all the teams... I can see two things:

1) @Holz, you rested OMac before first partial lockout so can't unrest him. Means nothing really, but in the off chance he comes in late in the AFL, that means he will be rested for next week. Else if he doesn't play, then he isn't rested.

2) @meow, the latest team I had for you is the one on the previous thread page. That team had Vardy E1 & Boyd E2, so they'll have to stay there. The team I have for you is the one I'll post shortly.

Be sure to check I've recorded your teams correctly, as I've done all this on a small Microsoft Surface Pro  :-X

C: Sam Petrevski-Seton, Brayden Fiorini, Connor Blakely, Bryce Gibbs
R: Aaron Sandilands (CC)
F: Jack Steele, Alex Neal-Bullen (CC), Will Hoskin-Elliott, Shaun Higgins
I: Sam Mitchell, Chris Masten

Doubt it MM as he is in the team for Frost. And agree try picking his kicking foot as he is proficient of both unlike another Lion  ;).  One of the reasons I think he will remain at HB.

So far so good, but remember we have Hendo in the ruck

Would be unheard of if we got up

I would really prefer it if Jake Melksham took ALL of Dom Tyson's 28 disposals. That's where he stands to me right now.

Should be scaled down to sub 80 if CD has any justice

Demonland wants him dropped FWIW :P especially after last week. I personally like him, but he could easily be out of the side in round 6  ;)

Purps to tip against us next week at the incredibly juicy odds of $3.20!

Purps, does the sub rule apply to emergencies as well? Somehow I missed that Savage was omitted, so will I get Hamling's score as emergency instead of Kelly (injured in 2nd quarter and didn't return)?

Have a feeling we're going to need those extra 12 points!

DOCTOR WHO IS BACK!!!!!

This probably also means that releasing the final results will also be delayed on Sunday nights in the foreseeable future. Fair warning.

After Sunday... there are some crazy results forming here:

No HGA's applied yet.

Score Summary
Berlin Brewers (1033) from 12# vs Moscow Spetsnaz (1013) from 13**
Cairo Sands (1568) from 14** vs Rio de Janeiro Jaguars (1368) from 14#
Cape Town Cobras (1122) from 14# vs PNL Reindeers (1120) from 12#
Christchurch Saints (1255) from 15** vs Seoul Magpies (1138) from 12
Dublin Destroyers (1057) from 13** vs New York Revolution (1036) from 11
New Delhi Tigers (1557) from 15# vs Buenos Aires Armadillos (897) from 13#
Pacific Islanders (1136) from 13# vs Beijing Thunder (1291) from 14**
Tokyo Samurai (1251) from 14# vs Mexico City Suns (1503) from 14#
Toronto Wolves (1102) from 14# vs London Royals (1265) from 14#

# = Captain Played
* = one Co-Captain Played
** = two Co-Captain's Played

Berlin aren't doing a lot to impress, but should bring home the Easter chocolates. Not having a ruck is really hurting Moscow.

Like, is this really happening?

PNL are looking to bring home their first win of the season! Griffin Logue the big homewrecker for Cape Town.

Seoul are looking dangerous this year! Lynch & Matera combining for 320 points, dayum.

Dublin's midfield has fell amazingly flat! Incredibly, the Revolution should bring this home!

*moves uncomfortably*

REALLY good game this one (I sure do pick my MOTRs)! Tom Mitchell + Steven Motlop v Thurlow + 128 points (if you assume 27 HGA for Pacific). Beijing likely, but not impossible!

Tokyo were looking good until Captain Rockliff...

London looks likely for 3 in a row!

An OOP ruck and HGA against in Dublin. Surely this has never been done before!

Why couldn't Barlow have been put on ice earlier, so we could have avoided his score.  Terrible HGA result.
C'mon  Mithchell and Motlop, you're our only hope.

Boy'o'Boy,  this is tight.  One quarter left and roughly 30 odd points to make up.  A draw is on the cards. :)
Actually looking like just 10 points to make up.

Ah, the SC scaling tease.

You see, the Haw/Geel total adds up to 3302, but I don't think scaling has happened yet.

But it might have? Who knows! They might update it in 5 minutes, two hours, or tomorrow. Each of those scenarios has happened to me so far  ::)

In the mean time, the only result in dispute today has incredibly gone in favour of the Islanders!

Sigh, I still bet CD will scale their scores. If anyone sees that they have from this point onwards, kindly let me know.

But no results will be affected anyway.

Seouls' Material Lynch-Pin

320 points between Matera and Tom J Lynch has seen Seoul notch up another 140+ score, but this time with no notable contribution from Danger! The Saints remain patient for the returns of their veterans, although CC Neal-Bullen did OK!

Royals stave off hungry Wolves

It was a great opportunity for both teams, but it was the Royals bottom 5 players that wanted it more (305 points scored to 200 points). A bitter feeling for Toronto, but 3 in a row has London sky high!

You're all just haters  8)

I know deep down you wish you could win with an OOP ruck and HGA against, but only we can!  :P

Congrats RD.

I ws shocking but your boys put up a game winning score and deserved it.

Looking to bounce back big next week.

We just got you on a bad week. No doubt you'll beat us more than we beat you but it's good to enjoy these moments throughout the season

We're waiting on a few best 15 players to return, because our scoring is poor compared to all the other top 8 teams atm so we're just lucky at this stage to be 4-0

Wow top stuff, I actually thought you guys where losing as you wernt posting big scores. However more importantly then posting big scores is not posting bad scores.

128 with HGA is just shocking.

Its lucky Sloane Hawkins and Jroo stepped up or it could have even been worse.

Could have used Mundy and Jelly this week. On the bright side Brad Crouch surely has to be back this week, he is looking great in the 2s.

Lots of holes at Dublin. have gone very young and shallow. The worse trade of the year was giving mackie away for nothing i could use him desperately. Im in disaray in the backline Birchall is gione, Weits is getting played up forward. Tmac and Rance are not what they arwe supposed to be. Tmac dropped, Plowman was great but shcoking this week. Do i now go Schade who is getting better with 68 76 84 last 3 weeks.

Not too unhappy with Buddy + Roughy for Crouch + 27 despite how bad it looked last week.
