The bottom two teams of 2014, the big 2015 improvers and now the young formidable 2016 outfits, these two teams have been spoken in the same breath for some time now! Beijing are coming off a stinker of a week; scoring 1199 and losing to an otherwise beatable Moscow. I suppose that just reminded us that they're still young, and that four straight weeks of 140+ scores had to eventually come to an end. Pacific have had a rotten run of late, with 3 consecutive losses to Buenos Aires, Dublin and last week PNL that has seen them slip outside of the eight. Michael Hurley's absence is finally being felt I feel, even if James Kelly's super season has stemmed the bleeding. I personally think Pacific have a bigger ceiling than the Thunder, but I like the Thunder's 140+ overall consistency better and I'll back them for their first win over Pacific!
The Samurai have actually pulled it together after 7 rounds of the admin flinging hate them. In the last three weeks, the Samurai have been able to produce steady scores of 140, 141 & 136 but unfortunately have only been able to post the one win during this time. Just to make you stop and appreciate that competitiveness, that scoreline is from the team that sits bloomin 16th on the ladder! Buenos Aires have really been a story this season, with a fresh start from new coaches seeing them enter the eight from a 0-4 start! That of course means that the Dillos have won the past 6 rounds, with perhaps its most note-able and hard fought win coming last week against the Brewers. Who can possibly stop these rampant Dillos?! Well the Samurai can, but this tactic of "playing Pendlebury in the midfield" is a real winner for the Dillos and I think it might just notch their 7th!
This bottom of the table clash really tempted me with the gong of MOTR, but seeing as Toronto is still probably going to receive the spoon regardless of the result, I didn't. Poor, poor Cairo. After such a promising first month, they have averaged 117 points per game ever since and that hasn't made for pleasant viewing. Adding to the pain of poor form and no Dayne Beams is now the injured Taylor Adams and I can't help but wonder whether Cairo will have to hilariously play an OOP mid... again. Toronto... yeah we all know they've had a winless season, but lets focus on the fact that they could really win this week! In the last 6 weeks, they have outscored Cairo by 9 WXV points and had these two teams played each other every week, Toronto would have won 5 of them, including the last 3! The Wolves just gotta nail that captain selection and we might just see Toronto's maiden win for the season (a potential double up with Fremantle too for coach Ada!). Reading back, I see that I've totally painted these two teams in contrasting lights...that's unprofessional and I'm sorry... GO TORONTO GO!
Christchurch coach meow meow will have you believe that Christchurch will start to improve dramatically from this week onwards, and you can see why with a host of quality players looking likely to be available for selection. But what the amazing thing is, is that these players will walk in to the 13th highest scoring team of the year... in 5th position. Crazy. But London have been a bit similar, being the 16th highest scoring team and only a game and % away from the eight. The Royals have been ultra consistent with 3 130+ scores and the remainder being 120+. It's not world beating, but hey it's got them 4 wins this year and you gotta give their defence credit. But, the Saints have been doing this better for longer and I'd expect them to get over the line for their 8th win... amazing.
There is no arguing that these Tigers are a vastly different unit to what they were last year. I mean, if they lost the remainder of their games this year, the season could still be marked down as a huge success. Despite being 12th on the ladder, the Tigers are the 5th highest scoring team so far this year! Wow! Moscow in that regard, seem to be the complete opposite; sitting 9th on the ladder (when you consider their outs, that's god damn impressive) but 15th on the points ladder. The Spetsnaz though have really turned up in the last two weeks with scores of 136 & 142 and if they post a score in that vicinity again, then you'd give them a chance to upset the Tigers... despite being above them on the ladder. Moscow would have beaten the Tigers last week, but I reckon New Delhi will respond to their recent loss and account for the Spetsnaz.
Two top 4 teams go head-to-head in what is my MATCH OF THE ROUND! The Revolution posted a character defining win against the rising Tigers last week, and I say character defining in that they had quality players miss in a game which, ultimately decided whether they'd be in top 4 at the end of it. The Revs continue to be a threatening force of the competition but are still perhaps fighting for genuine top 4 credentials and respect (despite being 3rd on the points ladder). That fight could be won this week should they beat the Suns, whom are just cruising along nicely being 2nd on both the points and competition ladder. Interestingly, the Suns are yet to win 4 games in a row yet this season with its previous streak of 3 ended by a surprise Seoul effort. It is on 3 yet again, so is this a mental burden on its players? Can it not win 4 games in a row? Or is the admin struggling to find new and interesting things about the Suns? Given the options, I strongly suspect mental demons and I'm hitting the "F*ck it" button and tipping the Revs!
The Reindeers are in the eight! The Reindeers are in the bloomin eight! Wow, I declared their season over when they were 1-4 and in the bottom 5 on the points ladder. Maybe their coaches are right? They need me to hate them in order for their success to eventuate? But don't they see?! When they go and score 147, 145 and 147 in consecutive weeks and save their season from the shower house, I can't hate them for that! That's just damn impressive! The Cobras themselves have attracted turned things around a little, with their past two scores of 141 & 132 above their before then season average of 128. It took the best player in WXVs history to take the win off the Cobras last week, and unfortunately for them, a player of similar ilk in Billy Stretch awaits them in the Reindeer line-up. Can the Cobras overcome this flexible fella? I'll tip the Reindeers, but also test a theory... *ahem*, I LOVE YOU PNL! PNL FOR PREMIERSHIP! *sits back and observes*
The Jaguar hype has quietened substantially of late. Is it a result of their featuring in top 4 being accepted across Worlds and is no longer considered an anomaly? Maybe. Or is it because their last 5 weeks has seen them average more than 200 points less than their first 5 weeks? Nah, probably not. In either case, they should be able to account for the Brewers through a combination of; the Berlin coach marvelling at his team too long before the season started, Berlin being shower, Berin being unlucky, Berlin being screwed over with divine intervention, and the Berlin coach interacting with people IRL which cost him the match last week. Despite being 6th in the points ladder, Berlin has four unimpressive wins to show for it, and is ultimately flowering over this shower flowering season. Jack Viney's absence just enhances the coach's new motto, so yeah, Jaguars easily.
The Magpies are just percentage away from being in the top eight, and with the scalps of Christchurch & Mexico City behind them, who knows what they could accomplish this year? They have a reasonably challenging draw ahead of them however, so the odds are probably stacked against them to make an inspired finals appearance. However, a daring dream of a win against Dublin could seriously change all of that, but they just gotta believe. The Destroyers continue to be the highest scoring team of the comp and number one on the ladder, but what they've shown this year compared to last year, is the odd off game. Although I'm aware in this case that I'm saying an "off" game is a score of 145 or less, but that score is in the beatable territory, so you never know really. But yeah, Dublin should get it done.
lmao Billy Stretch ;D
Gotta back Toronto in for their first W! Too many injuries for Cairo.
I don't see what the fuss is about. ???
Pearce Hanley, Luke Dunstan, Karl Amon and Mark Hutchings are a midfield to fear.
Beijing vs Pacific! Great matchup between two clubs who have always been at similar stages of their development.
What a cracking round - besides Dublin (no offence Seoul) every game is a genuine 50/50
I don't expect to beat Mexico, especially with Rocky returning to bolster their stocks but we'll give it our best shot! Hoping a few of our starting 15 return this week too
Exciting round for sure!

But in all seriousness it's gonna be a great matchup, hopefully our boys turn up this week!

Roughy out is doing major damage.
And walters for yarran :( compounds it
M.Kennedy is doing great in the neafl so maybe my youth policy will pay off.
Jetta needs to lift.
Really looking forward to the Pacific/Beijing game this weekend! Two teams with bucketloads of talent

I'm so satisfied to hear that from an outsider, even if it's only referring to his fantasy output.
Should be in All-Aus talks, like he should have been in 2014... don't let my bias fool you, you should look at ALL the quality small forwards he's shut down, and now in this year, he has added an offensive element to his game.

he is a really good player, there is a reason teams want to poach him.
4 tackles a game is pretty decent.
actually turning into a good fantasy player. 7/9 games being 70+
75 82 90 in the last 3 is good.
I reckon he can average 75 from here on out. which sadly locks him on my field.

Losing Sheed and having to play Tyrone (who averaged more in 2015 anyway) doesn't change your best team's output either. So really, your best XV has missed a combined 30 games in total due to injury/suspension.

Yep, quality > quantity. I'd say that having Laird, Hurley and Devon Smith all out has been far more damaging than Moscow's injury list combined.

He is too good to be stopped especially under the guidance of our elders, the ancient wise being known as Corey Enright and Superman himself, Matthew Priddis. When their knowledge and skills are fused together, you obtain the once in a lifetime talent Billy "The Kid" Stretch.

I had him in i5's the year before so was watching him for some time and knew he was capable of averaging 90 which would be great for a Utility spot

It was so bad haha, he still missed the shot though so didn't cost you guys the game or anything :P
Lang you beauty! Just brought down Tyson's huge game >:D.
300 from Shiel, Enright and Zac, pretty happy with that. Should have been more but ah well.
Shaw and Bartel ton up too for Mexico
Seriously, have a look at their score card!
I don't even care that we've lost - this is an insane round by Mexico!
I can really see them dominating TotW as well at this rate... Surely highest score of the season at a minimum if their team keeps it up.
Sucks for you guys RD and AK, actually going well yourselves but just wrong week to face Mexico!
just because, you know, wow:

Mids: J.Selwood, R.Sloane, A.Treloar, N. Dal Santo
Ruck: M.Daw
Fwds: D.Martin, L.Franklin,J.Gunston, J.Riewoldt

But more interestingly, based of leadership group preferences, Dusty Martin is now the C :o :o, and Joel Selwood is the VC
Can i please move martin down the order.
Goldy treloar selly then dmart.
I never captain dmart
Thank you, TMitch!
Holy flowering shower Mexico!
Darcy Lang a huge let down. Needed everything to go right for us particularly as the away team. Parish + Dea too with bad scores has probably ended us.
It was fun to dream though! :P

Leadership group positions locked in unfortunately :-X
Zahahaha ::)
Seriously though? What are you even doing?
Meanwhile NDT/Moscow have their own massively scoring game
NDT
Assuming Jezza Cameron is HGA
9/605
To come: Howe + Darling + Sidey (x2) + Wallis + Wellingham + Cloke
Moscow
Assuming Ballas is OOP for 42?
9/593
To come: Seedsman + Gray + Armitage + NicNat (x1.5) + Greenwood + Milera

Im amazed we are still competitive,
It's essentially in Steele's hands. If he goes big and Howe performs you guys win. Especially with Ruckmans form against the Dogs so far this season.
Dochers may very well have lost us this one. :(

Frawley replaces Vlastuin and Balla comes on for full points :-X
:)
Beijing & Pacific are having a great match with both captain scoring 130+ :o but with the likes of Laird, Gaff & Bont to come, I think I like the Islanders here.
Buenos Aires... far out. They're doing pretty damn well, and it really is those damn Carlton players of there's that is doing it! Mind you, Tokyo aren't doing bad either, but with Parker going OK and Pendles to come, I think I like the Dillos here.
This is a tense game between the Sands & Wolves! Albeit a low scoring affair, the Wolves correct captain choice had kept them in it despite awful scores from Ruggles & Kreuzer. I think the Sands are just ahead, but will that OOP midfielder cost them the game?
Christchurch... are having a really bad game. Whereas London are having a pretty solid one! An upset is on the cards here! Debutant Jansen did the Royals proud.
In a game where no one wants to win, the Spetsnaz hold a narrow lead and one suspects it will be decided by Captain Sidebum and co-captain Naitanui. I think I only just like the Tigers here.
Mexico City.... holy balls. They're gunning for the record, but I think the Goddard 96 & Cooney 87 will stop them from breaking it. They'll need centuries from all of Broadbent, Ebert, Riewoldt and Betts and for two of them to go silly. Whereas New York are like, stahp (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM8pCle8Dew&feature=youtu.be&t=186)
If only Cape Town had Scott Lang instead of Darcy Lang... then they could take down the might of Stretch. Cape Town are doing well, but the Reindeers have the advantage.
The stakes are just that little bit higher in this match, with a personal bet on the line ;) the Jaguars were going along nicely until Zaharakis just... didn't. I think the Brewers are slightly ahead, but I dunno, I do have Talia, Smith and Masten to come :-X
Dublin has seen better days, but Seoul's forward line has stopped them from challenging. Dublin should win from here.

This isn't true.
I have Beijing going down by 2SC points. Brandon Ellis wtf >:(
At least JJ is a flowering star! 171!
We lost.
Nic Nat you flowering spud.
Just about in love with Lachie Hunter. Is there a better fantasy player than him at 21 years of age?
Good Sunday means we'll put in a very pleasing score but Reindeers have just been too good.
Wow.
We have a 1 SC point victory this week! :o :o

I'd say so, but he can have a howler. We are just yet to see it this season!
BUT Dochers is the best 22yo, and maybe JOM if he gets on the park. ;)
Bont is clearly the Best 20yo, absolute star!
Beijing Thunder (24.7.151) lost to Pacific Islanders (24.8.152*)
*1507 (151) v 1508* (scaled up to 152)
WOW! WOW! What a game! Going into the last game of the round, the Islanders had 3 players left to take on Beijing's 2 and it looked like Pacific just had to simply cruise home. HOWEVER! The RESTED Josh Jenkins blew the game out of the park with a massive 171 (plus a record resting bonus of 18!) to almost SINGLE HANDEDLY hand Beijing an unlikely victory (at the time). What a match. What a high scoring match... I would say MOTY. I highly advise everyone to look at this games scorecard.

And just to extend on that, what a game to show off how far these two teams have come in the last 2 years?!
They were the 3rd and 4th highest scores of the round (very unlucky Beijing). It was Beijing's highest score of the year, and Pacific's second highest. And amazingly, this continues Pacific's undefeated dominance over Beijing too...
MOTY.
Yes, Pacific back in the winners circle. :) Bad luck and good game Beijing.
Samurai give Armadillos Seven
They just cannot be stopped! That's seven in a row now for the Dillos, which is crazy. Their Carlton players really are their secret weapon I feel, and Wagner & Adams continue to prove drafting master-strokes by Vinny. Samurai were certainly not embarrassed though, and haven't been seeing reward for effort of late.

They've done it! The Wolves have posted their first win of the season! WHOOOOOOO! Well done to coach Adamant for notching up his first win :D :D :D
At least for Cairo, Tom Cole wouldn't have made any difference :-X but the fact remains that Cairo continue to offend in playing an OOP midfielder.

Dayum son Suns! A Tom Rockliff (204) inspired performance has seen the Suns approach the 170 barrier for what would have been the third time this year had it not been for Betts & Riewoldt failing to live up to the standard at the end. The Suns ever looked like they might trouble the all time record of 1919 set by Dublin last year :o but they decided to conserve their energies instead. New York... well, they couldn't be expected to whip out another 170+ score against the other 2015 top 2 teams could they? But they still performed admirably.

Reindeers Bring the Rain
I call BS PNL coaches! I have nothing to do with it, so stop using me as a scapegoat for your bad performances :P however, I'm calling it; PNL are well and truly back, and are looking to do damage in finals! It was a spirited performance by Cape Town however, with a score that would have beaten 9 other teams (wow... only 9? Fark, high scoring round hey?). It's obvious though that Billy Stretch proved the difference; something the Reindeers will continue to rely on in the future.

F! That is just bloody annoying that we go down by one fricking SC point! Christo's injury really cost us and Brandon Ellis (usually ultra consistent) was a big let down.
But positives come out of it as well. Highest score for the year which I'm pretty stoked about and it was a masterstroke resting GUN Jenkins last week for his big outing this week.
Pity such a good effort fell to waste only just, but good work Pacific on a well-deserved win. Sure to be the first of many close matchups between our up and coming sides in years to come ;)
Dublin score more than their opponent
Classic Dublin luck that their only emergency that ended up playing AFL scored a century, replacing Lewis Jetta and made is WXVs debut. Otherwise, nothing new to report here... Seoul would be disappointed, but probably would have expected the loss.

Well Played Ele/Rico.

Great game, Beijing! :o
Crazy wasn't it Jay! We had a few stars but just had too many passengers while you guys were much better across the board.
We still had a decent week but JROO's boys way too good.
it continues the mid season revival is real!!
gaining momentum steadily as the season progresses looking to hopefully peak in finals time

Yeah we did alright, but just got Mexico on a crazy week
Our draw gets easier now so hopefully we can push to lock the double chance and finish Top 4

Just about in love with Lachie Hunter. Is there a better fantasy player than him at 21 years of age?
Good Sunday means we'll put in a very pleasing score but Reindeers have just been too good.
I'd say so, but he can have a howler. We are just yet to see it this season!
BUT Dochers is the best 22yo, and maybe JOM if he gets on the park. ;)
Bont is clearly the Best 20yo, absolute star!
depends if you mean that in a player way or fantasy way
since the comments before were fantasy i assume it is
then i feel Zach Merrett is being hard done by as he currently is 20 and averages more then all 3 mentioned :P
so he has an argument for the 20 year old one if you still speaking in fantasy terms
I'm sorry Purple. ;)
That gif is absolutely brilliant though!

Hear the Wolves Howl!

Cairo Sands (16.8.104) lost to Toronto Wolves (20.7.127)
Great stuff Ada, congrats mate ! 8)

The Weits is the best 18 year old. Go my boy weits.
without his injured game and his game came back he has gone 85.
An ugly win is still a win so we'll take it
Especially when literally 90% of our squad have disgusting weekends. We knew it was coming but. So good to get a win and get that weekend over and done with
Bring back the 140+ scores!
