Title: The Matador Cup
Post by: PowerBug on October 04, 2015, 12:20:57 AM
Move over football, it's time for cricket! The Matador Cup is upon us! And it's slightly different this time. A CXI side made up of mostly young players will be put up against the best players in our country as the 7th team. Also with the Bangladesh tour postponed/cancelled, we get our national squad members playing for their states, enhancing the comp.

(Enter shameless advertising plug)
In addition to the comp itself, there is a new fantasy competition being run by yours truly, which follows a similar suit to the XVs games we have for AFL. Called Domestic Sixes, all work for the comp is under the XI Competitions (http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php/board,133.0.html) board. We have 8 teams from the 8 states/territories of this country. The list of all managers and other info like squad lists are available in the Welcome thread (http://forum.fanfooty.com.au/index.php/topic,100309.msg1535166.html#msg1535166).

So SMarsh goes out and Michael Klinger comes in, with Mitch Marsh, Adam Voges, Sam Whiteman still to come... Geez can we just forfeit now?

Yeah, that doesn't look to good. But everyone was expecting them to get flogged, but probably not by that much. Will be interesting to see how they go for the rest of the tournament.

I guess they did have to play a NSW side which had some of our national stars like Smiddy and Starc (ugh, calling Starc a star makes me cringe), so we'll see how they go against a less star studded side.

Poor shot selection. Ludeman and Ferguson dismissals ::)

The Cooper caught behind, and I forgot which guy middled one and was given out LBW, they were just the nail in the coffin.

At least we aren't conceding mass runs yet. I don't know which oval is the slow deck and you only need 220 and which one is the 300+ one though.

Travis Head brings himself on to bowl again. Everyone else is going at under 4.5po and his two overs went for 14. Please Travis, bowl the real guys.

So both Jay and Torp would be wanting wickets here to get their players in.

Good game, got a gripe with the commentators though;

Christian makes a play in the field = ...good play I guess...
Boland makes a play in the field = ...good play I guess...
Handscomb makes a play in the field = ...good play I guess...
Maxwell makes a play in the field = flowering superstar, best fielder in cricket history, basically adds another 5 wickets and saves 50 runs by himself with his fielding, etc.

Every single time.

Sad but true, I barely hear Handscombs name get called during Vic games.

Also Reardon getting the run out which is very nice for my D6s team lol

Happy Stoinis and Handscomb both put together solid innings. Neither has had the greatest Matador Cup so far and they were due. DC's going nuts as well now to close out the innings, 26 off 8 at the time of this post!

We've pretty much set a decent target, gotta bowl well though.

Not necessarily. A close match means SA can overtake the winner if they get a double bonus point victory against the CXI.

I'm hoping for a tie here just so we only need a single bonus point victory ;D

A few things:

- I did not know there was a prelim final between 2nd and 3rd. So the winner of this match is irrelevant as long as we win :)
- Peter Siddle should not be playing like they are saying on TV. Victoria want to win and Peter Siddle is not part of those plans, they shouldn't be forced to play a side that Australia wants.
- Glenn Maxwell has been in poor form this series, Stoinis with his ton basically means Maxwell should not return to the side for the prelim

Dan Worrall bowling around the wicket is pretty funny :P His run-up starts where a normal bowler would be bowling over the wicket. Oh yeah go on cricket.com.au and they stream the game there if you have an account. I don't think that previous line is against m0nty's rules of no streams coz well cricket.com.au is the official cricket website in Australia.

haha very good

not good news in the PM XI they were just saying. 3 early wickets (now 4) - Bancroft, Khawaja, Burns (and Hussey)

Stoinis 50. keep goin boys. I'm outta here. go Vics!

Piss off Stoinis :D Andrewwwwwwws Let's get a run on now. Unfortunately Maxwell can come out and swing so he'll probably connect. If we got Quiney out earlier they'd be 3 down as Maxwell would've needed to knuckle down and play and innings :P

NSW have about 10 players in international selection contention. We have 1 and he doesn't even play for Australia (Tom Cooper), our 1 is doing an alright job so far ;)

Tom Cooper has a better ODI batting average than Steve Smith. (48 vs 38)
#justsaying #IknowheplaysforNatherlands

Who is this Mitchell Starc bloke? Seems to have no idea how to bowl to International superstar Tom Cooper.
