It was reported on one of the radio stations this morning that we have asked Kreuzer in for a medical.

From what I am reading, Kreuzer failed the medical for a couple of clubs, but Collingwood is heavily involved in him.

Apparently the failed medicals are completely untrue.

Ah, well there you go. I read that there could also be a trade involving Witts and Kreuzer so it looks like Collingwood are all over him.

Very very unlikely  :(

Maybe when we show the potential to win a premiership, but until then...

Unless it is Harley Bennell? On field, he is everything the Demons need in my eyes. Fast, can kick goals, can tear apart a game and has that X factor.

QuoteRUCKMAN Mark Jamar’s fine career with Melbourne has come to a close, after 155 AFL games from 2003-15.

Jamar, 32, addressed the players and coaches at AAMI Park on Thursday that his time with Melbourne after more than a decade had come to an end, after the club did not offer him a contract for 2016.

Not surprising.

Well done on a solid career Jamar. I always appreciated your loyalty.

You could say... he's GAWN! :P

I'd absolutely love him!

Our off-field is very stable... even then, do we really care about off-field issues, if it meant we were good on field?

I certainly wouldn't.

Apparently Melbourne has pulled out of the race for Bennell. For what reason, I am not sure. Could be that GC are asking too much? Roos might not want the off-field antics at the club? Who knows.

There are also whispers that Melbourne are heavily into Hamish Hartlett. Could be an interesting addition.

Howe has stated that he has almost sealed a deal to extend his time at the club.

Very interesting points here.

I'm 50/50 about HH, but wouldn't say no to him I suppose. I wouldn't give our first rounder, unless we got theirs as well in something like our first + second for HH + first rounder.

A shame about Harley. But will trust Roos & co. We know how desperate they are to attract talent, so there must be a good reason.

Jeremy Howe... I've felt like he was gonna leave all year. All these reports surprise me... I guess I'm OK with him staying... am I? Nah yeah, I am... I think.

Oh yeah, WHAT IS THE BULL shower ABOUT JAKE MELKSHAM?!

Talent, Roos! You said flowering talent!

What the flower!

Personally I wouldn't want Melksham at the club. I believe Essendon want a second and first round pick for him. Definitely not worth it.

Apparently Tom Bugg is also in talks with the Dees.

It seems as though Melbourne has a good relationship with GWS/GC.

I remember when we were dealing with GWS (we didn't know it was about Tyson at the time), that Bugg & Buntine came up. Maybe we like the guy?

Don't know heaps about him tbh.

I did read it somewhere as being reported by someone (if my memory serves me it was Robbo). I tried to skim through a 14 page thread to link back to it but I couldn't find it.

I did see that there are reports of a 400k 4 year deal for Melksham and his manager has said he will most likely be at either Melbourne or Essendon next year. Goodwin is the man pushing for him from what they say.

I did have a laugh at this post I saw.

QuoteWow so many superstars on the move!

Dangerfield, could leave Adelaide, Bennell getting out of the Gold Coast, Treloar leaving GWS. I wonder what Melbourne will do to make themselves a force during trading season?

Melksham?

Oh okay...

MELBOURNE duo Billy Stretch and Alex Neal-Bullen have agreed to new deals, and Mitch White and Max King have been retained as rookies for 2016.

Stretch and Neal-Bullen, who were initially secured until the end of next season, have both signed a one-year contract extension, meaning they will remain Demons until at least the end of 2017.

Manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said the South Australian pair had shown plenty to like about their game in their first AFL season.

“Alex and Billy have adapted really quickly to the demands of being AFL players,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“Both of them were able to play 11 AFL games in their first year and with a full pre-season leading into next year and the year after, we think they’re going to continue to develop into good AFL players.”

Stretch, the son of former Melbourne star Steven, was claimed as a father/son selection last year. He ended up being selected at No.42 in the NAB AFL Draft â€" two places after his good mate Alex Neal-Bullen, who was chosen at No.40.

Neal-Bullen, who made his AFL debut against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium in round 11, played 11 of Melbourne’s final 12 matches for the season.

Stretch played his first AFL game in round six against the Sydney Swans at the MCG. He missed just two matches from his debut through until round 17, before returning to play the last three rounds of the season.

Mahoney said White and King had both agreed to remain on the club’s rookie list for next season.

“Mitch and Max showed some good signs throughout the year,” he said.

“Mitch worked his way into the AFL team in the last round and didn’t look out of place. Max has always been a long-term project and he continues to develop at Casey.

“They have both accepted additional years on their rookie contracts.”

It will be King’s third season on the rookie list and White’s second year.

King was claimed at No.19 in the 2014 NAB AFL Rookie Draft (held in November 2013) and White was selected at No.20 in the 2015 NAB Rookie Draft (held in November 2014).

White made his AFL debut in the final round of the 2015 season against Greater Western Sydney at Etihad Stadium and impressed down back.

King, a 200cm key forward/ruckman, made impressive strides throughout the year. He started 2015 in the AFL Victoria Development League, before spending the second half of the year in the VFL.

Quote from BigFooty. Now, I know there is a lot of crap on there but I thought this was noteworthy from a Collingwood supporter.

QuoteKnow one of your board members well. Went to an APS school with his son, very good mates.

The Dangerfield talk is true. He said it is in the range of $1.3 - $1.5 million per year. I ask him how would Melbourne pay that, he told me Dawes is being shopped around and most likely will be traded. He reckons Dawes is on $550 k per year and I nearly fell over.

He also believes Howe has told Roos he is leaving unless he shows him the $

Take it with a grain of salt given that SEN is the source, but Howe is allegedly meeting with Collingwood today.

Definitely! Quick and crafty, just hasn't been given opportunities to showcase himself yet. Have always said I'd like Richmond to go after him as I reckon he's that nippy small fwd that the team is lacking at the moment!

Also plays well through the midfield, has been a bit of a ball magnet in the VFL lately. A little bit short but reckon he would be a great pickup 8)

North Melbourne has made a significant bid to lure Melbourne high-flyer Jeremy Howe to the club, according to Channel Seven. It's been reported that senior coach Brad Scott and football boss Geoff Walsh have led the charge to try and get Howe to Arden street.

As reported by AFL.com.au on Friday, Howe's manager Ben Niall said the Demon was considering offers from Gold Coast and two rival Melbourne clubs. Howe is expected to make a decision by the middle of this week.

Not sure how true this is, but;

QuoteWriting live from the trade room where a massive development is occurring. I can exclusively confirm that the Melbourne Football Club is in fact looking to secure the services of injury-plagued key forward John Butcher from Port Adelaide. Talks for the promising forward have been at a stalemate, with Port Adelaide demanding a second round pick and a player (Jack Trengove and Jay Kennedy-Harris were thrown into discussions), with Melbourne believing a second round pick alone would be appropriate.

Until that deal can be resolved, the Power aren't prepared to seriously consider a trade for Melbourne midfielder Jimmy Toumpas.

AFL.com.au understands the Demons would be prepared to accept Port Adelaide's pick No.29 for the 21-year-old, who played 27 games for Melbourne after being selection No.4 at the 2012 NAB AFL Draft.

However Port must wait to see what transpires with Dixon before turning their full attention to the Toumpas deal.

The Demons are still awaiting a decision on utility Jeremy Howe, who is considering offers from the Suns and North Melbourne, and remain hopeful of gaining Essendon's Jake Melksham and Greater Western Sydney defender Tom Bugg.

The Demons' chances of gaining Collingwood's Ben Kennedy have drifted in recent days with the original hopes he may be caught up in a three-way trade involving Melbourne, Collingwood and Port Adelaide dashed.

Kennedy is contracted and the expectations of the Demons and the Magpies are a fair way apart at this stage. Circumstances could change depending on Howe's preferred destination.

AFL.com.au understands the Magpies have not expressed interest in either of Port Adelaide's midfielders Aaron Young or Moore.

North Melbourne midfielder Ryan Bastinac has attracted interest from rival clubs led by the Brisbane Lions and Melbourne, but has yet to request a trade.

Bastinac shaped as one of North's most promising midfielders in his first four seasons at Arden Street, finishing eighth in the Roos' 2012 best and fairest award and sixth in 2013.

However, he struggled to adapt to a more outside role last year and was dropped four times in 2015 before missing North's entire finals campaign.

The 24-year-old is contracted until the end of 2017, so the Lions, Demons and any other interested clubs will have to make North a compelling offer for the midfielder.

Potential Scenario:
Melbourne give: Pick 6 + Pick 25 + Howe
Gold Coast give: Pick 3 + Pick 19

Melbourne give: Toumpas
Port give: Pick 29

Melbourne give: Pick 29
Essendon give: Melksham

Leaves us with: Pick 3 (improved from 6), Pick 19 (improved from 25), Pick 40 (use this on Menegola from WA for example given lack of depth in draft)
Upgrade Vandenberg with a late pick
Gain: Melksham
Lose: Howe and Toumpas

Just had a listen to Terry Wallace and I've basically summarised his thoughts

- inconsistent
- huge positives, hogan, viney, brayshaw, Gawn, Salem etc
- list still lacks depth, is the reason for inconsistency
- Goodwin will begin taking over this year
- percentage improved, but needs to happen more rapidly
- scoring needs to improve
- uncertain on where we will be at end of season
- led by Viney and brayshaw in the future
- sees petracca as a high half forward, moving into the middle
- club needs frost and Oscar to succeed
- needs to recruit/trade in more players who can kick
- forward line a disaster
- hogan, Garlett the only decent forwards, maybe petracca
- curnow won't be there at pick 6
- looking at bugg, Kennedy
- loss of Howe not a big deal
- no doubt that we will improve, but unsure whether we will actually move forward as a club (on the ladder)
- prediction for next year: no movement (I.e. 13th)
- improvement will come in 2017, once Roos has moved on

Another second rounder would probably be the most likely... else, there is another player that hasn't come to surface.

Melbourne;
+ B.Kennedy, Pick 29, Pick 50
- Howe, Toumpas

Collingwood;
+ J.Howe, Pick 68
- Seedsman, Kennedy

Adelaide;
+ Seedsman
- Pick 32

Port Adelaide;
+ Toumpas, Pick 32
- Pick 29, Pick 50, 68

Should have been 2 2nd rounders at least for us.

CONFIRMED TRADE
IN: Ben Kennedy, picks 29+50
OUT: Jeremy Howe (Collingwood),  Jimmy Toumpas (Port Adelaide)

Not exactly excited, but not filthy either

Still indifferent about this year's trade period

Overall its not too bad I think. Not exactly world beating but not too bad...

Delist; Rohan Bail, Jack Fitzpatrick, Aiden Riley, Jordie McKenzie

Out; Jeremy Howe, Jimmy Toumpas, Pick 25
In; Jake Melksham, Ben Kennedy, Pick 29, Pick 50

I'm of the belief that both Melksham and Bennedy are players that will definitely benefit from a fresh start at a new club and moving down the order from 25 to 29 isn't disastrous.

I think the disappointed feeling I have is not necessarily the players that moved in and out of the club, it's just we could have done better, I feel.

Kennedy is solid. I remember back in his draft year he was talked about as a potential mini-draft selection over Brad Crouch for Adelaide. He has some real talent, I hope a fresh start for him will do wonders :)

Was a good highlight package. A little bit of mongrel Viney about him.

His JS though?

Would be ahead of JKH... Garlett is a lock in the best 22, so I imagine Kent and Bennedy would fight it out for a spot? Or would all three be in the team?

I think there is room, although I haven't thought about our best 22 yet. Kennedy might have to start off in the VFL

Regardless, all three can rotate into the midfield, so you'd probably only ever have two of them forward at any time (also an extra spot on the bench next year)

MELBOURNE has secured pick No.7 and hard-at-it utility Tomas Bugg from Greater Western Sydney.

The Demons used selections No.10, No.43 and No.64 to gain No.7 and Bugg on Wednesday afternoon.

It means Melbourne â€" at this stage â€" has four selections in the November NAB AFL Draft (picks No.3, No.7, No.46 and No.50) given it has four vacancies on its primary list.

That could change, with the first list lodgement still to come on October 30.

Along with Bugg, the Demons have acquired Ben Kennedy (Collingwood) and Jake Melksham (Essendon) so far during this year’s trade period.

General manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said the trade improved Melbourne’s standing considerably in the draft.

“This deal further strengthens our drafting position in 2015 and brings in Tomas Bugg, who is a player we targeted during the trade period and someone who can make an immediate impact at AFL level for us next year,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“Bugg is a super competitive midfielder who is an elite runner and plays with an aggressive streak. He fits into our age bracket profile, as he is turns 23 next year and has played 65 games at AFL level for the Giants.

“By bringing in the likes of Bugg, Kennedy and Melksham during the trade period, we have acquired three players who are all competitive in nature, which is a trait we have clearly targeted and will make us a better football team in 2016.”

Bugg, who played 65 matches for the Giants, played all four seasons for the AFL’s newest club. He sits seventh in GWS’ games record holder.

Bugg played in GWS’ first AFL match, notching up 27 disposals against the Sydney Swans in round one, 2012. Only Adam Kennedy (28 touches), had more disposals for the Giants in that match.

In his second last match for GWS, in round 22 this year, Bugg received a Brownlow Medal vote against Carlton for his 22 disposals and two goals at Spotless Stadium.

The 22-year-old joined the Giants as a 17-year-old access selection player in 2011, when the club was allowed to sign up a dozen 17-year-old players born between January 1 and April 30, 1993.

Along with Bugg, the other players selected under that scenario were Jeremy Cameron, Sam Darley, Tim Golds, Josh Growden, Jack Hombsch, Dylan Shiel, Adam Treloar, Gerald Ugle and Nathan Wilson.

Bugg also received a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination in 2012.

For the record, he holds cap No.1 at GWS.

Meanwhile, Melbourne has traded big man Jack Fitzpatrick to Hawthorn and received selection No.94.

Fitzpatrick played 22 matches and kicked 24 goals for the Demons from 2011-15, after being drafted at No.50 in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft.

He was delisted at the end of the 2015 season by Melbourne, but after the Hawks had earmarked him as a delisted free agent, the Demons helped facilitate a trade earlier to ensure his arrival at the Hawks. The Dees won’t use pick No.94 in the draft.

Father, Shaun was just interviewed on SEN and his comments about Joel were:
- Played under 16's football
- Dropped footy to focus on VCE and Basketball
- In the Dees sights for nearly a year.
- Dees liked his athleticism
- Last year he did some trials and kicking with the Dees.
- Being son of a former player appealed
- mfc left it up to Joel to think about it for a year
- with Howe going it provided an opportunity for someone like Joel...he alluded to maybe taking high marks like Howe
- Joel is 6.3" and Shaun sees him as a forward, has endurance and a tank.

JAMES Harmes will be upgraded to Melbourne's senior list in 2016 after agreeing to terms with the Demons to extend his contract by one year.

Harmes broke through in 2015 to play eight of the final nine games after making his debut in round 15.

The 20-year-old kicked two goals in the final game of the season in the Demons' win over Greater Western Sydney, matched up early on Heath Shaw, and impressed throughout with his attack on the ball.

Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said Harmes showed he was comfortable at AFL level by season's end and he shaped as a good prospect.

"He provides us with some flexibility. He has the attributes to play through the midfield but also his marking ability makes him a dangerous option as a forward," Mahoney told AFL.com.au

"He plays a style we want to play. He is hard at the ball and competitive."

After being rookie listed in 2014, Harmes had to overcome a punctured lung suffered midway through his first season to string together a series of consistent performances.

Noted for his aggressive style, Harmes grew up barracking for the Demons and played for the Dandenong Stingrays in the TAC Cup.

He averaged 11 disposals and three tackles in his eight games, with an even split between contested and uncontested possessions.

Meanwhile, Jayden Hunt has also been given a one-year contract for 2016.

Hunt, who has yet to make his AFL debut, has battled injuries in his first two seasons.

But the 20-year-old has displayed genuine promise as a dashing utility when he has played for Casey, particularly in a patch of matches in the latter part of 2015.

Mahoney told the club's website Hunt had earned his spot on the list for next year.

"Jayden had an interrupted start to his AFL career, suffering medium to long-term injuries in both years," Mahoney said.

"His form at VFL level over a block of four to six weeks this year showed us that he's got capabilities to become an AFL player.

"He deserves an extra year on the primary list."

Hunt was selected at No.57 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.

Melbourne had a successful trade period recruiting Essendon's Jake Melksham, Collingwood's Ben Kennedy and Greater Western Sydney's Tomas Bugg as well as moving up the draft order to take picks No.3 and No.7 into the draft.

I'm just guessing, but I'd wager Melbourne wanted to retain him on the Rookie list, and Harmesy wanted a senior spot. Kinda makes sense seeing as he was given 1 year? If Melbourne wanted him on the senior list, I imagine the contract would at least be 2 years?

Still holding out hope we pay Terlich out and get a delisted free agent. Matty Wright or even Jarrad Grant offer more than what he would.

Hmm yeh I guess that could be it

Not sure paying out Terlich is the right call. Yeh he probably won't play another AFL game, but I just feel like if we want players to honour their contracts, then we should honour the players' contracts. Also, paying out contracts isn't exactly cheap - I wouldn't want to make it a habit.

We still need to delist someone if we want to use pick 50, so even if we did drop Terlich we still wouldn't be able to pick up a DFA. Do you reckon Michie is on the chopping block?

Actually didn't know we had to delist someone to make room for Pick 50!

Michie is out of contract apparently, so I do think he will get the chop  :-\ Pick 50 should turn into Pick 37ish anyway (with academy points), so it is not as bad a pick as it sounds.

I was wondering if this would happen... good decision IMO. I'm willing to give him a shot on the rookie list.

Makes me wonder if we will use Pick 50 or pick up a DFA...

God I hope Weideman isn't a dud. Played so little footy this year...

And was Hulett really worth delisting Viv Michie for? Just looks like another Leigh Williams to me. I suppose time will tell.

Feel the same about Weideman. Realistically though, we don't have an early pick in next year's draft, and we will hopefully be moving up the ladder in the next few (and the time to develop them also gets shorter). If we want a partner for Jesse, they needed to be drafted now.

King x2 and Hulett will hopefully provide some decent insurance

Think you boys just need to have a bit of faith in Weideman developing nicely to be Jesse's partner in crime. They've got serious potential to be a lethal duo.

The new twin towers. Forget about Tippet/Buddy or Darling/Kennedy.

It's Weideman/Hogan time.

I think you can understand why Melbourne supporters don't have faith in their high draft picks  :-X

Haha. I'm pretty skeptical on ours this year. So yes, I know the feel.

NATHAN Jones has been retained as Melbourne captain for the 2016 season.

It will be the third year Jones has led the club and the second season he has been sole skipper, after sharing the duties with Jack Grimes in 2013.

After being appointed captain for the 2015 season, Jones’ leadership grew as the year progressed.

He showed plenty of courage to play throughout 2015, after he carried a serious neck injury during the season.

Jones had an operation on his neck in the off-season, but is making a strong recovery towards the 2016 season.

The 27-year-old has played 201 matches for Melbourne since making his AFL debut in round 17, 2006 against the Western Bulldogs at the MCG.

He has become one of Melbourne’s finest players of the modern era, notching up his 200th match against Fremantle at Domain Stadium in round 22, 2015.

Jones has won three best and fairest awards for the club â€" all in succession from 2012-14 â€" and also finished second in 2007.

Mine is pretty much the same, but I'd have Grimes into the want/keep group for me.
