There are lots of interesting games for the first round of finals, should be some good battles.
QF1: 1st Qualifying Final
1st - Arizona Scorpions
Arizona have won the Minor Premiership but will count themselves lucky as the results were favourable to them in the later rounds of the h&a season. Having battled with injury in the backline this will be their main problem going into the finals and the loss of their captain for the season will not help. Arizona have a very young team and will need to show maturity in a what will be a hard fought match. Having the home ground advantage in this game will help and they will need all the help they can get. Last time they played each other was round 8 (Hawaii 1778 defeated Arizona (H) 1586).
4th - Hawaii Hydro Bombs
Hawaii will go into this game feeling confident having won the last encounter and have scored more points than Arizona over the season. Hawaii should have scored a lot more points over the season but with some poor decisions during the year costing them. The loss of their No 1 ruckman has seen them faulter recently and will need the replacement to score well if they are to win. Hawaii have a lot of quality players and if the majority perform on the day they should get the win. Playing away from home will not help.
EF1: 1st Elimination Final
5th - El Paso Alpacas
El Paso go into this game as the favourites having scored 1300 more points for the season. Having the home ground advantage is also a big help. Alpacans will be relying on (USA vs All Stars MVP) Todd Goldstein to guide them through the game. El Paso have won their last 4 matches and have timed their run well. Last time they played each other was round 8 (El Paso (H) 1657 defeated Vancouver 1571).
8th - Vancouver Cockerels
Vancouver has had a tough year with some poor results early resulting in the sacking of their coach. Since the sacking new manager/coach PSK has turned the team around and built up morale to see the Cocks fight their way into the final 8. Vancouver have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Vancouver will be hoping valuable player Nat Fyfe is available for this game.
EF2: 2nd Elimination Final
6th - Los Angeles Kings
Los Angeles have had a tough year due to injury and suspensions (Franklin,Tippett) but have finished in a respectable 6th position. The Kings have lost Vice Captain Jobe Watson and ruckman Matthew Leuenberger recently and will struggle without them. Kings go into this game with home ground advantage and they will need it. Last time they played each other was in round 6 (Los Angeles 1700 defeated Calgary (H) 1471). LA will be hoping star player Buddy Franklin gets over his back injury and makes the team.
7th - Calgary Fireflies
Calgary have also had some injury problems during the season losing valuable players Tom Rockliff (on 2 occasions with broken ribs) and Levi Greenwood amongst others. Calgary have finished in 7th position which is a shock to most but as stated injury to key players has not helped. They go into this game as favourites after beating Hawaii last week and will have them full of confidence. Calgary have scored the 6th most points for the season despite their injury troubles and will be hoping 2014 Koop Medal winner (Tom Rockliff) has a big game. Calgary were runners up in 2014 and were the Eliminator champions, the team has changed in the off-season but they are still premiership challengers.
QF2: 2nd Qualifying Final
2nd - Nicaragua Survivors
Nicaragua were seen by many as the team to beat this year and finished runners up in the minor premiership. Nicaragua despite playing the reigning premiers Roswell go into this game as favourites with the home ground advantage. Nicaragua have scored the most points this season (28434) - (444) points more than any other team. Nicaragua might find it tough to win without key ruckman (Billy Longer) injured and (Will Minson) battling poor form, time will tell if they make the team. Last time Nicaragua played against Roswell was round 8 (Roswell (H) 1884 defeated Nicaragua 1734)
3rd - Roswell Aliens
Roswell undoubtedly the unluckiest team in the comp losing the minor premiership due to a shock loss to bottom of the ladder Bolivia in round 17. Roswell lost the game due to the knee injury suffered by Gary Ablett (2014 Koop Medalist) he only scored 22 points and destroyed not only captain bonus points but also home ground advantage, they lost by only 7 points. Ablett was a loss to Roswell throughout the season with the shoulder injury and the knee injury that then ended his season. All of this badluck has resulted in Roswell losing home ground advantage and having to play the in form team of the competition first game of the finals. Despite all of this Roswell will go into this game knowing they can get the job done as they are the reigning premiers of 2014.

hmm I think according to rules Newnes being a mid as well as a defender moves to mids and Touhy moves to interchange as first named interchange player not that it matters much.
I only ever replace a non playing player with a utility if the interchange cant fill the spot. Could be another grey area ?

Nah I thought that was there rule as we discussed and it's what I having be following with my team all year also Cross is a mid anyway so would move to mids and Touhy would still come on regardless.
This is why I name who I think will score the best as first interchange
I actually just looked at our rules and it's actually in there haha
Nah what i mean is .. i always thought the correct interchange position covers a loss unless you cant because that interchange position didn't play then if that happened you use one of your utilities to replace the missing player then first named interchange replaces the utility.
Not sure now this shower is doing my head in ;D... so are we supposed to be replacing a missing player with a utility unless you cant... then you replace the missing player with the correct interchange and then if you cant do that either its first named interchange OOP ? not sure why we name interchange positions if we go this way ?
Its simple if a utility is say a mid and a mid is out they move to mids and first named interchange comes in always first named in utilities that moves to cover the position first.
You still need to name each interchange with positions because a lot of teams run mids as utilities. So in that case the named defender E replaces the defender
This is why we haven't named a ruck E at all for the last few weeks because Maric has been playing as a utility and if Big Boy was out he would replace him and then I think it was Suckling this week who would move to utility to replace Maric.
That's why i don't play a ruck emerg that starts ... so i get Grundy points if Jacobs misses.
I think its a waste of time naming interchange positions if you don't use them.
We may aswell just have a 4 player interchange, if a player doesn't play then the utility replaces them, if the utilities cant replace them then the first named interchange replaces them for half points unless its a utility then you get full points.
I agree naming positions of utilities is helpful when it comes to using them as replacements in certain scenarios.
But you still have to name the position regardless, you might have a DPP named on interchange you need to name what position they are covering.
If I have all mids as my utilities and a defender is a late out then my named defender on interchange covers them.
You don't actually have to name the positions of the utilities.
This is how it happens in the all comps, you had a team once in BXV and that is exactly what happens there as well.
I know you don't have to name the positions of utilities i can just see how it would be helpful if i didn't know the correct positions regarding DPP. Agree you need to name bench for DPP purposes, jumped the gun on that.
Im just trying to get my head round the rule, if i don't know whats going on were screwed ;D
Okay think i got it ;)
A utility replaces a missing player where possible, if the utility cannot replace the missing player then the correct named position on the interchange bench replaces the missing player, if you don't have the correct position on your interchange then first named interchange OOP replaces the missing player.
Thoughts ?
I figured a Midfielder didn't play so i would replace him with the Midfielder on the bench?
Makes sense to me :)
Yes that's it haha
I've been doing it all year when replacing outs, nobody questioned it and have advised others when they've asked the same thing.
So you can play Grundy if you wish as a utility and he would still cover Jacobs if needed.
It's all strategy again when naming your team trying to get the best possible scorers on field especially when you get hit with injuries.
I need a nice strong bourbon ...maybe that's the problem :-X ;D
