YOU CAN SELECT FOUR EMERGENCIES THIS WEEK
Buenos Aires would be thrilled at last weeks triumph over Cairo, and even more so of its young midfield whom provided the winning grunt to get their highest score of the year, which outscored the Jaguars score last week by 125 points. That alone would give some belief to this Armadillo outfit that they can notch up yet another win if everything goes to plan, and would all but guarantee themselves in avoiding the spoon, if they haven't done so already. Rio faced the brunt of a vicious Suns outfit last week and put up a very sub-standard score at the same time. They will be looking to rebound this week to keep any finals chance alive. I will back the Jaguars, as much as I kinda want Buenos Aires to win.
Cairo have a right to be miffed last week at losing to Buenos Aires, whom if they had played them at ANY other week this year, they would have won comfortably. Instead, Buenos Aires scored 22 (WXV) points above their season average to down a Cairo outfit that has just seen no light or luck since Round 1 this season. Then, to make matters worse... they now face Dublin. Oh dear. Dublin re-affirmed their dominance last week in convincingly beating the highest scoring team outside themselves in Berlin last week, and would always welcome a percentage boost. Perhaps it's a good time to rest Joel Selwood? Dublin will win this match.
The Cobras are coming! After a nightmare start to the season that got as bad as 1-4, the Cobras have since won 4 matches in a row including crucial match-ups against like-teams Tokyo and Pacific. In this 4-week patch, the Cobras have averaged 100 points more than their opening 5 matches, as they start to get selections right. Beijing, also on 5-4, have hit a bit of a wall in the past 2 games, just scoring 130 and 129 in matches that proved good character defining moments. Have the Thunder clouds begun the dissipate? Either way, a win here would be monumental for the Thunder's season, because if they were 6-4, 4 more wins would likely get them a place in the finals, 2 of them should come from Seoul and New Delhi, but the rest of their opponents on are level pegging terms or are stronger than they. Hence, this is why I'm calling this match for the Thunder as season-defining; lose, and miss out, or win and go on to glory. But, I'm gonna go with the Cobras.
Christchurch have been (most of the time) a picture of classy consistency this year, with two scores below 140, 6 inbetween 140-149, and one 150+, which came last week against the Islanders. As such, the Saints sit 2nd on the ladder and 6th on points, and have well and truly asserted themselves in a place in the finals, barring a disaster. This week though, could represent a danger game led by Danger itself in the Seoul Magpies, who went BOOM last week (and I so called it) with 146; a score that would have beaten Christchurch every week so far this year except last. It's really a question on whether Seoul's young hence inconsistent gun midfield will all fire at once, and whether Dangerfield is Captain, that will determine whether Seoul can beat the best. But, I'm gonna back consistently good over sometimes great, and Christchurch will get it done.
And it remains to be so, that London are the team that rise and fall according to their opposition (I've said that from the start this year), demonstrated no better by its last two weeks where it beat the biggest giant of them all in Dublin, only to then lose against bottom 5 team Seoul the following week. The good thing about this reputation however, is that they rise to the good teams, and hence will fancy themselves a good chance to knock over the Revolution which; despite the absence of their midfield stars, scored their highest score of the year last week in 153. New York would be over the moon about that too, perhaps proving in the process that they have the best bookends behind Dublin in the competition? However, I'm not confident that they will fire every week like they did last week, whereas the midfield at London has the firepower to knock them down. I'm actually gonna back London this week, with doubts at New York's consistency at this level without their midfield stars.
477 points in 3 weeks, the Suns have scored. I'd wager that would be the highest in the past 3 weeks and hence are the form team in the competition at the moment. So of course I have to play them now, and not a month ago. But whatever, I suppose. Berlin got a good smack from Dublin last week, but weren't shamed in the process with the standard 142 produced. But Berlin knows that the standard won't get it done against either Dublin, PNL or Mexico City, and need to announce to the competition that they are indeed a powerhouse, and not just a team that whines about scoring high scores and still gets beaten. Berlin scored 169 two weeks ago, which has surpassed that of any score Mexico City has produced this year, so that is the mark required. Can Berlin produce when needed? So far this season says no, and I also think no this week, so I reckon Mexico City will get it done, and make my season very hard to resurrect at 4-6.
New Delhi have fielded a traditional XV in the past few weeks, which are signs of inevitable improvement as it waits for its better players to come back from injury. They also fielded a Mumbai team for the 3rd time this year last week, so they're slowly making inroads. It's just a shame that this MUCH improved Moscow outfit have the thirst for blood, with brutally good consistency over the past month with scores reading as 148, 149, 152 and 153. Moscow have arrived and put my early season doubts about them to rest, and would be looking at a top 4 spot eventually, should they keep this form up. But, as good form warrants, I'm now making sure the spotlight is firmly on you, Moscow, so how will you respond? Well, with a win this week I suppose. In the meantime, I'm challenging New Delhi to hit the 120 mark in this match, because that score is the minimum required to steal a win, and you just never know.
Tokyo have struggled in the past 3 weeks; failing to surpass 140 in that time and as a result have gone 1-2. But, the teams they have lost to aren't exactly pushovers either (Christchurch, Dublin, Berlin and Cape Town), whilst also having big scalps of Mexico City, Toronto and London. I think there is no real pattern or correlation to their wins and their opponents, other than scoring well gives you the best chance at winning. They will most certainly have to score well this week against the 7-2 Reindeers, whom are 1 point away from being the second highest scoring team of the year (ha-ha :P). With only one week period of the year in Rounds 2 and 3, the Reindeers haven't scored less than 144 since that time, and are deserving top 4 aspirants. This form is just too good to tip against, so I will back the blood thirsty Reindeers... who says Reindeers aren't scary?
This is most certainly my MATCH OF THE ROUND! In the red corner, we have a team that responds to any spotlight with "Oh it's too bright, the light will give me sunburn" in Toronto, whom after a dazzling first 6 rounds and were once the second highest scoring team, have crumbled in the past 3 weeks with scores of 121, 138 and 129 to now be 8th on the points ladder. Although the 2 teams that they lost to in this time went big, that doesn't excuse the fall in their points output, which ultimately has led me to resent them for taking my heart in the first place :'(. In the blue corner, we have a team that has boasted its improvement to the world, only to lose the past three matches against teams that actually aren't in the bottom 5. I say this, because Pacific have only... me... as their biggest scalp, with their other wins coming against Rio, Cairo and Buenos Aires. This is my match of the round, because the ramifications for either team that loses is pretty major, so hence the stakes are high. Although finals will still be on the cards for both teams, it's just gonna make life all that little bit harder. Who's going to win? Well, despite Pacific scoring higher in the past 3 weeks, I'm going to back Toronto to win on HGA alone!
With Darling and Mullett close to a return we'll be much improved over the next few weeks.
Just to re-iterate and in case you glazed over it
FOUR EMERGENCIES THIS WEEK
Also, I have an exam this weekend :( then going to North v West Coast in Hobart, and also have the family coming down for a visit, so I might not be around as much to give updates and such.
And then I have an exam on Tuesday morning, so I'm not sure I will do the match write-ups on Monday night, but we will see how we go.
Can we just forfeit and rest our whole team for next week where we actually stand a chance?
Continue to astound me with your write ups Purps

Rookie mistake JROO, queue a Holz rave :-X
Since you asked
He was drafted in the 2013 Rookie Draft with the Gold Coast Academy selection at pick 56. He played 8 games that year mainly in the vest. In his last two full games of football that year he kicked 7 goals straight.
In 2014 he was hit with injury, Boston dislocated his right ankle, rupturing ligaments and requiring surgery.
As he was training in a bid to make a late-season comeback, he sustained a lateral strain in his left ankle to complete the miserable year.
The Suns/Destroyers believe highly of the creative half-forward and elevated him to the senior list after two years as a rookie. Boston played eight games in 2013 and has a deadly accurate right boot that makes him arguably the club’s best set-shot for goal. He was the first player in the history of the draft to register a perfect score in the goal kicking contest.
on the weekend he racked up 14 kicks, with half of his possessions contested and knocked up 5 tackles and 5 clearances.
He plays for Gold Coast, likely injured this week

No Douglas leaves me very disappointed and in a tricky situation as I now have to pick 2 of the unreliable trio up forward, rather than just taking the risk on one like I had hoped. Have taken the risk on Pedo as he has been really good the last 3 weeks, and Henderson has been terrible this year. Robbo has been slightly better and may be ok against GWS this week
Big congratulations goes to Rhyce Shaw who secures the vice captaincy after his first instance of not being shower last week :P
Sigh, really? Both Daisy and Dixon out this week. And Fletcher too.
What, evah.
We are down to 20 named players this week - 18 senior and 2 rookies. Don't need anymore injuries or we'll start to be in trouble.
Got 6 players on 7-man benches, so this could change.

Haha yeah, not so much luck this year.
I've been trying to say that our list/best XV honestly isn't all that bad (especially for a young team, because apparently age range is all the rage these days :P), but injuries have kicked us in the balls, knifed us through the heart and then curb stomped us.

A bit difficult for us this week with that F4 position giving some headaches - and two of the blokes that we could play there are on the extended interchange for the Pies on Monday! Pretty confident one or both of them will get a run this week though, and if not Matty Kreuzer might come in for his first game of the year (although I'm wary of a red vest for him). Hopefully the four-man interchange will give us cover if anything goes drastically wrong this week though :P

Pwoah, looking into it and he does pretty well :o. But so does another guy at 118.4, so it's a tough call if we go CC or full Captaincy :P. Shiel isn't too shabby either but small sample :P.

Good to see yet another AFL debutant in Toby McLean (Jamie Elliott 2.0) this week. Jack Steele will probably miss out on making the 22 and continue to be Tom Mitchelled in the NEAFL.

I think we all may be forgetting about big bad Cam Pedersen here
I'll just LOL if Stevie J is a late out on top of all the other prems we have out
Was going to rest Dys against NDT, but figured I shouldn't mess with form so I'll leave him in, need to keep up this 145+ streak haha, sorry ele/rico
Hopefully we don't lose by 10 (SC) points next week.

You must rate his potential very very high than as being a 108 forward is pretty dam good.

thats alright he was injured.
players typically get less injury prone as they get older.
your man Gray at the same age wasn't too flash.
they cant all be like martin and pump out 100+ playing 20+ games each year.
Berlin a chance
Lids average as CC
Johnson subbed - on comes Oxley
Robinson starting as sub - most likely on comes Kamdyn who was very average
CEY subbed off who was average

Team submission stuff:
@Dublin, you actually didn't name a ruck lol. Not 100% sure on the protocol (waiting on ossie to confirm), but my assumption would be to check your list preferences and name the first player available not named currently, which funnily enough is Goldstein. Again, I may be wrong, so just waiting on confirmation.
@Cairo, no VC named. On preferences, it's now Brodie Smith.
@Seoul, no E4 named. On preferences, Nelson was the first available, so he is your E4.
@New York, no E4 named. On preferences, Crozier was the first available, so he is your E4.
@New Delhi, no E4 named. On preferences, you have no players available, but one AFL emergency in Tom Curren. So he is your E4.
@Toronto, no E4 named. On preferences, Morris was the first available, so he is your E4
Players rested this week (tell me if I have missed any):
Aaron Sandilands (Christchurch)
Shaun Grigg (Mexico City)
Jack Billings (PNL)
Rory Sloane (Dublin)
Players receiving rest bonus this week (tell me if I have missed any):
Corey Ellis (Buenos Aires)
Tom Scully (Christchurch)
Mathew Stokes (Mexico City)
Jack Viney (Berlin)
Patrick Ambrose (Tokyo)
Cyril Rioli (PNL)

watch out Gray, Martin is coming for you.
Martin 109.3
Gray 116.7
Martin has played all 10 too.
Things aren't looking horrible for me either in my match up with the suns... Ebert ruined the party somewhat.
But then I looked at my remaining players ::)
Time to start playing Jordy Roughead over McKenzie

Haha nah, you're going alright mate. Will come right down to the wire.
Also, you have BJ as my CC, it should be Lewis.

Ah, you are correct. My apologies. That was a nice few minutes there, of me thinking you flowered up your captain choices :P
Always keep me on my toes people, although I am awesome, I do make mistakes :P
Geez our team sure did pick a good week to completely shower the bed

647/7. Not too shabby, and forwards haven't been completely failing, just wrong call on who to play really with Westy showing his skills for Marseilles this round. Nice to see Kav also putting on a fine performance in the Reserves.
Wines outstanding again :D

It's a tough order but we are not out of it.
Sad to see Judd go down... Been good for Tokyo and that is probably his last game...

You are? Yeah seems fair....

Doing well, go team!
Finally jelly you did something
746 apiece for Cape Town vs Beijing! I think CT still have an extra player to come though so it will be tough.
Just like my SC team can not take a trick. McVeigh produces this after I take the CC off. Would be an easy win if I left CC on Hanners and McVeigh,

If you truly were feeling this, you'd have played your reserves and given us a chance. :P

Not quite. I think Purps may have made a bit of an error up there by not counting Hooker, Thurlow or Caddy's scores. You're waaay in front Toges.
Wines vs JPK was the turning point; lost us 124 points :(
Oh yeah, must have glazed over Beijing.
It all gets counted in the end 8)

i'm very respectful i always put effort in no matter who i'm playing. I hate when teams just put theirs 2s in against the bottom teams. I'm talking sport generally not worlds.

I'd hardly call it not taking a trick. Your 3 Swans all pumped out monsters and you're in the box seat for sure

Thanks for checking Chumps! I didn't bother adding up :P. Wines vs JPK definitely gives us a leg-up.
Today was a good day for Berlin I think. Think I'm a chance!

I think it was also a good day for Cairo, too bad it doesn't matter!

Diaster for us with Lewis, can you change it back to BJ CC? :P
You're in the box seat I reckon, but you've got a few Dees left :P

We've still got Grundy and Broomhead to come tomorrow while Cape Town have had all players play already. Difference is 58 points as it stands. Definitely backing our boys to get it done from here, and if Broomy is sub like he has been the last few games then James Stewart's 64 comes on instead which would mean game over before the bounce tomorrow!
Savage was sub today but none of CT's emergencies were defenders - so am I correct in saying that his score stands?

Gary Rohan is a defender, so he will come on :)
So, some teams have finished, others in a tight tussle, and some still with some players to go... Go me!

Didn't realise that Rohan was a defender! Will make about 26 points difference then!
Kennedy didn't end up making the team so (assuming no late outs for the Pies) Kreuzer's 79 comes on, leaving us on 1231, 91 points behind the Cobras with Grundy & Broomy still to play.

Close... and no certainty to win. Just very, very likely ;)
Also JROO, you better hope Watts or Viney won't be the sub tomorrow, coz I'm itching for Lonergan's 117 to come on the field :P
Haha by no means am I locking in a win yet mate, never know what might happen! Just wanted to have a look at who we've got playing tomorrow.
I'd back Broomy & Grundy to get there but Broomy can have a quiet game here or there... If he's sub though I'll take Stewart's 64 as money in the bank :P
Also!
Say if Jesse White gets a regulatory 60 tomorrow, that would mean that Moscow's Dunn, Seedsman and Hulk would have to get a dangerous 172 points to win!
New Delhi a chance?!?!?!
:o NDT definitely in it! Good to see!
Looks like our second or third best score for the year and it seems enough to beat several teams this week, but we're playing Dublin. :(
Can I get compo for the precise factor of bullshower?
Two teams give their best performance of the season BY FAR against us
We don't get enough points we lose, we get enough points we're losers anyway
Hoges will get 172 by himself. :P

They better not! You're the Melbourne supporter here, are they a chance?
Gonna be pretty tough to win it from here, for us, Berlin haven't had a bad score so far!
Hi purps!
Think you've subbed out Judd incorrectly.... can only sub players out for a player in that position... and since no ruck available...

Watts is a genuine chance I reckon. Viney was last week, but think that was just easing him into it. I highly doubt Viney will be again.
But, out of the bench options... M.Jones is the biggest chance IMO :-\
I'm a little amused about how good my forward line was this week, given I had no Dixon or Daisy :P Hell, even Geary getting 89 (to eventually replace Grimes) was a little lucky, and Cheney's 76.
Something is bound to go wrong :-X
Tom Nicholls is starting to find some unreal form for NDT
114, 99, 107, 113 in last 4
So we're up by 58 with Cloke vs LOLmumba to go?
This would be a big win for us if we can hold from here

2 spuds v each other ;D So the one that spuds the most will lose it for one of us.
Seriously though will be incredibly close as you advantage will reduce by 33 if Lumumba scores more than 49 which may be doubtful due to my HGA. may be enough to get me home but I would rather be in your position.
flowers sake Hickey not again :(
Will need 140+ from Pendles and the others to also go big
Also, I won't be writing the match reviews up tonight, because I got a exam I need to study for that's at 9am tomorrow :-\ which means I will probably get them up tomorrow afternoon.
I MIGHT get the scorecards up though tonight, at least.
M.Jones the sub, thankfully. You were right Purps ;D
Final teams in, and Ben Kennedy a late replacement for Witts! Starts as sub though, so I would still assume that Kreuzer's 79 will come on for him.
It's only early but Cloke is tearing Melbourne a new one.

Who would have thought he could step up and lead us to victory? Keeping going Chokey!
With Witts out and HGA of 21 I have it as
Pendles (x2) + Crisp + Pedo
vs
Howe + Fasolo + Blair + 163
I felt I was an outside chance until Howe and Blair tore it apart in the first time and Pedo hasnt touched the ball yet :( Hendo's 112 would be handy right about now
Sidney and Ox don't want to go near it
Purps is home even though his Melbourne boys aren't doing too much.

Oxley had a really good quarter :(
Blair a bit proppy with an ankle injury... Please don't get subbed until after HT! I want Kreuzer's score!
Grundy and Broomy getting a bit of it, not setting the world on fire though :-X

Yeah that was unexpected!
How did you pick Fitzy over Gawn :o
Feeling pretty good about my chances at victory.
Using the scores from SC paige, I'm currently 8 points ahead, with Garland, Cross, Gawn, Watts and Viney taking on Oxley and Sidebum.
This win will be huge for me, if my demons don't choke :-X

I thought it was, I added in your HGA. But anyway, this is what it is now, assuming your HGA of 33 stands:
New Delhi: 1297 with Jesse White
Moscow: 1258 with Hogan, Seedsman and Dunn
Gosh, that's close. But Moscow still with the advantage
EDIT: That's with the half time scores included in that total
Anyone know what G(r)undy and Broomy are on at HT? :)

(Kennedy still not activated after HT so Kreuz will officially come on in his place)

fyi even if Kennedy came on in the first minute Kreuz would've come on
Just to clarify cos this always seems to confuse me :P
If someone is subbed off before or AT halftime, they are replaced? And if they start as sub, and are subbed on at HT or after they are replaced?

Without knowing their current SC scores, this is going to be close. Slow down Pendles.
Hahahaha Toges. At least you get Kruez's score ;). But New Dehli + Beijing + Berlin all in with the chance to cause major upsets. Imagine putting a multi for that to happen :P.
Nate Jones + Marley putting in a great effort to top off our weekend :D.
Once my fury subsides, I will be happy about beating Mexico City by about 120 points.
So 91 vs Grundy (106) + Broomhead (32) means that we should get up by 47 SC points I think!
Lucky Grundy had a very good game, as Broomhead was pretty average. Good win from the boys though! 8)
Getting seriously bloody sick of losing...especially considering off my calculations, playing Hendo over Pedo probably would have either won me the game or gotten it a lot closer :(
Dublin next week I believe too

Yeah well I have probably fallen short of 130 yet again so should be a really tight game :-[

Oh wow, Moscow won by 16 points :'(
Jesse White only registered 39 :'(
So, just putting it out there, that I would have beaten Dublin this week.
That means, I played NDT, and if I played Dublin, would have won.
Proceed to play Dublin, and lose.
Then play Mexico City, and post a score that would again have beaten Dublin.
Consider yourself lucky Holz :P
So, here are the final scorecards... will do match write-ups tomorrow, after my exam :'(

Coach of the round! :D
Am looking forward to gaining Crouch, Daisy, Dixon, Fletcher and Langford back next week >:D
ah flower off White
No Rocky No Suns :'(
Finally starting to get a few solid wins on the board. Scoring close to 1500 with 5 of our best out is great :)
Really harsh for New Delhi
Great fighting win by the boys :D
Poor old NDT! So close guys :(
We outscored 6 other teams this week, including Cape Town by a point. :o

I consider you lucky twice.
its ok im resting up. If i played Sloane i would have beaten you. I also have NDS and Birchall on the sidelines so thats 3 guns to come back. You have crouch and a bunch of spuds.
If you can make it through to me in the finals than we can talk.
It is surely mathematically impossible for the same team to give up 130 to NDT and 148 to Cairo this season
Like you gotta be really unlucky to do this...suspiciously unlucky...
If we didn't win I'd tank the rest of the season outta shame :P

Jaguars clean teeth with Armadillo Shell
And BOOM comes the response! The Jaguars were served by every player this week, which is scary, because they are still to welcome back Ablett yet! Rio's highest of the year unfortunately came against an opponent whom didn't have a centurion and would have fancied themselves a slight chance pre-game. The Dillos already looking to next week.

Dublin push aside Cairo
... but Cairo weren't disgraced. Funny what the return of Pearce Hanley does, he makes Cairo look pretty competitive all of a sudden, and to think with Prestia waiting on the wings, then really Cairo aren't the team they have looked like this year. The Sands were never given a chance, so this performance was admirable. Dublin... oh who cares.

Cobras retreat from Thunder
This was a crucial game for the Thunder, and I really doubted whether they could do it, but they did, an in the process really gives their finals hopes a shot in the arm. The run of Cape Town has now stopped, and would be bitter about this loss. Will be interesting to see how they respond next week.

A regulation performance from both teams, leading to the expected result. Despite Seoul having more centurions, it was the Saints' all round competitiveness that again shows through to get the win. The Saints post their 7th score in the 140s this year.

Berlin Hulk a vital win at Mexico City
This one makes me happy! Berlin really needed this win, otherwise they would have been sitting 4-6 with plenty of losable matches to come. All of Berlin's midfielders scored centuries, and 3 players in a depleted forward line also posted centuries to get Berlin well and truly over the line. Mexico City were let down by usual a host of usual stars, and would be disappointed by the result which makes their top 4 claim harder to reach. But their reputation remains unhindered as a genuine premiership threat.

Heartbreak as New Delhi fall short against Moscow
Ugh, right in the feels. New Delhi, led by trustworthy midfield duo Gaff and Coniglio, and an inspired performance by Koby Stevems, lost by a painful 16 points. The Tigers had an incredible 4 players fail to surpass 40 points, which makes the performance from the other 11 very impressive, and if the Tigers had more room for choice, probably wouldn't play another game this year, such is their failure to perform when needed. Moscow, boy howdy, would be so damn relieved they escaped with a win, coz a loss here would have been catastrophic.

Still, every match presents an opportunity to fall back a step, so it's important they keep performing. Funnily enough, this is the third time the Samurai have scored 119 this year... and are starting to fall behind the pack.

Islanders hunt down Wolves
This was also a great game, and just a darn right important result for the Islanders, and a really bad one for the Wolves. Both teams are now 5-5, and now are finals challengers, which, for Toronto, is disappointing as they were seen as certainties not too long ago. The Wolves just gotta respond, and soon.

Go Thunder! Pretty consistent performance across the board except for Eddie Betts and Timmy Broomhead who were both average. But a win is a win! Good result against a team that will be challenging for finals 8)
