Title: Round 1 - Lions v Pies - Saturday 4th April - Gabba
Post by: Ringo on March 28, 2015, 05:52:42 PM
Lions with new recruits Beams, Christensen and Robinson will want to get their season off to a strong start in front of a large crowd.

Will the pressure however get too much for the Lions and Pies will capitilise?

Reckon Lions will win this by about 4-5 goals

Just hope Swanny and Pendles go big

Lions will be too good here, could be at least a 5 goal margin.

Will be an interesting game if weather forecasts are correct - Rain and Thunderstorms predicted for Saturday - Saturday predicted to be the worst day of Easter.

May turn into a dour fight with contested possessions the order of the night,  If this is the case reckon there will be no more than 2 goals in it. A lot will depend whether it is actually raining during the match or not as the Gabba drains well but if it is raining water pools over the ground especially in both forward 50's.

Brisbane should win, likely to be a wet game with the weather around.
Title: Re: Round 1 - Lions v Pies - Saturday 4th April - Gabba
Post by: Ringo on April 03, 2015, 04:18:47 PM
If the weather holds there will be a big Crowd for this match which will add to the atmosphere.  Pre-Sale tickets for this match are the highest for any match since 2010.

Interestingly the player the boys are most concerned about is the small Jamie Elliott - Difficult to match up on.

Should be a cracker game to start the season for Brisbane.  Will be there obviously and tipping Brisbane by 20 and jaden Mcgrath to score a goal on his first outing.

Its been pouring down here on the Gold Coast on and off all day. I would guess that it is the same in Brisbane. Rain is predicted.

Edit: Just looked at the radar and the weather is coming from the West. Generally that is where the storms come from.

No rain in Brisbane at all so far today so ground will be slippery but not boggy.

Very overcast at the moment,

just about to heaad to the Gabba now.

Have Pendles and Swan in SC on ground - both solid, with Jayden Mcgrath and Brown on the bench- McGrath the leading SC scorer for Brisbane in the 1st term

Have Rocky as C, Rich, Pendles and Swan on field in RDT and AF with Brown on the bench

Need Rocky to lift, Rich, Pendles and Swan solid.

Yeah depends how bad the break is (if it is broken, which it looks like it is)
The harder thing is he won't be able to do any conditioning at all because any inflation of the lungs is extremely painful for a decent bruising (3-5 weeks)  let alone broken ones

I reckon 8ish

It will also depend on if it does damage to the lungs etc.

And damn the Ox has been subbed. I ended up starting him and he looked awesome in the first quarter

Best not to ask this question. Worst case scenario is the rib breaks and takes something with it.

It's a really good sign though that there was no visible bleeding from the mouth.

Yeah, im assuming if he's sitting on the sideline after the doc has seen him then he doesn't have a haemo/pneumo thorax...

Because everyone thinks Martin is better just cause he scored well in SC/DT last year
Leuey is fantastic in the ruck, can actually tap it to a teammate. Martin isn't.

Thy umpires were conspiring against Brisbane for sure. These umpires should never be umpiring again, they were terrible. So bad calls in Brisbanes favour as well, but how is it out of bounds intentional when the ball is kicked 50m forward? Umpires are a joke.

Saying that we were awful for the first half.

Just home from the game and my comments:

Sidey will take over from Beams and be SC relevant. My only regret not having him Captain.
Umpiring was inconsistent but was for both sides for most of the night although Pies got some favoiurable decisions in the last 5 minutes (Merrets spoil adjudged a push in the back the most blatant) but in saying that did not cost us the game.
Lions lost the game in the first quarter by not converting the early pressure.
Was a good game although scrappy as could be expected for this part of the season.
Berger/Martin combination will work.  martin was the instigator in a couple of our come back goals in the last quarter.
Paporone did an alright job in defence.
Toovey may incur the wrath of the MRP for high shot in 2nd quarter,

Do not want to brag but people laughed when i said I would play Merret in defence.  i will take 83sc points from a $285k defender any day.  Only for SC though.

It was similar to the May bump on Zorko but not as vicious. Clean and in the chest, it is actually shoulder on shoulder contact. I'll see if I can find the replay for you now

Shame about Rocky he seemed to be headed for a decent score but as the coach said after the match he new he was hurt badly because Rocky always gets up hoping for good news but looks like he might be out for a while  :'(
