Title: Real Dream Team POD Picks
Post by: Ricochet on February 06, 2015, 06:00:16 PM
Don't see much traffic in this section these days but the original RDT is still up there as one of my favourite comps again. Made my first team today and chucked in a few POD (hopefully) boys to see what they look like.

So who are your POD picks so far?

Mine are:
Hodge
Lumumba
Barlow (maybe not that much of a POD)
Maric
TMitchell

I wouldn't have thought Barlow would be a POD, but if he is, well, I have him too.
Also have Maric and TMitch ;)

Aaaand James Kelly, Brad Crouch (want Redden though), and I dunno if Heppell is a POD or not

Mayes
Rocky
Sidey
Prestia
Maric?
Leuy?

Smith is at 20% so is not really a POD
Leuy is at 45% so i definitely not a POD
Rocky is at 23%
Mayes is at 6%
Maric is at 2%
Prestia is at 1%

Also Titch is at 25% ownership atm

I don't know the stats, so couldnt tell you. Havent seen rocky in that many teams around, but not surprised hes popular.

Thought Smith and Leuy would be a but down on that.

How many people own Maric LF?

Would love Tom mitch.. Just cant get him in but. Ive only gone 3 premos up forward. If i needed a roughie for a 4th to step up for a premo status it would be him. But defence worries me so i need to stack;

Maybe but not always the case.
I mean take Sidey for example has been bought up here a bit but his ownership is quite low in everything atm which is good for those that plan on starting him

Also would depend on the player and bye structures for people

Thats the big question mark on Sidey. But Greenwood has come in to replace Beams and TAdams to replace Ball, so a lot will depend on how they perform in my opinion. If they struggle then Sidey will cop more attention

Yeah.... ideally they would replace them. But Greenwood is no Beams. So cant see him getting shown much respect. Straight to pendles... which will only do a little cos hes a freak... then to sidey im thinking.

my defence is STACKED (and talking Waters at D6 here) and the most I can do is Lycett as F3
and that's with a midline containing Barlow/Pendles/Redden as the only guys above 510k

Cotchin M4 in the mids (with Rocky, Ablett, Barlow)

I don't necessarily agree with this. There's only 30 spots to fill and if people start jumping on the same 2 or 3 "PODs" then there's plenty of opportunity to be different, especially in the forwards.

Yeah i agree Mr C. But unlike the old days where you would of shared maybe 4 or 5 players with your opponent, now your sharing 15-20. Even more if your in a better league.
Title: Re: Real Dream Team POD Picks

The thing with this year there are quite a few mids and forwards you can pick from so there will likely be more pod's in these positions also likely a more even spread of ownership with a few of the obvious selections.

Now down in defence this is less likely due to lack of quality defenders and rookies I see quite a few names being thrown up that you think are under the radar so to speak but obviously they are not because of the problem down there. If anything this year will be won with whoever can nail their defence the best from the start.

I really don't rate the back PODs people are throwing up - Mayes, Vlastuin, KK, Henderson...can't see any of them improving by a big enough margin to be worthwhile.

key points:
D2-D5/6 (Ibbo, Seeds, Newnes, Henderson, Mayes, Lumumba, Vlastuin, Fisher, Waters, Whitecross, Yeo, Others?)
Starting ruckline (Kreuz & Leuey? Or one and a premo?)
To Rocky or not to Rocky?
Rook selections

Of those I've seen Mayes and Hendersons name thrown up a bit but was more referring to players like Yeo and Pearce for a couple of examples.
But those you mentioned there I agree don't think they will go up by much.

in fairness, averaging 80 or more put you in the top 15 defs (that have retained it for this year)
you up it to 85, and only the top 6 defs are in it

risky? sure, but when you've got a glut of defenders around 300-350k (that people think are primed for breakouts) then it's foolish to not consider them in some way

I've just put James Kelly into my team.  Not sure how much of a POD he is at this stage though.
2.17% ownership at the moment

I'm surprised by that. Would be a decent pick if you were confident that the cats were not going to rest him from time to time.

He played 21 games last year.  Granted, the two previous years were 17 and 18, though I can't remember if that was due to injuries or not.

possibly
can't imagine that missing a few games before rd7 is a sign of rest
seems like he gets injured/suspended a little bit early, before tightening down (just like the rest of Geelong) around the byes for the post-season
