DRAFT IS NOW CLOSED
72 players, 4 picks each (there will be 72 players. If less, rookies will be added. If more, the players left over will go to the rookie/pre-season draft).
Options for the National Draft:
- Select just as a normal draft
- Opt to automatically select the highest drafted player available. You can choose this option anytime (i.e. select your first 2 manually, and than opt for automatic). PLEASE let us know if you plan to go automatic, it will make the draft go quicker.
Rules
- You have 24 hours to pick, 2 hours if you have been online during the 24 hours. If you don't pick, you will automatically receive the highest player available and can not change.
- You can choose to pass. This will give you an extra pick in the rookie/pre-season draft. I.e. If you pass your first round pick #8, you get an extra first round pick AFTER pick 8 of the rookie/preseason draft first pick.
- Jaeger O'Meara and Brad Crouch - the Under 17s - can be picked at anytime in this draft.

Obviously, an odd number advantages the first half of the draft and disadvantages the second half. I'm not hugely fussed but I guess the easiest solution (if we needed one) would be to have 4 rounds and put the remaining 15 draft picks into the rookie draft?
All of this sounds good
Just posting here so it comes up on my new replies thingy
Holz when does it start, cause HP hasn't been on since yesterday at 2pm

I feel round 5 isn't that important. I wanted 5 so people could have 30 players from the 2 drafts. Plus the national draft order will be reversed again so the second half in this draft will get better picks so i think its fair.

i dont see any harm in opening it now i guess than. OK draft officially starts whenever HP takes his pick. If he takes over 24 hours for some reason he will not be skipped.
1st pick is always hard. Seeing as our forwards are stacked, and Random.org went for this guy as well, I'll be happy to announce Chad Wingard as first pick.

Well, it was going to be Patton but have enough forwards for long term. Then GWS have stacked their midfield while Port need midfielders. So Wingard has more job security and if he can avoid getting hit on the head, he'll be gold 8).
Grazz Torps and elephants up next :)
IM not sure what you guys think but some people are talking about allowing order changes like we did in the afl draft. e.g you can trade your 1st and 2nd round pick for someone elses first and second round pick. Or you could do 3 and 4 for 3 and 4. If you really wanted to go trade 1,2,3,4,5 for 1,2,3,4,5 of someone else.
What do you guys think.
It wont disadvantage people or stack teams, will just change the order up.
Anyone know when Grazz will come online or can contact him?
can I trade my 2nd and 3rd picks for someone else's 1st and 4th pick ?

im not too sure on this one as its not just shuffling up the order but its actually giving you 2 picks in round 1. I guess if others agree its ok.
I dont think anyone would want to accept that trade, but we will see.
if no one is against the idea, would anyone be open to trading their 1st and 5th picks for my 2nd and 3rd ? (my second pick is very ealry in the second round)
I'll take Johnathon Patton.

ahh i was soo close to getting him
There was only 2 guys i really wanted in the draft, with patton gone its an easy choice for me. Its really annoying he wont play next year, he is probably more afl ready than most of the rookies.
Im going to go with Jaegar O'meara
(http://mm.afl.com.au/Portals/0/Jaeger_Omeara246_a.JPG)
DT is all about mids i think i have most of the future stars with Priddis, Wells, Cotchin, Swallow, Shiel, Scully, O'meara
... holz, how the hell did you end up picking before me ?
Putting a lot of faith in some unproven youth Holz, fairly risky.

i agree but i only really need 1-2 out of shiel, swallow, o'meara, scully etc.. to do ok. I do have priddis, cotchin and wells who have showed they can score. My team will be fairly average in the first 2 years but if i can get lucky i could have a really strong team.
number 1 picks generally do reasonably well and i have scully, swallow, watts, gibs and o'meara probably would have gone 1.
As some of you know elephants is away, so i will try and orgainse it for marcz to take over in this draft so there may be a small delay in the picking.
we select Dom Tyson...
A good decision-maker who excels at clearances and winning the contested ball. He has the ability to dispose of the ball even when under pressure or being tackled using his left foot and excellent hands. He represented Vic Metro at the NAB AFL U18 Championships, averaging 22 disposals at 78.9 per cent efficiency, 11 contested possessions and 3.6 tackles.

He was never going to slip to me but I was hopeful...
I will select Father Son pick Tom Mitchell, has loads to offer both in the long and short term and plays very similar to Pendles.

My list went - 1. Coniglio
2. O'Meara
3. Mitchell
4. Wingard
5. Patton
Is gunna be a super talent, was very under hyped due to the fact he was injured during the U18 Carnival and the fact that he was already going to Sydney as a F/S, made journo's not read into him so much. Standout game for him was with the AIS where he picked up 41 disposals.

ok i have moved him onto my planned real dream team. Its a good thing he is a FS pick makes him alot cheaper, Also good to see O'Meara is number 2 on your list.

Not to mention their rotational policy.
And Patton was number one ;)
Patton wasn't number 1 on MTTY's list, which is what I was talking about.
Don't be surprised to see Coniglio play most games, as he has bee playing against men for 2 years already. He ain't no skinny Dom Tyson. I don't think he'll be rotated in and out of the team for his whole career either. But feel free to keep telling yourself that he's a dud.

yes but someone would have picked him before my second pick, there is talk he will get the rebounding half back role at north, which is normally a good DT position.
might as well go haynes I guess :P

.......the first is a no-brainer, taken at No 16 in the national draft, so at No 42 in ours he's good value Thomas Sheridan
And for my 2nd choice am going for a ready made mature age player, he's 24 and has mpp Tory Dickson
And same deal here, Scrads to pick.
Pass, I will take 2 selections on the PSD.
FS said he can't pick in the euro 14s so I think that means he will pass. Next pick is bb.
Nah I'll pick Jackson Paine
Ill take Rory Taggart.
Thinking over both drafts, will pick shortly.
Bit of a gamble, but I'll take...

Setanta O'hAilpin
sorry guys my computer is dying, setana was my pick so will need al little bit of time to think.
I will happily take a first round defender in Henry Schade

It's your pick in the euro 14s AFL players draft too Holz.
Zip takes Jed Bews
(http://resources3.news.com.au/images/2011/10/07/1226161/317295-jed-bews.jpg)
yeah, thought I might as well punt on a FS rule.
ftr, I pass on my next turn.
I can do that right? Gives me another pick in the next draft... ?
Anyone know if PB's coming back tonight?
Otherwise i am going to head off to bed

Not sure. You can leave your pick with me though if you want. I'm always up late.
Ah chee from port.
Already picked by bb

BB has Crouch, Smith and Newman
so who has he already picked?
oops 2 people picking for FS stuffed me up i put down FS pick for BB.
Ok MTTY is back up i stuffed the picks up so will have to wait till he comes back on, if this unfortunately takes more than 24 hours we shoudlnt skip as it was a mistake i made it the draft order. If possible and you have 2 people picking for 1 team and the coach overides the assistant is it possible for the assistant to delete the post.
Does this mean Newman is still available?

Does this mean Newman is still available?
no as taggart was BB 4th pick it was originally a pass. Newman was his 3rd
Where we up to here.
Lift your game Holz.
Still MTTY. Not sure when he will come on.
Cameron Ellis-Yolman is my pick since Taggert is gone. He is a very good utility that can play anywhere.
Nic O'Brien
Height:188cm
Weight:91kg
Position:Forward
Represented Vic Country at the NAB AFL U18 Championships, playing in all five games, averaging 18.2 disposals and six marks. He leads up forward with terrific work rate, strong hands and an excellent left foot kick. He is a composed player with the ball.
The next pick for the Spanish Stallions is Jack Newnes from the Saints.
The Scot's take Corey Gault.
Changed my mind. I'll take Kelly instead.
It's been more than 24 hours so HP now get's Joel Hamling and Tom Curren.

Oh FFS. Not updated the front page and must have skipped the pick a few posts above. I've been tired the entire day so yeah :P.
I'll go mature ager in Sam Rowe. Given that he isn't already picked ::).

yeah i know meow wasnt serious jsut trying to explain why its been abit slow over the last few days. Good news is i should be more active now. Im just waiting for the postions to be realeased and see if i have gibbs or not in defence it will make or break my team. Also alot of info is being released now its changing my list drastically.
Jimmy Webster Defender
Gibbs not being a backmen may hurt :-/
ok, i dont want to give permission to skip with this one, coz all the good players will go. So i apologise to MTTY if this is a bid decision, but the English Lions pick Nicholas Joyce

My understanding of it is that yes you'll get an extra pick in the next draft......but l,m not sure when.
Maybe one of the more experienced players can give a more thorough answer than me
Ok i will explain the rules abit better,
it says You can choose to pass. This will give you an extra pick in the rookie/pre-season draft. I.e. If you pass your first round pick #8, you get an extra first round pick AFTER pick 8 of the rookie/preseason draft first pick.
So say if you pass on pick 53 when it gets to pick 53 in the draft you will get a pick right after that and than it goes to pick 54. The national draft is randomised so its luck of the draw.
Thanks for clearing that up Holz.
After a bit more research, i'd like to change our pick to Jordan Murdoch if thats ok Holz?

as long as you change your pick before the next one you can do whatever you want. PB hasnt picked so its all good.
Didn't PB say he would pass his next pick?

Yeah i pass
Good chance to play a lot and had a few (slim few, but there nonetheless) good scores last year.
I take Jason Blake.

James Sellar.
Holz, you caqn change Voldemort to BB now, he's the new coach. ;)
Anybody know how long FS has? He picked in the AFL draft but not in this. :(
It's been more than 2 hours so FS pick goes to the top draftee available which is Nicholas Joyce from Adelaide, It's Scrads pick.
yep

From the rules in the first post
QuoteYou have 24 hours to pick, 2 hours if you have been online during the 24 hours. If you don't pick, you will automatically receive the highest player available and can not change.

ok guys, sorry l didnt realise the rules were different in this draft to the main one.........now l do ;)
......but as for not wanting long waits.....it makes no time difference at all if someone gets an automatic selection or just gets skipped and has their pick the next time they get online (as is the case in the main draft) :P
Yeah but you can't have anyone complaining saying they got a useless pick because they get the top available.
I already passed, so pass again
yep a PASS for me as well
National Draft now closed........yes?
seems there are no more picks i will let FS pick up untill the next draft starts in a few days
I'll pick arnot
we will pass i think
Good move Marco ;)
Alex Brown and Cameron Sutcliffe must be feeling low. Only players from both the Worlds and the Euros not selected in the National Draft.
