Eade did not formally apply for the role but Gold Coast headhunted the former Western Bulldogs and Sydney coach.

The panel formed to select Guy McKenna

Not a fan of this move. How many flags has he won in how many years coaching?

Would say it is highly likely that this may be the case but article doing best to deny it is formality,

"However it is understood he is yet to formally commit to the Suns' top job.
A Suns spokesman told AFL.com.au on Monday night the club was yet to make its appointment."

They said they were pretty committed to getting somebody in with head coaching experience, but I'm surprised they didn't go down the path you've suggested.

Sam McClure reporting that the Pies want 400k from Suns for Rocket as he still has one year left on his contract.

I heard they were reportedly happy and supportive of him going up to the Suns.  :o

Poor move Gold Coast, just cost themselves 400k for a sideways trade at best

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-10-29/suns-must-pay-eade-premium

my favourite bit is 'Just as Peter Gordon's club [WBD] had to dip into its pocket to get Ryan Griffen to GWS, so too someone will have to dip into their pocket to get our director of coaching'

really poor analogy :P

I think Eade is what GC need. Good move by GC to get him. He migh not win them a GF but will set them up to win one

The Suns could win it in the next 1-3 years, gutsy move from the CGS board tbh!

Great Coach though and away from that mad man Buckley :P

Great to see Rocket laying down the law.

"Rocket just gave about 15 players a big spray after a poor drill. I'm 80m away and heard "it's not acceptable" among the rant #afl #suns"
