After seeing all of the draftees get called to their respective clubs last night, it got me thinking as to what their Round 1, 2012 line-up could look like. Feel free to offer any feedback or add to a discussion. Lot of good picks for Dream Team that will be locked into my team for round 1.

B: Bugg, Cornes, Mohr
HB: Buntine, Davis, McDonald
C: Sheil, Ward, Hoskin-Elliott
HF: Folau, Patton, Power
F: Haynes, Brogan, O'hAlpin
Foll: Giles, Scully, Clifton
Int: Cameron, Coniglio, Palmer, Tyson
Emerg: D. Smith, Greene, Adams, Golds

Looks pretty good on paper - better than Gold Coast did this time last year that's for sure

the more i look at the afl.com.au team the worse i feel about it

TheMailman

The more I look at the backs and the mids. The happier I feel that Sydney is playing them twice

I wouldn't be surprised if GC managed a 50+ win.

Their whole team is built on potential and old unwanted players of past. There is no balance inbetween

Yeah Yeah I agree... Brogan, Cornes, McDonald, O'halpin and Ward to match GAJ, Brennan, Rischi etc...

they will be bad theres no doubt about that but its next year where they snipe bigger names imo

look, I think they're going to fare better than expected. But, as Marcz said, they're not building their list for 2012, or even 2013. They've got these older players, who in the most case were, at one stage, amongst the best in the league, to play for a year, maybe two or three (depending on how they hold up), but mostly to mentor and later coach the younger kids, while they develop around them.

FTR- why did mcdonald retire at the end of 2010? I was looking at his stats, and statistically he was still gunning it... like who calls a 90+ DTer and 120+ SCer (in a bottom 8 side), a finished player, and time for retirement, regardless of age...?

TheMailman

I'll call it now that it would be lucky for them to win one game IMO

In honesty I want to see them do well within the next 5 years

I just can't see it happening.

Ziplock

by 2014 they'll be doing well, and should be in the 8, along with GC.

by 2015-2016, GWS and GC will both be dominating the top of the ladder...

TheMailman

GC will be up there

GWS won't be for some time

I'd call 2017 or so when they make the 8

Feel free to quote me on that if I get it horribly wrong

Ziplock

I'll quote you on it.
keeping in mind GWS will probably be picking up Pendles or/(and hopefully if possible :P )Goddard.
