Who will win? Who do you want to win?

Option 4: Mexico City & Mexico City

What hasn't this team achieved this year? They have clearly been the best team of the competition; #1 in points scored, Minor Premiers, Europe & EurAsia premiers, World Idol Winners... and coach Holz was the winning coach in the blockbuster EurAsia v AAP Alliance. However, I bet you they would trade all of that in for the premiership and become the first team to achieve two WXV premierships, both back-to-back. Led by the premier ruckman in Todd Goldstein, with key backs Tom McDonald & Alex Rance watching covering the 6, Rory Sloane and Joel Selwood providing the grunt and Jarryd Roughead and Dustin Martin inflicting the pain up forward, this is arguably the best team that has ever graced the World XVs. But now the time has come that Dublin has waited for all season; September, where Dublin will either make history or choke at the final hurdle. You feel that the pressure is on Dublin to win it, and they did lose the Champions League final last week as well. Will Dublin's champion season be rewarded?
Ah the Suns, the comparatively quiet champions from Mexico. Was their appearance in the Grand Final ever doubted? The 2012 premiers have always been a champion team, but you just felt in the lead up to this season that the Suns would be there in September. The lull from Rounds 2-6 has become a distant memory as the Suns have hit form at the right time of the season. The Suns claimed the AAP & America Premierships and coach JROO led the AAP to a narrow loss against the highly fancied EurAsia, they also finished runner-up to Dublin on the points ladder and World Idol. All year they have been on Dublin's tail and all year they have just fallen short. However; held up by Kade Simpson & Michael Johnson, with Ivan Maric feeding Tom Rockliff & Steele Sidebottom in the guts and champion forwards Deledio, Riewoldt and Goddard, this has always been the team to take away the premiership from Dublin, whom looked to have it claimed long ago.
THE MATCH UP
The Suns & Destroyers have met each other 6 times in the past 4 years; two of those battles occurring in the past 5 weeks in Round 17 & the first qualifying final. The Destroyers claimed both victories in emphatic fashion, but the Round 17 win against Mexico City was their 3rd closest match of the season. Had these two teams played each other each week this year, Dublin would lead 14-6, but only 4 of the past 7 with Mexico City claiming the most recent encounter. There is no doubting that Mexico City go into this match as underdogs. But, this is their third rodeo at the MCG in September and they know both the joy and heartbreak of both results. In 2012, Aaron Sandilands was best-on-ground and carried the team over the line. At the end of last year, the Suns sensationally traded him for Tom Rockliff, who is expected to play this week and play a major role in the final, whereas Sandilands has commenced his holidays this week and would have been unavailable. Will this trade end up deciding whether Mexico City will win the premiership or not? Time will tell! However, the Destroyers have been the better team all year I will tip them to win it again this year.
And the reserves!
Despite neither team making the senior finals, Tokyo & Beijing will go head to head in a fierce Reserves Grand Final for the ages!

Im calling it now. Rocky will be the reason I lose this week. Take that trade gift away and I think i have this.
I need no more restrings from my guys and a few from Mexcio.
Jobe Watson, David Mundy and Michael Walters are all out soo far. I cant afford anymore
the only thing that can save me is the hawks getting mad and just pumping carlton. Please no hawks resting.

its terrible but not the worst think to happen. One of my forwards missing would be worse. Just please no late out. Currie should go 70+
Ivan will tear Currie a new one, even Vickery could tbh.

Hansen I need as probably covering.

Resting: David Mundy, Todd Goldstein, Nick Dal Santo, Michael Walters
how exactly does the dub rule work.
lets say Selwood is rested and they take him off in the second quarter (because why not have that happen to me)
does NVB sub into the midfield and lachy hansen into the utility spot. Or is that only if Selwood is a late out. Or do I actually need a midfielder on the bench for it to happen.
I would rather play NVB over Hansen in utility but not if it means i have no sub coverage.

All year the biggest talking point from last years trade period was the Rocky trade.
however will this trade come into play
Trade 19
Dublin give: Ciaryn Sheehan + Kieran Harper
Mexico give: Daniel Currie + Pick 91
Last time the man played he had 90 SC on just 5 disposals.

Shouldn't have given him up so cheap! Oh well, Sheehan basically got me Hampson, so it's all good.
Still, if I realised how valuable rucks were, him and Blicavs would most likely still be with me :-\

Which means possible debuts (Freo have 23 on the plane) for Connor Blakely (definite), Ethan Hughes, Jacob Ballard and Brady Grey.

Jason amazingly was taken pick 111 in the 2013 draft the big man from America has only played 2 for Belfast before getting called up for the biggest stage. Following the Withdrawal of Todd Goldstein and the unavailability of backup Daniel Curie.
Holmes has been serviacable in his two games with a combined 10 disposals 52 hitouts and 5 tackles. He has however been sharing ruck duties and will amazingly be given the sole ruck dutie for Dublin this week.
There are some extremely big shoes to fill with Goldy missing but Jason appears up for it.

Scharenberg unlike Holmes was taken very high with pick 3 in the 2013 draft. He has struggled with injury and has only just played his 3rd game for Belfast. Coach Holz has had a love for "The Shaz" as soon as he joined the club and rates him as a future star of the competition.
He was pretty solid last week with 17 touches and 9 marks.
Holz "Its time for him to show his star pedigree on the big stage, I have wanted to give him a go all year and its finally has arived, he won't let us down"

Need to pick two of Nroo, Grigg, Boomer
and two of Oxley, Kamdyn, Hurn, Hunt
Bet Holz wish he had the same problem :P

I cant decide which gun to leave out of my team. Can only pick one of Shaz, Bruce, Jetta, Holman, Omac, Daw
I actually have alot of guys playing this week still.
Dropping Boomer is the epitome of disrespect. How dare you consider it
By the way remove Rocky from that team and I reckon I would have you beat. I bet I lose by under the margin of Rocky and your E1.

No gig for Shannon Hurn against the Saints?
Tough call playing the two kids over him.
My tip is no Boak C will cost Holz the win.

Dublin off to a great start. If Holmes, Schaz and NVB can all have decent games they're definitely in it.
After last night:
What a start to a final! We had 7 players play last night that produced 5 centurions! Both teams are off to a flier, with Dublin boasting a higher average points per player. But the Suns would be stoked with their start, especially Kamdyn McIntosh posting a respectable score. He was one of their weaker players, and he produced.
Still too close to call!

This is an amazing final!
After the Haw/Carl game:
5 players played, 4 scored centuries and the other scored 95. 3 played for Dublin and the other two for Mexico City. The standard in this game is unreal, and at this stage this may be the highest scoring game of the year!
However, it has really come down to the captain choices of both teams, with Rockliff establishing the lead over the disappointing Sloane. Mexico City still have the upperhand, and really might hit the 170 barrier!

Buddy, Holmes and Nroo haven't joined the party from tonight's game though ::)
Congrats Jroo and Mexico on the flag.
2 championships a runner up and a 3rd place finish in 4 years is phenomenal.
Dublin boys thanks for a good year, put in a great effort this week but at some point the side is too depleted to compete with an on Mexico.
Selwood I love you and sorry I lost the faith in you. Goldy despute resting what a great year. Tmac what a season nobody saw this coming not even me and I rated you highly.
On to bigger and better things next year. Buddy Sloane Selwood Watson Boak can all improve on last year. We might aee a few new faces aswell.
Thanks everyone to a great year, love the banter and im happy to cop the hate as the Collingwood of the league. Special thanks to purp for the huge amount of time he puts in. Its a hard job and sometimes I dont make it easier for you, but really appreciate it.
Again congrats to Mexixo you did what only London could do and beat me in a World's matchup.
This speech has been too nice. I need to drop so Holz ego in.
I told you Mexico would win!!!!
Cheers mate, but the coronas are on ice for now though still got Sidey, Ox and BJ to come

Epic game!
Purp - we also had D.Howe score 88 in the reserves for us in the Hawthorn/Carlton game. :)
Purp, think I named Burgoyne so shouldn't be in the reserves.
Looking like a mexico win... Epic!
Great stuff Mexico City! Miracles can still happen Dublin :p
resting is unfortunate, but worth pointing out the Suns would've beaten Dublin last week also

All good Purps. Atm it sits at:
Mexico City - 1386 with Sidey, BJ and Ox to come
Dublin - 1300 with Schaz and Tom McDonald to come
I forgot abour shaz.
Just need them to combine for 300 and all Mexico to suck
Tmac 108
Where was that last week.
With just Coll/Ess to go...
It looks like we have a winner (barring an absolute catastrophe)!
Dublin's outs caught up with them, with debutant Holmes choking under the immense pressure, likewise Lance Franklin.
The Suns have saved their best till last, and look to have won the premiership in style!

So if the Suns win Jordan Lewis, Brad Ebert, Ivan Maric, Brendon Goddard and Jimmy Bartel get there 2nd Premiership Medallions with the Suns after 2012 (Roo was injured for the 1st GF!) while Shaun Grigg amazingly makes it 2 flags in a row after being in the Dublin side last year.
The only thing remaining to look at is would Mexico City have won if they had a missing Sandilands and Gibbs on their list instead of Rocky?

The only thing remaining to look at is would Mexico City have won if they had a missing Sandilands and Gibbs on their list instead of Rocky?
The more interesting question is could Christchurch have won if they had rocky on their list. Would have not made top 4 but had a big finals series.

Rocky + McKernan combined for 267 this weekend :P
Well done Purps on a huge year Admining this comp, done an absolutely outstanding job.
Almost a perfect record, if it wasn't for Seoul.
Yeah, huge effort Purps, appreciate it. Best of the XV competitions!
You're enormous Purps!
I'm waiting for the day Os and Purps get together and start a new comp that takes over HS SC!
Now, let's get the draft cracking!

The MEXICO CITY SUNS are the 2015 World XVs PREMIERS!
It is their second premiership with the first won in 2012 by coach Maca24
DUBLIN finishes 2nd, in what was a perhaps unjust finish for the most dominant team of the year
TOM ROCKLIFF wins the AYRES/MCLEOD Medal.

It is an amazing performance, given Rockliff was subbed out of the Dublin premiership winning team last year and hence missed out on a medallion. One year later, he is the BOG performer against Dublin and Captain of the Mexico City Suns.
The Premiership Captain:
TOM ROCKLIFF
The Premiership Players:
KADE SIMPSON
MATTHEW BROADBENT
ADAM OXLEY
KAMDYN MCINTOSH
TOM ROCKLIFF

The game as it happened:
- Dublin were disadvantaged… for being way too good! Goldstein, Mundy, Bob Murphy & Dal Santo were no-shows for the team, forcing the WXV debuts of Jason Holmes and Matt Scharenberg. Talk about initiation!
- This is actually two premierships in a row Todd Goldstein has missed, after last year failing to pull up and forcing Tom McDonald to ruck OOP.
- Despite the two debutants, there was an incredible 1673 WXV games of experience on display
- The Dublin defence tried its best; all of them reaching the ton
- The Suns midfield, including Ivan Maric, scored a mammoth 602 points between them
- There were just 4 clear villains in the game; Oxley, Riewoldt, Holmes and Franklin all scored 50 or less
- The Mexico City defence couldn't muster a centurion between them
- There was a mammoth 16 centurions on the field, 9 to Dublin & 7 to Mexico City. This was clearly the Grand Final.
- Griggs becomes a back-to-back Premiership player after playing in Dublin's premiership last year
- Who would have though McIntosh and Oxley would be premiership players at the start of the year?
- Bartel, Ebert, Goddard, Lewis & Maric become dual Mexico City premiership players

Cheers everyone, must say it's a huge honour to win this.
Firstly, thanks to Purps you've had a great first season in charge. Really appreciate all your hard work in making WXVs what it is. You and Oz have done an amazing job and we're all grateful for all that you've done.
Our players have done an awesome job, we had a shocking start to the season but we kept battling away and in the end we've done it! Massive thanks to Rocky, Sidey and Lids who have really dominated this finals series. Crazy to think Kamdyn and Ox are Premiership players, but they've done their job throughout the year!
Really unlucky Dublin, been the best side all year. Would've been a very close game and if you didn't cop all those restings. Hopefully we meet in the GF next year too Holz ;)
Oh and thanks to all the coaches for a great season, especially meow for Rocky, you're a legend mate :P
Let the trading being boys!

$1Million on Rocky
Hey Jay, when can we collect our winnings?
clearly we have to do something about mexcio.
2 flags 4/4 top 3 finishes.
cant let this keep happening
Dayum that's a lot of history!
So this was what you were working on this year oz :P
I was wondering why you were so annoyed I wasn't keeping an eye out for Rivalry awards :P

Could've won all four tbh :P
Buntine/Minson cost Maca in 2013 didn't he?
And reckon we would've won last year if it wasn't for Buntine/Sloane/Jacobs stuffed in that QF.
Congratulations Mexico City!
Well Played Dublin!
JROO8, I have my first piece of trading advice, and I won't keep it secret - Don't Trade Rocky!
You're enormous too Ossie

depends what you get offered.
I still say trading him for Jack Gunston and Travis Boak was a good move.
Rocky has actually been traded every single year lol

Yep, very unlikely I trade him
Congrats Jroo and Mexico City! A good season capped off by a big win against the odds - comiserations to Holz, a bit unlucky with resting ahead of the final. I'm sure you'll be back strong as always next year. :)
Thank you to Purps and Oz for all the terrific work you have done all year! Amazing competition.
And get around Shanghai! To think that our reserves finished in 17th spot last year with only 829 points for the season - to premiers this year with 1905 points in the regular season. Stoked! Let's hope the Thunder like what they see and push for that finals spot next year ;)
Thanks guys!
The weekend work is the best part about this comp. I do actually love it.
And just for the nostalgia, this is was what I wrote for everyone's previews at Round 1... I certainly started to add more and more as the year progressed, coz the comp just kept getting better!
QuoteIs this a year-defining match for the Brewers and Cobras? Both teams would be wanting to assert themselves as genuine finals contenders this year to rest of the competition, and the first step in doing so is winning this match. The Cobras have the wood over the Brewers, with Berlin's only win coming from an elimination final in 2013. Both teams would be pencilling this match as a win.
Coming off a heart-breaking 9th placing last year, Cairo don't want to approach the end of the year relying on other results to fall their way. A round 1 win against last year's 6th placed Spetsnaz would not only gain some control for their year, but command greater respect from the competition as a true finals contender. Moscow on the other hand come in as red-hot favourites and would be generally expected to win. Many expect Moscow to make the finals, but a loss here would put them straight back onto level pegging with about 8 other teams looking at 4 spots from 5th to 8th this year.
New Zealand would be a-buzz with their new team in Christchurch making their WXVs debut, after the disappointing results Wellington has faced in the last two years. They would also be excited at having meow meow leading the way after having led Moscow to the semi-finals in 2012. No one really knows what the Saints might dish out in round 1, but Tokyo would be entering this match as favourites, believing they under-achieved in their 13th placing last year.
If a premiership hangover had to apply to anyone, then you would think the men from Dublin would be the ones to have it :P. Nevertheless, the might Dublin Destroyers would be looking to dispatch the Islanders, but how hard are they willing to go round 1? Who knows? Pacific have improved their list in the off-season, and if the winds go their way then anything could happen. Pacific will be excited at unleashing boom recruit Michael Barlow this weekend.
An interesting match looms between the Royals and Tigers. London, after falling short in the finals race (11th) last year would at this match as an easy win, as New Delhi have had awful, awful previous round 1 scores where they scored 97 (2014) and 81 (2013). But, is this a New-New Delhi? Only EIGHT of their current players have played for New Delhi in a senior match before. So who knows what they will produce?
On paper, you would think a team with three-straight preliminary finals in as many years would be a powerhouse of the competition. But I'm tipping New York to almost double the Armadillos score, after a brutal off-season for both teams where; New York have only TEN current players to have played a senior match for New York, as a result of a savage recruiting drive where some pundits have predicted a top 4 finish is awaiting them. Buenos Aires on the other hand, noticed that their star players were ageing, so in a desperate attempt to salvage some long-term value, traded basically all of them for youth. The Armadillos also go into the 2015 season with ONE ruckman on their list; first year player Sam Durdin. A long season beckons for the dillos.
This is my match of the round. With the mighty Sao Paulo Pumas disbanding, Rio themselves have a similarly strong list on paper and are considered to be top 8 team by most, perhaps pushing for a top 4 berth. PNL have also received similar predictions, and it may turn out that both these teams may make the top 4. It would be one helluva debut for Rio if they were to knock off the luckless Reindeers. But the Reindeers are looking at this season with aims to take it all; a round 1 win is the first step.
The Suns would have been devastated, like any team, at finishing second place to when it mattered most last year. However, it seems they have used this loss as the ultimate platform to push for the flag again, as most predict a top 2 finish is inevitable. Seoul on the other hand would be looking to crack the finals for the first time this year and they believe they have the list to do it. But the Suns should be too strong here.
A shaky start to season proved good enough to make the finals last year for the Wolves, but they certainly wouldn't want to lose to the 17th placed Thunder of last year. ALL the pressure is on the Wolves, as surely they would have noticed the pre-season form of the Thunder, who really could upset in this match. Beijing are expecting an improvement this year, and looking at their list you would think they will indeed do so. But by how much? A year-defining match looms for Beijing.
Love being able to say we beat the premiers this year >:D

Congratz JRoo and Mexico, and such a shame Holz couldn't grab either big trophy this year in Champs or Worlds! Gives him more reason to try and strengthen Dublin for their onslaught next season :-X.

Dublin didnt win anything meaningfull. clearly im not that strong. Christchurch are the champ league champs and Mexico the Worlds champs.
i have learnt its more important to stay up the top like Mexico. They wernt the best team this year but walked away with the flag. Just need to be in that top 4 and your always a shot.
