Title: 2017/2018 Trades,Drafting and Off Season Discussion Thread

So let's discuss what Eagles need to do at the trade and draft table

Out: Wellingham, Hill, Masten
In: honestly can't see anyone that would help us Fasolo maybe, but think he'll stay at the Pies.

If you guys got offered pick 7 or 8 from the saints for Gaff would you guys take it do you think?

Apparently we were offered that plus Acres already and knocked it back

Honestly, I love Gaffy but if he did actually leave I don't think it's that much of a loss as silly as that might sound. I'd be gutted to lose him, but he is replaceable

As for what we need, with Pridda and Smitch gone how does our midfield look now?

Shuey leading Redden, Sheed and not much more. Gaff plays outside and Hutch gets in there a bit, but overall that's a pretty underwhelming midfield, but I can't see us getting an established gun mid unfortunately

Yeo will need to spend more time in the mids you'd think

NN & Shuey are going to be extremely vital next year

Partington should get a significant run in the midfield by the look of it?

Yeah he'll get more games, but it's basically Shuey or bust

Acres was never 'offered'. He was just apart of the trade rumor because he's from WA.

Just going by what some Saints guy in the know said according to Kyle

Anyway, it's irrelevant really because nothing came from it

Yeah was just a rumor circulating from the half-wits from bigfooty. They all shut up about it once he signed for an extra 2 years.

I could see Gaff for 7/8 happening though. It'll allow you guys to worry about your inside game with 2 guns retiring. Jetta just needs to step up if Gaff leaves.

So what do we think about Ah Chee nominating West Coast as the club he wants to come to?

I probably haven't seen enough of him to form a real opinion, but my initial thoughts are that he might be similar to a lot of what we already have and although we'll happily take him he might not make much of a difference

What do others think?

So what do we think of the Best 22 suggested by AFL.com?

B: Brad Sheppard, Tom Barrass, Jackson Nelson
HB: Liam Duggan, Jeremy McGovern, Shannon Hurn
C: Lewis Jetta, Elliot Yeo, Andrew Gaff
HF: Mark LeCras, Jack Darling, Jack Redden
F: Willie Rioli, Josh Kennedy, Jamie Cripps
R: Nic Naitanui, Luke Shuey, Dom Sheed
INT: Nathan Vardy, Brendon Ah Chee, Daniel Venables, Mark Hutchings

NOTES: Ex-Power onballer Ah Chee should be close to West Coast's best team next year, but balancing the number of inside midfielders will be key with Redden, Hutchings and Sheed playing similar roles. Yeo and Duggan could also be shifted into the engine room. The Eagles need to invest in players with pace at this year's draft and will also hope Shuey clone Venables comes on next year with an injury-free run. Rioli helps solve the crumbing forward problem if he can get fitter over pre-season and stay on the park. Mackenzie's late-season form suggests he will could easily remain in the back six, while Lycett and Vardy are set to battle for the No.2 ruck role.

REMAINING SENIOR LIST: Matthew Allen, Tom Cole, Josh Hill, Mark Hutchings, Malcolm Karpany, Tom Lamb, Scott Lycett, Eric Mackenzie, Chris Masten, Kurt Mutimer, Luke Partington, Josh Rotham, Will Schofield, Jake Waterman, Sharrod Wellingham

REMAINING ROOKIE LIST: Tarir Bayok, Tom Gorter, Fraser McInnes, Jordan Snadden, Francis Watson

I'd like to see him continue to be Adam Hunter 2.0 but I think we are going to need to extend his mid time

Gov, Hurn and Barass can all intercept and rebound down back, with guys like Shep and Nielson providing run out of there too so whilst we will need Yeo to spend time down there through out games, we will need him to be spend more time in the mids I feel because Shuey is going to need help now and although guys like Redden, Sheed and Hutch will try hard we need the polish of Yeo in there a fair bit I feel

I think Yeo will always be a player who plays in parts all over the ground because his flexibility and ability to do so is his biggest strength, but I think we need the percentages to shift so that he is in the mids a bit more next year than what he has been so far

I'd like to finally see Rioli and Venables at AFL level so hopefully they both have solid preseasons but I think looking out our list we probably have a best 18, with the 4 spots up for grabs and to be shared

We need to play some of these kids to see if they'll be any good,no good keeping them on the list especially the length some have already been on our list for if they don't give them a half decent crack at it.

Lamb is such a waste. One of the most naturally gifted players from his draft year and he was never given a decent crack at it. His attitude was much better at EP this season too, but even with senior players like LeCras underperforming he was just made to rot away down there.

I can see him getting picked up by a Vic club and thriving.

I hope he does, because yes he was rated highly and I had high hopes with him, but he didn't get a proper crack it at all, and that's not the first time WCE have done this.

Was going to ask you guys what your thoughts would be if Carlton picked him up and I have got my answer. I remember him being drafted early and playing a game early and then he just disappeared. Hopefully another team gives him a crack.

Feel like we have gone a bit too hard with these delistings, we have made 12 list changes due to retirements/delisting and have picked up Ah Chee, where the hell are we going to get the other 11 players from?

5 picks in the first two rounds then nothing until pick 69 in the 4th, worried we could be scraping the bottom of the barrel to fill the last few spots. Hopefully we are looking at some mature agers from the WAFL.

Pretty happy with the fixture considering we did finish in the top 6
7 of the first 11 at home is nice though would rather that in the second half of the year haha

GWS, Syd away probably two of the hardest games, though Pies at the G is probably a loss  ;D

Happy that we have two games at AO, mark them down as wins  :P

Herald Sun reporting that we might be getting Stephenson, which would be fantastic!

Apparently he has a heart condition which has made clubs wary. Easily a Top 10 pick so if he's still there at 13 then that would be a big steal for us

Thoughts on Best 22?

Title: Re: 2017/2018 Trades,Drafting and Off Season Discussion Thread

B:  Sheppard EMac Duggan
HB:Hurn Gov Yeo
C:  Gaff Redden Jetta
R:  NicNat Shuey Sheed
HF:Allen Darling Ryan
F:  Cripps JJK LeCras
I:   Vardy Venables Barass Ah Chee

Quick crack at a 22

Gee its tough, Priddis and Mitchell leave a big hole! Allen, Ryan and Ah Chee are the three spots that would be up for grabs
Venables is rated very highly internally so I think he will get a crack and I think Vardy has earned his spot over Lycett for the start of the year.

But honestly I have Gov, Sheppard and Hurn locked back 6, Gaff, Shuey and NN in the centre and JJK and Darling in the forward half but other than that I'm not that sure where anyone else is going to play haha

I have a supercoach question for you lads regarding Yeo. What is his best position in terms of supercoach and where do you think he will play this year?

If he plays across half back which is what he did for most of last season he should score well I would assume but would more time in the mids be good or bad for his scoring?

So even tho it's just preseason match what did you think?

Shuey looks primed for a decent year, possibly cops the tag/run with player tho
I liked Vards game better than Lycett having said that tho this is Lycett first game for awhile
Ainsworth tried hard, wasn't scared to get amongst it all
Ryan looked good
Yeo doesn't look like a guy that has had a interrupted preseason
Some of our disposal was poor, hopefully we get that out of the system now

Pretty sure we won't lose a match based on that

Nah couldn't watch it so will try find a replay, very very early days though

McGovern offered 7 million 6 year contract by a Vic club wow seems like these big contract offers are becoming the norm and very early as well before this season has even started

Not sure I'm a fan of these contracts being offered so early. Degrades the game I recon.
