WXV PREVIEWS WRITTEN BY NIGENew Delhi vs Seoul
This clash could be epic, but neither of these sides are at their devastating best. However, you sense that at least one of them is gonna start building to something special in the pointy end of the season. With little separating the two teams, this truly is a contest that could go either way. New Delhi are missing a few key personnel such as Houli and Darling who they would ideally like to have, whereas Seoul have their full strength midfield that when on song, can tear any team apart. Signs may point to a Seoul win, but New Delhi lead the head to head 5-2, and I think they’re gonna add to that this week.
Dublin vs Berlin
Let’s preface this by saying, this is definitely the MATCH OF THE ROUND! The world revolves around Dublin, or at least that’s what Dublin coach Holz will have you believe. It hasn’t been all sunshine and lollipops for the competition’s Irish team. In fact, the luck of Irish has seemingly abandoned them with their depth as shallow as, well… pie. However, even with 14 men last round, they managed to get a victory which if anything, has probably inflated the ego of their coach and has lulled this team into a false sense of security. Have I mentioned that Dublin is clinging on to 8th by percentage? Not the best place to be at this stage of the year. Meanwhile, Berlin has had a few issues of their own, but they sit 2 wins ahead of Dublin and are in the top 4 which would comfort coach Purple 77. However, he’s going to have to nail that captain choice and hope his troops didn’t spend all the tickets last week during representative week. Berlin will desperately want to win this one for a multitude of reasons, include those top 4 aspirations and start clawing back the head to head which reads 5-1. I think Berlin might sneak home here, even with Dublin having the home ground advantage.
Pacific vs Christchurch
Pacific go about their business in a funny old way. The have the scoring ability that few teams possess and yet they’re only 5th having a few hiccups throughout the season. They’ll hope to get star defender Rory Laird back this week which should make a huge difference, especially as Christchurch lose their young gun Harris Andrews due to an unfortunate incident. Speaking of, this team is one that could easily be a threat in finals showing that the old boys still have it, but mix their experience with the stars of tomorrow. A good win from the Kiwis will see them in with a chance of jumping into first with other results going their way. The potent mix at Christchurch should have what it takes to catch Pacific off guard this week and square the ledger, while also taking home the Oceania Cup.
PNL vs Beijing
PNL looked a lost cause in the early rounds of the season, simply playing for pride and probably beginning to work out who they would take with the coveted #1 pick as well as finding inventive ways to retain most of their player base and somehow inject more youth. However, their fortunes have started to shift in recent times with more inspired displays to remind the competition that they still have some fight in a trying year. In stark contrast, Beijing have been soldiering on all season in admirable fashion. After they kept getting wins despite not scoring the best, they have come to life and are pumping out scores worthy of finals contention and at 10-2, they’ll feature in the business end. They will look to put PNL to the sword this week and really beef up that percentage in an effort to close in on Toronto. Beijing with relative ease.
Cairo vs New York
Cairo had arguably their worst week of the season, culminating in their elimination from World Idol where they actually made it further than they had any right going. They key absences of new recruits David Zaharakis and Mitch Robinson were glaring and left holes that could not be covered, and with Zaharakis still a month away and Robinson still not quite ready to come back, Cairo are on their knees waiting for the death blow. All this considered, New York should win easily here, but complacency can’t be on the menu if they want to get into the 8 and be finals bound. A thrashing has to be on the cards here and if Karen’s boys aren’t up to task, we could be looking at a game that may get very ugly, very quickly. New York by plenty.
Cape Town vs Toronto
Last hosts first in what could yet be the most depressing game this week. Cape Town should be doing a millions times better than they are but just can’t seem to pull it together. Their mission now is to get off the bottom of the ladder and make that bottom 6 battle fascinating, unless of course coach GoLions has no intentions of doing so as his assistant coach Pkbaldy scours the land for the brightest talent to reel in. For Toronto, coach Adamant is on the warpath having failed in his task of taking the Alliance to representative glory. To further compound his woes, Jack Macrae is facing a stint on the sidelines at a time where they probably need his capabilities. This Toronto side isn’t about to crumble though, at least not against a measly Cape Town outfit. There’s a reason that one team is 2-10 and the other is 10-2, and if you’re not already sure why, pay attention to this matchup this week and you’ll know.
Mexico City vs Rio
Mexico were always bound to face pain this season but have somehow manufactured 3 wins which their coach would undoubtedly deem a success. The stand out player here is James Sicily who is simply in a different tier to his teammates and is a capable leader. He’ll definitely need to be this week too as Rio will be looking to win a game they probably should. They’ll be doing it without Jeremy Cameron though, whose untoward actions are seeing him take a little holiday which may result in him missing the rest of Rio’s season. The Jags have enough guns to still get the job done here and even a big game from Sicily probably won’t be enough to get the W.
London vs Tokyo
London are a team that seem to forever be stuck in the proverbial no man’s land. They lack stars and have an odd list management approach which is part of the reason for their unpredictable season. The ceiling for this team is not exactly desirable, and their worst is just plain embarrassing. Even coach Ringo has no idea which version of London will turn up any given week which makes things even more wild. Tokyo don’t appear to have much identity either, but to their credit improved over the offseason and have been more competitive this year which has seen them gain a bit of respect. The narrative here is that Tokyo should get a win to continue on their merry way but nobody can possibly say which version of the Royals will come to the party. Still, Tokyo remains a safe bet you would think.
Buenos Aires vs Moscow
The Dillos have surprised many in that their kids are already performing above and beyond expectations. They recently acquired a 5th rising star nomination and we’ve only had 12 rounds. The kids can play and will be out to show they can take another scalp. Their opposition in Moscow are a great mystery as they can be incredibly bipolar. Left field selections aside, their coaching minds somehow steer this ship well enough. Moscow have scored a lot better than their ladder position suggests but at 3-9, they want to break away from the likes of London and Cairo who many would see as inferior outfits. The Dillos sit higher on the ladder at 5-7 and this luck is the kind of thing that they might just be able to pull out this week, and I reckon they will.
Probably my biggest game all year a win would complete our come back.

A few big matches this week, season defining.
Islanders should see the return of not only Laird, but Suckling and Guthrie as well. Along with a rested Jenkins and HGA, we need this win.
Hopefully McVeigh can get up to replace Harris. Ed Richards is due to debut and we'll need him since we may have to flood.
The other end is a problem. Wells and Waite gone for probably forever while their cover in Darcy Moore, Clay and Dickson are all injured too. James Stewart not getting a game isn't ideal but the upside is that Stringer is putting up premo numbers without him in the bombers forward line. Josh Daicos could get dropped at any time and that would mean we'd have just 3 forwards playing. Not that playing him is desirable at all anyway. A few weeks ago it would have looked like we'd maybe drop to 2 playing but Brennan Cox has emerged and looks to be the saviour.
Purps, how many times are we allowed to flood and how many have I used already?

And yes I do have those uses recorded, but... It'll have to wait until I get back from work sorry. I know the max number someone is on is 3.

Because it's partial lockout do we have the option to attack now, meaning we avoid him even though it wouldn't count because first quarter or do we have to keep him on and now Sexton as emergency replaces him?
I think floods and attacks have to be declared at the start of the round, even if partial lockout.

Not sure of the rules RD as can not see them in the thread but Heeney had only 44% TOG. Mot sure what happened in furst quarter but was watching his low stats and noticed only 61% TOG for quarter so he may not have been right initially.

Well as far as I understand as long as a player enters the field in the 3rd qtr their score counts
I think we might just get screwed by bad luck because Heeney shouldn't have been sent out on the field in the 3rd but he was, so for that reason I think we have to cop his 17, well 25 as CC :-X

Having co-captains means you're a 99.9999% chance of not getting the best captain score possible. If they score equal, you get the same. If they score equal and score an odd number, you gain 1 point. If they don't score equal, you have just lost half the difference between them. Tanking.

Crouch (CC) Jelly (CC) Sloane Dmart
Goldy
Jroo hoff hawkins gunston
Holman Hill
Daw Henry Omac
Geez its nice to have a full bench.
im going the gutless CC option
Should get done for tanking tbh
well i would drop Dusty but he just edges out Daw, Henry and Omac
111 150 142 119 113 130 146 158 114 150 139 160 93 141 = 125 average back end of last year and first 4 games
91 88 87 64 103 105 85 88 62 = 86 average.
Basically its like losing Fyfe and then getting a spud like Connor Blakely in return.
The flower did you think i was talking about to give that response
I played Dustin Martin

In fairness you responded to my whole team being named and not just the last line where i was talking about CC.
The flip side to your argument and why many people go for CC is that your far less likely to get a horrible captain score ruining your round.
For example
Heeney CC turned out vastly superior to Heeney C
then i look back at my last few rounds and i haven't picked good captains.
Round 12: Crouch Captain 68 points
Round 11: Crouch Captain 106 points
Round 10: Dusty Captain 105 points
Round 9: Dusty Captain 103 points
Round 8: Crouch Captain 92 points
For me the choice between CC and C comes down to this
1. If you have a guy who is clearly the best option you go C
2. If you think your team is underdogs you go C
3. If you think your team is likely to win easy you should go CC unless you have a clear best option.
4. if you are neither massive under dogs or massive favorites and you have no clear captain then its tough to make a call.
i reckon im in 4.
Dublin i reckon is the toughest team to pick captain at the moment
Tmac - 110 my best player but as a key fwd he is risky and he isnt 100%
Selwood - 107 probably my most solid option but Jelly sometimes chucks in a shocker
Hoff - 104 not a bad option as he has a reasonably high floor
Dusty - 104 normally my go to captain but in shocking form
Crouch - 99 has been incredibly solid except for the 68 he gave me last time i picked him
Goldy - 96 in the best form of any player in my team but a risky option
We've gone Heeney C all year
This week I decided to go with CC - glad I did
Still flowered though

BUT THE ONE TIME I DO!
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED!

Purps, Conca has just gone down
Because it's partial lockout do we have the option to attack now, meaning we avoid him even though it wouldn't count because first quarter or do we have to keep him on and now Sexton as emergency replaces him?
Yeah the brains trust is on the ball here, can't change team format after the first bounce of the round.
And yes, also correct RE: Heeney stepping foot in the third quarter, meaning his score counts.

Mookay done at 3QT, nice
Pacific vs Christchurch is looking like an high scoring affair. Just a lazy 50 touches by Captain Mitchell... nice :)
After Saturday:

Interestingly poised game! Seoul look like setting a challenging score in the 140s to which Captain Sidebum (72) has made hard work of reaching. The Tiges definitely still can though, but I'll back the Magpies with the points on the board.
Yeah, alright then.
*whistles* a big game here! Captain Tom Mitchell has cleansed the sins of the Islanders five sub-70 performers with a MAMMOTH 362 points, making the Islanders destined for 160+. The Saints are going pretty damn well themselves too, but I'm not sure their remaining 5 players have it in them to get 500+ points between them. Islanders for me!
It was looking pretty bleak for a moment there for Beijing, but Captain Grundy, Ward and Breust have corrected the trajectory and look like steering home a win over the Reindeers. Gee, the weekly OOP ruck hurts.
Having felt bad for New York's CC Heeney, Jason Castagna decided the level the playing field somewhat to make this game interesting again! Cairo still hold the advantage thanks to FINALLY getting a ton from it's captain, but the Revolution are definitely still in this match. You know what? New York for me.
Cape Town are putting in a solid performance, but more is needed against our ladder leaders. Toronto for me.
Although this looks bleak for the Suns, they're actually still in this match, thanks to two upcoming OOP forwards to come for Rio. This game ain't pretty, but I expect the Suns to get up actually!
The Royals are putting in a solid showing! 4 tons out of 9 is something I don't think they've had in a while, meanwhile the Samurai are left to deal with an effectively tagged Phillips score as captain. I think the Royals get up here!
The Dillos look to be in a 120+ trajectory IMO, so I think the Spetsnaz get up here. Good to see Jacobs getting back into some form.

Jordan Lewis clearly been paid off by Cairo
WTF Jordy??!!
Hmm. I wonder if not captaining Gawn will cost me the game today...
Thank you muchly for that last quarter Viney, on so many levels.
Cairo in the box seat, but Ess vs Norf will decide it
Higgins off to a flyer as CC

Last year, against Dublin, it was Michael Walters in the Sunday twilight game who got 173 and won the game, just.
Michael Walters, with Nat Fyfe, plays again in the Sunday twilight game, to chase down a massive Dublin lead. Can they do it?!
Just traded in Oliver in SC. Guess I'll take the little win here

For Freos sake I hope so!
Honestly, before Dees v Saints, I was very long odds.
But wow. Gawn, Hibbo, Jones + Viney combine for about 420, and Pluggah, of all people, gets the stinky low score I needed to get back in the game.
Hill, Daw, Goldy + 284 v Fyfe, Fyfe, Walters, Goddard + Hodge
Game on!
also, after Dees v Saints:

So if Newnes' 45 is HGA then it's 415 needed from Ziebell, Stef, Rich, Tucker, Langdon
Need a lift in the 2nd half from you JZ
Need 50 more points from the boys. Come on lads!
Looks like we fell short of 1600, good signs though considering there was six sub 70 scores.
Tigers claw past Magpies
TENSE! Thank god for Stef and Lloyd ey? But really, it was done by HGA at the end of the day, and I reckon Seoul would be bitter about it. I'd hazard a guess Oliver got his lowest career score too.

Sure, you could say CC Heeney getting injured might have been the difference in this game
No might about it. It was the difference :(
Sydney cost us the win the flowerers
Starting to build a head of steam up at the pointy end of the season.
Islanders back in the Top 4, stay there and an away match against either Toronto or Beijing in a Qualifying Final will await.
Let the record show I purposely did not tip us and was as negative as I could be towards our chances in the preview because I knew that if I decided to talk shower and hype it up, we'd lose.
Clearly the strat worked. Go team.
If Mitchell scored a standard 150 instead of his monster score, and we had HGA instead we would have won. Pacific very lucky.

Your the worst team in the 8th, about time you started losing to better teams

look at the extreme: Pacific v Christchurch who is the better team
in my books its Pacific easy given they score almost 10 points more a week. Given this is a fantasy comp and you cant influence your opponent you should look to the points scored.
That why the team that wins SC is the team with the overall most points scored.

What has this got to do with Dublin being the worst team in the 8th
It shows that ladder position does not equate 1 to 1 with who is better.
Saints are higher up on the ladder then Pacific but score about 10 less points a week and if they played the Islanders each week would walk away with a 2-1-10 record.
All the other teams in the 8th have had more HGA that's all. Remove that bonus and we're actually the 2nd highest scoring team.

Fair enough
Id rather have my team and be in 8th, then have the Saints team and be 1st.
lets just see how far the Saints go in finals they have Jing Wolves Cairo NDT coming up.
If im going to make a bold prediction ill say they win 1 more game all year including finals. Playing it a little safer ill predict they will win 2 more games all year.
Pacific lucky that we only had 9 of our best 15 in.
