This just popped up on my newsfeed.

World's premier Test batsman, Kumar Sangakkara is on the cusp of adding yet another feather to his cap as he needs only 25 runs to go past Brian Lara's run tally and slot his name at No 5 in the all-time top Test run-scorers list

Hughes is unbeaten on 71 in the 4-day match against South Africa A.

Certainly doing all he can to get a test call up.

You know what's even better than that?

18th best figures in a test in history, what a beast

Most runs conceded in a 9/10 wicket innings screws him over :3

Re the Sangakkara post:

Leading run-sorcerers in Tests
Player Mat Runs HS Ave 100 50
SR Tendulkar India 200 15921 248* 53.78 51 68
RT Ponting Aus 168 13378 257 51.85 41 62
JH Kallis ICC/SA 166 13289 224 55.37 45 58
R Dravid ICC/India 164 13288 270 52.31 36 63
KC Sangakkara SL 128 11960 319 58.91 37 50
BC Lara ICC/WI 131 11953 400* 52.88 34 48
DPMD Jayawardene SL 149 11778 374 49.90 34 49
S Chanderpaul WI 156 11414 203* 51.88 29 63

Bit messy, but note that Sangakkara's average is so much higher than the next best on that list 58.91 to 53.78 (Tendulkar). Note Jayawardene is currently in his final ever test innings, him and Sangakkara have gone into 2nd place for the highest scoring partnership, behind Dravid-Tendulkar.

Sri Lanka really do have some great players that probably don't get as much praise as they deserve.

Sangakkara, Jayawardene, Murali, Jayasuriya, Mathews, Herath, Dilshan. I've probably missed some but those guys are all some decent quality from the last decade.

There's this lad playing for England that deserves a bit more praise. ;) I think I've mentioned him on this forum a couple of times. Also with the Aussie Sam Robson failing, Adam Lyth might be in line to play for England in the future, a bloke who's stats this season in county cricket are a lot better than the number Gary Ballance put up last season. :)

Might as well throw Malinga in there and Chaminda Vaas wasn't bad either.  ;)

68.2 Saeed Ajmal to Jayawardene, OUT, and that is that. Mahela ends with 11814 Test runs, as he comes down the pitch, looks to go over mid-on, but doesn't reach the pitch of the ball and skies it really high. Shehzad runs back and to his left from midwicket and takes a good tumbling catch, and Mahela walks off, raising his bat to the crowd, big smile on his face
DPMD Jayawardene c Ahmed Shehzad b Saeed Ajmal 54 (137b 8x4 0x6) SR: 39.41

cya Mahela :'( legend of the game.

Sanga is certainly a legend. He is averaging 70 since he gave up the gloves, that's just insane.

Mahela has made a shower load of runs, but I don't consider him in the same class as Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Dravid and Sangakarra. He averages 60 at home, but that drops to 41 away from Sri Lanka. In Australia he averages 31, in England 35 and in South Africa only 27. Kinda tells me that he gets found out against good opposition on proper pitches.

Just for reference, Sachin averages 55 away from India. Including, an average of 53 in Australia, 54 in England and 47 in South Africa. #BestSinceBradman
