Listed above are just some key ins and outs, with a few omitted.
Adelaide United: A lot is going right for this club. Gombau has had a long but successful pre-season continuing to solidify his possession game plan that mesmerized opponents all throughout the last campaign. What some people have not seen is that he is also strengthened his backroom staff with more staff from his days at Barcelona. He has not had to tinker too much with his squad, and rightly so. We do find yet another attacking Spanish player who will undoubtedly add more flair and danger to this side. They will look to get to a better start this year and keep on improving, with the title well in reach.
Brisbane Roar: Reigning champs with some good pre-season form. But Berisha, Berisha, Berisha. How will they go without him? Add full back Ivan Franjic to the list of departures too. They have signed Mensur Kurtisi effectively as his replacement. Expectations will be high for him and the squad this year, and only time will tell to see just how much these two key departures meant for this side.
Central Coast Mariners: Phil Moss with full pre-season under his belt, and after the relative success of last year despite saying goodbye to Arnold, I imagine he will not be changing too much with tactics this season. Transfer activity maybe a tad underwhelming, so questions will be asked about depth, especially in the final third. Top 6 expected.
Melbourne City: What has not been said about this club? New owners, new identity, half a new squad. Expectations are through the roof for this side both from their new mates in the Middle East, and the bookies. David Villas impact (albeit it for 10 games) cannot be understated, while the world class inclusions of Duff and Koren are already working really well in the pre-season. Add Mooy and Paartalu with huge talent; that is one midfield not to be reckoned with. Questions may be asked in the defence, but the potential for this side is scary.
Melbourne Victory: Gunning for the title this year without a doubt. Did well last season, missing out on the final by a whisker. They have added some quality inclusions all across the park, adding huge depth to this side. Berisha up front, supported by Pain, Finkler, Milligan, Valeri; the goals will flow. With Muscat getting improving every day and looking more and more settled, they are my title favourites.
Newcastle Jets: A lot of questions to be asked here. Though some class inclusions, there are doubts as to whether they truly make up for the outs. Faith has been placed, temporarily, in the coach, but fans and culture seem to be slowly dipping. On field, some vast improvements need to be made in order to realise the potential of the many young talents.
Perth Glory: Out with the young, in with old. Yes you read that correctly. Lowe has adopted for experience in all his inclusions, in a bid for short term success. This could be a recipe for disaster, though it might just work if luck goes their way, maybe. Hersi and Keogh will be forces to be reckoned with, while Nicols, Garcia and Zadkovich definitely know their way around the A-League. How this team gels together will be vital in determining their success.
Sydney: Attack, attack. Arnold has come in, identified the area of improvement, and added accordingly. Del Piero has done his time, so in come Smeltz, Ibini, Brosque and Janko. This side performed well at times last year, scaringly well at others, and even better this pre-season. Will be interesting to see who starts each match, but fans will have high expectations.
Wellington Phoenix: Ernie Merrick is an A-League winning coach, with a team so close to the bottom for so much of last season. Though he is a smart coach. He is tipped to move to a defensive tactic, while adding attacking talent to ensure the goals come when they need. Still improvements to be made, but they can pull out some superb performances as seen sporadically last year.
Western Sydney Wanderers: Who needs Ono, Hersi, Mooy, Beauchamp, Polenz and DApuzzo? They are in the Asian Champions League Grand Final, and are showing no signs of slowing down despite these key outs. A lot of credit goes to the manner in which Popovic is coaching. This side is very lucky. Saba is tipped to be their main playmaker, while we will see how the other inclusions fit in to the side.

Luigis tips:
1. Melbourne Victory
2. Adelaide
3. WSW
4. Brisbane
5. Melbourne City
6. Sydney
7. CCM
8. Perth
9. Wellington
10. Newcastle

Golden Boot: Berisha, followed closely by David Williams, Cirio and whoever plays the most games from Sydneys strikers.

Gr8 right up Luigi, can't wait for Friday night! Think Newcastle might be a suprise package, J. Neumann and Flores are both class.

Gotta love everybody writing us off, just like every other season, especially when we were robbed of the title

Keogh is elite, Hersi very good, Nichols+Ferreira+Garcia all good additions. That fat piece of shower who never ran in Smeltz gone is about time, Gallas was horse-shower, then a few old retirees where only McGarry was any good (flower you Jacob Burns you indisciplined dickhead who can't do anything good).

And we're getting Ruka btw :3

Kenny Lowe is the right man to lead us and we'll be back up there again

Vuko (Elite)
Jamo (Elite), Thwaite (Elite), Dulbic (Alright), Risdon (Elite)
Garcia (Pretty good), Hersi (Great), Nichols (Pretty Good), Sidnei (Elite but inconsistent)
Keogh (Elite), Ruka (Elite)

Vuko
Jamieson, Thwaite, Dulbic,  Risdon
Garcia, Hersi, Nichols, Sidnei
Keogh, Ruka

Don't get me wrong. That's a good team and could have potential to tear us all a new one. But look at the new players to the line up who, despite a pre-season, will still need time to adjust to a new team, coach, city & climate, tactics etc. Sidnei seems likely to miss round 1 through injury, and you don't have Ruka quite yet ;)

It's about if the side can hit the ground running from round 1, and whether these players connect well and adopt a cohesive game plan. Your side does look better than last year, though i'd still rather have Smeltz than verse him :P

Cheers man:)  Good inclusions indeed, but will they make up for the players lost? Only time will tell.

Almost fell asleep at the Sydney FC game. Both teams looked rusty.

Too much room to give Villa but still a great goal.

my word the A-League has gone up a notch this season.

My early money would be on another Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory GF. They've both looked sublime in patches and have good depth.... but very early days and as we've already seen there are some very strong teams and just about anybody can beat anybody on their day.

And Besart Berisha has to be without question the most prolific striker this league has ever had.

Wellington Phoenix have  been an early surprise packet; Newcastle look pretty shoddy and early Wooden Spoon favourites; and Brisbane and WSW have struggled early so will need to lift. WSW will though once their ACL tournament is done and dusted. Hope they win it!!

hahahaha i like both of those. Perth gee proving me wrong so far! but haven't been 100% convincing yet so we'll see how they shape as the season wears on.
and lol about Foxsports videos i swear that's my number one issue in life too ahahah. on facebook too they should just post the video instead of a link to a very slow site with ads.

Andy Keogh's a gun but I'm still not 100% convinced about the rest of Perth's squad, although their early form has been pretty good

I still think Victory are the favourites for the title, their squad is jam-packed with talent

Adelaide should've taken the three points against Sydney on Friday night, clearly the better side, just didn't take their chances. AUFC are very underrated in the media too

But yeah, those four sides are the clear frontrunners at this early stage

Pretty much! Im still surpirsed we have managed to draw some of those wins in the dying minutes.. always happens!

I like our side but!

Keogh leading the way. Also Nicholls, Thwaite, Ridson all great players! De Silva is a star when he subs on! Heski is a bit hot and cold. Lacks pace too. VUkavich is a hack... Which could prove to be a problem down the track...

Brisbane finally won. Had to come sooner or later and not a better chance to than against a VERY unconvincing Jets.
Adelaide won as most would've predicted. But did have to rely on a 94th winner.
Draw in the Big Blue. Half of their encounters in their history have been draws, but albeit despite missing key personnel, it could have been a goal fest if it weren't for some brilliant defending and keeping.
WSW lose again. A confidence filled Perth side continued their brilliant run against a very different looking Wanderers.

City v CCM.
WSW v CCM.

Happy to wait for them to prove me right. Have nothing against glory but as an organisation they have proven to fall down a lot.

The bookmakers know their stuff and there is a reason they are 4th favourites to win this year.

If history doesn't determine future endeavours than being top shouldnt mean anything either.

I don't think they have the best list and they dont have the best organisation.

Hahahahhaa omfg I hope you're joking. When there has been a list turnover of about 70% each year for the last 5 years, looking at past results is pointless.

This team, that is out there and together right now is top of the table. That is why it means something.

If history doesn't determine future endeavours than being top shouldnt mean anything either.

Hahahahhaa omfg I hope you're joking. When there has been a list turnover of about 70% each year for the last 5 years, looking at past results is pointless.

This team, that is out there and together right now is top of the table. That is why it means something.
Just using your words ele ;)

Great thing is in a few months we will have the answer

We have recruited well. Number 1 goal sneak Keogh is making a big difference.. Glory have played well in previous years and just had trouble slotting goals... Plenty of chances but a good finisher is what we have lacked. FFA cup finalists too. Cant complain there. Erybody just love to h8 glory!

your organisation still has the same issues it has always had. its always been more than the list. Have had good lists in the past.

you still have the same owner and questionable coaching structure that has always existed. the game is not won just on your squad if it was you should have 1-2 wins by now.

Haha I could see what was going on here.

On one hand, Perth's current list and form is great that does give a level of confidence in making finals.
On the other hand, previous year collapses would be considered... but only if they had the same coach and players. Which is not true.
I come to doubt how much influence Owners or backroom staff have had in previous collapses. Coz if that were true, surely they would've been gone with the previous coaches too.

Summary: Form and list right now points to a promising (but not secured by any means) season. Any team is capable of choking, but reasons from previous seasons change every time.

Peace out. Melb City for the win.

does anyone else think that Melbourne Victory could be the Chelsea of the A-League?

Power club; wear blue; have fantastic depth; fear factor; egotistical managers; and are undefeated

I'm not suggesting that MVFC can go undefeated for the entire season - Adelaide, Sydney and Perth are genuine challengers - but they are looking very strong at this stage.

Also I've seen 13 year old keepers better than Jamie Young, just saying..

What a week down at the Hunter Valley... thrashed 7-0 to Adelaide; lost Marcos Flores, Andrew Hoole and Scott Gallaway to transfers; the players threatening to boycott training and a revolt against Phil Stubbins. So Stubbins goes to his mate Tinkler up in Brisbane and nek minnit...

3 assistant coaches sacked and 5 players - Adrian Madaschi, captain Kew Jaliens, Billy Celeski, David Carney and Joel Griffiths  - all have their contracts terminated.

Newcastle are fast becoming the next Gold Coast United. FFA are gonna have to revoke Tinkler's licence soon.

Something about obese mining magnates and A-League clubs don't go together..

Not if the final is played in Perth  ::)

Not again Holz  :P. We will have Nicholls and Hershi back by then too  ;)

Saying that, the salary cap is stupid and should be removed. The A League can't be a world class league with it.

Not only guys like Cahill, but someone like Lucas Niell as well a few years back.

I see why we have all these salary cap things, but if guys like Tinkler want to own sports clubs they kind of deserve to lose...

Clubs will do what they have to do to achieve what they want. If that means getting sold to people with more money I think it will happen.

Luigis tips:
1. Melbourne Victory
2. Adelaide
3. WSW
4. Brisbane
5. Melbourne City
6. Sydney
7. CCM
8. Perth
9. Wellington
10. Newcastle

Golden Boot: Berisha, followed closely by David Williams, Cirio and whoever plays the most games from Sydney's strikers.

^^My tips from before the season.

Compared to the actual results:

1. Victory
2. Sydney
3. Adelaide
4. Wellington
5. City
6. Brisbane
*7. Perth
8. CCM
9. WSW.
10. Newcastle.

Golden Boot: Janko (16), Berisha (15), Burns (13), Keogh (12)

--------------
Not sure how to judge my judgement on Perth. I didn't tip them to make the 6, and well according to the strict rules, they didn't legally? Obviously i overestimated WSW early on and underestimated Wellington and Sydney. But besides that ladder predictions weren't far off. Got Premier and Wooden Spoon winners correct aha. Got so close on tipping Berisha as the golden boot winner, and technically did get Janko right?? Williams and Cirio obviously didn't bag as many as i'd predicted, Cirio with third in the league for assists though.

--

Even as a City fan i must congratulate Victory for the win. Thoroughly deserved.

You're significantly over-estimating the impact of salary cap breaches on the rest of the competition haha. Yes its bad and needs to be stamped out, but players don't magically play better because they're being paid more than the FFA thinks they are.

this exactly it, players dont play better with more money, but you can afford better players with more money.

                                         P      W     L      D       +     -       =     Points
MELBOURNE VICTORY   27   15   8   4   56   31   25   53
PERTH GLORY                    27   14   8   5   45   35   10   50

cheating or no cheating Victory where better anyway. won more games conceded less goals and scored far far more goals. outscored the league by 25 points to only 10 by Glory.

so you broker the rules and still where inferior.

also Sydney FC where better too. Same amount of points but again a 17 point goal difference to 10.

SYDNEY FC   27   14   8   5   52   35   17   50

So in the end the best and second best team played off in the grandfinal and victory killed them 3-0.

You really think once Glory were banned from finals that they were going to be putting in 100%? The entire incentive is gone. Who cares how they ended up.

The fact you've gone into so much detail trying to justify how 'un-tainted' Melbourne's trophy was clearly highlights the fact you think it needs sufficient justification haha

Haha oh well, good work. The title was tainted. Glory was easily the best team all season until they were found guilty of a salary cap breach.

Funny that when Sydney FC were found guilty they were only fined 44k and docked three points.

But when Glory were found guilty and were fined 269k and banned from finals.

Oh yeah, seems fair.

Dayum the bitterness is real.

But has someone done their research in when and how exactly Glory went over the cap?

I in fact believe that signing Keogh put them just over the salary cap already; but they still decided to buy Marinkovic next anyway. (or maybe it was switch those two names around, but the point remains).

Those two combined is somewhere around 75% of your goals scored, therefore likely around 60% of points on the ladder was due to them, and hence due to cheating.

PS: I do not support Victory in the A-league.

Other states are so threatened by WA's sporting dominance over their poverty-stricken states (Freo going to win the flag by a country mile, BBL champs, 50-over champs, best shield side, best a-league side, best Aussie NBL side, that f1 bloke...) that they have to go into damage control, lmao

From what i undertstand it was part of Keooghs contract that sent us over. Coupel of hundre thous. And then some extra payments that went to Mclaren.

Marinkovic is the markee player, from my understanding there salary isnt counted in cap. Every team allowed 1. So not sure where you spilling you BS from mate..

haha its all g mate chillax. regardless though, i still think that i not even you know fully the financial stats of who was being paid under and over the cap. but the fact that glory had players playing on the field, when according to the law they shouldn't have been there, hence renders their goals, assists, points, minutes; obsolete. therefore unworthy of appearing in finals over those who followed the laws.

I think Keogh had about 250k deposited into his wife's account. On top of his salary which was around 250k as counted in salary cap. So we were 250 over there. And I think Mclaren had certain things paid for... Amounting to around 50k.

Some of those sides in the finals were a disgrace to watch..,, we could of had 6 out and still competed better than them!

Victory just made everyone look ordinary.

might have needed 16 against them, not 6
