Title: Golf
Post by: McRooster on January 03, 2011, 03:26:45 PM
Does anyone here play?

Post your handicap or talk about anything golf in here  :)

I play off 18, B Grade and played at my old man's club Tea Tree Gully this morning for a slightly disappointing 32 points stableford.
Smashed the ball off the tee but 3 putted on too many of the recently cored greens  >:(
I really need to practice more  ::)

I literally live in between two golf courses, though my skills are atrocious and have not had my handicap measures but it would be HIGH. I'm better at sports where the ball is moving towards me - instincts kick in :)

i seem to be worse at those kind of sports, playing golf though has helped me develop my lofted straight drives in cricket  :P

Awesome course. played there once but it like my 2nd or 3rd round of golf ever, so it was pretty bad. Want to visit it again soon! it's $50 a round now isn't it? Normanville have the best bakeries as well...  ;)

Another nice course down that way but a lot cheaper is Wirrina Cove, need a golf cart though if it's a hot day!

I play every now and then with my mates, but not enough to have ever bothered working out my handicap.
I am great with my drives and chips, but rubbish with the irons and putting haha. Always enjoy having a game though.
Recently played in Fiji when I went there on holiday and did pretty well, only played the front 9 and scored 46, which was pretty good for a course I had never played on before and with different clubs to my own

Attamurra is a lovely course, right up in the top 2 or 3 I've played, only played once, would love to play it again. Same with Murray Bridge only played that once, but a very nice course.

That par 3 that has the elevated tee is possibly one of the finest holes I've ever played.

yep for sure the 16th or the one on the front 9? there is a massive drop off from one of the tee boxes on the back nine par 4 or 5 really long its the furtherest point from the pro shop that was my favourite hole i rekn it killed my round too had like an 11 :o i smoked the tee off but the ball was hardup against the base of a tree on a bad side for a right hander and well it just got worst from there :D still loved the hole

My old lady used to live at Normanville when we first came back from Darwin but I never got around to playing there. I did see Gary Sweet at the Yankalilla Foodland one day when I was down there and I reckon it was him and Dizzy Gillespie that a had financial interst in Links Lady Bay wasn't it?
It'd be windy down there wouldn't it? Not sure where the old boy will play when he moves down to the block.
91 at Lady Bay would give me a net 73, that'd be just over par down there? Sounds like we're on the same level.  ;D
Mt Barker/Hahndorf has come along since they re-did the fairways.

Think i hit 9I when I played it, downhill factor, plus I generally hit my 9I pretty well.

and i do lie a little bit when it comes one of the finest holes I've played, cause I love the water hole Par 3 at Flagstaff Hill.

I like playing PAR but get frustrated when you have a birdie and it only goes down as a plus but stableford would have given you 3 points  >:(

My best result has been when I was playing off 24 a while back and I was playing the indexed 1 par 5 at my course. I eagled it for a 6 pointer!!!!

AWESOME pyro  :o :o :o I've never had a Hole in one  :'( closest is 42cm .

I had my 1st ever round under par on Sunday. Shot 71 (1 under) , but I was 3 under after 13 holes. Two bogies in the last 5 holes was a tad disappointing, but I'm still very happy with a sub-par round ;D ;D ;D

Back into the swing again after a bit of a lay-off, Stroke round today with a net 67.  :)
Solid front nine, had nearest the pin on the 211m par 3 5th when we came past (hit my 3iron rescue) and birdied the ninth. A day that could've been went to shower by coming in with 8, 8 , 4 on the last three holes  >:(

What driver do you use pyro?

I have a Bridgestone J33R 10.5 degree 460 with a 65 gram regular shaft.

Playing a format tomorrow I've never played before. It's a four man team event, 3 play Ambrose and the rotating fourth plays the hole on their own. Not really sure how the result will be accredited but it should be good fun on the long course of Gawler (Sandy Creek).

The format last week was interesting, it really put the pressure on the second drive. Basically, everyone tees off and generally the best tee shot would see that player play the hole out by himself. From the second best tee off the other three would play it out as an ambrose. Scores for the hole were combined (individual say has a 5 and ambrose group has a 4, then in the scorecard it goes down as a 9).
We had 161, I played 8 holes out by myself.

Today was back to my home club and we played par. I was all over the place, hit the ball long but had 6+'s and 7-'s for a net result of -1  :P
Shot of the day by me from 65m out on the 17th, D Rained it  8) - Was to save par and grabbed the plus  ;D

Played stroke today, net 76  >:(

Trialled the new Taylor Made 10.5 Ultra fast driver, very quick through the air and very light. Took too many disasters holes to realise I needed to reset my tee height to compensate - I had a 9 on 15 (2 out of bounds) ::). Me thinks I'll be sticking with the Bridgestone for a while longer. Greens had been cored and sanded also made it tough going.

Tossing up Marc this year whether to make the annual 'lads' trip a trip to Melb for footy or to Pt Douglas for a golf trip.

Had a terrible weekend. Shot 81 off the stick (76 nett), hit the ball showerhouse. Then backed up to play pennants on Sunday and got beat 4 and 3.

I'm heading up north to play Bonville and Hope Island in May. Two of the best golf courses in the country so should be a great experience.

40 points today  ;D (20 on the front/20 on the back) - no scrubs! - definitely keeping the Bridgestone, there's plenty of length and life in her still. Out drove my A Grade playing, 7 handicapped mate on 5 holes today - by some margin on 3 of them. Changed balls from Taylormade Burner LDP's to Bridgestone and loved the length I got.

One of my other mates (who plays off 23) had 25 on the front with a scrub and a 1 pointer (including a 2 for 5 on the par 3 seventh) - he finished with only 38, couldn't make a putt on the back  >:(

Schwartzel or what ever his name is, birdied the last 4 holes to steal the jacket off Scott, you thief!

great final day though, heaps of action a some movers as well. Can feel for McIlroy, would've been hard to take that, especially making that triple bogey, he'll learn that and become a better golfer. Just proves you can't make 1 mistake around Augusta, if you do, the course will kill your round

with easter around the corner a great buy.

website called scoopon http://www.scoopon.com.au/adelaide played Mt Lofty a few weeks ago with a similar deal. Shot 96 on a damp day, would've been lower if dry. Putted alright 34putts 18/16 which is good for wet & soft greens.

As discussed in the Elite chat, I had an 8 point front nine but turned at the clubhouse for a back 23....meh! Overall an ok first up effort at a new course.

The enlightening part of the whole day was that I met Peter Motley (who is a regular member at Blackwood) and found his company and humour to be thoroughly enjoying and uplifting. Pete still hits the ball pretty well, walks with severe impediment but retains a wicked sense of humour. He closes each weeks Wednesday presentations with a 'Pete's funnies' jokes segment and 2nites was side splitting, revolving around one liners in a nudist colony....

An inspiration and truly premium guy, thankyou Peter.

I'm currently on holidays up on the Gold Coast, playing some of the finest golf courses in the land of oz. Played at Bonville International Golf Course (near Coffs Harbour) on Wednesday and shot a very pleasing 80 off the stick (my handicap is 5). If anyone is planning a golfing trip up north, I recommend playing a round at Bonville. It truly is an amazing layout.

On Friday I made the journey up to the (not so sunny) Gold Coast and played at Hope Island near Sanctuary Cove. Another amazing layout, but with many more fairway bunkers and undulations than Bonville. After being 6 over after 7 holes, I managed to go even par for the final 11 holes (with 3 birdies) to shoot a six over par 78. $140 a game at hope island, but with GPS in the golf carts to help with distances and pin locations, it was definitely worth it   :)

Tomorrow is the final leg of my tour, where I play Palm Meadows Resort near Carrara. I'm hoping for another sub 80 round   8)

try to get out  as often as possible, but it never seems often enough,  100 shots seems to be the magical mark for me atm, so whats that around 30 handicap.  if only i could putt i reakon i could take 10 shots off my score,  nothing worse then getting on green in reg. than 4 putt  arhhhhhhh the pain, the pain.  its sad when a bogey gives ya a chubby  :)

its a scoring system called stableford, you get points on each hole based on your score, a par (to handicap) is worth 2 points, a bogey to handicap worth one point, double bogey or worse 0 points, birdies to handicap are worth 3, eagles 4 etc. to play to handicap for a round is 36 points
Title: Re: Golf
Post by: upthemaidens on July 11, 2011, 07:06:12 PM
thanks pyro,  as soon as i read stableford i gave myself a face palm. ive seen sableford in match set ups on tiger woods golf, but just dont normally play it..

i do have 2 more question now though.   is it a better way to keep score ( a more acurate representation of a round)?
and how does a handicap relate to a single hole  i.e. lets say a handicap of 14 , what would be a par 4?  would u just add 1 shot to each hole?

stroke is a more accurate way of showing your score, stableford you dont necessarily count all of your shots (if you have a really bad hole) but stableford is good to play occasionally as it may speed a round up slightly, and the scores are usually better

on a handicap of 14 (which is exactly what im on :P) you would be allocated 1 shot on each of the 14 hardest holes, there is an index on the scorecard for a course rating their holes from hardest (index 1) to easiest (index 18), meaning you would get 1 shot on the holes indexed 1 to 14

thanks pyro,  as soon as i read stableford i gave myself a face palm. ive seen sableford in match set ups on tiger woods golf, but just dont normally play it..

i do have 2 more question now though.   is it a better way to keep score ( a more acurate representation of a round)?

awsome thankyou,  now everything makes sense  haha  i had always wondered what the index on the scorecard was for.
so i can add 2 shots on atleast half the holes  lol   brilliant ::)     i might try it next time i go out for a hit.

At least I managed more points today than the Crows - 29 for me (12 front/17 back).

Really struggled to get going today after a 6/1 start, scrub second etc. My tee shot from the 4th  :-X Spat the chewie at 7 and began the climb back at 8 after driving the par 4 and making the 3 for 3points.

Used a new Odyssey putter today and it had a great feel, definitely time for the Bridgestone driver though to get a siff shaft or upgraded to an r11  :-\ - Was going to try a demo today but the Pro didn't have a stiffy  :P

lol roost, judging by the fact that you drove a par 4 i think you definitely need a stiff shaft :P

-8 for me today in a dismal par round ::)

That par 4 is 265m and green is elevated, definitely had some angry heat on that poor little TaylorMade Burner ball.

Was perfect weather over here (ground still a bit mushy here and there) bad luck for you pyro, that was my score a couple of weeks back. I'm seeing some positives in my game atm but it is frustrating not stringing the good bits together on any given day.

Looking forward to our Holden Scramble on the 21st August  8)

it gets ridiculously frustrating when you cant string together >:( thats a fair whack too ;) the wheather was great here but the ground was mushy as all hell, was annoying to bomb a drive only for it to finish 1 inch from its pitch mark :o

A 1 Iron... I haven't seen one of those since my first hand me downs when I was 12.

I am now starting to play more golf, having got my clubs out again. I stopped after getting this set as it ruined my drive and I just kept slicing. But 5 trips to the driving range in the past 2 weeks has almost completely eradicated it. Now to just improve my game to when it use to be with my old set and it will be going good again.

Playing 9 at Skye on Tuesday then 18 at Centenary Park on the weekend for 18. Hopefully it goes well.

used to play off 14. joined aces again this yr (builders/architects golf day run by fielders) and can't wait to play koo and glenelg later in the year. even bought new golf clubs... beautiful titleists and they just sit there :(

You up for a game Michael? You'd prob kick my arse.
Not so sure about that Wes  :-\

I played last Saturday and had a promising front 9 with 17 points and no scrubs - finished with 24 points, nuff said  >:(

Any time you want Wes, PM me and we can hook up - I'm a member at Highercombe or maybe you'd prefer if I arranged a game with me an the ol' man who is a member at Tea Tree Gully.

i started playing golf a couple months ago, and i really get my moneys worth  ;D

im from melbourne and have only played at Keilor Golf Club and Melton Golf Club

Will never be going to Melton again, nearly every hole is a dog-leg par 4 or 5, and you can hear traffic at every hole

Keilor Golf Club is so relaxing, only hole you can really hear the traffic is the 3rd because it runs right next to the highway

But Im slowly getting better Par 70 Course, Started off with 135, now down to 120 after playing 5 times... need to work out how to tee off without slicing... every time i tee off,  it goes to the right  no matter which way the wind is going, and when i try to compensate, it goes left . . ive only been using a $200 dunlop set, but i dont see the need to buy an expensive set when i  cant play properly.

my uncle gave me his slightly dinted $200 dollar driver, and a few times ive hit straight down the fairway, about 150 yards, but other then that i struggle.

Putting i dont have much problem with, usually get it in with 1 or 2 putts, its just getting to the green can take me anywhere between 3 and 10 hits. lol

We all have to start somewhere Edge, the strength of character you show by coming back again says alot for how you want to get better at the game  8)

As for the slice, I'd say as a new player you are keen to see where your tee shot has landed almost before you've hit it, that's natural. It's exciting to hit the ball long but you must remember to keep your head down. Lifting your head too early to see your shot opens your shoulders and hence the slice as your body opens to more of a cover drive position.

A few tips...
1. Head remains down through the entire shot
2. For wood/driver tee shots, align your tee forward in your stance with say the inside of your forward heel and for iron shots from the tee take a more central stance.
3. Maybe turn your front foot slightly back toward your rear foot and rotate your lower hand in the grip a little forward to close the face
4. As you begin your backswing arc, cock your head just a little so your forward shoulder is in line with the ball on the tee
5. Transfer your weight forward through your hips
6. Don't belt the shower out of it, relax and swing smoothly

Hope that helps a bit.

*Oh, and head to the driving range  ;)

Thanks for the tips McRooster

Funny thing is, at the driving range about 90% of the time they go dead straight and get close to the 200 sign.. not sure if its yards or mtrs ...

ive hit the 175 sign a few times ..

when i get some more money i'll be heading back to the golf course hopefully once a week, maybe twice if i get time

if i can get down to 110 by the end of the year ill be happy.

also, how come sometimes when i play, i get a sharp pain through my left hand/fingers? am i gripping too tightly or does this only happen to me?  \=

Scramble Result, 57 and 3/8ths = 6th, just outside of the prizes  >:(

I hit the ball B I G with a Taylor Made Burner (stiff shaft) and had my name on the card for the compulsory three drives after only four holes - + held the longest drive on 12 until the second last group  ::)
Strategy played a strong card today and left us with three holes to close and one player to have to make two tee shots (a little nervous) but Birdie, par, birdie almost got us some chocolates.
The tee shot on the 10th par 3 (our final hole) was the shot of the day with my mate lacing out a VERY nice 165m 7iron within 2 inches of the hole only to get a metre of suckage and win nearest the pin, nicely finished off on his own for the bird  8) - A nice 6 pack of Cascade Premium for his effort!
But it was what happened leading into that hole that proved the highlight of the day, my other mate had picked up from nearly 55 out after slicing into the pine trees and threw his ball at the green in disgust and yep, you betcha, it went IN!!

A day that could have been but was most certainly enjoyed.

Sure did pyro, my mate plays off 7 and always hits one less club than me, I learn a lot from him - sweet to watch  8)
I took 6 iron and was pin high but just left of the green  :P

The tee is elevated but has a tricky cross breeze across the green face (after the tunnel of pine trees opens) where the valley breeze comes screaming across the adjacent pipeline.

Didnt end up playing Centenery but did rather average on skye. Use to be a late better, but with my stroke being off and disliking my putter I am hitting a 50. Thats about 15 over., Absolutely terrible. I use to go around Royal Park in 32 which was 4 under. Not good but whatever. It will improve as I get back playing more.

I'm in LOVE  :-*

First hit out with the R11 today, sublime from the tee.

Had it set at 10 degree with 10/1 gram correction, magnificent!

*Pyro - I drove the par 4 8th I've told you about previously (265m uphill) but caught the long grass just to the left, slightly past pin height. Due to the quick greens, windy conditions, long grass I was caught in, + my ineptitude, I closed the hole for a 7  :o after basically driving the bloody hole  >:(

flowering golf!

Finished with a net 70. Found myself playing irons from unchartered territory due to the extra length from the tee and couldn't compensate. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

But overall, $350 bucks well spent (Pro owed me a hunge  ;))

Sounds like my other playing partners on Saturday, I let the guy who didn't perform know about it as last time I played a 4BBB with him the same thing happened :P

nice handicap Baz 8) my course is one of the harder ones in my area so I'm good when I go to other courses :P however with my course also being a bit open it hasn't forced me to be the straightest hitter so I do struggle at times on other courses :-X

Nothing worse than playing well in a 4BBB while your partner plays crap.

My course is tight with a bit of water, but it is very short (5,800m par 72). I am a very good chipper and putter, so I still regularly par holes even if I find trouble off the tee.

Nothing worse than playing well in a 4BBB while your partner plays crap.

I'm a terrible chipper and putter at times :P I am very good at hitting big hooks around trees though (I wonder why ::) :P)

The new handicapping system changes have been finalised, and my handicap has dropped from 4.7 down to 4.3 (as expected). It is going to be very tough to play off 4 as I've been off 5 & 6 for the past 12 months, especially as I've got into a routine of which holes I get shots on for stableford and fourball comps.

Personally I think the changes are great, as there are many golfers who have intentionally 'blown out' their handicaps by manipulating the system. The new handicapping structure definitely advantages the better (lower handicapped) golfer, which is the way it should be   :)

Well, I'm already cutting shots off my rounds again as I get back into it. Just gotta get my drive going right again and it will be complete as that is the only low point now. Costing me a fair few shots. :P

I play off 16 at my local 9 hole course Tambo Valley :D
Don't play fanatically, just more for a bit of fun and something to do on a Sunday.
Haven't had a competitive bash for about 3 months now  :o

lol Shaggy you sound like me :P

I agree Baz, I was starting to feel myself that my handicap was blowing out and giving me an unfair advantage (only because of my bad run of form) which is all well and good for when somebody is out of form, but if they hit form again they could have a crazy score

I played today at Patawalonga (South Course) with an old mate of mine. It was hot. My form really dropped on the second nine after getting quite tired and underhydrated. Went out in 42 for the front and came in with 52 for the back, 94 off the stick   >:(
My mate, who I used to do private training with, went out with a 53 and came in with a 48, 101 off the stick. He doesn't have a handicap but has some good shots in the bag. What it did show to me was how out of condition I've become and my sporadic attempts at getting out and playing in the last 4 months (winter golf sucks) has really let my form slide.
I didn't hand in a card today of course but think I may have slipped out to 22 with the new handicap system after being at 18 only 12 months ago  :'(

R11 is working ok, 4 iron is my hot stick atm, new soft face Odyssey putter nice enough - it is just the fade out outs I am having due to lack of fitness and irregularity (I don't mean bowel wise  :P). My bread and butter shot, the wedge from 100-110 out seems to have left me. I had put it down to the R11 giving me unexpected distances of the tee, but it is actually because my golf sucks balls atm. Need to get more regular.

38 pts with 4 scrubs and a 1 pointer on the first  :o - This included two 4 pointers and seven three pointers.

On the 11th I hit out of bounds, then put the next 270 up the guts, 100m out and dropped it on to within 6 feet. Would have been birdie if it wasn't for the first tee shot but I did still salvage the two points  8)

Higlhight was my birdie on 10 after having two Bratwurst sausages and a West End at the BBQ shed. This usually involves a social wager with the volunteer running the BBQ shed about who can make the green (180m elevated tee Par 3), this can be difficult as the green is open to the valley breezes whilst leading to the hole itself is protected from wind by high pine trees on both sides. Only five bucks was put on today and at least paid for my sausages  :)

Tiger Woods suffered the biggest matchplay defeat of his life today â€" but it was still the Americans who began the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne much the better.

Woods and Steve Stricker, hammered by a cup record-equalling 7&6 margin by Adam Scott and KJ Choi, were the only United States pair to lose in the opening foursomes.

Ogilvy has let it get away from him, Poulter now leads the JB Were Masters by three shots with 5 holes to go.

Xmas ambrose for me yesterday, 57 1/8 net left us three shots off the Ham and Turkey  :'( - Seven birdies and one eagle in our group (the eagle on the back of my 260m drive across the dog leg - over the valley of sin - on hole 4, to land 6 feet from the pin  8) )

I have been getting into golf more and more lately, just about all the males in my family play so it was inevitable that I'd get into it eventually and I have now. Haven't got a handicap yet since I have only played a couple of times, been spending a lot of time at the driving range.

It's the opposite for me :P I have stopped doing it now, but when I first started playing golf I was just cover driving the ball pretty much because I was just so used to cricket :P

Played the Valley View par 3 course on Australia Day as a fine tune, played 3 balls off every tee and came in with 178  :)

Had two eights (3,3,2) and was really surprised at the result of a more relaxed swing, easing the shoulders out and not punishing the shot, good lessons learnt.

Will certainly do it again to help short game.

I don't play that often, just once or twice a week... Never practice  :P
not bad chumps ;) I'm off 11 and do the same as you :P in fact, when I used to practice, I could only ever get down to 14 lol
Yeah, I just can't be flowered practising anymore  :P
Doesn't help when you can't drive to the course either  :(
yeah I can't drive to the course :-\ In a few months I should be able to though :P (provided I get off my ass and get some hours up lol)

Glad I checked my emails tonight, found this scoopon deal in them.

that's a dead set bargain.

This Sunday, top 16 individual match play play off.

Roost, ranked 7 - playing 10th.

We play nine holes for the top nine, then the highest ranked winner sits out the next nine whilst the remaining eight play off over the next nine. Thus there are five left to play in a five way over nine, then three, then two.

The champion is decided over sudden death, as long as it takes.

Celebratory drinks at The Rising Sun Hotel in Lobethal afterwards  ;D

*FYI, I won the skins tournament a fortnight ago and grabbed a NTP  8)

Thanks pyro. You'll be in single figures soon enough. Just remember to enjoy it, good and bad  ;)

The format was laid out a little different than I expected and so was my form. I made it to the last four and played my best mate for a spot in the final. We went round 9, two all - two sudden death holes later we shook hands and I became his caddy for the final.
The other two vying for the final spot also went to two sudden death holes.
My mate lost the first hole of the final and the favourite looked to be on his game.
But golf is a funny game sometimes and they went into the last hole 2 all (some spectacular golf being played). The favourite takes honour, drops it 12 meters short of the green, on fairway but with some heavy pine needles to contend with. My mate makes it to front edge, still 20ft from the pin. The favourite chips past the hole, maybe eight foot or so. My mate putts to within 10cm..a gimme
So, the favourite now has to make an eight footer to send the final into sudden death, he takes line, the gallery hushes....he glazes it past by two feet and my mate wins!! 8)

38 holes in one day, bloody fantastic fun!

*Two of my other mates played off in the bottom 16 final, with that also going to 1 hole of sudden death - congrats to both.

hey col, off 2 at 16 :o could have made something from it at that stage, having said that though, I'm sure you would have made a career out of going to uni ;)

@roost I flipping hope so, sick of being someone who plays like a 6 handicapper but can't make a score :P

haha yeah i could have gone somewhere, unfortunately developed the yips with my chipping and putting when i was fiddling with my long game.....totally destroyed my touch and wrecked my game, got to the stage where i was shooting 80's after hitting 15 greens in reg...was rediculous. Its taken 8 years of only playing casually to get some sort of natural touch back in my game, can't wait to be well enough to get out and play regularly again and see how low i can get

so after a 2 year hiatus from golf i got the clubs out today and struggled. Now im no golfer, more of a hacker, but shot 104 for a par 70. Best score i have shot ever, i think for 18. But on the 16th i pulled a hammy, never done that on a golf course before.

Out drove everyone by 50m, putted well, short game was below par though

went out again today, different course and shot 104 on a par 72 and finally got my first birdie after 20+ years of trying. Stoked beat my dad for the first time as well off the stick by 2 shots and picked up 33 points as well coming in 4th. The people i played with were surprised that i didnt have a handicap as i drove well today again (and hit an 8-iron 140m, i think that is ok, yeh?) Pity i couldn't control it

And the hammy feels fine for now.....

good job tabs :D

yeah hitting 8-iron 140m is a fair distance, I hit my 8-iron about 140m (although fairly high, and with blades which aren't designed with distance in mind - all control), I suppose 15-20% of club golfers would hit an 8-iron that far or further, maybe slightly less

i thought that was the object of the game, to get value for the shots. The more shots you take the lower the cost per shot. $20 to play 100 shots, 20c per shot

yep i here you, my slice kills me sometimes. Then when there is a dog leg right i usually nail it straight

Lydia Ko is currently the 2 time champion amateur at the Ladies Masters in Canberra (not bad for a 15 year old)

she is trying to win the event again later this afternoon

Was going to start a new thread to see if anyone here plays but did a search and found this.
I'm a club member at Waiuku (Auckland) ... Have been for nearly 20 years...except for about 4-5 years  between when I moved south and joined Taihape and Waiouru in the Central Plateau of the North Island, took a break, returned to Waiuku but joined nearby Clarks Beach for a couple of years.
For most of that time my handicap has ranged between 9-14. I'm currently on 14 but expect to be back down to a 10 or 11 by the end of summer. Shot 77 (+6) for 44stableford pts ... Good enough to win the div 1 comp and take home the Xmas ham.
I'm not one for watching it on TV... Aside from the British Open I don't watch any golf at all... Playing it though is another story.

Funny that you bump this thread back into action Zedder; I don't play at all for most of the year while I'm studying down in Melbourne, but I'm back home for the summer and shot a personal best 36 (even) off the stick the other day. Hit 7 greens in regulation and only had one birdie  :o

Haha nice! Summer's always the time for carving a few shots off the handicap provided the course doesn't get too dry.

Solid golf mate. Well done! Where did you play?
I played in Tuesday morning haggle (comp) with a bunch of fellow members at Waiuku again this morning. Shot 78 off the stick mostly thanks to 4 monster putts. 43 stableford and came 1st again but only about 12 in the field today compared to 50 odd on the weekend. Handicap is going to well and truly going to get chopped.

Disappointing to see Day falter towards the end of his round this morning after starting so well :-\

How about old Ernie Els though :o http://www.foxsports.com.au/golf/ernie-els-has-an-absolute-shocker-on-first-hole-of-the-masters/news-story/623ddf87cac31157877e6238792280d8 (http://www.foxsports.com.au/golf/ernie-els-has-an-absolute-shocker-on-first-hole-of-the-masters/news-story/623ddf87cac31157877e6238792280d8)

Would be hard to keep going after that on your first hole.

And feel for Eels on that first green - makes us hacks feel good.

That Els 7 putt was unbelievable. Would have been easier to hole some of those putts than miss. 4 putts happen occasionally from long range but 7 lmao.

Playing a handicap pennants practise round at Royal Auckland in a couple of hours in preparation for a matchplay pennants competition there on Sunday. Have won two, lost two this year. Fared a lot better last year when I was the team's best player and won 6, halved one and lost one. The loss was to a 12 year old though. :-[
Royal Auckland is a beautiful course, it's just a shame that the members are all tossers and they make you wear tailored shorts, tucked in shirts, etc. Will enjoy the course but not the tucked in shirt bit or seeing a bunch of fat guys with their guts busting to freed from their belts and shirts. :)

Cheers Ringo. Played yesterday. Had the odd shower and was windy. Today is much better, sunny with little wind.
Hope you are enjoying your stay in NZ....it's not a bad place to be. Hopefully it's fine there as Taupo is much nicer on a good day as can see the mountains to the south of the lake.

Nice round mate! Would love to be able to shoot that low, but don't get out enough to improve my game :-\

Went out 2 weeks ago and shot a 93 with 1 birdie. That's about average for me. Disappointing thing is I felt I played pretty well, but I don't capitalise enough on holes that I play well.

In good form at the moment. Just back from twilight comp. 36 off the stick tonight for 9 holes (1 over). Played off 2 handicap tonight (for 9 holes) and will be cut another shot next week. Considering my present handicap is 13 ( handicap for 18) I've got my work cut out for me in twilight comps in coming weeks.

Stoked to have shot 1 under 34 on the back 9 at my home course, Waiuku today. Think I’ve done it before but can’t say for sure. Had many even par 9 holes where I have been under the card and blown it on the last hole or two. Anyway birdied 10, 12 and 14 with bogeys on 16 and 17. Had 43 on the front for 77 (4 better than my 10 handicap). Good enough for 7th in div 1... too many burglars out today haha.
