Title: WXV Round 14: Seoul Searching
Post by: Purple 77 on July 03, 2018, 08:56:59 PM
Thursday night game again, so mind the 7.20pm partial lockout that night!

Round 14, AFL Round 16

Home Team                             Away Team                             Venue                                                                                 Head-to-Head
Dublin DestroyersMexico City SunsCrooke Park5  v  4

PNL ReindeersBerlin BrewersStade de Gerland, EurAsia, Europe, Europe Cup4  v  3

Cape Town CobrasTokyo SamuraiNewlands Cricket Ground4  v  2
New York RevolutionBuenos Aires ArmadillosMetLife Stadium, AAP Alliance, Americas3  v  3
Rio de Janeiro JaguarsToronto WolvesMaracana Stadium, AAP Alliance, Americas2  v  1

The Destroyers form at the moment is well timed, whilst the Suns notched up a victory against an underwhelming Rio side. The 10th encounter may not be as monumental as others in the past, but seeing these two sides play against each other is always exciting. Dublin for me.

The Tigers got themselves a fine victory over Seoul last week, but again relied on HGA in the end to get the job done. I dunno, they're not as scary as last year. The Spetsnaz are a danger game for New Delhi - well they would especially be if Treloar was available - and  even moreso if Dochers & co were available too. New Delhi, but tentatively.

The Royals came to play last week, scoring one of their better scores of the year with 137. Perhaps there's a pulse in this team yet! The Magpies simply need to win this game, but the next 150+ score just seems further and further away. As the title suggests, I feel like the Magpies need to find themselves again, and recapture that 2017 form that got them to the Grand Final. Seoul though, for me.

The Sands are admittedly a bit wary of this game, and the potential for Pacific to heap more pain on the "Scored Against" column of the ladder. The Islanders just look like THE team at the moment, and look destined to play Toronto in the GF. The Islanders for me.

The Reindeers are showing a bit of life in their season! Perhaps in the wake of the retirement of club star Cyril Rioli, they'll be inspired to take on the vulnerable and Fyfe-less Berlin. Oh, how ordinary we truly are without him.

Two impressive and finals-bound teams go head to head in my MATCH OF THE ROUND! The 'Jing midfield is in full force at the moment, with number 2 ruck in the game Brodie Grundy leading the much acclaimed awesome foursome. The Saints though, I feel,  have just been absorbing injury carnage all year and still churning out premo scores. No Sandi? No worries. Well, maybe a small one. Beijing for me.

The Cobras were gallant in defeat against premiership fancies in Toronto; one thinks they should have used that performance against a fellow team in the bottom 6! Oh what's this? An opponent the Cobras can take down, and have been having serious form issues of late? Tokyo all the way.

The Revolution take on perhaps the team I like most from afar, and it could be a close game!I like the Dillos, coz (whilst respecting coach trading skills), they are my mascot for the salary cap :P and I think they've been going awesome. The Revolution though, despite being potentially Heeney-less, have a bit more firepower for now, and should get the job done.

The Jags might not have much hope against Toronto based off recent formlines, but upsets do happen! The Jags will face instant improvement shuffling their team around, but not sure if they'll get the 140+ score required to catch the Wolves on an off day.

Pacific will have their worst game all season and we’ll match them for scoring and win on HGA.

The two remaining titans of the worlds battle it out. Shame Puma's are no longer.

Early signs suggest that Dublin might be a little too focussed on their trophy cabinet this week, the perfect opportunity for Mexico to roll through and square the ledger at 5 wins a piece perhaps?

all relative. Id love for Omac to be putting up 70.

The 72nd best defender is a 72 average which is assuming no injuries of course. with injuries and people not making the 22 then a 70 is basically D4 quality for your average worlds team.

70ish - defender
84ish - midfielder
72ish - forward

id say those are probably your decent starter numbers.

Just scraping in to D4 in an average WXV team is atrocious from a guy that has been talked up so much. Ed Richards is averaging 82.4 from his past 5. If Weits is worth pick 1 then Eduardo is worth the entire first round.

In that case you can SUPER MEGA ATTACK and name 7 forwards, but it'll cost you 3 of your 5 attack/floods. I'm just using the 2 with the SUPER FLOOD.

Hahahahahaha, can I super attack? Just lost Carlisle, Pittard, and Mullett to go with Bowes, Mills, and others in defence already injured. I might only have 1 defender this week...
In that case you can SUPER MEGA ATTACK and name 7 forwards, but it'll cost you 3 of your 5 attack/floods. I'm just using the 2 with the SUPER FLOOD.

Hmm, would use up all of my remaining attack/floods, tough call ay
Clearly tanking if you don't.

I guess it's too late to say now, but I'm happy enough in general to allow "conditional team formats" under very special circumstances IE if player X doesn't play, then go back to tradional format

But as long as you state it before the partial lockout, and you are locked into that condition.

Nobody really interests me on that list anyway, its very average compared to teams like moscow and cairo

I have Rance May Davis Birchall Henry daw evw and possibly hill so im not desperate for defenders i just want another solid premo.

Witherden + first rounder for Holman? Actually might have to chuck in our second round pick as a sweetener to get it across.

Nah it'll be a couple of rookies that have played a handful of games (like Holman and Henry) for a premo

Don't be silly Rico. Dublin would never intentionally rip-off another coach and always has the best interests of the team they're trading with at heart. They never make lowball offers and instead look to offer up players of value. I'm really looking forward to the trade period at the end of the season to hopefully see more mutually beneficial trades from Dublin. :)

Well obviously id do that deal if you offered it.

Witherden has showed that he can put up a 80 average over a season. How much he will improve is hard to gauge he could be one of these guys who jumps out of the blocks and then improves slightly or he could take his game to a whole different level. Always a chance he could pull a Burton next year. Could also pull a Howe

Probably the type of guy id avoid personally as he costs alot given what he has done early and id rather pick up a guy a little less proven or a guy more proven. He hasnt done enough to be a lock solid premo for me but would cost lock solid premo prices.

I might be wrong but on the open market id say Vlastuin might fetch slightly less but would be a guy id much prefer over Witherden. Slowly building up and has shown years of 75+ so at worst is very serviceable. Still only 24 years old so 6 years left and just starting to enter prime.

For the record thats a break down on Dublin 101 trading strategy. i take the more scoring proven option normally. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, like losing superstars Docherty, Scahrenberg etc..

Not bad Bradley Lynch. Been waiting for this bloke to show his talent, the best dual-sided player I have ever seen as a junior.

flowering Newnes is now in the same boat as Hanners. Had enough of his shower. Hasn't hit 100 all year and another 40odd score yesterday

Free to a good home. Or a bad one. Don't really care

Boy am I glad that they’re your problem and not mine. We dodged a bullet there, especially with Hanners.

McVeigh, Shaw, Wells, Waite, Sandilands, Griffen and Ablett are all gone one way or another so I'll need some players to replace them. I'll give you my last two picks for both of your duds.

London Royals (788) from 10 vs Seoul Magpies (1157) from 11#

New York Revolution (731) from 9 vs Buenos Aires Armadillos (931) from 10**
Rio de Janeiro Jaguars (732) from 8# vs Toronto Wolves (704) from 9

# = Captain Played
* = one Co-Captain Played
** = two Co-Captain's Played

Dublin are back I reckon. A couple more of these performances and dare I say, back into premiership calculations  :-X the Suns though are putting in a much better showing than last week.

Interesting game this one! Despite being well served by half the team, the other half of New Delhi have  capitulated, leaving the door open for Moscow. A fortunate sub performance from Stretch as kept the Spetsnaz in the game, who need a solid 120+ from captain Heppell if they have any chance at winning. You could almost say Moscow's last 5 players are its best ones! This will be one  to watch!

London aren't doin that bad, but Seoul - true to this week's dedicated theme to them - have dug down and may look to hit 160 if things go well!

Life sure is easier when you get your captaincy choices right, and especially so when the opposition doesn't! Now, I don't want to get TOO excited, but some high quality drama could be about to unfold here, and Cairo may upset! WATCH THIS SPACE! Oh, how Pacific would have loved to have named Motlop over Gowers.

PNL - Clark aside - are doin reasonably well, but seem destined to be another one of Gawn's victims. Oh Gawny. Be sure to get some rehab into those shoulders.

Starting to really get behind this 'Jing thing! From a humble start to the season, they have gradually been ramping up ever since, and are just one monster Grundy performance away from cracking 170+ I reckon! Dare I say, premiership credentials are starting to form? RIP Christchurch.

Now, I feel like was a bit harsh on Cape Town in the preview. Having that many injured players really sucks, and for it to happen in a winnable game is tough to swallow. But at this rate, it may have not made a difference - Tokyo continue to tease us! Big score comin up!

Buenos Aires will be praying for a late withdrawal to one of New York's defenders, as that will mean Gilbert will come on a ruin the Revolutions potentially deciding HGA at this rate. The Dillos needed more from its leaders, but its not over yet as New York have struggled to get going so far. New York probably gets up, though, hard to see Higgins failing at the moment.

Hmm! Technically, the Jags are in front with some quality scorers still to come. Zaine Cordy REALLY hurts though, and could be the mistake you can't afford to have against Toronto. Wolves should get up.

It's almost as if rookies in their first year playing for a team that gets beaten by over 10 goals can have crap games :o

Tigers temper Spetsnaz

With a score at 140, this game really could have gone either way for New Delhi, so they would be happy with the win. The Spetsnaz meanwhile continue to dream big of what they may do in 2019 with Treloar, Docherty and a fit and firing Daniher...

Seoul searching Magpies defeat Royals

Seoul kinda just put on the brakes at the end there, and I don't think put to rest any doubts on their premiership credentials with yet another 140. The Royals though are starting to have regular centurions bob up along the way, in what is a HUGE first step towards rebuilding into a contending team.

London Royals (19.11.125) lost to Seoul Magpies (22.9.141)

Wolves down fighting Jaguars

Good performance Rio! When half your team gets up with centuries, you'd normally win a game, but even without Simpson & Mac-cray-cray, Toronto are just too good.

I feel like I change my premiership favouritism each week between Pacific & Toronto.

That's the wooden spoon I reckon. But when you don't have half your team available, what else can you do? But anyway, well deserved win by Tokyo regardless.
