With only 1 more round to be completed, it looks like it will be a tight finish for the inaugural Cairo Sands B&F medal
Next season, the medal will be named after this season's winner.
After a disappointing season, the Sands look to be aggressive on the trading front. Check back here for a list of players that are on the block and feel free to PM me with any offers.
Any word on the bnf?
There is but I am going to hold the count on a different night. Would've done it tonight but had work.
Probably will happen late next week.

It'll be very interesting to see who takes the inaugural Cairo Sands B&F.
My money is on either Brad Sewell or Jack Redden.
The B&F will be up tonight, but will be posted in 4 round intervals to give me more time to fine tune what I am typing.
There will be smaller awards given out during the breaks similar to the Jim Stynes medal night.
Stay tuned for more. 8)
Cairo Sands B&F
Voting system: Each game has 5 vote getters, with the best on getting 5, next getting 4 and so on til 1 vote. In brackets are the player’s SC scores. This doesn’t include captaincy or OOP penalties/bonuses.
In the result of tied scores, all players involved will receive the same amount of votes.
Round 1Cape Town Cobras 22.14.146 def
20.13.133 Cairo SandsTough start to the season for the Sands with a first game loss to the Cobras, but there were enough decent performances to show some promise for the rest of the season.
Votes: 5-Matthew Rosa (119), 4-Josh J. Kennedy (115), 3-James Polkinghorne (109), 2-Pearce Hanley (104), 1-Brad Sewell (93)
Round 2Tokyo Samurai 20.20.140 def.
17.12.114 Cairo SandsIn the second straight away game for the Sands, the boys were completely outclassed by a strong showing from the Samurais. Not the greatest of games to back up a decent performance in Round 1.
Votes: 5-Chris Masten (124), 4-Jack Redden (109), 3-Josh Hill (106), 2-Leigh Adams (94), 1-Matthew Rosa (86)
Round 3Cairo Sands 19.10.124 def. 15.18.108 Paris Nice Lyon Reindeers
“Third time lucky” was heard from coach MajorLazer leaving the coaches’ box after failing to notch up wins in the previous 2 rounds. Some big games from a handful of players carried the rest of the lads on to the victory
Votes: 5-Chris Masten (135), 4-Sean Dempster (125), 3-Leigh Montagna (116), 2-Brad Sewell (80), 1-Josh Hill (78)
Round 4Mexico City Suns 22.17.149 def.
17.16.118 Cairo SandsA lacklustre showing form the Sands ensured a 31 point drubbing was handed down by the pre-season premiership favourite Mexico City Suns. Good performances were hard to spot in this game, where many failed to use the momentum gained from their first win in the previous round.
Votes: 5-Brad Sewell (122), 4-Pearce Hanley (118), 3-Leigh Montagna (94), 2-Chris Masten (90), 1-Seasn Dempster (85)

The first mini award presented tonight will be the Mr. Consistency award.
Mr. Consistency
This award is given to the player who performed the most consistently throughout the season.
Used the standard deviation to work this baby out and only took into account the players who were able to lock down regular starting spots in the 15.
The Winner is:
Taylor Hunt with a standard deviation of 13.3
Taylor performed very consistently throughout the season, but only averaged a measly 64.1 ppg.
Special mentions to Leigh Montagna and Danny Stanley who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Leaderboard for Mr. Consistency
Hunt 13.3
Montagna 14.5
Stanley 16.8

Round 5
Cairo Sands 18.16.124 lst. 24.14.158 Sao Paulo Pumas
A fairly average game from the majority of the Sands in Round 5. What made it worse is that they chose to have this game against another one of the hot favourites. Although playing in an unusual role for him, David Armitage had a breakout game for the Sands and we all hope it is a sign of what is still to come from him
Votes: 5-David Armitage (115), 4-Leigh Montagna (101), 3-Chris Masten (99), 2-Jack Redden (94), 1-Sharrod Wellingham (87)
Round 6
Wellington Warriors 19.16.130 def. 16.16.112 Cairo Sands
The fatigue from playing two dismal games against two quality sides had started to set in and it was time to face another strong outfit in the Warriors. The Sands once again failed to show any sort of fight and let the Warriors cruise away with the victory
Votes: 5-Josh Hill (119), 4-Shaun Hampson (115), 3-Matthew Rosa (94), 2-Pearce Hanley (91), 1-Brad Sewell (87)
Round 7
Cairo Sands 19.13.127 lst. 21.16.142 Moscow Spetsnaz
This game was the one pegged to turn the season around, alas the Sands were unable to pick up the win against the in-form Spetsnaz. The forward line was quite fragile and too many players could not live up to the expectations put towards them in the pre-game chat.
Votes: 5-Brad Sewell (140), 4-Jack Redden (118), 3-Sean Dempster (102), 2-Leigh Montagna (101), 1-David Armitage (88)
Round 8
London Royals 23.15.153 def. 18.14.122 Cairo Sands
On the plane over to the fabled football stadium, Old Trafford, there was a great sense of nerves about playing in front of so many people in this historic stadium. This nervousness got to the players, except Pearce, who being Irish, didn’t care about Manchester United, and really affected their performances. Another disappointing loss, to the Royals this time.
Votes: 5-Pearce Hanley (112), 4-Brad Sewell (97), 3-Matthew Rosa (94), 2-Danny Stanley (92), 1-Todd Goldstein (91)

Time for another mini award and this time it is another statistical award.
This award is the Highest Average award.
This award goes to the player who averaged the most points in the games they played in, excluding penalties and bonuses from WXV scoring.
Remember, the winner of this award isn’t guaranteed to win the B&F because as we all know, every dog has his day.
The winner of the Highest Average award is:
Brad Sewell with an average of 100.3ppg over the 16 games he played in the WXV season.
The standings were:
Sewell 100.3
Montagna 96.5
Goldstein 96.3
Redden 96
Rosa 92.6
Masten 91.6
Stanley 90.5
Hanley 85.2
Dempster 83.9
Armitage 83.1
Adams 82.9
Hill 75.2
Hunt 64.1
Puopolo 50.3
Round 9
Cairo Sands 23.14.152 def. 18.14.122 New Delhi Tigers
After 5 weeks for our second win of the season, it came in spectacular fashion, sending the Tigers back to New Delhi with their tails between their legs. The whole team played as one and really performed, except Paul Puopolo who played to the nickname he had been given by teammates of “PooPooâ€.
Votes: 5-Matthew Rosa (158), 4-Todd Goldstein (153), 3-Jack Redden (131), 2-Leigh Montagna (115), 1-Pearce Hanley (112)
Round 10
Cairo Sands 21.12.138 def. 19.10.124 Beijing Bears
The Sands carried through to round 10’s game the momentum from their last big win the week before. It was a scrappy affair that was a tough battle for both teams though that extra spark was found from the big man in the ruck, Todd Goldstein, who helped lift the Sands to a 14 point win.
Votes: 5-Todd Goldstein (127), 4-Chris Masten (106), 4-Sharrod Wellingham (106), 2-Jack Redden (104), 1-Leigh Adams (96)
Round 11
Dublin Destroyers 17.9.111 lst. 21.13.139 Cairo Sands
The match against fellow cellar dwellers, Dublin Destroyers, could not have come at a better time for our boys from Cairo. Fresh from back-to-back wins, the Sands easily dispatched the destroyers and may have sunk their battleship in the process. :P
Votes: 5-Brad Sewell (127), 4-Sean Dempster (120), 3-David Armitage (116), 2-Matthew Rosa (106), 1-Jack Redden (102)
Round 12
Cairo Sands 24.16.160 def. 19.12.126 New York Eagles
This was the match of the season for all those involved in the Sands organisation. Not only was it a big win to keep the, now, 4 game winning streak alive, but it also was the highest total scored for the round. The forward line led from the front keeping the affair to high scoring for the once birds of prey.
Votes: 5-Leigh Adams (135), 4-Jack Redden (129), 3-Pearce Hanley (124), 2-Josh Hill (123), 2-Chris Masten (123)

Pretty close at the top.
The third and final mini award is the Coaches’ Award.
This award is presented to the player that the coach deems has completed their role to the best of their ability and for the effort they put in on the training ground. They don’t have to be the biggest name or the best player, just whoever does their job well.
The winner of the Coaches’ award is:
Sean Dempster.
Drafted in the 33rd round and averaging 83.9ppg as a key backman, Dempster has been outstanding this season and an exemplary member of the Cairo Sands.
Tightening up at the top of the leaderboard!
Nice stuff ML, and I like the ideas of mini awards... May have to steal it :P
Round 13Pacific Islanders 21.11.137 def.
19.10.124 Cairo SandsAfter being on a high from the 4 game winning streak, the boys crashed back down to earth with another close but disappointing loss. Very few players played to their full capabilities and those special few that did could not overcome the Islanders on their own
Votes: 5-Pearce Hanley (119), 4-Leigh Montagna (100), 3-Sean Dempster (90), 3-Todd Goldstein (90), 3-Leigh Adams (90)
Round 14
Cairo Sands 19.9.123 lst. 22.12.144 Buenos Aires Armadillos
It seemed to be the tale of the season, show some fight for very small portions of the game and forget to play the rest. This was the story of the Round 14 clash against the Armadillos. Leigh Montagna tried to lead the team as he had helped do last week, but it was to no avail as the team went down by 21 points.
Votes: 5-Leigh Montagna (114), 4-Brad Sewell (104), 3-David Armitage (99), 2-Danny Stanley (94), 1-Todd Goldstein (93)
Round 15Toronto Wolves 21.12.138 def.
19.10.124 Cairo SandsAfter so many poor performances, allegations of tanking were thrown around the confines of the WXV Headquarters because of the nature of such a high calibre side being consistently outplayed. In a press conference dismissing these allegations, coach MajorLazer remarked, “Tanking? We are playing so bad I wish I could call it tanking.â€
Votes: 5-Jack Redden (119), 4-Pearce Hanley (109), 3-Brad Sewell (100), 2-Sean Dempster (97), 1-Todd Goldstein (95)
Round 16
Cairo Sands 22.10.142 def. 20.7.127 Berlin Brewers
In this penultimate match, the Sands managed to snag their last win of the season against similarly struggling Brewers. The cream rose to the top in this win with veteran Leigh Montagna once again trying to lead by example. He wouldn;t have had such a great day without the help of big man Todd Goldstein, who expertly tapped the ball into the path of the midfielder time and time again.
Votes: 5-Todd Goldstein (142), 4-Leigh Montagna (123), 3-Jack Redden (121), 3-Chris Masten (121), 1-Matthew Rosa (93)
Round 17Seoul Magpies 24.12.156 def.
16.15.111 Cairo SandsUnfortunately for the coach, players and the whole Sands organisation, 2012 was not the greatest of campaigns. It was capped off with a shocker of a last round, where the desperation of a finals berth lead the Magpies to a dominating 45 point victory.
Votes: 5-Brad Sewell (137), 4-Leigh Montagna (107), 3-Sean Dempster (88), 2-Todd Goldstein (82), 2-Chris Masten (82)
This is the conclusion of the 2012 Cairo Sands B&F. Could everyone please stand and congratulate the inaugural winner:
BRAD SEWELL!

Cheers for fixing up the directory C4. Looks much better with the Sands there. :P
Also, you kinda stuffed up the alphabetical order of it by putting New York and New Delhi before Moscow and Mexico City.
Sorry for being picky, just trying to help. :)

Just a quick announcement here.
Starting from the 2013 season, the Cairo Sands reserves will now be known as the Alexandria Hieroglyphics.
Also NDS is up for trade. ;)
I'm taking offers for B.Jacobs, J.Cripps, C.Dell'Olio and J.Griffin right now.
So if you want any of these players at your team, let me know or you will miss out.
Now that we know where Jacobs will be playing next season, I'm looking at trading him for either draft picks, ruckmen or preferably, both. :)
Just updated the list before the final deadline for trades. Left out players I am going to delist as I have a list of those on my computer and I'm fairly sure no one else would want them.
Still looking to make a few trades for a ruckman, so PM me with any offers. :)

Keep it quiet Os. ;)
I wanna surprise everyone.
Big announcement coming out of the Cairo camp this morning.
The Cairo Sands would like to introduce the new Senior Ass. Man., who will be starting immediately, NigeyS.
Hopefully now, with input from Nigey, the Sands can produce a much better season than the season that was endured in 2012.
I'm very happy to have joined the World XVs Cairo Sands for the 2013 season. I believe we're in a strong position and with the right team on the park each week we're a genuine competitor in the competition.
Good luck Nigey with your role!
International Draft News
The Cairo Sands would like to welcome and announce the recruitment of the following players picked up during the International Draft.
Please join us in welcoming Matt Jones, Brad Hartman, Jason Johannisen, Ashton Hams, Harrison Marsh, Mark Hutchings and Sam Siggins to the Sands. Welcome aboard for season 2013 and beyond!
Cairo Sands List News
After the International Draft, Cairo had a full senior list but Harrison Marsh has been demoted to the rookie list so that we have a Pre-Season Draft pick. Head Coach MajorLazer and Assistant Coach NigeyS are both very happy with the recent recruiting and are looking forward to bringing in more great talent via the Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts to complete the Cairo Sands' list for 2013.
Breaking News from the Cairo Sands HQ!
Cairo are proud to announce the addition of not one, but two assistant coaches to our coaching panel for 2013 and (hopefully) beyond! They're both very knowledgeable and have great footy minds which will undoubtedly help Cairo push for the 2013 WXV title. On behalf of MajorLazer and the rest of Cairo, we'd love to introduce and welcome Toga and Ricochet to the Sands!
Thanks boys, looking forward to a big season from the Sands!

Welcome to the tesm guys. Great to have you onboard. ;D
I will get in touch with Nige soon and we will discuss what specific roles we feel should be done at this point in time.
Who's this Ricochet hack you've bought in? Trying to strengthen the team aren't you, not hinder it.
I'd get rid of him while you still can!

We at Cairo heard of the great Bashers and thought we might scout the great man behind their rise.

Trade News!
The Cairo Sands would like to welcome Clancee Pearce and Jed Bews to the club for 2013, their arrival however meant that we had to say goodbye to Hayden Ballantyne and Jarryn Geary. We thank Hayden and Jarryn for their services and wish them all the best in their future endeavours at the Seoul Magpies.
Please welcome Clancee and Jed!

I just want us to do better than we did in the Pre-Season Cup...
How is Cairo feeling this year?
Trying to keep a lid on things at this early stage in the year, but come round 1, we will be up and ready to push into the top 8 and even into the top 4.
Might be a smokie to win the whole thing. Who knows? 8)
New recruit Clancee Pearce was not overly impressive in his debut game for the Sands.... We'll put that down to nerves :-[
Round 2 Review with a statement from Head Co-Coach NigeyS!
The Cairo Sands have now had two straight losses and are feeling the pressure, co-coaches MajorLazer and NigeyS were unavailable to comment last week but NigeyS had this to say after the Round 2 loss to the Armadillos. "It's certainly a tough little period for Cairo at the moment with the absence of best XV regulars - Dayne Beams and Danny Stanley. We hope to regain their services for the coming Round 3 game against PNL Reindeers." The word on the streets of Cairo is that after two impressive displays, a few player from the twos - the Alexandria Hieroglyphics, may in fact be in line for a run in the firsts. Michael Rischitelli and Lewis Stevenson are both said to be heavily in contention. Internally, there is still faith that Cairo can come back from an ordinary first two rounds.
And +10 for Cairo!
Head Co-Coach :P Does that mean you outrank MajorLazer?

The Coach's Analysis
The Cairo Sands travelled to France to take on the PNL Reindeers in what was said to be a season defining match...and it's only Round 3! After a very nice score and and our opponents having a some bad luck through Luke McPharlin not adding to their home ground advantage, Cairo got up in what was an emphatic victory. The result was sweetened by the fact that this was Cairo's first win of the season. Captain for the week - Pearce Hanley put in an amazing performance and was supported well by a mammoth effort from David Armitage and a great output from new recruit Clancee Pearce. Other solid contributors were Nick Malceski, David Hale and Richard Douglas. Adding to celebrations this week is the news that the reserves - the Alexandria Hieroglyphics triumped again and sit atop of the reserves ladder while remaining undefeated 3 rounds in. Next week, the Sands host the Dublin Destroyers at Borg El Arab which saves the fans a plane trip. We hope for a great turn-out. And to all those doubters out there. Remember this: you're all in da-Nile!
Another nice win on the wkend boys :)
Yeah, it's good. Need to get the win against Berlin this week. But yeah, Alexandria are unstoppable. ;)
Watch this space... Something's coming soon. :P
The Cairo Sands Trade Breakdown with Nige
Trade 5
Cairo trade: Brad Sewell and Chris Newman
Buenos Aires trade: Pick 37 and Pick 55
Comment: Cairo were looking to not only reduce the cap as required by the league but also move on some of our older players. The Buenos Aires Armadillos, an older team, required depth and showed interest quite early in the piece when we put Brad and Chris on the table. As we're looking to achieve a nice balance of youth and experience, we have decided to gain more picks to use in the draft.
Trade 7
Cairo trade: Danny Stanley, Matt Jones, Lewis Stevenson and Pick 88
Beijing trade: Sam Kerridge and Pick 23
Comment: In another effort to reduce our cap, being the team furthest over it and tasked with culling our list, we found the perfect trade for both our club and the Beijing Thunder who are in desperate need of players to get themselves above the minimum cap. Danny Stanley was a regular contributor, but we felt he had currency. Matt Jones, our first pick in the 2012 National Draft played a few games, but eventually got edged out of our side. Lewis Stevenson, like Matt found himself on the outer and has join Danny and Matt in packing his bags and heading to Asia along with Pick 88 in the Draft this year. Sam is a promising youngster and Beijing's second round selection is a bonus.
Trade 8
Berlin trades: Matt Stokes, John Butcher and Jamie Cripps
Cairo trade: Nick Dal Santo and Lindsay Thomas
Comment: This trade was one that wasn't too easy to negotiate, as the players involved were fantastic members of our best XV in 2013. Nick, however, was on the table and Berlin were the team able to offer us the best deal for his services. Lindsay caused us a bit of heartache, but also showed consistency when needed. Matt, John and Jamie are all players that we, at Cairo, identify as being good players for our team moving forward. With John to increase our forward depth, Matt to be a replacement for Lindsay and Jamie to hopefully play forward, but also be a midfield option.
Trade 10
Cape Town trade: Troy Chaplin and Sam Dwyer
Cairo trade: Jason Johannisen, Michael Evans and Pick 37
Comment: With the all the movements and imminent delistings, we saw our defense and forward line as needing reinforcements. To get the reinforcements, we have had to part ways with promising youngster Jason Johannisen to got agonising close to a senior debut before injury ended his season and Michael Evans, our only 2013 WXV Rising Star nominee as well as Pick 37, received from Buenos Aires. In return, we welcome Troy Chaplin and Sam Dwyer to the club, the former to help the boys in defense, while the latter will get familiar with both the midfield group and our forwards.
Trade 28
Dublin trade: Jed Anderson
Cairo trade: Shaun Grigg
Comment: Dublin wanted an established mid and offered us Jed Anderson. Both of us at Cairo really like Anderson and felt we needed to get a little bit more youth into the team. Grigg's a solid high 80s/low 90s player while Anderson's shown and both clubs believe he can match or even better that in time.
Trade 39:
New Delhi trade: Nick Duigan
Cairo trade: Rohan Bail and Pick 34
Comment: Rohan Bail was a player that we were considering delisting, while Pick 34 was a pick we were happy to move on we already has another pick in the same round to use. Nick Duigan is a player who should hopefully serve as handy depth for our squad.
Trade 42:
New York trade: Dion Prestia, Jonathan Giles, Brodie Smith and Pick 65
Cairo trade: David Armitage, Mathew Stokes, Josh Gibson, Jed Anderson and Pick 55
Comment: This trade was one that took a bit of work, but both parties have come away happy with the result. Dion and Jon were both targets for the club and so pursued their services. In the process, we had to part ways with two of our solid performers in Armo and Gibbo, as well as moving on Matty and Jed before they could even unpack their bags. We feel that Dion will be a perfect addition to our midfield while Jon can work well with Mummy. Brodie is a player we see as a solid replacement in our squad for Gibbo and feel that Brodie can become a similar performer to that of which Gibbo was for us.
No Cairo trades were rejected, but Trades 5 and 7 were referred to the league administrator but were passed upon further assessment. We welcome Sam K, John, Jamie, Troy, Sam D, Nick, Dion, Jon and Brodie to the club, while wishing Brad, Chris, Danny, Matt, Lewis, Dal, Lindsay, Jason, Michael, Shaun, Rohan, Dave, Matty, Josh and Jed all the best in their future endeavours at their new clubs.
Ins: Sam Kerridge, John Butcher, Jamie Cripps, Troy Chaplin, Sam Dwyer, Dion Prestia, Jonathan Giles, Brodie Smith and Picks 23 and 65.
Outs: Brad Sewell, Chris Newman, Danny Stanley, Matt Jones, Lewis Stevenson, Nick Dal Santo, Lindsay Thomas, Jason Johannisen, Michael Evans, Shaun Grigg, David Armitage, Josh Gibson, Matt Stokes (on-traded), Jed Anderson (on-traded) and Picks 34, 37 (on-traded), 55 (on-traded) and 88.
International Draft Picks as of 31/10/2013: 13, 23, 52, 65, 70

Are the Sands enjoying training in the snow?
Some of our boys played for teams who get the cold weather often and so are rejoicing because they apparently miss it. :P
And as you can see, new recruit Cadeyn Williams brought a scarf... almost like he was expecting this. :o
We've been dealt a pretty decent blow just days out from the season with reigning best and fairest winner Richard Douglas ruled out for six weeks with a groin injury.

Cairo Sands Mid Season Review
This review will reflect upon the first 9 rounds. The highs and lows, stars and spuds, the defining moments of the season and also forecast the remainder of the season. Each week's team will be posted along with the best players and the result.
At present, the Cairo Sands currently sit at 4-5 and round out the top 8 while leading a pack of five teams on the same amount of wins and losses due to a superior and healthy percentage, the 5th best in the league despite us sitting in 8th. We also have the 5th most points for, largely thanks to a strong start to the season.
Round 1D: N.Malceski, B.Smith, P.Hanley, B.Goodes
M: D.Beams (C), D.Prestia (VC), M.Rischitelli, L.Dunstan
R: S.Mumford
F: L.Johnston, S.Kerridge, L.Breust, P.Puopolo
I: J.Giles, J.Cripps
Dublin Destroyers (23.13.151) defeated Cairo Sands (22.16.148)BestCairo: D Prestia, L Breust, D Beams, S Mumford, L Dunstan
Cairo's 2014 season kicked off against the highly fancied Dublin team. It was a match expected to be a close one, and it definitely lived up to expectations. Despite a strong fight, lead by the clubs leaders in Beams, Prestia and Mumford the boys went down by 3 points. There were some disappointing performances and Dublin also had problems. Perhaps the team had problems gelling, with six new faces (well, one familiar - Jamie Cripps), including draftee Luke Dunstan. The closeness of the match was a bonus, as it meant Dublin sat just out of the 8 in 9th and us one spot below in 10th, keeping us very much in touch with the top 8 teams after the first round.
Round 2D: P.Hanley, N.Malceski, B.Smith, E.Mackenzie
M: D.Beams (cc), D.Prestia (cc), R.Douglas, L.Dunstan
R: S.Mumford
F: L.Breust, P.Puopolo, S.Kerridge, J.Cripps
I: J.Giles, M.Rischitelli
Cairo Sands (23.22.160) defeated New Delhi Tigers (16.15.111)BestCairo: S Mumford, P Hanley, B Smith, R Douglas, D Beams, D Prestia
After a narrow loss in Round 1, Cairo hosted the hapless New Delhi side and really put their foot down. The boys hammered through 23 goals and 22 behinds to register a big score of 160 and really inject the percentage. Brett Goodes and Lewis Johnston were omitted, as Eric Mackenzie and Richard Douglas came in for their first games of the season. The win was pleasing as it put us on 1-1 heading into the third round of the season. Perhaps the biggest bits of the news coming out of Round 2 were Beams and Prestia joining forces for co-captaincy and Shane Mumford dominating his opponent Shaun Hampson.
Round 3D: P.Hanley, N.Malceski, B.Smith, E.Mackenzie
M: D.Beams (VC), D.Prestia, R.Douglas, L.Dunstan
R: S.Mumford (C)
F: L.Breust, P.Puopolo, S.Kerridge, J.Cripps
I: J.Giles, M.Rischitelli
Tokyo Samurai (23.13.151) lost to Cairo Sands (25.16.166)Best:Cairo: S Mumford, L Dunstan, D Prestia, L Breust, P Hanley, D Beams
We had to travel to Tokyo to take on the Samurai who came out to play. Play the did, but Cairo picked up where they left off the week before and came to post a score of 166. Off the back of a big round the week before, Shane Mumford was rewarded with captaincy and thrived in the role leading from the front. Luke Dunstan impressed again and the usual suspects also stood up in a performance that saw us win our second game and two on the trot. Little were we prepared for what would happen in Round 4.
Will definitely have this done by the end of the week. Hopefully on Thursday afternoon.
Yeah, I don't think I'll be finishing the review :-[
In other news, hoping to have some sort of trade thingo up soon. :)
B&F should be up either tonight or sometime tomorrow.
I've created my own scoring system that barely makes sense to me so it's anyone's guess at who is gonna win this thing.
I approve of this wacky system. It almost guarantees Shane Mumford will win. ;)
So I've done all the calculations and somehow crazy formulas don't give Mummy the win.
The Best and Fairest for the Cairo Sands in 2014 is...
DAYNE BEAMS
After missing much of last season with various injuries, Dayne has come back this season and come away with the B&F this season.
Here's the rest of the vote getters:
1st. Beams 1361
2nd. Malceski 1116
3rd. Prestia 1047
4th. Mumford 970
5th. Hanley 948
6th. Smith 840
7th. Breust 722
8th. Douglas 493
9th. Dunstan 381
10th. MacKenzie 352
11th. Giles 268
12th. Puopolo 223
13th. Dwyer 203
T14th. Carrazzo 182
T14th. McGovern 182
16th. Hutchings 147
17th. Rischtelli 130
18th. Impey 88
T19th. Clarke 53
T19th. Gordon 53
T21st. Cameron 47
T21st. Kerridge 47
Nigel-Rage-Quit-Coming
Clear miscalculation. It's okay, I hear Shane has plans to get the medal.
Beams only didn't poll in one game for the season (the one he didn't play), Mummy missed a few more games and that's what cost him.
Well done Dayne
Eski 2nd, what a gun ;)
Dunstan 9th in his first season is fantastic.
It's a shame he was robbed of the Rising Star. :P
Think you need to update your vote/slogan ;)
Very interesting scoring system for B&F too. Mind explaining how it works?
Hahaha yeah, probably needs updating. Gotta work on a new one.

Ok so The top 8 scorers get votes like this:
1st- 100
2nd- 88
3rd- 77
4th- 68
5th- 60
6th- 53
7th- 47
8th- 41
Then if they scored over a certain score they get bonus votes added onto that, like so:
120- 8
130- 14
140- 20
150+- 30
They only got the highest amount of votes from one score category, doesn't get stacked on.
I think that's how I did it anyway. It confused me as well.

The Cairo Sands Trade Breakdown with Nige
Trade 11Cairo give: Clancee Pearce, Kyle Hartigan, Lewis Johnston and Sam Kerridge
New Delhi give: Matt White, Rhys Palmer and Pick 60
Summary: Being over the salary cap we're required to get under it. In addition, a struggling new Delhi needed to strengthen their list. To do this, we've parted with Clancee Pearce who follows former assistant coach Ricochet to India. Kyle Hartigan who was promoted off the rookie list last season along with Lewis Johnston who struggled with injury this year and Sam Kerridge who joined the club from Beijing last year. We'd like to welcome to the Matt White and his terrible tattoo and Rhys Palmer who can play both midfield and forward. In addition to these two young men, Pick 60 has been acquired.
Trade 12Cairo give: Nick Malceski, Seb Tape and Pick 49
PNL give: Chris Dawes, Matt Thomas and Pick 33
Summary: We bid farewell to Nick Malceski, the ever reliable stalwart of our defense for two seasons. Nick was our nominated for the WXVs coaches award and the first ever Cairene to notch up 50 WXVs game (after playing several for Dublin). Also leaving us is Seb Tape, picked up in the International Draft last year and only playing a few reserves games for us. Pick 49 has also been traded. We wish them the best in their future endeavours. Acquired from the stingy PNL Reindeers was forward Chris Dawes who should join Luke Breust, Paul Puopolo and Jeremy McGovern in our forward line next season. Matt Thomas also came with Chris to add some midfield depth. We're also very happy to have received Pick 33.
Trade 21Toronto Trade: Ben Brown and NAT #50
Cairo Trade: Richard Douglas
Summary: Leaving the club in this trade is 2013 Best and Fairest - Richard Douglas. After an ordinary year, the coaching panel felt that Richard could be moved on as the younger Cairenes stepped up. Coming across from Toronto is Ben Brown, a forward who should be able to pinch hit if needed. Ben is known for his hairstyle and work ethic, both of which are trademarks of the Cairo squad. Pick 50 has also been secured in the trade.
Trade 22Cairo trade: Andrew Carrazzo, Jamie Cripps and Charlie Cameron
Tokyo trade: Sam Mitchell and Pick 45
Summary: With the departure of Nick Malceski and the likelihood of Pearce Hanley joining the midfield, an experienced defender is needed to hold the Cairo defense together. We found one in Tokyo's Sam Mitchell. To get Sam's services, we had to farewell Andrew Carrazzo who spent one year in Cairo after being the Buenos Aires list as well as two-time Cairene Jamie Cripps and the exciting Charlie Cameron. Tokyo has also handed over Pick 45.
Trade 24Pacific give: Phil Davis + pick 76
Cairo give: Michael Rischitelli + Matt Thomas
Summary: Still needing to watch the cap but also looking to look after our defensive stocks, we sought out a defender and found Pacific willing to give Phil Davis and Pick 76. In return, we said goodbye to Michael Rischitelli and also Matt Thomas who was made to catch a connecting flight after not even being allowed to unpack his bags.
In: Matt White, Rhys Palmer, Chris Dawes, Matt Thomas*, Ben Brown, Sam Mitchell, Phil Davis, Picks 33, 45, 50, 60 and 76.
Out: Clancee Pearce, Kyle Hartigan, Lewis Johnston, Sam Kerridge, Nick Malceski, Seb Tape, Richard Douglas, Andrew Carrazzo, Jamie Cripps, Charlie Cameron, Michael Rischitelli, Matt Thomas and Pick 49.

Yeah will be interesting to see. Averaged 3 hit outs a game in the AFL and 9 in the VFL. Is that enough to keep ruck status?
If Brown gets it, so should Casboult :P. Doubt either will :-X.

Knowhere near enough I remember forwards getting close to 10 and not getting it. Basically zero ruck time.
Petrie got 3.5 last year just as a point of reference.
Clutching at straws.
But yeah, the plan is that wherever Giles is at 2015 he gets games (might be traded to Adelaide or something where he should be R/F) or he stays at the Giants and plays when Mummy goes down.

Missing half the season now. R.I.P Cairo.
And the reason it's a problem is because he's a mid this year and that's our weakest line. :-X
Hutchings and Dunstan you'd imagine should step up a bit, but yeah Hanley out gonna hurt a heap :-X. And with Beams' move, going to be an interesting year in the midfield at Cairo.

I haven't heard much about Hutchings this pre-season, I'm not sure where he sits. :-X
Guess he may be good IF he plays haha :P.

This is all adding up to Mummy being fit and firing for the season, in which case, we're fine. :P
Confirmed ACL for Big Easy. :(
So it looks like we're gonna start the season without the services of at least 4 players.
Eric Mackenzie, Pearce Hanley, Ryan Crowley and Nick Kommer are write-offs for Round 1.
Mackenzie is gone for the season with an ACL, so there's that.
Hanley's hip has him sidelined for half the season.
Crowley is dealing with personal issues.
And it's TBC on Kommer's knee.
At least Shane Mumford is fine... for now. 8)
Mark Hutchings' groin injury has gone from 3-6 weeks to TBC.
We don't have a midfield.

It's just not the same :P.

Cairo Sands - Your 2015 preseason champions. ;)
Looking at doing some kind of first 7 rounds review or something.
Polo, Dave and Marlon (that's ML, GL and Pk for those that don't know) might contribute as well.
Hopefully it will shed some light on our deplorable start to the season. :P
So yeah, too lazy for the above. :P
However, here's a little something.
Cairo Sands Press Conference
In the wake of the Cairo Sands losing to the New Delhi Tigers and ultimately falling level with them on points and only above them on percentage, the club has decided to call a press conference to address the miserable season.
Nige: This whole season has definitely been disappointing. After our upset win over Moscow in Round 1, we've been downhill skiers. I'm a firm believer in Murphy's Law - anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. That seems to be the case this season. Injuries of course haven't helped. We lost Eric Mackenzie, a key part of our back 4 before the season began and the services of normal starters in Mark Hutchings, Chris Knights and Pearce Hanley also did not help. We still only have one of those at the moment.
Wavy: I love lamp.
Marlon: Do you really? Or are you just saying that?
Polo: Karen's still good everyone, we have plans to get ourselves out of this rut. More power to Wavy and Marlon this offseason before Nige ruins his and our reputation any further.
Nige: Um yeah, that's happening. Anyway, the whole #NoMummyNoCairo thing has surfaced once again with us losing Shane Mumford for the rest of the season thanks to ankle surgery. It's a shame and we were happy with his form of late, but we're still bullish that Rory Lobb and Tom Downie can get the job done for us. Tokyo's Andrew Phillips is certainly an offseason target for us.
Wavy: Priority pick!
Marlon: Yiss, me likey!
Polo: Yeah, sounds good boys.
Nige: As previously stated, we're not happy about being in this situation, but I guess you could say we're in a rebuilding phase. A priority pick would certainly help with that. Our use of it at this stage is up in the air, though initial discussions seem to be favouring the idea of using it to acquire better players. We're certainly entertaining all options and nothing is set in concrete.
Wavy: I want Pick 1!
Marlon: Me too!
Polo: Karen ain't actually that fussed.
Nige: At the moment, our percentage dictates that we'll get Pick 3 since New Delhi will get the picks before us. Our aim is always to win, but right now, with the absence of key personal and the lack of depth and form across the board, the chances of that are slim to none. The turnover of our list is definitely something we'll look at. Some harsh calls will be made for the betterment of our club. Rest assured that Karen's gonna thrive in 2016, that's a promise. I think we're done here.
The Cairo Sands thank everyone for their time and are willing to answer any more questions that people may have.
Great stuff Nige... the others? Not so much :p
IF Buenos Aires, Cairo and New Delhi each finish on less than 4 wins, and the order of the bottom 3 stay the same, the picks will be:
1. New Delhi (priority)
2. New Delhi
3. Cairo
4. Buenos Aires
...
20. Cairo (priority)
21. Buenos Aires (priority)
22. New Delhi
23. Cairo
24. Buenos Aires
....
Lol, quality read!
I thought Karen was a girlfriend ML/Nige were talking about :-[.

Mid Season Trade Review
Cairo give: Clancee Pearce, Kyle Hartigan, Lewis Johnston and Sam Kerridge
New Delhi give: Matt White, Rhys Palmer and Pick 60
Verdict: Odd trade here honestly. Palmer's been good for us when not injured, Matty White was on-traded and so was 60. Clancee was a big loss as he's been good, Hartigan is meh, Johnston was delisted and Kerridge hasn't shown his potential yet. If it's considered Clancee vs Palmer, I think we lost.
Cairo give: Nick Malceski, Seb Tape and Pick 49
PNL give: Chris Dawes, Matt Thomas and Pick 33
Verdict: Somewhat controversial at the time. Malceski's drop off in scoring, form and eventual injury means we've kinda dodged a bullet as this could have gone pear-shaped. Tape meant nothing to us as and we got 49 upgraded. We also on-traded everything we received in this trade which seems to have worked out. I'd say this was a win.
Toronto Trade: Ben Brown and NAT #50
Cairo Trade: Richard Douglas
Verdict: Douglas has been fairly good this year and we've been struggling for mids, Ben Brown's been solid with our shortage of available forwards and thus handy in that regard, 50 got us Josh Deluca who has been okay in WAFL. Unfortunatley, probably another loss given Douglas > Brown scoring wise and given our mid struggles.
Cairo trade: Andrew Carrazzo, Jamie Cripps and Charlie Cameron
Tokyo trade: Sam Mitchell and Pick 45
Verdict: Another trade that turned out to be a loss. Carrots and Cripps has been solid this year and Cameron would have been handy. Smitchell has been amazing and would be very handy. 45 was on-traded.
Pacific give: Phil Davis + pick 76
Cairo give: Michael Rischitelli + Matt Thomas
Verdict: Another shocker honestly. Rischitelli's seemingly getting better with age and has scored very well, something our midfield needs. Seems to be a recurring theme.
Beijing give: Rory Lobb + Pick #77 ID
Cairo give: Chris Dawes + Phil Davis
Verdict: This one is kind of hard to call right now. Defenders haven't been a problem for us, Dawes isn't getting games but Lobb although only playing one game so far this season was an important piece of our GWS rucks puzzle. Might be important in coming weeks so we'll call this a win. Finally!
Cairo give: N45 and N67
New York give: Matt Arnot, Arryn Siposs and Jake Batchelor
Verdict: Arnot's been stuck in the VFL, Siposs has been injured but is a hack who can't live up to his potential but Batch has actually been fairly handy this season for us, overall a nothing trade but conider Batch has saved us a few times this season, we'll call it a win.
NDT give: Ben Stratton
Cairo give: Jarman Impey
Verdict: Straight swap. Nothing much to say here. Stratton was acquired purely because Polo wanted him and he's been okay. Impey hasn't been much better. Don't think there's a winner or loser to this trade yet.
Cairo give: Sam Mitchell and Pick 33
Christchurch give: Nick Smith and Travis Colyer
Verdict: Smith has been a starter for us all season and handy in the absence on Mackenzie who did his ACL, Colyer has been a godsend considering our mid shortage. Mitchell however has been scoring incredibly and better than Colyer who is now gone for the season. Another loss here.
Cairo trade: Pick 85
Christchurch trade: Tom Downie
Verdict: Again, Downie is a piece of the GWS ruck puzzle and hopefully come in handy. For the pick we gave, I believe it's a win.
Cairo give: Jon Giles + Pick 60
London give: Andrew Mackie + 65
Verdict: Giles isn't getting games which wouldn't help us and Mackie missed a number of games and has since been up and down, we also on-traded him. A win really, though some may disagree.
PNL Trade: Nat #51.
Cairo Trade: Jed Bews.
Verdict: Bews has been decent, 51 got Josh McGuinness who hasn't yet got a game, but has come close and been solid in the NEAFL. Nothing trade atm.
Cairo trade: Tory Dickson
Christchurch trade: pick 85
Verdict: Dickson's actually been pretty decent, we got that pick back for some weird reason. Loss.
Cairo trade: J.Clarke & T.Chaplin
Dildos trade: N38
Verdict: 38 got Lonie who has been pretty solid and played pretty much all year, our wealth of defenders means this trade was a nice win.
Cairo give: Matt White + 85
New York give: Nick Kommer + 53
Verdict: Kommer's coming back from a decent injury layoff but I believe he's underrated and has a spot in the Bombers 22, particularly with Colyer now out. White's been decent for Port but is now also injured. More or less a nothing trade right now.
Cape town gives: Nat 52.
Cairo: Karpany + H Marsh
Verdict: Nothing trade here, but 52 got us the LTI'd Ed Vickers-Willis.
Cairo give: Mackie + N53
Rio give: Thompson + N10
Verdict: The original version of this was without 53 and was knocked back. We added the extra pick which could have been used to get somebody like Oxley which could have been huge for us. Thompson hasn't been used yet but also been injured. 10 got us Paul Ahern who should hopefully get games soon and be M/F down the track. Thoughts on Mackie in an above verdict. Probably a loss at this point in time.
Overall, it was less than successful trade period for us, with many of our gambles not paying off. Some draft decisions also proved detrimental. Clearly there's a correlation between our success this season and our offseason happenings, though injuries have also played their part. Suffice to say we'll be looking to go back to the success of the 2012 and 2013 offseasons to improve our list and make it much more competitive.

Shane Mumford's doing well in his recovery from ankle surgery, even got a cool new ride because of it. 8)
It's been said that Shane isn't happy with assistant coach Wavy "GoLions" Davy who is trying to steal Mummy's new ride to show off to his new girlfriend.
Rory Lobb and Tow Downie are said to have Mummy's back though and are keeping a watchful eye for when Dave comes lurking.

Cairo Preseason News
With the suspensions of Heath Hocking and Travis Colyer for the 2016 season, the club has been granted two top up picks.
The first selection for the club was Matty Stokes who can play both as a forward and a midfielder and it is believed the club will be looking to use his versatility as much as possible during the season.
The club will pass its second selection regardless of whether a player is available at the pick or not and will look to elevate whichever rookie puts their hand up during preseason. The rumoured rookie to be receiving a promotion to the main list is Dougal Howard having impressed assistant coaches Dave and Marlon.
Co-coach Polo was unavailable for comment, his whereabouts at this moment unknown, however the club intends to locate Polo before the season begins so he can rally the troops for a big 2016.

Delisting a 2016 afl premiership player? Big call!
Well, we're already keeping Dale Morris. :P
I like Fletch and I reckon we'll probably keep and promote him (since we have to either promote or delist). He's a younger and better Sam Rowe who I reckon we should probably delist instead.

We're pretty happy with what we've done so far. Added 10 new faces to Cairo through the trade period. I think we've managed to actually improve our depth which means Alexandria should hopefully do a better job next year, but also not sacrifice any quality in the XV as well.
Gov, Robbo, Vlastuin, Pidge
Adams, Beams, Hall, Newnes
Mummy
Benny, Lobb, Clugg, Gresh
Hendo, Amon
Kedge, Jeffy, Stewart
Doesn't look bad at this stage. 8)
The absolute madmen have no nat picks, discuss.
Probs cost you the 2018 premiership tbh

Trades Hall, traded Newnes, (and iirc) traded Gresh. Got Zaha. Lost Mummy to retirement, Lobb could be FWD only. No draft picks to inject any youth.
What size spoon would you like?
