Title: Richmond Injury News
Post by: Toga on March 18, 2014, 09:12:32 PM
Just thought a thread like this could be used throughout the season to keep updates on injuries as the season progresses - post any info you see about injuries here!

From the Richmond website:

http://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/2014-03-18/injury-update-jackson-maric-lennon-dea

Ben Lennon is back on the field! Expected to play a half of footy this weekend in the VFL.

Ivan Maric is progressing really well and is expected to begin running training again next week so hopefully he'll be back soon!

Dan Jackson not far off by the sounds of it, while bad news for Matty Dea who broke his knuckles in this weekend's VFL hitout.

This would only happen to Tross.  :P

On par with Zac Clarke getting injured at Falls.

With the good news of the win in the VFL came the bad (http://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/2014-03-31/injuries-sour-vfl-practice-match-win) as well...

QuoteRichmond's VFL side's narrow victory in its final pre-season match last weekend has come at a cost, with key forward Aaron Edwards damaging the medial ligament in his knee.

Edwards left the field in the second half of the win over Essendon, and is set to spend 2-3 weeks on the sidelines.

Youngsters Liam McBean and Ben Lennon also failed to see out the match after rolling their ankles, with both to be assessed during the week before a decision is made on their fitness.

Utility Chris Knights is also facing a fitness test this week after he suffered knee soreness.

Tross will miss the next 2-3, Ivvy expected to recover within a month and Matty Dea is 4-5 weeks away.

hope Knights is ok I really want to see him back in the best 22. Was very good last year at half forward before he did his knee.

So much this though. I thought he was a great recruit and did some great things in the games he played for us to date.

Don't get me wrong. I don't mind Az, but he's borderline best 22 imo.

The other 4 for sure though.

I'd have Az over Vickery at the moment, think his marking capabilities would almost rival Vickers' form atm and he has far better defensive pressure.

Oh, atm for sure.

Generally speaking, an in form Tyrone > Az.

Hm yeah the selectors generally seem to think so but they're quite different kinds of players IMO.

With Griffiths coming into the team I think at the moment there is really only the two spots to be had between Hampson, Vickers & Griffiths, while the other one needs to be that medium forward like Az, Knights, Elton, O'Hanlon otherwise the team gets too tall. Think that's been one of the flaws of Dimma's game plan so far, fwd line lacks defensive pressure because of the height we're taking in to games.
Title: Re: Richmond Injury News
Post by: Nige on April 15, 2014, 11:21:06 AM
Dunno whether you can call Todd Elton a medium forward, he's a bit taller than that.  :P

But yeah, I do agree.

At this stage, I'd probably prefer to see Hammer (because Ivvy needs the support), Griff (because he's Choco's project player, has the talent and has been making the most of his opportunities) and Knights (because he's a good player when fit and offers something, that of course is when he isn't injured).

Ty just hasn't delivered what we've been expecting from him, and McBean is knocking on the door.
Az is a good quick fix, but he's 30 and this might even be his last season (especially when we have Lennon, Petterd, Knights as those medium sized guys).
I've never really been impressed by Elton, not sure why... maybe I just prefer the other guys to him.
O'Hanlon is good depth, but he's never going to see many senior opportunities imo because he's down the pecking order.

Jake King will be sidelined for a fortnight with a recurring toe injury

Can only be good news for Sam Lloyd! Although he's been playing well enough to hold his spot anyways.

Would be massive if they are back.
We need Rance to destroy Buddy Roughy and Gunston again.

That would be fantastic if those two were back this week.

Rance is super important to our defense, his role is underrated in our team IMO. Thinking Rance would take Roughead, Chaplin/Astbury take the resting ruck & Grimes to Gunston? Would one of them miss out if Rance is back?

And getting Lids back would just be huge. Maric probably not far off a run in the VFL as well?
