Title: CAPTAIN Form
Post by: dmac07 on August 31, 2011, 01:58:53 PM
Just going through a few of the captain choices and coming up with recent form, form the ground, and against this weeks opponent for my own benefit but thought it might help out a few others.. Will add more over the next day or two.

*Hawks players have last 5 average, and this years average against bottom 4 sides. As none of the hawks players have much history against GC or playing at the ground.

Swan

Last 5: 176, 136, 156, 132, 126,
Ave - 145.2
Last 5 @ MCG: 102, 132, 107, 176, 136
Ave - 129.8
Last 5 vs Geel: 79, 106, 131, 141, 98
Ave - 111

Pros:
- Been in brilliant recent form, ever since reutrning from arizona
- Loves the big ground at the mcg, suiting his hard running style that his opponents just can't keep up with.

Cons:
- Could be in for a tough/close game this week.
- His history against Geelong (111) isn't as good as against most other clubs over the past few years.

Pendlebury:

Last 5: 160, 133, 102, 108, 154
Ave - 131.4
Last 5 @ MCG: 119, 160, 145, 160, 108
Ave - 138.4
Last 5 vs Geel: 95, 96, 110, 120, 109
Ave - 106

Pros:
- Highest scoring SC player in the afl this year, has dipped below 100 just once (94).
- Has a recent histroy of playing blinders in big games

Cons:
- Likely to get the tag by Ling
- 2 out last 3 scores under 110

Judd

Last 5: 197, 88, 163, 125, 69
Ave - 128.4
Last 5 @ MCG: 155, 180, 122, 197, 163
Ave - 163.4
Last 5 vs St.K: 31, 71, 120, 101, 106
Ave - 85.8

Pros:
- Brilliant recent record at the MCG.
- Rested after a week off.

Cons:
- Well beaten in last game by lewis.
- Poor record against the saints.

Goodes

Last 5: 107, 139, 88, 113, 109
Ave - 111.2
Last 5 @ SCG: 124, 94, 53, 107, 167
Ave - 109
Last 5 vs Bris: 64, 156, 62, 100, 149
Ave - 106.2

Pros:
- Playing in an important, but what should be an easy match this week, so expect 100% from the guy.
- More midfield time in recent weeks looks promising for his scoring.

Cons:
- Prone to throw in a few more scores in the 50-90 region than other options.
- Record over last 5 weeks reasonable, but up to 20points per game behind some of the others here.

Ablett

Last 5: 126, 135, 134, 145, 125
Ave - 133.6
Last 5 @ Metricon:* 139, 121, 126, 138, 142

Ave - 130.4

Pros:
- He's Ablett

Cons:
- He plays for GC

* Removed from last 5 games at metricon was game against sydney where he was subbed. Taking it out provided a truer reflection of his scores.

Great post!  I think Boyd probably deserves a mention too, phenomenal record at ES in both 2010 and 2011, and how can we continually ignore GAJ~

Personally I'm going to avoid the big name games.

Whats interesting is the amount of mid field time both Goodes and Goddard are spending now.  Both have something on the line, and will need to play out of their skins.  I feel with the other captain choices, they probably have a bit less on the line.

Also we already have existing data for both Goodes and Boyd as they have already played their opponents in earlier rounds

Goodes vs BL: 144 round 11, 2011
Boyd vs Freo: 162 round 5, 2011

charliesheen i hadn't even considered GOD, looks good atm and does perfrom in crunch games. i guess teams are apparently ''rusty'' after a bye so could saints and GOD benefit after carlton's week off??? GOD could be everywhere this week , down back rebounding/in the guts/ third man up in ruck/CHF???  would be ballsy against blues to pick him

oh and dmac07 thats a sweet write up mate!

Drummond:

Last 5: 81, 45, 97, 79, 104
Ave - 81.2
Only 2 @ SCG: 41, 78
Ave - 59.5
Last 4 vs Syd: 60, 164, 41, 78
Ave - 85.8

Pros:
- Best kick in the league. That's right, better than Goddard
- Durable, never misses many games.
- Endorsed my meow meow

Cons:
- None

awesome post Dmac!

I am finding it hard to go past Mummy, he is dominating and since coming back from injury has averaged a massive 129.7. Taking out his two recent awesome weeks and even then he is averaging 114.6.

He is in form, playing a week opponent and stacks up better than my other options in Boyd, Rockliff, Swan Goddard, Ablett or Judd..

Priddis may be an option but if the Eagles are smashing Adelaide he may wear the orange vest...

Plus Josh is going to claim a majority of the points in that game.

Murphy

Last 5: 131, 138, 110, 118, 112,
Ave - 121.8
Last 5 @ Etihad: 139, 93, 103, 138, 112
Ave - 116.8
Last 5 vs Saints: 142, 45, 105, 75, 90
Ave - 91.4

Pros:
- Been in brilliant form all year - gone to the next level
- Good unique

Cons:
- Saints are his worst team
- If Dempster goes to Judd, Jones will go Murph
Title: Re: CAPTAIN Form

Added Goddard and hawks trio of mitchell, hodge, franklin. Cheers blue dreamin, murphy could be a good unique for those who have him!

jeez looking at the year juddy has a pretty big std dev this year compared to murphy.

you would think he would go huge after he was cleaned up by sewell and co.

my concern is that saints generally give away their points to loose defenders (there are 10 defenders with scores over 120 against them...)

Dempster and Jones to try and shut down on judd and murphy. Could leave plenty of space behind the ball for Scotland, Yarran, Simpson.

Scotland would be a brave Captain pick, but not the worst idea! Don't have him myself though.

Priddis and cox added to the list. People seem to be avoiding the players from the pies, cats game, not sure why, just as many points available as any other game!

big name games, the points are often equally shared, or you get some unique players that can stand out (i.e. Heath Shaws 149 against Geelong)
