Welcome To : HIRE A DREAM TEAM DETECTIVE - Player Research By Request Ongoing.

Request on this thread players you want researched, PAGE INDEX ON PLAYERS AT BOTTOM OF THIS POST

*NOTE*  You can go straight to the page you want by clicking on the dots ... between the page numbers - it will show all page numbers after you click the dots and you can click the number you want and go straight there.

OK I'm going to be doing a fair bit of research into new players as well as into players we all know as part of my DT pre-season, and to benefit others and myself I thought I would run a thread on requests for player research, saves you the trouble and makes me research players that maybe I would not have otherwise.

So please post any players you wish to know more about and (in as little a time as possible) I will do some in depth research and post it up for you.

I aim this thread at research and try to only supply information and facts and articles that may help you form an opinion one way or the other often based on the requesters question.

I do try to give a brief player rating at the bottom just to summarize and give a rating, but I really encourage people with the knowlege or inside info to call me out on those ratings if they are off the mark, not to undermine me just to make sure I'm not giving readers a false rating on a player. I think I get it right most of the time, but PLEASE feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I Look forward to researching more players Premium, MidPriced and Rookie all.

The below link outlines some of the players and involves discussion on the players, check it out to see discussion on the player

These guys have done a lot of work profiling many players and this is a link to the thread index.

Summer superstar
Billie Smedts, who was Geelong's first pick in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, has been a standout on the track so far. Smedts didn't play at all last season after needing surgery to fix a hip problem. But the 19-year-old defender from North Warrnambool has now set his sights on making his AFL debut early next season. "I feel like I'm starting my career with Geelong now," he said. "The first thing is just to get through the pre-season and get my body in the best shape I can, so that when the NAB Cup comes around I can hopefully put my hand up and get a few games."

In summary, Billie Smedts is tearing it up during pre-season and is a stand out at the club, in DT terms he is DPP FWD/DEF, not much benefit in that unless you have someone like tomlinson in the alternate line to use with him. Having missed all last season he is obviously still a basic rooks price and given the likelihood of getting games he is a lock for one of your fwd or def rook positions.

FULL NAB CUP GAME:

   Player Name   K   H   D   M   HO   T   FF   FA   SG   G   B   DT
6   Billie Smedts   10   4   14   4   0   2   1   1   0   0   1   57

DT Rookie Rating (FWD/DEF) 8/10 - high rating due to three major reasons, the kid has skills, he is flying in pre-season, he is almost guaranteed game time and early, watch in nab cup and prepare to climb on board. A little older than most rooks.

Best rookies Def, For.

This is a very hard question to answer at this point of Pre-Season, we need to see how the rookies go in NAB cup and we need to learn a lot more from thier respective clubs about what role they will play, when they will debut and what thier thoughts on them are before we list them in our teams or decide which is best. But I will list below a bunch I think will be standouts given the chance, and I will research and profile these for you if they are not alreasy requested by others like Billie Smedts has been.

M.Buntine - GWS - 161700 - obviously a top draft pick so expensive for a rook, but if he plays he should play very very well.
M.Clarke - COL - 141500 - not a rookie at all but rookie priced again if he lines up rnd 1 he will be a DT cash cow for sure.
S.Docherty - BRIS - 130200 - DPP mid, this guy just had surgery but is expected to be good to go rnd 1, will be a jet.
B.Ellis - RIC - 116700 - another high pick this guy has big wraps on him.
L.Brown -ADE - 98700 - big wraps on this guy also, probably a choice for your mid bench as he id DEF MID DPP
S.Morris - RIC - 104200 - another tiger set to be a gun
L.Spurr - FRE - 107000 - question id will he get a game early but will be good
T.Mohr - GWS - 115800 - superstar get on him
There are a ton of maybe GWS players in the DEF line as there are in all others but the stand outs to me are these 3, after Buntine.

A.Tomlinson - GWS - 143700 DPP FWD DEF
S.Frost - GWS 121800
T.Mohr - GWS - 115800

There are many I left out by neccessity but as I said I will profile most of these in detail over the coming days anyway. hope this helps for a start anyway.

Listed this year at $338300, this guy is not cheap, he is however rated highly as a rebounding defender, an excellent DT position, of all the DEF you pick you want this sort of player. I think he is a little untested for the amount of money and is up against some stiff competition in the DEF from other mid priced defenders.

Mid Priced Player Rating (DEF)  7/10.  a lot of unknowns, not exactly cheap, but very capable on what he has shown last season. Watch pre season and nab if fit and healthy and in the crows best 22, he lifted by 10 points last season even after missing the end of the season, and this is his breakout year being yr 3 (possibly) if he wasn't 338K i would suggest getting on but that price makes him a toss of the coin...

Sam Butler even at his relative mature age is capable of big numbers he is a proven DT performer (score per game), he can rack up the numbers. However looking at the below stats he cannot play a full season so is WAY too risky a pick at full premium price.

Year    Games    Average
2005    13    50.1
2006    10    81.7
2008    5    61.0
2009    16    60.1
2010    5    73.4
2011    10    84.4

Premium Player Rating:(DEF)  5/10 Butler has steadily improved year after year, he improved last season after being injured again. BUT, for DT purposes he is a MUST NOT. looking at the games per season above he just cannot be trusted.

Ok, I could keep adding links to write ups on this bloke all night, the bottom line is he is very very good, he is ready to go at AFL level, If the saints play him early he is a dead set must have.

Rookie Player Rating: 7.5/10 gun in the making, afl body, lot of hype likely to play early games like him a lot and with a full AFL preseason under his belt and a successful nab cup he should find a spot in you rookie FWD line.

Thanks Cicjose, you guys have done tons of these write ups, I don't want to link to them like some pirate but if you see any come up please feel free to add the links, I will try to check before I do a player to see if you have already reviewed. Hard part is finding the links when they get old and drop off the first page I guess.
