They're entirely random, but can occur to anyone over 30.

does the player's training program affect it at all?

Yes and no. Yes as in you can train things so that they are less likely to plop as they are receiving training in that thing, but no as they are random so a batter can plop in bowling and a bowler in keeping etc. They really only start plopping hard around 32.

At just 22, Jay Cartwright is outs/outs medium, with expert fielding, expert captaincy and spectacular experience. Ayrton Senna is my recently purchased 20yo wristy, who is now expert/expert with capable endo. Both guys definitely worth the $400k I paid for them   8) ;D

Yeah I am training that atm Fletch just bowling and its taking so long but he will get there. Am going spec bowling, fielding to reliable then power whore

Cheers Fletch - yeah he is coming along nicely. I smashed his fielding for the best part of 2 seasons and now he should be about halfway to spec/spec. I estimate he should get to excep/excep somewhere around his 24th birthday and then I'll whore his power  :)

Hoping he will be good enough to get a NAT gig at some stage.

At his rate, could get some in 2 seasons (Excep/Excep should solidify himself in the NAT scene). His experience probably means he may be saved though as he doesn't need more compared to others ;).

Probably my best week of pops for ages! Double pop for Mordt, pop for upcoming batsmen Buschy, and a power pop for Hemming!

I'm going to put Hemming on Bowling, as his secondaries are pretty good - Excep/Excep + Good Secondaries by the next WC? Exp is the only let down  :(
