Pumas Awards Night

The giant awards ceremony planned to be held after touring through the streets of Sao Paulo showcasing the WXV Trophy was scrapped, mainly to do with the Pumas elimination from the competition (well all to do with it really), and instead a small ceremony was conducted for the players and their WAGS. There were two awards on offer for the night, namely the Gato Grande (Big Cat) for the Sao Paulo Pumas best and fairest and the Gatinho (Little Cat) for the best and fairest from the Campinas Oncillas.

Each award utilised a different voting system. I wont go in to too much detail, but for the Gato Grande each player in the match was awarded between 0 and 5 votes that correlated with what position they play in and the score they received for the match. If you want to work out what scores were required for each vote it is pretty simple to work out for yourself ;) For the Gatinho a simple 3-2-1 vote system was used in each match given to the 3 highest scoring players. So without further ado here are the votes :)

That concludes the voting, and now to announce the winners!!

The Gatinho will be presented first. In 3rd place with a total of 9 votes, the vice captain of the 2012 Reserve All-Worlds Team... Jason Porplyzia!! In 2nd place with 13 votes, a player constantly going between the two clubs... Dan Hannebery!! Which means the winner and first ever recipient of the Gatinho, with a massive total of 21 votes....

Mitch Duncan

Congratulations Mitch on a superb season for the Oncillas. Hopefully bigger and better things await you in 2013 and more opportunities arise to play for the Pumas :)

Now we move on to the bigger fish, or more specifically the bigger cat ;) The top 3 of the Gato Grande are as follows. In 3rd place with an impressive total of 33 votes for a guy who struggles in the sun with his pasty skin and red hair... Sam Jacobs!! In 2nd place with 37 votes one of the hardest men on the footy field, and will always put his body on the line to help out a team mate... Beau Waters!! But way out in front with a massive 54 votes, and the inaugural winner of the Gato Grande, everyone's favourite little master...

Gary Ablett

A superb player and captain all season, Ablett is a deserving winner of this award.

Well that's it folks. To check out how everyone polled in each match check the images below :)

Loved the write-up CF :)

Interesting B&F system, I think it works well! Though 6th to Sloane is a surprise to me.

CrowsFan

Thanks Ossie. The scoring system used was one that gives the positions other than mids a better chance at getting votes since they have to score less points to get them. I think Sloane in 6th was a fair placing, because all players above certainly deserved to be there. Waters had a superb season in defended, Roughy dominated up forward and Jacobs and Minson were awesome in the ruck all year. I'm sure he'll finish higher next season though :)

It's been a busy first week of the trade period for the Pumas. After what was a disappointing end to the campaign the Pumas have wasted no time in changing up the squad in an attempt to freshen it up for a charge at the premiership next season. Four players have already left the club, with 5 returning in their place, and questions must be asked whether the Pumas have finished their trading or will there be more to come?

The first trade completed saw our oldest player Sam Fisher make the trek north to Toronto, with promising midfielder Taylor Adams heading to the warmer climes of Brazil. Picks were also exchanged in this deal with the Pumas gaining pick 32 in exchange for pick 53.

The second trade saw the second oldest player on the playing list Daniel Cross move to the busy city of New Delhi. Moving to Sao Paulo are two youngsters with bags of potential in Matthew Buntine and Jared Polec, both of whom were taken at pick 5 in the '11 and '10 national drafts respectively.

Trade three involved young forward Jarryd Blair head to the pacific with experienced forward Andrew Walker becoming a Puma. We also swapped pick 71 for 26.

Pick 26 didn't last long however with it being used in the fourth trade which saw another young forward, this time Steven Motlop move to Tokyo along with picks 26 and 35. Jack Gunston made the move to Brazil in return.

Stay tuned for any more trade news as it happens :)

For some the international draft is just warming up, but for the Pumas it is already over. The Pumas only had two picks during the draft (picks 16 and 31) and so have finished their drafting early. With the two picks the Pumas picked up exciting young midfielder Jonathan O'Rourke with pick 16 and tall forward Mason Wood with pick 31. Everyone at the Pumas is very excited by the potential both these players have and hope they have a long career at the club. A season playing for the Oncillas looks likely for both players, but if they work hard during preseason there is no reason why they couldn't get some games for the Pumas in 2013 :)

Jonathan O'RourkeMason Wood

JBs-Hawks

Definately got the steal of the draft with o rourke.

CrowsFan

I certainly wasn't complaining when he slipped to 16! :D

JBs-Hawks

Could understand slipping in Euros but being renowned for being classy should equal SC points

Thanks purple :)
Certainly takes a long time, but makes the thread look nicer :) Just annoying that the Saints and Roos didn't have a picture of Roberton and Wood yet :(

Maca24

Did the saints pick up Roberton?  ???
