It is strange that if an uncontracted player decides to walks out, they can be lost for no compensation...however you get compensation when a free agent leaves. If Tippett or Caddy leave through the draft I imagine that would change next season.

it is a bit bizarre- however you have to think of it from 2 perspectives, the clubs and the player.

with free agency, a player walks out, and the club gets compensated, nobody really loses out

if an uncontracted player gets delisted, then yes the club loses out, but so does the player (they go into the rookie draft dont they? and rookies only need to get paid 50k a season), so most players wont let it progress to that state- if a trade cant be organised, tippett will probs sign.
