Hopman Cup started today, Brisbane International tomorrow, on 7mate and on 7Two. :) So much tennis, so much sport, fun fun fun. :D
Stosur and Tomic tonight up against Raonic and Eugenie Bouchard in the Hopman cup. :) Also playing in Perth are Tsonga, Isner and Sloane Stephens, Radwanska, Kvitova and Stepanek. :) Good lineup.
Did someone say Bernard Tomic?

Yeah, I would watch it, but I feel my other brain won't be able to contain himself. :P\\
Sharapova, Tsonga, Dimitrov, Cornet, Kvitova, Stepanek all on tonight. :D Going to have to split screen the TV. Shame there's no triple split option for the BBL too though :P

Sounds like a good night to get back into Tennis :D.
Jesus Stosur, just lost to Penneta 4-6 4-6. >:( Now puts the pressure on Tomic to beat Seppi and then they need to win the doubles.
Stosur is a flog.
And to think people laugh and argue when I say Stosur is shower.
Still reckon that it was only by pure fluke that she won the US Open...

I think you've done a very good job there Jukes. However I wouldn't go up to Stosur or Williams and show them that leaderboard, seen their guns?! :o They'll knock our heads in ;D
Sharapova too low :-*
But really looking forwards to our summer of tennis, love the AO!

Serena can't beat the men, that's just silly :P unless they do check under her skirt, then maybe she can play with the boys :o
If Sam gets it right, no doubt she can win a big one, well, she did
Steven Bradbury was funny though :P
I reckon in a one setter she'd push David Ferrer. Over 5 though probably not, as she wouldn't be used to playing for 5 sets and Ferrer would wear her down.

Onya Lleyton well done you little champ. ;)
How impressive was our Lleyton today :-*
pffft Fed wouldn't care the difference is Hewitt gives 100% all the time like most aussie do (expect Tomic :P )
Fed and the bigger names coast along at these lead up tournys at like 70 or 80%i reckon and if they win they win but if they get broken they don't try that hard imo to win it back not like at the Grand slams
and no i'm not being negative like BP :P
just remembering last year Hewitt won Kooyang the 3 ppl he beat you ask ?
Raonic, Berdych and Del potro
and they said the exact same thing that aussie tennis was alive and well in hewitt come on hewy etc etc
then he went and lost in the first round for the 6th time in his career at the aussie open
seriously i'm not being anti aussie i'm simply looking without rose colored glasses
while the rest of Australia look at it with them on
i can compare it to judging a biggest loser contest while wearing beer goggles
it looks good at the time but we all know that really it isn't...lol

Lleyton is an arrogant flowering dickhead. Every single grand slam he has been knocked out of it has been the court's fault/the referee's fault/the racquet's fault
He's such a flowering loser and now he'll have enough confidence to play for another 3 years because he beat Federer when he wasn't even putting 100% in

Meh good win for Hewitt and he is still good enough to be top 20 but in a grand slam still don't think he'd get close to Fed.
Cornet vs Radwanska in the Hopman cup was gripping to watch. Hopefully Cornet can keep up that sort of form.
I mean the Hewitt vs. Federer meant a lot more to Fed than it did to Lleyton.
Credit goes to Hewitt obviously, but not good signs for Roger if he wants to make any sort of form return in the AO

Aus Open draw is taking place.
Tomic just drew Rafa. ;D
Tomic has had chances against Nadal in early rounds of Tournaments before. Let us just see what he is really made of and whether he can capitalise this time. Feel for Rafa as well as it is not an easy first up match for him and he could lose the No 1 ranking with a first round exit.
Ash Barty v Serena Williams in first Round not good for the youngster but has nothing to lose.
Hewitt v Andreas Seppi . On form Hewitt should win given Matosevic defeated him in Sydney.
Stosur v Zakoplava
Duckworth v Federer another tough draw for an Aussie
Lleyton with the early break vs. Murray 8)
What the hell has gotten into Hewitt :o
He'll probably get beaten first round now :P
He did the same last year Chumps, so not too surprising. However this year he has Seppi, not Tipsarevic. ;) Matosevic beat Seppi, so Hewitt has a very good chance. :)
Seppi will win imo
Stosur v Zakoplava, whom she just lost to

17s only legal for 19 year olds aren't they?
I wouldn't know what legal, I'm not an expert in this area. ;)

I think a 16yo is legal for 18, 17 legal for 19.. then it's all fair game after that
I think that's how it works
If you're 16 or 17 it's legal as long as the other participant is within two years of age. Once your 18, your fair game for everybody :P

Definitely down. I think the rule should be times your age by 0.49, add 7 and round to the nearest whole number :P
Or maybe like, either your age minus 2, or if she's an 8 or higher.
16 is the legal age.

Thanasi eh? Good Greek boy.
All of you guys settle down and get back to tennis. If you don't, thread will go down the same route as Ashes thread. And will probably go straight to suspensions as the heat is making me nippy so DON"T PUSH IT.
flower me, this is tense!
that's what we wanna see HP! get angry mate.
cmon Hewy!
Ggwp. Go Monfils.
Well, at least he went out fighting! :(
That was some fight back though. Feel for Hewitt but great Spirit shown! Susie youngsters looking great so far this tourney as well :D.
Carn the big Kokk ;D
I know Kokky's a year younger than Kyrgios but I'm not sure who has the biggest winners, which is good!
That Kyrgios though wow, what a serve!!
and as we knew hewitt despite been talked up just like last year brings in his 7th first round exit
just doesn't have the weapons with the newer age players
now if he could just teach tomic to fight like that though

What the hell has gotten into Hewitt :o
He'll probably get beaten first round now :P
Called it :P
Great effort from Hewitt though. 2 sets and a break down and he ended up with a match point.
Hewitt is such a fighter - he can't say he didn't have a go. Sad to see him go out early but that was a mammoth game and I daresay the winner would have struggled next round regardless given the length of that game.
Kok going alright though! This kid will be a player, he has some big ground strokes on him!

pffft Fed wouldn't care the difference is Hewitt gives 100% all the time like most aussie do (expect Tomic :P )

Is Tomic actually injured or is he just making excuses. Terrible thing to consider, but when you've got his track record it has to be considered.
Nearly as bad as Murray with all his pseudo injuries.
Tomic retired
in tomic's defense i this one he did the injury like 3 points into the match he wasn't in trouble (i.e wasn't looking like getting broken)

To be fair to Tomic, he was injured tonight. Did people really expect him to finish the match when he couldn't even run properly? Or would everyone have preferred him to lose the last 2 sets 6-0 when he is hampered by injury?
+ injure his body.
If he was injured, I've got no problems with that. I dislike the fact that players pull out willy nilly now though as it makes the difference between pulling out for a legitimate reason as opposed to giving up too convoluted. Not saying Bernie did, it's just hard to tell.

Yeah the real annoyances are when players (who are usually top 30 seeded) throw hissy fits on the court and just retire.
Tomic has lost in straight sets to Nadal before, I would doubt he didnt want to continue
Why would Tomic quit on purpose. He was playing the no.1 seed, so no embarrassment if he lost to him. I thought it was a legit injury. Plus I'm not his biggest fan, but I reckon with a good tough coach, he could still make a great career out of tennis. 4 things he needs. Train twice as hard, get his head right, good hard coach, and lose his dad in a tennis perspective, I don't mean family wise
Could not agree more except I would put get head right as his no 1 priority. He is a bit of a Party animal as well so training harder and longer would be great as well.
Also not his biggest fan but injury was did appear legit and at his age you have to look after body to ensure you make the most of your time in the sport.

Windy is correct The have only played each other 4 times believe it or not with Williams winning all four.
From Todays preview:
"Ivanovic has not won a set against Williams in four meetings, but the Serb is on a roll after winning a tune-up tournament in New Zealand"
Well still she is a former world number 1. She isn't the worst player left int he tournament even if she was ranked 50+ a few years ago.
Yes she was No 1 Noz which is why I found they have played each only other 4 times previously a bit hard to believe until I checked.

Only could listen on the radio but I don't care.
Wondered when you would surface - How is Japan
Really enjoying it, bit busy for me though.
Listening to the match made me miss out on all the stuff I had planned fir the day, but I would do it again.
Would gave given anything to be at the match, but hey Ana one it's been a great day.
I might have to find a tv for the bouchard game.
Ana often plays a brilliant match than stumbles the next game, let's hope that doesn't happen.
Ajde
Wawy to knock off Djoko this time imo. :) A Wawy vs Berdych semi would have some fire power in it!
Wasn't too happy with the way the commentators went about it with Ana, disrespectful to someone who has done most things in the sport

What happend? Anyone with any tennis knowledge should know that when she is on she is a clear top 5 player.
Sharapova and the Bryan brothers both out
Li Nah...going along nicely.....watch out for her... 8)
Well, the womens championship, atm is Shrieka's to lose, but if she goes... It is anyones game. Any of the remaining 8 (Backing Radwanka to win tonight) can take the title, especially with the two I've mentioned will play each other in the Quarters.
flower Andy Murray! Haha woo, go Robert ;D
Do not, EVER, discount Roger Federer.
Federer is amazing. He will win another major if he keeps up this kind of form.
Jo Wilfred :(
Got smashed tonight.
Ivanovic about to serve for the first set
Yeah, Fed looked brilliant last night. Starting to like how Radwanska plays the more I watch her as well!

Stan vs Berdych next round is going to be insane.
I really hope Federer and Nadal both lose, means there's more of a chance of somebody new/different winning for a change.
I want to see a Murray - Berdych final.
An all Swiss final for me :P

I'd love to see Grigor vs Stan, but that's gotta be super unlikely. :P
Still Nadal for me. :\
All Swiss final would be funny. I hope Rafael makes it though.
I still can't believe that last volley that Novak missed, he is going to have nightmares about that one, I've been there before.
That was an amazing match of tennis though, these two are developing quite the rivalry.
I'm going for Berdych from here.
Nadal to beat Berdych in the final
I like Wawrinka to beat Berdych, both guys would be seeing this as their opportunity though. Wouldn't get a much better chance to win a major!

So if Federer wants to leave the Aus Open as Swiss number 1 player, he must make the final.

no i'm saying that nadal really may be in pain but the way his playing looks like a kid who hgas cracked the showers
and yes he seems to have an injury but so did murray and he tried harder it seemed
and yeah everyone on here gives it to tomic
i don't doubt there is some injury there but he doesn't look like his trying to play through it really
(though now think his painkillers starting to kick in and playing a bit better but yeah)
if wawrinka ends up losing this due to not wanting to take advantage of a injured foe then i'm gonna spit chips)
Edit: BTW nadal has back soreness
murray was same after back surgery awhile ago still giving him problems

Yeah absolute BS those odds, betting agencies should be ashamed, utter disgrace, but so were the odds throughout the tournament! Players to win in three sets at $1.18, flowering assholes!
Interesting to see a new name on the grand Slam list.
This is the winners of the last 35 Grand Slams
Federer 13
Nadal 13
Djokovic 6
Murray 2
Wawrinka 1
Shows the domination in Mens Tennis over the last 9 years.

yeah was looking intot hat myself yesterday the worst being wimbledon
this shows how much the big 4 have dominated
the last person not int he big 4 to win wimbledon was Hewitt in 2002 :o
Didnt Del Potro win the US Open?

Didnt Del Potro win the US Open?
yeah he did but i was talking about wimbledon
longest one of the grand slams since one of the top 4 haven't won it
11 years hewitt being it in 2002 since then either fed, nada, djoker or murray have won it
Fairly sure daz that Jay was just pointing out that the list Ringo put up was incorrect since he doesn't have Del Potro on it even though he had won the US Open in 2009.
The actual list if you look at the last 9 winners of each tournament (so 36 in total) is...
Feds - 13
Nadal - 13 (8 French Opens)
Djokovic - 6
Murray - 2
Wawrinka - 1
del Potro - 1
All correct missed Dal Potro so thanks Guys but take out the bottom and the top 3 have won 32 of last 36 grand slams very dominant performance by the three and Joker imo will dominate as well for the next few years.

my bad :)
Watch language please Tbag :).
Yeah, that is pretty much domination by the top 3. Nadal pretty much owned French Open for such a long time and Fed usually does well everywhere despite getting on a bit recently. Hopefully get a few more popping up here and there to snatch a title like Del Potro and Wawrinka, makes things a little interesting :P.
Wawrinka now ranked number 3 in the world after his win!
Also his hometown has been renamed from Saint-Barthelemy to Stan-Barthelemy! ;D
Well played by Stan to get up there! Disappointed that my boy Rafa didn't get up but good to have someone new on the winners list I guess :)

Rafa should retire instead of going on like this. If it isn't cramp (Which it isn't) he should retire.
Torp that's a stupid call mate. I'd much rather see a player battle on through pain and cramps than see them retire (trust me I've been to Rod Laver to see big names retire in the past, and I've been there to see Rafa struggle through pain only to lose, and I can easily tell you which one I would prefer). And if you weren't the physio out on the court at the time I don't think you can be saying he wasn't cramping/injured. :)
I don't really see us winning the Davis Cup tie against France. Up against Gasquet, Tsonga, Monfils and Bennetau on clay.
Will be hard as you say BB on clay but Davis Cups as we know can through up the upsets. Can not see it in this case though as Australians are not strong on clay courts.

Would be a wise move for us to take a potters wheel with us and make some bowls and vases out of the court atleast we will walk away with something. :P
Anyone heard the story about Stan's tattoo? It's a pretty awesome story.
He's got a quote from Irish poet Samuel Beckett on his left arm that says: "Ever tried. Ever failed. No Matter. Try Again. Fail Again.
Fail Better."
Quote
"I never expected to win a Grand Slam. I never dreamed about that because, for me, I was not good enough to beat those guys. It shows me that I've been doing the right thing for many years."
As for the tattoo, Wawrinka said that Beckett's words had been "in my head for a long time. It was part of my life, how I see life, and especially how I see tennis life. Before today, I always said that unless you are Roger, Rafa or Novak, you lose every week."
"When you lose it's tough to take a positive from a defeat, from failing at a tournament. In general that's how I see my career. I always go back to the court. I always go back to practise, to try to improve myself to give myself the best chance to beat the best players in the world. To fail better."
Amazing stuff.
It is pretty amazing that Warwrinka has won this slam, he has improved so much in the last year.
For the last 5 years he has been ranked around the 20 mark, with a 250 title here or there, but, besides the gold medal with Federer, not a great career to speak of with any real achievements.
Then last year, he almost makes the quarters at the Aussie Open, has a decent year where he makes a lot of finals, makes the semis at the US and goes to the World Tour Finals for the first time, sneaking in at 8th.
Then he gets on the good side of the draw in Melbourne, still has to face the 1st, 7th and 2nd seeds, beats them all and wins a maiden Grand Slam at 28. Pretty amazing story.
Came so close to Djokovic last year he really deserved it
And now he's gone from 8th to 3rd in the ATP rankings. I reckon the only way is up for him now.
Del Potro's gone in to 4th too. Murray down to 6 and Federer to 8.
Oh, and Tomic's the 4th best ranked Aussie in the ATP rankings with Lleyton, Matosevic and Ebden all ahead of him now.
As for the WTA rankings, Dellacqua has gone to 80 from 120, hope she continues to rise.
It feels so weird seeing different names up in the top 4. It's good to see some competition in the sport again.

+1.
So used to seeing Djoker, Nadal, Federer and Murray in the top four.
We learnt 3 things from the australian tennis summer
1) Stan is the Man
2) Everyone loves Genie Bouchard
3) Bernard Tomic is still the world's biggest pu$$y
Points wise:
Rafa: 14k
Novak: 10k
Stan: 5k
Massive difference between top 2 and the rest, yet Stan beat both in the past 2 weeks. :o
Rafa won something like 10 of 13 tournaments after he came back from injury last year. Just crazy.
