A thread to ask for finals advice...

So I finished on top of my ladder in my cash league.  I really want to get this weeks win on the board so I get the bye.  I have 3 trades left and 50K in the bank, these are the differences in our teams (my team is on the left and I feel it is stronger).

Z. Williams - Sicily
Whitfield - Hartlett
B. Smith â€" Ryan (Logue)

J. Kelly (Clarke) - Cunnington
Fyfe - Parker
Sloane - Pendles
M. Crouch â€" B. Crouch

Boak - Daniel
R. Gray - Marshall

He's already got Ryan out, not sure if he has any more trades left otherwise he will roll with Logue.  I've got Jelly still injured and not sure if he makes his way back this week.  Otherwise my worst players on form are M. Crouch and R. Gray.  I feel like I win most of those match-ups on paper, and it will depend on captain choices, at the moment I'm thinking Gawn into Grundy.  What should I do? Sit or trade?

RoughRed

IMO Your matchups are in your favour with the exception of RGray v Marshall
Not sure of how that would impact the overall results but he has proven to be a big winner this season - I would get him in if I could

Ok so found out he has no trades left, I think I'm safe to sit, but wonder if I should use 1 trade to make some cash now so I could possibly make an upgrade or 2 deep into the finals.  Knowing my luck his Ryan cover in Logue will go 100+.  ::)

I’m gonna jump on your thread.

Playing for a week off so also want to win.

Have 4 trades and $222k.

Different players are as follows. My team is left.

Sicily v Tom stewart
Zerrett v Dusty
Sloane v B Crouch
Sheed v Taranto
Macrae v Bont
Dahl v Walters

It’s pretty close but Dahl needs to go. I’d love to bring in Marshall but would need 2 trades. Alternative is I grab any other forward (Daniel, Lycett, Walters?) and use only 1 trade.

Thoughts?

Watch the scores throughout the round and make a winning trade on Sunday if you're going to lose but can salvage a win.

Good call, I'm not used to making trades after the round has started!

Wowee I'm the absolute opposite - never trade before the round has started and always trade during the round once final teams have been announced 90 mins out

I'm in the same situation as you guys too - finished 1st and really want to get the W as not only does that take me straight to prelims it guarantees me $$$ too

I think my opponent and I only have 5 POD's too, so a little 5 vs 5 coming up

We both have Ryan - hoping he has no trades left!

Ingram

Andrews to Simpson? 2 left
or also do Ziebell to Kelly and have 1 left.

Fwiw I reckon you definitely want Marshall in finals one way or another. With four trades I'd say now is the time to do that.

Jimmykidd

I'm top 4 in all leagues, have 3 trades left, only 23k in bank though and need to trade Ryan. No bench cover.

Best option at 460k and under? I'm liking Simpson because it gives me a bit of spare cash to use for my final 2 trades. But there's plenty of options. Stewart, vlastuin, mills, Clark, b smith. Already have rich & Sicily.

Trading on Sunday actually doesn't help at all, no PODs playing that day, except he has Pendles.

Well whenever you think the PODs will make a difference (or not) is when you should trade or hold. Just monitor. You might know by Saturday night if you need to make a move.

Also, in terms of captaincy, Gawn is the very obvious VC. If you think you're going to lose, I'd recommend a POD VC before Gawn so that you can use Gawn as the C if they flop.

Hadn't looked at Captains properly, but was leaning Gawn VC into Grundy, I feel I only need to match my opponent, if Gawn goes 115+ then I'll take it, it will leave them to risk the captaincy with someone else, but it may backfire if their POD captain goes off.  If anyone needs to be traded it's probably M. Crouch, I could trade him, move Danger into the middle and bring in Marshall.

Yep Dahl vs. Walters looks a concern. 3 months ago you'd be crazy to think Dahl + $222K could not get you Marshall. Anyway, I reckon Worpel as the safest option. It could actually be a good week to run into Walters. Geelong been pretty miserly this season.

Gray vs. Marshall is a worry. Especially if Wines is named (50/50 this week). Having said that I am not sure there is any FWD at $507 that you could comfortably say would beat Gray on any given week making it a largely non-forced sideways trade. Burn 2 trades & get Marshall would be nice but leaves just the 1 trade. Not enough one would think. If you had 4 I would but 3? The good old hold & hope I reckon.
