I would like Collingwood supporters to list in order (starting with a number) the reasons why our club is so much better than the cheating, silver spoon, morally bankrupt mob that reside at Visy, Plumbing, Optus, blue M&M Park.
I'm sure other supporters will join in, every comment is just confirmation of their secret lust of the black & white.
May I make a start.
1. - Colling are a better club than Carlton beacuse we didnt recruit Mick McGuane, Mick Martin and Corey McKernan about five years after they played their best football.
Lets see you get to 10 ;D
2. Collingwood is a better club than Carlton because Pie fans stick by them through think and thin

collingwood supporters have no teeth
1. essendon is a family club and collingwood are scums hhaha
3. Collingwood are a working class club who just happen to have the biggest support (and membership) of any AFL club. We also happen to love that everyone hates (or in reality is jealous) of us.

Typical Carlton supporters, writing off Half of a Australia in a single comment. No wonder Fev thought you guys were feral :)
That's another one!
5. Fevola never played for Collingwood
Fev was a good player, so i still think that one shouldn't count ;D Still on 4, can you crack 10?

5 - was a given. Mick McGuane, Collingwood ledgend was recruited by Carlton when he could hardly walk let alone kick to reignite their midfield and Mick repaid their faith by rocking up to training drunk and starting a fight. Nice one Mick, the perfect plant.

got to admit Cruis - at least your in there swinging
6. Pies are better than Carlton because you may be able to get over the line, but you suck at foreplay
8 - Because Vic Park was a warm and friendly family venue to watch football as opposed to the Princess Park which as the name suggests was full of hate, evil and fear. ;)

You'll note there were two no.6's due to a Miss Pies post.

Haha. That's gold.
Ok this is my only legit reason to hate Carlton. and none of you Carlton or non-Carlton supporters can knock this one. Not by a long shot.
10. The only reason I could possibly hate Carlton is because so many Pies supporters hold a grudge against them for reasons that happened before they were even born. So YES I despise Carlton for the fact they are able to make 99% of Pies hate you.!
Sorry but I stand by this. Most of you only hate Carlton because you are hence my topic 'Running with the pack'
PS. Could it be I make Pies supporters hate one of their fellow barrackers?
Criuseon I asked for your own opinion not something that runs with the pack of 100 years. That is like saying you hate aborigine just because they were here before us.

MissPies, I don't hate anyone or anybody except Phil Collins and the Carlton Football club. Maybe John Howard as well if I was pushed.
I'm possibly a bit older than you so the late 70's as a young kid and the early 80's did some long term damage. But rivarly can date back more than the last 10 years and be relevant.

CFC there is not much action on the old Carlton threads in the last few days, you have to dust the cobwebs off just to get in.
I guess that will happen with fair weather supporters. Looks like Essendon is about to overtake the Carlton on the number of posts!

Maybe they can build on from that!
16. In the past 10 years, Collingwood has made more final and grand final appearances.
P.S only doing this to help them out and get a laugh out of it ;D
17 Collingwood are a better tem than Carlton because Collingwood lost to Geelong last time they played :)
18. Collingwood are a better team than Carlton because if Lou Richards played in the forward pocket for Collingwood next week he would add pace to their team ;D
19. Collingwood are a better team than Carlton because they "look after" Joffa.
Come on guys. This is fun ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
20. Collingwood are a better Yeam than Carlton because their fans are humble when they win and are respectful of other teams and players
Collingwood are by far the best yeam in the league. They are a far better yeam than Geelong ;D
21. Collingwood are a better team than Carlton because Gary Ablett Snr. would not get a game with them in the 80's and 90's. (According to one of their "humble" fans)

26. Collingwood is better than Carlton because they have cooler and funnier names. Brown Steele Ball (got to put them together ;D), Sidebottom, Goldsack, Wood and Dick verses O'helphim, Waite and Mclean.

28. Because Collingwood demolished them today.
29) Because Collingwood led at quarter time, half time, 3 quarter time then decided to turn it up and from what I can gather....... we were quite some way ahead at full time.

39) They have more hair, Carlton have too many shaved players, Pies have Toovey, Sidebottom, Cloke etc to have more hair put together than Carlton.
I quite like the bald angle. It is not an official reason but I've just got back from Alice Springs where you wouldn't believe who were the most popular club, yes that's right the mighty, broad appeal, community club hat is Collingwood.

One thing Alice Springs is not too concerned with is trends, fashions or bandwagons.
41. We havent been held up by cheating paper magnate crooks...
42. Our players play for the love of the club, NOT just playing for us because of extra payments. Hey Juddy...
43. We dont cheat (common carlton theme) to win grand finals, ie; Wayne Harmes in 1979 GF...
44. We didnt loose to North Melbourne last night ;D ;D
45 - we kicked 22 behinds on the weekend.

and you call us bogans.
- Carlton are better because we don't have supporters like this, people who's lives are the football team they support, sad really.
- Carlton 16 Premierships, Collingwood 15.
- In the last 50 years, Collingwood have won two premierships, Carlton have won 8. Collingwood were a powerhouse side in 20's when players were war vets who played cricket and wanted to keep fit.
- Carlton are better because we are not looked down upon and hated.
- Carlton are better because we haven't lost 27 Grand Finals, we are not chokers.
Late to the party I know.
There's 5 reasons why Carlton is better, at least my reasons were real.
Wow it's taken 16 pages on this thread before Junktimer finally took the bait.
Dougie my congratulations on the use of 'introverted bogan', very nice.
yeah I tried to hold back.
Cruise are you going to respond to my comment or take sense and admit defeat?
here we go the start of another rivalry.lol. love it
Carlton do have supporters like this, every team does. Collingwood have more just because we have more supporters across the board :)
Carlton 3 Spoons, Collingwood 2 :) Collingwood more wins than any other team. Yes, you have more premierships, but perhaps not for long.
Carlton have won 7 in last 50 years. Should be ashamed trying to count 1995 as a win. If it was Collingwood cheating, I wouldn't count it.
The Pies were a Powerhouse in the 1920s. Just about the toughest time this country has had to do. They were a symbol of the working class spoken in the same breath as Bradman and Pharlap. Whereas Carlton were silver spoon boys. The 20s were a time when players would play with injuries just so that they could get their match-payments to feed there families, yeah, that's so much worse than "general soreness" attitude of today.
Carlton are hated, and every non-Carlton supporter LOVED those 3 spoons you won recently.
And I fail to see the logic that the fact that Collingwood have almost lost more Grand Finals (25, not 27) than Carlton have been in (29) as evidence that you're greater, lol. Yes, we choked sometimes. But you can't choke unless you were the better team ;)
I was happy with the three spoons recently, we got three guns for it.
1979 spoon earnt you shower all. As did 99, where you picked up Josie Fraser and Danny Roach (ROFL) with your picks 1 and 7, Richmond esque.
1906, 1907, 1908, 1914, 1915, 1938, 1945, 1947, 1968, 1970, 1972, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1987, 1995. We won in 95, and how you construe it means squat.
Carlton may be disliked, but are not looked on with shear hatred, (apart from Collingwood and Essendon), see here http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,23302.msg279585.html#msg279585 (http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,23302.msg279585.html#msg279585)
Collingwood is hated by all.
Collingwood's 25 Grand Final losses are a sign of failure, Malcolm Blight once said:
Losing a Grand Final is like dancing with your sister.
So claim them if you please.
I love that even the most one eyed supporters can't even rebut to the fact that you have won 2 premierships in the last 50 years!
At least we made it to the dance :) 25 losses is BAD. Don't you worry, well aware of that. Striving to be better and to make up for it. Just saying, claiming that 40 top 2 finishes makes a team crap, is well, simply ludicrous :)
But...
Quote from: JunktimerI was happy with the three spoons recently, we got three guns for it.[/url]
Ends your argument. That is why Collingwood are better than Carlton. We don't brag about coming last.
Carlton fans were happy to come last. My how you've fallen.
how somebody feels about their team's placing for the year doesn't reflect the club. cmon ossie.
I know many who weren't happy with the spoons, thats just me.
Carlton 16, Collingwood 15. THAT ends the argument.
Carlton 16? Why would you want to brag about your Premiership drought? Strange these Carlton supporters. Over a decade without even one tiny finals win, in a comp where 50% make the finals, seems to have distorted their view.
To be honest Junktimer i think you just don't get it (or you haven't read to 220 posts in this thread) but I reckon even the Dogs are a better club than Carlton. Nothing to do with flags, just the way they offer support and leadership to their community. They are in fact part of their community whereas Carlton have never cared, John Elliot Park is an example, corrupt, trying to beat the system, cheating. The community were irrelevant.
However you enjoy your flags from yesteryear if you can remember them or you can pull out the old Betamax tape and have a look. Meanwhile down at Collingwood we are simply comfortable being the undisputed reigning Premiers.
Whats collingwoods biggest premiership drought?
So now where not a helping club? you guys are getting pretty desperate.
If you must know, my mother works at a school for intellectually disabled children, and Carlton send down to players every year to run clinics and teach those kids how to play the game. Last year Chris Judd and Jarrad Waite were the two.
I don't see how Collingwood do any more community work or how they offer more leadership to the community than Carlton. Such claims are just unfounded and illogical.

I get what you mean but this thread was all about fun in the first place :P.
To be fair it is on topic, basically another reason why Collingwood is better than Carlton is because Miranda Kerr is a signed up Collingwood supporter.
I don't think anyone is getting hurt, or we are being mean, it is just that a picture tells a 1000 words.

Reason 234 - Collingwood beat carlton in the NAB Cup. Not important I know, perhaps this only counts as 1/2 a reason.
Reason 235: Carlton are almost bankrupt whilst Collingwood's balance sheet is like a multinational company. Do you know (and this is true) that Collingwood were able to exclude the valuation of its heritage collection which is estimated to be worth more than all of Carlton's net assets. I know its about footy but who would have thought Carlton, once a powerhouse could fall so far.

Carlton have more premierships than Collingwood.
And collingwood have 4 premierships since 1940...

The Pies have 14, they just haven't found the illegitimate salary cap breach from 2010 yet :P
Could happen, Leroy Brown was a star signature signing I've always wondered how we fitted him in.
Reason 238: Beacuse we will share the unveiling of the Premiership flag with our beloved Carlton friends on Friday so we can all share the joy.
Reason 239: Because we actually have a flag to unveil and Carlton hasn't had one since they cheated last.
Reason 240: The Pies beat Carlton again tonight without being stretched, yet Carlton feel they had a moral victory because they lost by less than 8 goals. I love that complacency.

another sterio type. The richest people in Australia are collingwood supporters, essendon supporters are just idiots who think hird will take them to the premiership this year.
btw, collingwood is better than carlton because we are on top of the all time afl ladder ( http://afl.allthestats.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47:all-time-ladder&catid=34:all-time&Itemid=56 )
and if carlton supporters say they have won more premierships, we have won less wooden spoons.

whether this is true or not (i doubt it is), it has no relevance to whether collingwood is better then carlton, essendon, or anybody else
What about reason 242: Beacause Collingwood help build up ANZAC day (yes with the assistance of Essendon) and what it stands for for a new generation and as a result get to play in front of the biggest home and away game every year. (for now anyway).
Reason 243: Essendon makes a lot of cash from Anzac Day.

Speaking of threads which need to resurface.
The Pies are better because we are 2nd on the ladder without any Premiership hype in June whilst Carlton are 3rd and getting very very excited (and even a bit cocky).
1 Reason why Carlton is better than Collingwood:
When it comes to Grand Finals, they get the job done. How many times have Collingwood made it to the Grand Final and lost?
249: Because Collingwood don't listen to the media talk them up as a flag contender, get all excited then get whipped by West Coast in Victoria in the same week. Best result of the weekend, perhaps the month. ;D
Oh how I loved this thread.
(Because I dont like Carlton, not because I like Collingwood..)
Reckon it can get to 400 before the season finishes? ;)
weren't we at like 280 at one stage?

That's right.
So this thread get's is rightful position back on top of the tree ahead of the blockbuster on the weekend.
The status as I see it is that Carlton got way ahead of themselves about both their side and Premiership chances which help sell out the G for this weekend. A couple of injuries and suddenly the bubble has burst, the coach is no good again and maybe they are not coming as they thought they were. The Pies just keep on keeping on.
But two sides in the top 4 go out to battle on Saturday and it will be huge. If the Carlton swagger which was on display in June still remains can we avoid the "we'll be happy if we are just competitive" byline. After 2 losses in 3 weeks that just won't do.
I actually think Carlton pose a genuine threat to the Pies but hope we really hope we can crush the spirits of another false dawn.
Sorry BLues fans but Collingwood is going to win this weekend.
*praying for reverse psychology*
Loving this from Wikipedia on the history between Collingwood and Carlton.
Both clubs had a friendly and mutual regard for one another. However, by the 1910 Grand Final, things had started to change.[3]
Some see the 1910 Grand Final as the turning point in the hatred between the two football clubs. Early in the fourth quarter a huge brawl broke out involving at least thirty players and officials from both clubs. Collingwood held on to win by 14 points, but four players were reported for starting the big fight and as a result were heavily suspended.
Percy Sheehan of Carlton and Jack Shorten of Collingwood both were given 18 month suspensions while Jack Baquie of Carlton and Tom Baxter of Collingwood both received 12 month suspensions.
However, Collingwood appealed the Baxter suspension and produced a written declaration from another player, Richard Daykin. Daykin wrote that it was he and not Baxter who had traded blows with Baquie.
The VFL chose to accept Daykin’s confession and cleared Baxter of his 12 month suspension. Soon after Baxter was cleared, Daykin announced his immediate retirement from VFL football. Carlton vowed never to forget this day and they soon had their revenge by winning the Premiership from Collingwood in 1915.
Wow, 18 months suspension, makes Phil Carman and John Bourke look like an angel :o
LOL. Good times indeed

Reason 368 - Because Collingwood beat Carlton, yet again. (it's not even that satisfying anymore).
Maybe this thread could be renamed, after all Collingwood is NO better than Carlton - they both cheated >:(
Cheating to win a $10 bet is a wee bit different than cheating to win a flag :)

Oh now I remember.
Not the worst thing Dids has done :c
Reason 369 - Because when it comes to match fixing Carlton have no peers.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Lang
That is three more flags that should be stripped - Carlton's real tally is 12 (same as Melbourne).
Why- He was paid to play poorly ???
Reason 370
Because we have only one tooth and are on the dole, yet still manage to keep on talking very clearly and pay membership fees every year.
Buwhahahaha.
Reason 371
Everyone wants us around when camping as we are the only ones who can open a tin can with our one tooth without a can opener ;)
What has that got to do with being better than Carlton. I'd be embarrassed to be like that.
I'd be more embarrassed to be like you... A Port supporter.
I think i'm quite unique. If Fev comes to Port as a player, i will no longer go for Port Adelaide.
So you are also disloyal? You are truly fantastic.
Quote from: 8-6 Suited on July 25, 2011, 02:27:57 PM
So you are also disloyal? You are truly fantastic.
I'm not disloyal. I support Port Adelaide nearly all the way. But if a loser like Fev comes, sorry i lose all trust.
Therefore you aren't loyal. Good decisions come bad decisions, you will never see a Collingwood supporter through and through stop supporting the Pies because of a recruitment decision, or even if the Buckley succession plan flops. While I will be irritated, I wont threaten to stop supporting them or actually do it.
Bad decisions are a way of life mate, a day to day event at every club. Get over it...
Well, it's a good thing that Fev is a 0.00001% chance of coming.

3. Collingwood are a working class club who just happen to have the biggest support (and membership) of any AFL club. We also happen to love that everyone hates (or in reality is jealous) of us.
'working class' ? Seems like a darn rich club to me
Agreed.
Club is rich, but its supporters are traditionally working class
Sum of the working parts. One now wealthy entity from many working class supporters.
For a little background check the history of John Wren.

Reason 372 - Because Collingwood will finish top 4 this year whilst Carlton have yet another elimination final battle to contend with.
Reason 373....
(just to follow on Cruise)
The Pies only needed 13 wins to make the 4 in 2002, while the Blues still aren't good enough with 15.5 ;)

Is yet another reason why Collingwood is better than Carlton (reason 374) is because no Carlton supporter is deemed responsible or wise enough to be a FF moderator.

Bit snazzy there oss.
Probably worth bringing this thread up. Remind me did the Pies beat the Eagles in September?
Yes they did. I'm disappointed in Carlton coz i wanted a Pies vs blues GF. Either way, i think that Collingwood is better than Carlton.
I actually like the way the finals have panned out. The top 4 teams all are playing a pre-lim. I think thats good.
We all know what we want the GF to be, don't we Bunyip!
I'm trying to get tickets for one of the prelims, would prefer Hawthorn vs Collingwood
but if that's all sold out I would still love to go to the Geelong/Eagles game if possible. Will do some scouring the Internet today ;)

Well turns out the Hawks vs Magpies game is already sold out, as expected, but I am in the process of getting some tickets to the Eagles vs Geelong game. Plenty left.
One reason why carlton are better than collingwood-
They don't have Heath Shaw.
I think that's enough :P
Another reason why Collingwood are better than Carlto is because we are in the Grand Final. :)
Another reason why Collingwood is better than Carlton (even though I'm not a supporter) is because Dane Swan won the brownlow and Chris Judd didn't ::)

And his Brownlow year didn't contribute to any final victories that year, let alone making a GF. Also who was there to steal votes off Judd in 2010 apart from Setanta and Shaun Grigg?
Ok, I think people wont mind if I dust off this old favourite thread.
Another reason why the Pies are better than Carlton is because we have never finished 18th on the ladder. :-[

wins
Coll = 1 ( 1910 )
Carlton = 5 ( 1915, 1938, 1970,1979, 1981. )

Well played CFC ;D
The only way you can judge who is better is by who's beaten teh other the most, or who has beaten the other in certain games, or in recent times.
Not sure what the overall is, but the recent is 7/4 Pies i think and as CFC said the GF is 5/1 Blues.
I think they are both good teams. Compared to my team. :P
Collingwood has Dayne Beams... Therefore Collingwood > Carlton.
Tanking, a heap of #1 picks, salary cap trickery with Chris Judd, and still not contenders
Have you seen or met a Carlton supporter? ...Oh please... :o
Collingwood can beat an undermanned Eagles side in Melbourne ;)
let's bring some logic to the discussion
.......Carlton supporters have more teeth
How about this for a reason?
After 3 rounds Carlton were premiership favourites, and Collingwood were written off. 9 wins a row for Collingwood seem them top, and Carlton have slipped out of the 8

Well hello, so by definition the rules are being changed. So in reality we are not breaking the rules. Doesn't every club try to get ahead somehow or another. Carlton's not the only club over the years to have a breach and in fact Collingwood have had the latest breach be it a mistake as they say.

The fact that the AFL approved the Visy-Judd deal was an absolute disgrace to begin with. But fair, not really Carlton's fault if the AFL approve this corruption.
And an administrative mistake that didn't go over the salary cap anyway that the club reported itself against a systematic rorting of the salary cap is not a fair comparison....

Well it may well look like a disgrace but the AFL most probably came to the realisation that they buried a proud, successful club in the early 2000's by handing out a punishment that did not fit the crime. So who knows they could have felt they needed to give a leg up to a club they could foresee could have been out for a generation. They would have killed the greatest rivalry in Australian sport (coll/carl). We would not be currently having this banter otherwise.

Bit hard to compare across codes but stripping of 2 premierships 3 minor premierships and all competition points is quite severe penalty. Would have been interesting if the NRL Committee sat and ruled on Carlton.

Well a Sydney organisation ruling on a Melbourne club you would expect the NRL to do just what they did. It would have been interesting if it was the rabbitohs or the bulldogs. The only other club that would have got the same would be Manly I suppose.
Apologies all but its time to bring up an old favourite thread given this weekend's activities.
It goes without saying that Collingwood would never, in a million years, poach, accept, employ, seek out or enter a contract with a former Head Coach of Carlton. Its just unthinkable.
I did like Dennis Paegan's work at Carlton, but employing him is another matter.
Go Pies!
Not bad timing. You would have to think the woods are favourites this week with 2 recognised forwards in Cloke and Lynch to our no forwards and Eddie breaking his jaw is bad timing.
However after watching "the club" this week and seeing Eddie say after Russell backing into a pack showing courage "we've got the carlton out of him". I just wanted to get into the TV and show him a bit of what carlton could do. Made me so mad. I'm so geared to watch this match and see the blues win. Anyway all the best and I hope its a great spectacle.
On another note what Collingwood did for the kid with cancer was quite special and well done.
Hahaha I thought that comment from Eddie would rile Blues fans a bit ;D

Fidou, i'd prefer if you showed a little less class, it gets in the way of the hate & spite in the build-up to such games. Nice words.
One thing Coll v Carlton has rarely produced in the last 10 years is close games. I reckon the average margin would be over 6 goals, not sure I could handle a nail-biter.
the Pies were favourites last season early on too, that did not go well for us.
I think Mick will be GREAT for the blues and they will be a force by seasons end or next season.
but in THIS instance i think he will be the best thing that happens for the Pies in a blues game.
it is the blues attack and run and speed that blew us away last season, while they reverted to that last week after struggling to play micks way i am hopeful mick will start out again trying to play his way,
because at micks way - we are better :)
still he would remember last seasons shallacking and maybe he tells the blues this week to just come out and play attacking football. i doubt it tho as it really isnt good to play one way football and while it might just might win them one game here and there it wont win premierships....
Pies by 20, would be 40 but Beams is out :(

Not sure but I think Essendon did something wrong so that made us the 8th team and legitimate finalists and we won. Then there were 6. I know its hard for some people to handle (collingwood supporters) but the facts are we are still in the finals.
gloat, gloat, gloat!!!!!!!!

Bombers did nothing wrong in relation to what we were charged for- bringing the game into disrepute, as if the AFL and the media didn't do 99.99% of that.
Carlton didn't deserve to make finals.
*cough* butthurt *cough*

Who cares about next week. I had my day in the sun on Sunday afternoon the beer flowing, good mates and a huge comeback by the blues. Singing the song was just heaven. Who cares what happens next week, we beat richmond and collingwood lost. LG lifes good.

I see eagles came close to finals and not way down in 13th place
Hahaha. I am just glad we won! :) Hope we can put up a fight against the Swans next week.
Will be tough, but we still can beat them.

The swans will roll the dice with Goodes and it may not come off could be a winner for the blues. Fingers crossed.

Well they rolled the dice with Jetta and Rohan last week and it didn't work.....
I don't think we will able to win like we have lately.
Malthouse giving the boys a kick in the backside at half-time isn't going to do it vs Sydney.
Need to be switched on from the start.

Well your right vinny as I cant remember the last time we beat sydney. Its a bit like Richmond and us I think its 11 out of 12 wins now. I was at a syd vs carl game a few years ago at the SCG and it was Dennis's 2nd last game in charge I think and we were getting flogged and Dennis walked past us coming out at 3/4 time and my mate Brownie shouting out your doing a great job Dennis. Dennis was gone a week later and every time I see Brownie at work now I just remark your doing a great job Brownie"
I seem to be the only Carlton thread who has faith in us vs Sydney...

2563. Our midfield can get it to the fwd line this year... Blues just watch Cripps run around the field and fall over each other
