Option 7: New Delhi
Option 8: Christchurch
No one forgets the Finals Experience.
Qualifying/Elimination Finals, AFL Round 20
Home Team | Away Team | Venue | Head-to-Head |
Toronto Wolves | Seoul Magpies | Rogers Centre | 4 v 3 |
Beijing Thunder | Pacific Islanders | Beijing Olympic Park | 1 v 6 |
Dublin Destroyers | Berlin Brewers | Crooke Park | 6 v 1 |
New Delhi Tigers | Christchurch Saints | Tata Stadium | 1 v 3 |
Toronto v SeoulHead-to-Head: 4 v 3
Last time they played (Round 7): Toronto Wolves (22.11.144*) def Seoul Magpies (22.11.143)
2018 Head-to-Head: 12 v 5
Purps' Takeaway: That last encounter though! The Wolves got up on its HGA that day, for a victory by 6 SC points. Seoul perhaps knows how to play against the Minor premiers? Anyone is beatable now, with the REAL Captain Danger back at the helm. Danger game for Toronto, who will be out to break the Minor Premiers curse (all of them have failed to win the premiership).
Verdict: Toronto... on HGA.
Beijing v PacificHead-to-Head: 1 v 6
Last time they played (Round 10): Beijing Thunder (25.8.158) def Pacific Islanders (20.11.131)
2018 Head-to-Head: 5 v 12
Purps' Takeaway: The 'Jing got its first ever win over Pacific in a COMPREHENSIVE victory over the Islanders in Round 10. However, coming up against our highest scoring team of the 2018 H&A season, World Idolists and home of the best SC player that has scored 150+ in the last 5 games in Tom Mitchell, they face perhaps a more focused side than they did in Round 10. The Islanders have a lot more finals experience too than Beijing, whose last appearance was as the Bears in 2012!
Verdict: Pacific by 100+ SC points.
Dublin v BerlinHead-to-Head: 6 v 1
Last time they played (Round 13): Dublin Destroyers (23.11.149) def Berlin Brewers (23.7.145)
2018 Head-to-Head: 10 v 7
Purps' Takeaway: If I could forfeit, I would. I'm as tilted about my situation as anyone about anything. ALL I flowerING NEEDED WAS FYFE + GAWN FIT FOR FINALS! Take our last clash for example - Fyfe was subbed out in that game, and really could have been the difference between a win or a loss. I mean, nevermind that Dublin has outscored me in the past 7 rounds, my only chance to go deep into this season is injured. I could go further and say Hibberd, ZJones and Viney are unavailable too, but they really don't matter. Sigh. Still, Dublin are the better team, and deserve to win. I guess I MIGHT get another opportunity in 12 months ::)
Verdict: Dublin by 300+ SC points.
New Delhi v ChristchurchHead-to-Head: 1 v 3
Last time they played (last week): Christchurch Saints (23.11.149) def New Delhi Tigers (20.9.129)
2018 Head-to-Head: 7 v 8
Purps' Takeaway: This game is my MATCH OF THE ROUND! Fresh from playing each other as recent as last week, these two teams will have learned plenty from each other as Christchurch roared back into form and scorched the Tigers. However, Christchurch is the one travelling this week, and New Delhi will know what to expect. Can the home crowd get the Tigers over the line?
Verdict: Christchurch, by about 10 SC points.
And don't forget reserves! There are six teams (Tokyo, Buenos Aires, New York, Rio de Janeiro, London and Cairo) who have made Reserves finals but not the seniors. What I require from you, is that you
NAME YOUR BEST SENIOR 18 like you were playing finals. I will be scrutinising your best XV to determine if that is really who you would play, so as to ensure that the players available for the reserves matches are the ones that would normally be available. If I don't agree, then I will name one for you.

Windsor Warriors | La Plata Armada | Tuanaimato International Stadium |
Yuzawa Yakuza | Pyongyang Chollimas | Tokyo Olympic Stadium |
Washington Rebellion | Alexandria Hieroglyphics | MetLife Stadium |

We're so immense that we go in as favourites despite being the away team.
Waite and McVeigh likely to be back this week!! Griffen a chance but he'll probably only make the emergency list.
Premiership favourites timing our run to perfection as prognosticated.

Abbott in, but I'm not a real man.
Good luck NDT.
Bad luck to all the other teams involved this week. Except Berlin, I just pity them.
Llllllllllllllooooooyyyyyyddddddd vs Heef in the captaincy battle is an interesting development.
Danger below 120 would be lovely.
Finally Guthrie has done something, not that fussed if Lyons is a late In now. Thurlow did a great job at keeping the HGA low.
After Friday nightFirst year revelation Tim Kelly gets Toronto off to a great start, but not as good as Seoul's! Captain Danger delivered for Seoul - although not a huge as it could be - it's still a captain's score any team would LOVE, especially in a final.
A mixed bag for Beijing. Although Lambert tonned up, Ellis & Caddy were only luke-warm, and Thurlow was absolutely disastrous. Cannot really afford another player to go sub 70 if you ask me. But, this teams x-factor was always its midfield, and that is the thing Pacific are hoping will be contained. Guthrie's 99 as an emergency hurts.
A real mixed bag for Dublin. Selwood was OUTSTANDING, Martin was great, Riewoldt was probably a little under par, whilst Hawkins are Rance were well below average. Berlin's Menzel though offsets one of those performances... he really just needed to ton up though.
Menegola, whoot! Scooter... yuck. I'd personally be filthy though that flowering AFL and WXV debutant Ryan Abbott tonned up for Christchurch, I mean, WHAT A SELECTION! At least GAJ was subdued... I wonder if that missed goal at the end of the game will end up costing Christchurch the game, too?

Yup >:(
Kane Farrell already outscoring Jackson Thurlow for the Jing!
Whod've thunk it!
After Ess/Haw/Bris/North
Ha, what a pretty disastrous 2 games for 6 of our teams!
A Toronto defensive trio could only combine for 189 points, whereas Seoul's 4 players only combined for 272.
Beijing Breust did just OK, but Tom Mitchell as Captain went BANG, and has heaped pressure on Brodie Grundy to do the same to keep the Jing in it. Thank god for Zork though!
Dublin CC Todd Goldstein put in a stinker, alas, so Goddard & Basti. Gunston getting 138 murdered Hodge's respectable 89.
Stef Martin has seen better days for New Delhi, Daniel Rich stunk it up, but at least Jack Ziebell tonned up. Whilst for the Saints, 3 of their bookends combined for just 184.

Coming off back-to-back tons in the ressies, I think I can guess what's going to happen here.
Predictable.
Lyons unlikely to play, so we'll be 620/5

Brodie Grundy! Take a bow!
What great theatre in the Jing v Islanders game!
He's proving to be best of the best 8)
But still I think we'll have too many passengers this week.
After Saturday nightNeither Toronto or Seoul are hitting anywhere near their best form, but its neck and neck regardless! Captain Macrae did just fine, in an otherwise century-less day for both teams.
Grundy did an A+ job as captain, keeping the 'Jing in it! But boy have they had a lot of passengers. They'll now have to hope the Islanders remaining players puts in a stinker or two.
Buddy obviously didn't get the memo that Berlin are cooked, putting in a mammoth effort for Berlin. Gawn will have to match that effort for Berlin to have ANY hope whatsoever, and not a point less.
:-X it's not every week Sidebum and Steven combine for 127. Mind you, Christchurch don't want to win either. The remaining Saints are capable of chasing the lead down, but it all comes down the Lord Heath Shaw.

My lord Beijing has been bad this week outside of Grundy & Zorko. Hopefully we'll have a few handy ins down back next week :-X
Might have used up all your luck during the season :-\
That backline, ouch :-[
Looks like the standard "don't post anything otherwise you might curse your team" mentality from the remaining coaches.
So Levi is here to break it down:
Toronto VS Seoul
K. Simpson + J. Redden + D. Mundy + J. Hogan + J. Hopper + B. Fiorini + HGA (49) + 116
VS
C. Oliver + J. Kelly + T. Greene + C. Curnow + N. Haynes + C. Salem + C. Marchbank
This is going to be tight. You'd think that The Magpies have a few higher scorers left to come. Toronto are a total of 165 points ahead if HGA stays the same which you'd think it should. Can't help but feel this is going to come down to how well Haynes, Salem and Bank go. I think you have to stick with Toronto from here based off the fact those 3 could stink it up and negate any epic performances from Kelly, Oliver etc.
Beijing VS Pacific
C. Ward + L. Neale + B. Hill + C. Byrne + HGA (28) + 168
VS
A. Gaff + J. Witts + M. Taberner + A. Tomlinson + L. Duggan + J. Lyons C. Guthrie? + M. de Boer
Lyons for Guthrie's 99 will be a good result for Pacific. Otherwise they will definitely be biting their nails watching their remaining players today. I'll be picking Beijing from here. If the Thunders' remaining players average 80, and the Islanders' all average 100 then "Jing will still win. Pacific have Gaff. Probs game over lol.
Dublin VS Berlin
T. McDonald + S. Hill + B. Deledio + P. Davis + O. McDonald + HGA (58) + 279
VS
M. Gawn (C) + N. Jones + M. Walters + S. Frost + A. Vandenberg
Looking at this you'd think Berlin are surely no chance. I expect Dublin's HGA to take a small hit with OMac and/or Davis to get less than 58 but I still think unless everyone in Dublin under-performs and Berlin all go good, then Dublin will win. In fact if everyone remaining on Dublin scores 55 and everyone remaining in Berlin scores 100... Dublin still win. Gawn to get 165 to make things interesting. :-X
New Dehli VS Christchurch
J. Darling + E. Langdon + HGA (44) + 220
VS
H. Shaw (C) + N. Wilson + M. Murphy + S. Darcy
The Premiership Favourites, Christchurch look like they can control their own destiny here. 264 points on the board will give NDT confidence as well as the scoring potential of Darling and Langdon. Of course this will come down to Lord Heef's performance. If he can knock off all if not most of the 220 advantage then The Saints will be preparing for next week.
Not worried about the curse.
Im just waiting to see who is my next oponent
Pacific also have Gaff :-X
Davis not getting less then 58

Remember that time when Jack Darling was totally shower in the GF, not being able to take the most simple of marks? Jack Darling is going to drop the ball again in an important final. He's shower.

A crazy occurrence, it's actually amazing
New Delhi v Christchurch is tense!
As is Beijing v Pacific
And hard to believe Toronto will win reasonably comfortably despite huge individual performances from Seoul
... and hey, at least Berlin got there.
WTF Tabs and Duggan... Now Gaff will be rubbed out for the season.
Terrific Toronto absorb Seoul Trio
Despite having the best 3 players on the field, Seoul couldn't manage to not only beat Toronto, but crack 1500! They had 4 players (including Danger's captaincy bonus) combine for 765 points... and lost? I guess they had what Toronto didn't; passengers. Boy, Toronto will be hard to beat.

Beijing Heroes defeat Humbled Islanders
That midfield!!!! Grundy, Zorko, Ward... TAKE A BOW! What a performance by those 3, and boy was it necessary! After Captain Titchell went nuts for the Islanders, it almost seemed their game to lose. Enter Grundy; not only matching Titchell but also bettering him by 14 crucial points.
It even looked grim going into the last game for Beijing, with Hill & Neale needing to maintain a narrow lead over Gaff, Taberner and Duggan. But Neale & Hill stood up superbly, and Taberner & Duggan crumbled under the pressure. Game of the round!

Dublin Midfield maul Buddy's Brewers
Mid-year, my number one concern was my defence. How ironic that they were my best part of the field. Oh, how it could have been different if Fyfe played over Basti, and either ZJones or Viney could get in for Vandenberg.
But still! Dublin thoroughly deserved this win, with a rampant midfield sure to make Seoul nervous next week.

Tigers hang on against Christchurch
WOW! The close games are always thrilling, even if the scores are low. New Delhi - ONCE AGAIN THIS YEAR - get up on HGA, and really have Sam Menegola to thank for it. Heartbreak for the Saints though, as WXV debutant Ryan Abbott's selection almost proved to be the coaching move of the year.
Farewell Christchurch, and may you have a bit more luck next year.

What!? You don't want Docherty?
:'(
Once again we find a way to lose. New Delhi can finish us off next week.
flowering disgraceful coaching performance. Shaw hasn't captained the side once this season. If I had have captained any of Ablett, Gibbs, Parker or Murphy like I have in previous week's we'd be through to next week.
Congratulations though NDT. Go all the way.

New Delhi trade: Matt Crouch 127 , Pick 16 + Pick 35
New Delhi receive: Sam Menegola 144, Jack Steven 61 + Oscar McInerny 82
Pretty decent kinda depends what they would have done with the picks, Oscar was a big pick up as expected.
Unlucky meow. It wasn't high scoring but it was certainly close!

Nowhere near it

'JING!!!
An extra week off now might give us hope of forming something resembling a backline for our prelim final as well :D
