any news on Rocky do you think he will play this week

Ringo

Rocky has been cleared of a broken jaw which is good news.  Concussion will be the issue though with all testing being continued through the week. As he was out even before he hit the ground I suspect he may have difficulty passing the tests and may be out this week.  Just my opinion though.

Brisbane Lions coach Justin Leppitsch has been involved in a physical clash with a young player at a seconds game at the weekend.

Leppitsch grabbed Lions rookie Zac O'Brien in the coaches' room at half time of the NEAFL match at the weekend after the young player had disrespected the seconds coach Shane Woewodin.

It is alleged Leppitsch grabbed the rookie by the throat and pinned him against the wall as he yelled at the 24-year-old midfielder, telling O'Brien his behaviour was not acceptable. The incident was seen and heard by the rest of the team.

The club has confirmed the altercation but disputed that Leppitsch had O'Brien pinned to the wall.

Lions chief executive Greg Swann said Leppitsch had hauled O'Brien into the meeting room to dress him down after O'Brien had sworn at Woewodin.

Swann said O'Brien had walked into the meeting room and stood on the tiered seating. He said Leppitsch grabbed the player by the jumper to pulled him down off the step and told the rookie not to attempt to stand over him.

The incident occurred after O'Brien had failed to come off the ground when he was instructed to during the second quarter of the match. When Woewodin challenged him for not coming off as instructed O'Brien claimed he did not know he was supposed to come off and swore at the coach, telling him where to go.

It is understood other players heard the way O'Brien spoke to Woewodin and Leppitsch was angry at the disrespect his coach had been shown, leading to the clash with O'Brien.

Leppitsch later apologised to the playing group for the incident.

O'Brien, who played in the Lions' round two loss to North Melbourne, has been told he will not be considered for senior selection for three weeks. The NEAFL team has a bye this week.

"We spoke to Justin about the incident and we are fully supportive of the action taken," Swann said.

"As far as we are concerned the matter has been resolved and there is no further issue. He did not have him pinned to the wall, when they walked into the meeting room Zac stood on one of the tiered rows of seats and Justin grabbed him by the jumper and said 'don't try and stand above me when I am talking to you'."

O'Brien played five games for the Lions seniors last season after coming to the club as a mature aged rookie from Essendon's VFL side. He has been elevated to the senior list for a long-term injured player

Looking past what Leppa did... A kid telling a coach to flower off is disgusting and more significant. Hopefully for Brissie's sake its isolated to just O'Brien and not also thoughts of others in that group (often thats not the case though), otherwise its a much bigger issue that just this one incident.

Rusty00

Wow, this kind of stuff is the last thing the Lions needs!

Nige

Yikes, what the hell is going on at Brisbane?

The pre-season looked so promising, but it seems like the first 5 weeks from hell.

Great to see some discipline in the club.  As has been said telling a coach where to go in front of other players is not on in any sport. Leppitsch as senior coach was right in challenging the action by the player,

And this just in on twitter:
UPDATE: The Club will make a statement on the incident involving O'Brien & Leppitsch this afternoon stay tuned to Twitter for the statement.

And on another matter:
I have been trying to find link to article in today's Courier Mail with comments attributed to Leigh Matthews saying our woes are the result of a generation of drafting disasters and player retention since our 2003 premiership.  The article was interesting reading and was spot on. This report also highlights that when Leppa asked firmer recruiting head Rob Kerr for the clubs list management document he was handed a piece of paper with clubs playing list.

It highlights our drafting issues all our top 10 picks from drafts since 2003 and with Aish a virtual certainity to leave we have none still at the club. (Mitch Clark, Lachie Henderson, Jared Polec and Billy Longer were other Top 10 picks). Article also highlights that the only players we have left from the drafts 2003 - 2009 where experience should now be to the fore are Jed Adcock, Matthew Leuenberger, Daniel Rich and Jack Redden. We had a win in the rookie drafts though with Hanley and Rockliff.

Matthews expresses complete confidence in Leppa and the Board in turning this around.

Looks like we are worse than Melbourne in the drafting stakes and may have to endure a little more pain yet.

Big Mac

Not concerned at all by what Leppitsch did

Hope it doesn't turn into a massive media beat-up

This. Who gives a shower. Bloke probably deserved it and 20 years ago he would have had more than his jumper grabbed.

If I were brisbane I would be tearing up Obriens contract.
