The Away teams are on a war-path, but face their biggest challenges of the year.
Preliminary Finals, AFL Round 22
Home Team | Away Team | Venue | Head-to-Head |
Toronto Wolves | New Delhi Tigers | Rogers Centre | 5 v 2 |
Beijing Thunder | Dublin Destroyers | Beijing Olympic Park | 4 v 3 |
Toronto v New DelhiHead-to-Head: 5 v 2
Last time they played (Round 2): Toronto Wolves (24.11.155) def New Delhi Tigers (20.6.126)
2018 Head-to-Head: 13 v 5
Purps' Takeaway: Honestly, it's hard to see New Delhi winning this one. But, it was last week too! The Tigers have won both of their finals by 1 WXV point! That's freaking nuts! New Delhi got this far last year in a campaign that was cut short by the Destroyers, so they should know what it will take to win one. That might be the toughest part - knowing they probably can't do it :-X. The Wolves are in such strong form, and are such raging favourites for the premiership, that it's so hard to see them lose, let alone score below 150. But it's happened, and you never know. Wolves for me.
Beijing v DublinHead-to-Head: 4 v 3
Last time they played (Round 8 ): Beijing Thunder (25.9.159) def Dublin Destroyers (20.11.131)
2018 Head-to-Head: 7 v 11
Purps' Takeaway: The 'Jing Thing v the Finals Kings, this game is my MATCH OF THE ROUND! Dublin are the best team at finals, and I think you won't convince me otherwise, especially how they somehow managed to keep Marchbank & Curnow to a stupid low score at the death of the game just through sheer will. Fresh after participating in the game of the year however, Dublin face a rested-and-raring-to-go Thunder whom have already produced their best ever season! There is no better position to be in to get into a WXV final - a home prelim and with a star squad of midfielders fed by a helluva ruckman. It would fill me with great joy to see the 'Jing get up, and to win the premiership, so I'm going for that. I'll tip 'em too!
And don't forget reserves!Three teams (Tokyo, Buenos Aires and Seoul) who are in the Reserves finals this week are not in the seniors. What I require from you, is that you
NAME YOUR BEST SENIOR 18 like you were playing finals. I will be scrutinising your best XV to determine if that is really who you would play, so as to ensure that the players available for the reserves matches are the ones that would normally be available. If I don't agree, then I will name one for you.

You're right. I thought those comments would spur him on to have a decent game but he'll probably give away a couple of 50m penalties and/or May will punch his lights out in the third quarter.

Well, not an ideal start from Beijing with our fill-ins Rioli & Guelfi combining for just over 100 points.
On the bright side there was no 200-point Mr Brightside this week and Rance was quietish :-X
After Ess/RichBellcho gets Toronto off to a great start, whilst New Delhi will begrudgingly take an 88 from Houli.
Caddy was great for the 'Jing, Ellis was par, put Rioli and particulary Guelfi were just bad. Guelfi score just, really, really hurts. Whilst Dusty atoned for his poor captains performance last week with... a captains performance, giving Dublin a lead by 3 with one less extra played :-X

Was always going to be the way, Rioli & Guelfi clearly our weakest players. Grundy & a couple of jets later hopefully we'll be in the mix
Nick Robbo was right. Soft.
After SaturdayFark, Toronto look ominous. 7 out of their 9 players have tonned up, and their C & VC haven't even played. The Tigers will put up a decent score - and an admirable one at that - but Toronto are just at another level. Toronto will win.
This is the interesting game! Funnily enough, Beijing are all done! Thanks to a top notch score from Captain Grundy, Beijing - with HGA included - have put up a tremendously worthy 1509 points. Which means Dublin's remaining 6 players - including both of their CCs - have to 519 points to win. It's VERY doable, but not a sure thing either. That forward line went crazy - showing why they made up half of the All-Worlds Forward line squad. But WATCH THIS SPACE! This could be a thriller!

A reasonable score but not quite enough I don't think. Would need a real stinker from one of Dublin's CCs to get us back in the game.

Holzman, while you lay there, hopefully as uncomfortable as you possibly can be, I want you to listen to me. I want you to digest this because before I leave in 1 week with your WXV Premiership, I have a lot of things I want to get off my chest.
I don’t hate you, Holz. I don’t even dislike you. I do like you. I like you a hell of a lot more than I like most people in this competition.
I hate this idea that you’re the best. Because you’re not. I’m the best. I’m the best in the world. There’s one thing you’re better at than I am and that’s kissing Purple 77's ass.
You’re as good as kissing Purple's ass as CrowsFan was. I don’t know if you’re as good as Jroo though. He’s a pretty good ass kisser. Always was and still is.
Whoops! I’m breaking the fourth wall!
[waves to the camera]
I am the best XVs coach in the world.
I’ve been the best ever since day one when I registered on this website. And I’ve been vilified and hated since that day, because Colliwobblers saw something in me that nobody else wanted to admit. That’s right, I’m a Colliwobblers guy. You know who else was a Colliwobblers guy? Nails. And he split just like I’m splitting. But the biggest difference between me and Nails is I’m going to leave with the WXV Premiership.
I’ve grabbed so many of Purple 77’s brass rings that it’s finally dawned on me that they're just that, they’re completely imaginary. The only thing that’s real is me and the fact that day in and day out, for almost six years, I have proved to everybody on FanFooty that I am the best at trading, the best at drafting, even on Discord! Nobody can touch me!
And yet no matter how many times I prove it, I’m not regarded as the face of the competition. I’m barely promoted. I don't get to be in any Elxam leagues. I’m certainly not in any crappy leagues on the DT/SC boards. I’m not a m0nty medalist. I’m not in the FanFooty Hall of Fame. I don't get to be interviewed by nas on The Good Oil on Coaches. But the fact of the matter is, I should be.
And trust me, this isn’t sour grapes. But the fact that Holz has 5 stars and I don't makes me sick!
Oh hey, let me get something straight. Those of you who are cheering me right now, you are just as big a part of me leaving as anything else. Because you’re the ones who are reading those interviews by nas. You’re the ones that comment in those award threads that I'm not involved in. And then during December when I'm on holiday, you try to come to me for advice so you can profit from your trades because you’re too lazy to watch games of footy and do some research.
I’m leaving with the WXV Premiership on August 26th. And hell, who knows, maybe I’ll go defend it on BigFooty. Maybe…I’ll go back to Ultimate Footy.
[looks at the camera and waves]
Hey, Shihan7, how you doing?
The reason I’m leaving is you people. Because after I’m gone, you’re still going to devote your time to this website. I’m just a spoke on the wheel. The wheel is going to keep turning and I understand that. Purple 77 is going to get all the plaudits despite himself. He’s a WXV admin who should be a FanFooty admin. You know why he’s not an FF admin? Because he surrounds himself with glad-handed, nonsensical, douchebag yes men, like ossie85, who’s going to tell him everything he wants to hear, and I’d like to think that maybe this website will be better after Purple 77 is deactivated. But the fact is, it’s going to be taken over by his idiotic daughter and his doofus son-in-law and the rest of his stupid family.
Let me tell you a personal story about Purple 77, alright? We do this whole anti bully campaign...
[microphone cuts off]
Just got out the spa so very relaxed.
Great season jing went out with a very good score so got to hang your head high.
Well this got interesting!
The edgelord is such a punk!

I sympathise with the Adamant cause.
You know, we've been calling Adamant the Edgelord this entire time, but his entire persona is much more akin to CM Punk than Edge. Levi is shook.

You cows and your gifs are wasting all my mobile data

Well done Holz, too good on the day.
Would've been nice for 'Jing to get into that maiden GF but wasn't to be! Picture of consistency all year but just a few too many passengers this week meant we couldn't keep up with Dublin's star power. Offseason starts now!
With a pipebomb to kick off grand final week!
This gonna be good 8).
Whilst it was a very well written and articulate post with a hint of sarcasm; I actually think Adamant is telling the truth from the heart. Many of the points made are startlingly true. I think Adamant meant this is a serious tone. :-X
and this is why they now have a concussion rule in WXV's
:P
Congrats on the win Ada, thoroughly deserved mate.
now kick Holz's pie ass this weekend

Cheers Rico. Good effort to make back-to-back prelims considering the injuries and underperformers you guys had.
And don't worry, The Edgelord will.
I'm praying for a draw.
Bellchambers is out this week
Does that mean Toronto will have to play OOP ruck?
That sucks, being the GF
Big break for Dublin
Leuenberger to the rescue.
