Lachie Plowman

Birthday - 11/9/94
191cm/86kg
Calder Cannons
Price/Position - $174,700 Def

Drafted Round 1 Pick 3 GWS

Plowman is a midfielder come key position defender who missed this year's Under 18 Championships due to an elbow injury. His form prior to that was impressive, representing the Cannons and playing in the Vic Metro Under 18's as a 16 year old. Lachie's DT scores in the TAC this year were 65, 57, 68, 46, 0 (presumably the game when he did his elbow), 60 and 68. Despite the modest disposal counts he was named in the best for 6/7 games. Given that GWS are in need of some warm bodies down back Lachie should get his fair share of opportunities. Don't expect any high scores though.

Kevin Sheehan says: “Tall defender with terrific ability to win the contested ball in the air and at ground level. Poised with the ball in his hands and makes smart decisions. Was in great form early in the year with the Australian Under 18 team and Calder before injury ruled him out of the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships. Made a strong return in the last fortnight with Cannons and was among their best on the weekend with 17 disposals and six marks. AIS-AFL Academy member.”

Wow, that's out of leftfield. I can barely find anything on him. Not helped by the fact there's a guy with the same name playing for the Dragons. Basically all I could find was this picture... :-[

JBs-Hawks

Jake Stringer

Birthday - 25/4/94
191cm/91kg
Bendigo Pioneers
Price/Position - $165,700 Fwd

Drafted Round 1 Pick 5 Western Bulldogs

A badly broken leg derailed Stringer's 2011 season but the big power forward made headlines on his return to the Pioneers, kicking 9.7 against the Northern Knights. Prior to his injury he was used more as a utility player and has shown an ability to be hard at the contest and win his own ball. Stringer was selected in this year's TAC Cup Team Of The Year, following in the footsteps of former Bendigo players Dustin Martin, Joel Selwood and Brent Guerra. In a game last month against the Oakleigh Charges he had 17 kicks, 5 handballs, 9 tackles, 3 marks, 2 frees for and kicked 2.1 for a total of 121 DT points. In other games this season he scored 168, 112, 103, 61, 83, 95, 98 and 106 (Ave: 103.2). There isn't anyone quite like Stringer at the Bulldogs so he's a good chance of playing games in 2013.

Kevin Sheehan says: “Tall forward/defender who excels one-on-one with his marking and body positioning. His kicking is both penetrating and precise, whether forward or back, and he has good speed off the mark. Thrives on the contest and tackles strongly. Overcome serious leg injury last season to play some excellent football for Bendigo Pioneers this year and represent Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. AIS-AFL Academy graduate.”

#23
Jimmy Toumpas

Birthday - 2/1/94
183cm/77kg
Woodville West Torrens
Price/Position - $170,200 Mid

Drafted Round 1 Pick 4 Melbourne

In a draft which will boast many quality midfielders, Toumpas is regarding as being on top of the list. He is comfortable kicking off both feet, has plenty of speed matched with skillful disposal and decision making. He came to prominence with a stellar performance in the 2011 SANFL Grand Final, kicking a number of goals. Was awarded the captaincy of the Under 18 S.A state team this year and was also named in the the Under 18 All Australian team after averaging 22.2 disposals a game ( slightly below the likes of Whitfield, Kennedy, Wines and Hrovat ).

Those stats are a bit misleading though because his carnival was cut short by a hip injury which required surgery. Due to his injury Toumpas only managed 5 games in the SANFL for DT scores of 42, 70, 66, 65 and 99. He will need to compete with golden boy Jack Viney in order to force his way into the Melbourne midfield but hopefully they can squeeze both of them in.

Kevin Sheehan says: “Energetic medium midfielder with outstanding work ethic and big aerobic capacity. Terrific ball winner and weights his kicks extremely well. Impressive for SA in 2011 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and in the senior SANFL Grand Final, when he was among the best for 2011 Premiers, Woodville West Torrens. Won All Australian honours this year averaging 22.2 disposals. AIS-AFL Academy Graduate".
