Captains = bad in draft league. Only one person gets to have Swan. You surely have a better chance of winning $250 if you jump in on a public league rather than go up against the guys on here.
Also, don't you need 10 teams to qualify for a $250 prize?

It's 10. AND this is more for fun than $250. Rather see someone from FF win the $250 than someone from the "public"
Happy to turn captains off, but if you want to win $250 sure join a public league - BUT BE WARNED
all it takes is two mates to join a public league slip through a bunch of uneven trades ( if not enough team coaches log on to block them)
one team will be super strong and win and they split the $250 :)
Tried to join colli entered the league code then went to a register page, but when I hit submit it said league code doesn't exist and whenever I go back in it it goes to register page. Annoying. Am I in colli

just consider what i said about public leagues....
I came accross it in SC GOLD draft game a couple of years ago in a public league where mates traded all the best players from one team to the other for all his worst players.
4 coaches had to log on within a couple of days mid week to vote to block the trades, they didn't so all the trades went through.
that team won surprise surprise.
and this was done with NO $250 up for offer.

Sh**, you're right. I just read through the rules and it allows collusion between two or more sides to take unfair advantage of the trading system. What should they do to fix it, though? A veto vote by any other player?
they cant fix it the only way to fix it is to have trades approved by the one administrator but no one would agree to that anyway as who can trust that one person in a public league.
you could get lucky but even if teams coming 3rd 4th 5th who have a chance but cant beat the top teams aren't friends there is nothing to stop them colluding.
but then they cant count on the other one to share the $250 :) so less likely...
better to be like me and forget the $250 and join a league for the love not the money and at least if it is a respectable league of FF members the best man will win with no collusion rubbish...

no cost to enter, same as SC and DT draft setup, but sportsbet scoring is used. $250 prize per draft league :)

well that's because you know it won't get finished before the season starts :) miracle if it does...
with 90 seconds you have time to pick and everyone knows they have to be on and if they are not we don't have to wait long for them to be autopicked.
but for $250 everyone should be there ready to go :)

ok well a few tips since there is a $250 prize i will help you out a bit :)
1. pick all your defenders first.
2. make sure you get all the taggers.
3. guys that kick goals are worthless in this competition.
4. there are no captains so there is no point picking decent midfielders
5. let me win.
OK that was a joke :)
so seriously you will do great.
some facts - check the scoring but the major differences = goal = 12 points / tackle = 6 points
pick the best players available but you have a long list to pick so you need some balance, cant pick all your mids first or you may not have a starting ruckman and you need 2.
likewise you will have a week defence and fwd line if you leave them all to last.
but you will see what players are being taken with every pick and in the draft you can click on and check every other team as you go. so you will have plenty of info on what everyone else is doing.
DPP is important in these teams. very very Useful

Totally different way of thinking as opposed to looking for bargains to squeeze in the cap.
Listed up to about 50 so far but that might only be about 4 players and they have got some shower in the top 220 too.
It's doing my head in, but it's all fun and should keep me busy for a while.
Would be good if you could split the players into their bye rounds as well as their postions. and yeah seems like DPP is going to be gold
yeah the top 100 odd picks are obvious, it is knowing of the gems that are under priced or probably breakouts who won't appear next on the remaining players list later in the draft that sets the teams apart.
Yeah i'm getting to them, but i'm still getting my head around only having about 4 players out of the top 50.
Bye time is also going to be interesting, very hard to plan for that. ???
Still, i shall have fun learning :)
remember this is 100% about league win not overall, byes are only 3 rounds of the season.

the time limit for picks is locked ONLY WAY TO GO.
The date is set but not locked, that was the time I thought it would take to fill this up. Slower than I thought, people seem to think they have more chance winning $250 against the public in public leagues.

If it fills in time the date is set unless most want to change it. hopefully we fill it in time.

I got to say that's pretty poor form guys, not backing yourselves to beat decent opponents?
I warned you about people cheating in public leagues, can't say I will have much sympathy for any of you once you come on here later in the season complaining how someone in your public league traded all his guns to another team mid week when no one comes on (to block trades) and that team with all the guns won and you didn't get your $250 anyway.
The two teams that traded split the $250 :)
good luck tho may you find honest spuds to compete with rather than cheats that know what they are doing, how many people that aren't serious about fantasy football anyway do you expect to find that will play this comp?

it's all good no one had to join MY league, just be wary of public leagues i am saying i have seen it all before in the draft DT and SC I have done for the past few years and that without any prize and people still did it.
even if it just the guy coming last giving up and giving what guns he does have to the guy he has gotten along with best through the season.
anyway good luck to all. You can leave a league and join another by the way you just can't join 2 :) but stick with the one you have if it is private.

You can always push back the draft a couple of days.
We manage to fill several other leagues in other comps and they have 18 coaches in them.
How many Centrebet Draft leagues are there in FF. Need to find out somehow what regulars are missing and PM them.

last resort, i think you can put into the public draft if your just missing a couple but as soon as you do that your draft time is locked so you would want to push it back abit.

nah keep it at 90 secs, it'll go quicker than that anyway......but it's good to have a bit extra time if you need it

There are captains in both the other drafts l was in (DT & SC), so l agree with it...............its a long time until 2nd picks and so many truly elite players are gone by then
yeah i was against having captains until i got pick 1 lol
no captains gives the top 2 a massive advantage. the snake draft is its own balance, with captains there is just no way to balance it.
hence them creating the option to turn it off FINALLY.
pick 6.....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
pick 6 is fine someone usually takes franklin and cox or goddard or rocky so you still get one of those elite few mids pick 8 on the other hand :(

Yeah i rate this team very highly, hibberd is a SC player GUN THERE, but still scored close to a ton in DT in nab cup this week?
Pendles was a great get he was well underpriced/valued in this. I got cotchin instead but pendles is far better with tackles counting for 6 points....
I also wanted hawkins, and bruest is a super star. j kennedy kicked 5 this week in nab cup great fwd line great mids, weak backs but maybe just a bit better than mine, your rucks minson is good, goldy is either going to be a 2011 superstar of a 2012 superspud but still a good pickup that late.

I really like Coyote's team. And Colli's is very good too - picked up quite a few gun mids.

yes well a shame some missed, i will be a little more flexible in allowing them trades, obviously i will only approve very even trades to keep the comp fair for all, but these guys who drafted 10 mids are going to need to trade premium mids for lesser backs and fwds and rucks just out of necessity.
might run the trades they propose if and when they come back and try to fix their teams past the group on this thread for approval.

3 of my backmen should play midfield this year and hopefully that gives me an edge. I went too hard at the backs too early but i hope Hodge/Cooney/Sandi can make up for it and be x-factors for me

Did you notice that SydneyRox had automatic selections but still ended up with a gun team? lol. The only potential problem he has is with his rucks, but there must still be a few in the pool.

I'm willing to let go of the 17th best defender from last season (Reilly) for a good mid (120+ average) :)
i guess the guys who got more mid depth at elite level than they need can trade for fwds or def now or just try hold out until other teams have mids get injured, then demand their price for the mid they have to spare :)

are you really putting those guys up for trade CW? im keen on 2 of them but what do you want?
Some interesting players didn't get picked up: L Shiels, T Adams, Jamar, Pedersen, Ben Jacobs, etc. It should still be easy enough to get a decent team. Some of those guys that were overlooked could turn out to be guns.
Hell, being a first draft that was more stressful than i thought. :o
Next year i shall put a bit more effort into my pre draft planner as i gave up after listing the first 100 players or so and decide to do the draft on the fly.
Purple Nurlple and CW have very nice teams that will be hard to beat's, me thinks
well that was more stressful and harder then i imagined it would be sometimes i found instead of planing a pick i had to wing it due to running out of time
i was all over the shop with no real strategy and i think it shows in my team (except i think my Def is killer)
but in the end i am happy with my team it's got the riskiness to either go bang in either way....lol

I assume it's also possible to run without a 2nd ruck if you like - and just take the AE score each week instead of a ruck's score. This would work OK if you had four strong mids on your bench.
I would also like to know what happens during the finals -- whether teams that have been knocked out of the finals can affect the outcome of finals by making trades with teams that are in the finals. It's probably better that teams who do not make the finals, or who are knocked out, take no further part in the game - either by trading or by releasing players into the draft pool.

My guess is Colli will need to be extra vigilant on dodgy trade requests at that time. Teams need to remain the same or close to the same as they have during the year would be my opinion.
I think it's possible to go without a 2nd playing ruck if you have good bench mids like you do, SR, but if you get an injury anywhere other than the mids you'll have a problem.

I re read the rules today, and I cant see it being anything but lowest bench player score (besides zero) is used to cover and onfield donut?

i put the fwds and defs up as bait for the teams who drafted too many elite mids on autodraft.
if one really needs a fwd or def i might pick up a better mid 6 than cunnington - that is my theory.

I think having a RUCK #2 is better than taking the lowest scoring bench players score for your ruck #2 score every week?
not sure you need a ruck #3 tho if this is the case with auto emergency.
however plenty of players get rested and plenty get short term injuries, so me i'll try keep cover for every line on my bench.
as for approving or blocking trades;
we should discuss this.
My thoughts are a trade can go through if the likely average of both players in the trade have a differential of no greater than 10 points?
however this gets a little tricky if someone desperately needs a defender and is willing to give up a mid who scores more than a defender in order to get the defender he needs.
bit of common sense and discretion will be required.
MY MAIN POINT WILL BE THAT A TRADE CANNOT GO THROUGH IF IT GIVES A TEAM A SIGNIFICANT ADVANTAGE OVER OTHER TEAMS BY WINNING THE TRADE BY A HUGE MARGIN

Edit: Actually, it might still cause some confusion; when you go into the 'Completed Draft' section it still mentions Rabid Hamsters taking picks and Rabid Hamsters is in the drop-down menu too. :P

he has the best midfield in the competition hands down i reckon but his other lines need a LOT of work - missed the draft i think....
no big deal if he is a ghost ship we have one less competitior for the prize, but hopefule he will show up and trade his team into good shape, team could compete well if he trades some midfield depth out for one premium in each of his other 3 lines he will be looking pretty good.
suckling hurts him, but still some solid smokie defenders in the pool...

I'm still playing against a few dt guns but I got the cheating thing covered in this league I think. If people want to go down that road they may find they've bitten off more than they can chew. We can play nice or we can play nasty, either way I think one of us will win. I still have a much better chance than in your league Colli.

He'd have to make his entire bench apart from howlett be non players too as it's your lowest scoring emergency who's score you get.

I got Howlett on my bench... I put Stevie J in the mids then trent mckenzie won't play and I'll make my other benchies not play either.

It all depends on how attached he is to his bench players. Armitage, Ellard and Young aren't spuds, but if he wanted to he could risk it and trade them out. It could be worth it, esp. considering the reasonable depth in the mids. Shiels, Wallis, Libba, etc, are in the waiver pool. Lobbe is his 2nd ruck, so maybe he'll take Howlett's score in the ruck if Lobbe doesn't get named.

ok so we only get one emergency to come in, regardless of how many players are missing. i had 3 out and got Zaka's score and two donuts.
i didn't realize it worked that way - pretty flowering stupid IMO but can't be changed now.
Good luck in finals, guys. I find it interesting that Coyotes had pick 10 in the draft and has managed to have a gun team nonetheless. Also think R-Dogs and Colli will be hard to beat in finals. Very hard to pick a winner at this stage, but probably Coyotes to win against R-Dogs (unless they meet in prelim, of course).

My first draft comp but considering i like the occasional punt, i kind of make it my business to try and know as much as i can about teams and players, especially pre-season. (up 8k this season 8). My draft strat was to get best dpp 's so i wouuld have cover. Missed out on gun mids with draw so built other lines first then picked pontential breakout mids last. First 2 picks (10,11) was Roughhead ,Gibbs. Also made sure to have three prem rucks because they are always breaking down. Maybe i just got lucky, and maybe my strategy would of changed entirlely if i was enticed buy the #1 pick. It shall be interesting next year.

Gamble responsibly. I use my own shrewd multi method usually on pick your own lines 3-4 matches over afl/ nrl. Always keep a kitty(i started with 300 and now it is 2k) and dont bet for the sake of the punt. If no matches warrant the odds for the week Dont Punt!. Also you need a lot of spare time, foxtel IQ so you can watch every game, and a understanding misses haha. It helps if you throw her some of the winnings from time to time. :P Also dont punt if you want less stress in your life lol ;)
I could go into more detail but wont, all i can say is you have to work out your own system that you feel comfortable with and gamble RESPONSIBLY. Dont get greedy with long shots. its a long process thats taken me all season to build too with a couple of setbacks.

Just wondering, can SYG and ROOMAX do trades even though their teams have been knocked out of finals? I mean, I don't particularly want them to but I was wondering if they still have the ability to make trades.
