Everybody's favourite knockout competition is back!
To quote the great former admin - ossie85, here's how it works:
Quote from: ossie85 on February 08, 2013, 06:43:48 PM
A simple game...
The lowest scoring team is eliminated each week, until we have a winner!
You can get immunity from elimination if you had the highest score the week before (up until round 10) - in which case the 2nd lowest scoring team is eliminated.
So, who has what it takes to be World Idol?
Eliminated TeamsR1: London
R2: Cape Town
R3: Moscow
R4: Buenos Aires
R5: Toronto
R6: Tokyo
R7: Cairo
R8: Dublin
R9: PNL
R10: Berlin
R11: Christchurch
R12: New York
R13: Mexico City
R14: Rio
R15: New Delhi
R16: Pacific
R17: Beijing
Winner: Seoul
Heatbreakingly close last year, here's hoping to go all the way
Firstly, major apologies for the delay in this. I was quite busy last week and just had no chance to get anything done.
Round 1
Unfortunately for London, they put in an effort they're almost certainly embarrassed by and it was something they'd hope to never repeat.
Round 2
If you told be that Cairo would be the last African team standing in World Idol in 2017, I'd have believed you. Yeah that's right, Cape Town have made a rather unexpected early exit from this battle royal.
Cape Town with an early exit! New York would breath a sigh of relief

We don't need to aim anywhere, the team we've assembled will win it all on its own.
If I were you, I'd be focusing on how pie dublin are, particularly when its been proven you cannot perform in finals.

my finals record in the last 2 years.
is
174 Won Round 1
147 Won Prelim
147 Won Premiership
160 Won Round 1
136 Loss Prelim
Average 153
I have had 1 bad game in 2 years (or should i say 1 NDT caliber game).
142 Won Round 1
133 Won Semi
156 Won Prelim
136 Lost Grand final
Average 142
basically you had 1 lucky week in the prelim and were lucky to make it out of the Semi's.
essentially it comes down to this, my team is far superior but if i catch you on a lucky week and im having one of my poor weeks then you will beat me. My average is almost better then your best score.

Did someone say a new feature to World Idol? Oh yes, it's happening! :o We're now gonna give a shoutout to the team that might want to just do that little bit better to avoid being the star of our show next week.
Round 3
This week we say goodbye to our Russian friends as Moscow bow out of World Idol after a less than inspiring performance and we're not sure who'll be more disappointed about it - Jukes, Torp, Putin or the playing group!
In the firing line:
Buenos Aires haven't been setting the world on fire after sending Scott Pendlebury back to Toronto and they barely survived this week, so they might want to lift their game or face the boot.
I have a feeling Vladimir will be the one revving up the boys this week. :-X
#notthird
Griffen - 10
Waite - 4
McVeigh - ?
Wells - soon
Roughead - 6-8
Can't see us holding on until these guys are back.
Can't see myself picking the correct captain any week this year.

Brayden Fiorini perma-captain surely?
Round 4
We called it and it happened, Buenos Aires have finally fallen victim to their consistently poor scoring. Honestly, we should probably commend them on surviving this long but instead we'll smile and wave.
In the firing line:
Last week we mentioned ol' Scott Pendlebury who returned back to Toronto - rumour has it they're contemplating giving him a bit of a rest so he can carry them for the rest of the season. Big if true, but that option could spell the end of their 2017 Idol days.
#notfourth
Round 5
The firing line strikes again! Toronto just couldn't keep up with superstar Scott Pendlebury strangely nowhere near his best which resulted in a performance that Idol just won't tolerate.
In the firing line:
PNL seem to be just doing enough week after week to survive and even get some victories. That kind of luck has to run out eventually and we think that it could happen in Round 6.
#notfifth
Hey, we have survived so long which is an achievement in itself :P. Time to keep on trekking along for another few rounds hopefully as thought last week would be the week we go.
Round 6
Did somebody say sayonara? Oh, it was the cruel mistress we know as World Idol to the folk from Tokyo. They were one of many teams to have a poor week, and unfortunately they were the worst of those still standing.
In the firing line:
We went astray this week with PNL proving us wrong, but the focus shifts to Beijing where the pressure is truly on after they've amazingly slumped to 1-5 despite showing some real grit.

... but for how long?
Round 8For a while now, people have wondered the fate of our Irish friends in this much loved competition. It's been no secret that a certain team has struggled to stay afloat in one of the most fierce contests the world has seen and any wondered if these were the famous last words of a coach on a sinking ship:
Quote from: Holz on May 10, 2017, 01:08:18 PM
Thanks Cairo you saved me
Another simply had to ask the question:
Quote from: Purple 77 on May 14, 2017, 08:17:07 PM
... but for how long?
Heh.
And then, just because, another coach simply decided to put a certain fact out there and you know what, he predicted this moment well over two weeks ago. It's become the choice words of many a rival coach and Worlds fan, but today, we finally have proof:
Quote from: Ricochet on April 28, 2017, 12:52:55 PM
Dublin are pie
Need I say more?
hahahahahaha
#EIGHTH!!
Massive upset!
Only takes a bad week from New Delhi and it'd be anyone's game
Was always going to happen.
You cant go young, sack your bench and thrn get 3 big injuries.
Oconnor weits plowman went about 280 points under what i would expect from those three.
I tip pacific for this comp
Round 9
Well, they fought valiantly to last as long as they did, and they're probably fairly proud of making it this far, but it's the end of the line for PNL.
Round 10
It is with great pleasure sadness that we announce the exit of Berlin from World Idol for yet another, maybe next time friends.

We did well to last so long! Shame we didn't last longer than our rivals Berlin :(.
So we have our 'top 8' for 2017.
New Delhi, Christchurch, Beijing, Rio, Pacific, New York, Mexico and Seoul.
Predict the boot order?
Who wins from here?
Surprise winner or early exit on the way?
Give us your thoughts!

I for one feel like this is BS game and that Cairo needs to be eliminated ASAP
Rio for mine, their bad weeks ain't that bad
Season 1: Champions League winner
Season 2: WXV reserves premier
Season 3: World Idol winner
Round 11
Unfortunately for Christchurch, it just wasn't meant to be. Maybe they pray a little harder next year to go a bit further.
Round 12
This is pretty much just adding insult to injury here, as New York sensationally bow out after a week to forget.
Let's go Beijing!

Round 13
I guess you could say the World Idol sun has finally set on Mexico City's time in the competition as they struggled to hang with the other remaining teams.
Last time we had an update about the top 8, and we've lost 3 teams since then and we now know our top 5.
New Delhi, Christchurch, Beijing, Rio, Pacific, New York, Mexico and Seoul.
Have your predictions changed?

go the jing!! :D
Round 14
This week we're putting an end to the fun times over at Rio who were well off the pace set by the others vying for the World Idol crown.
This week we'll find out who doesn't get a medal and misses out on a place!
Round 15
They may be on track to be minor premiers, but New Delhi's World Idol 2017 run is over as they fail to place.
That just leaves Beijing, Pacific and Seoul.
The people have been behind Beijing until now. Has that changed? Are more jumping on the bandwagon? Let us know!

I think everyone should be happy regardless who wins. Good to see the last pretender eliminated.
for me though its still go Jing go.
Seoul have been on a massive high for too long now
Time for that to end this week vs us :P
Go Jing!
None of these teams look like throwing a sub 140. Anyone's game from here.

Well, my friend, looks can be deceiving. We expected a fierce contest with the final 3 all hungry for World Idol glory but what we got was
Pacific simply not putting up a fight as they take Idol bronze in 2017.
So, this is it - Beijing vs Seoul. Two go in, but only one comes out as kings of the world. Whose side are you on?
Quote from: Nige on July 24, 2017, 12:51:56 PM

Tough for me, coz I've been a Seoul fan for a couple years now. But Beijing might have the better story behind them, so will back them in here to get something out of a disappointing season!
Seoul for the World Idol, WXV premiership double. Marchbank a solid chance for the rising star while Paddy has the Stynes wrapped up. Weta for reserves premiers though.
Go Jing Go
Zorko suspended for the weekend won't do our chances any favour :(
Greene missing for us :(
Battle of the Asian superpowers ;)
Round 17
This isn't fun to say, but it's really just been one of those years for Beijing where nothing has gone right. Unfortunately they just weren't close enough which means...
Congratulation to the Seoul Magpies, the winners of World Idol for 2017!
The question is, can they do the Idol/Premiership double?
It was a helluva ride Beijing, but Seoul just looked incapable of scoring low enough to be eliminated in the second half of the year!
An incredible effort, congrats to Seoul!
It was a good run and just another thing to show how stiff we've been this season :'(
But congrats to Seoul! Going to be hard to beat in finals.
Congratulation's Dangerfield for winning the World Idol.
bad luck for this week though.

Certainly have built up a scarily young side, might be the next dynasty with this being the first of many awards potentially :o.
