Has mathew Egan Retired? or is he an option for a spot on the bench in the back line

The last word I heard from Geelong re Egan (and it was late last year) was "unlikely to play AFL again". Its a pity as I too got excited when I saw his rock bottom price for a non rookie playing for a decent team.
