GEELONG midfielder Jesse Stringer was arrested early Friday morning over the alleged assault of a young woman.

The 21-year-old was taken in to custody and questioned by police following an incident at a Grovedale residence.

The Victoria Police media department released the following statement.

"Police were called to a Grovedale address just after 7am this morning in regards to an alleged assault," police media spokeswoman Melissa Seach said.

"A 21-year-old Grovedale man was arrested and released pending further inquiries."

The Cats confirmed the arrest, releasing a statement on Saturday morning.

"Geelong player Jesse Stringer was the subject of a complaint made to police on Friday," the statement read.
