NEWS: Hamish McIntosh has been dealt a blow in his return from a recurring knee injury. McIntosh will sit out for up to three weeks after having surgery to remove fluid from the back of his knee. "It's the same knee, different problem but it's very minor," coach Chris Scott said. "It was something the surgery can fix quite quickly the surgeon tells us."

NEWS: Hamish McIntosh is confident he will be fully fit by the start of the pre-season competition. The 28-year-old had LARS surgery to replace the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee back in August. "I imagine I'll be playing in the NAB Cup," McIntosh told AFL.com.au. "I've been training with the main group but just doing the non-contact work. After Christmas, as long as it keeps going well and keeps improving as it has, I'd imagine that on the first day back I'll be into full contact, completely out of rehab."

NEWS: McIntosh has been traded to the Cats in exchange for the Cats' second-round NAB AFL Draft pick. In the past 2 seasons McIntosh has had both his Achilles tendons and LARS surgery to artificially replace his right posterior cruciate ligament operted on. The 28 year old does not come without risk, but he will likely line up as Geelong's Number 1 Ruck option.

NEWS: McIntosh will take no further part in the 2012 season after electing to have LARS surgery on his knee. Director of medical services Steve Saunders said "This procedure will restore stability in Hamish's knee and in doing so, it will also help to ensure all of the other structures in the knee remain healthy. By doing this, we are giving Hamish every opportunity to reach his full potential and continue playing the AFL football that he's capable of for a long time to come."

NEWS: McIntosh is likely have his first competitive hitout this weekend at VFL level. McIntosh has not played since Round 7 when he injured his knee.

NEWS: If Mcintosh wants a spot back in the side after Round 15 when he fully recovers from a knee injury, he is going to have to do it as a forward. North Melbourne coach Brad Scott says "I think that these days against certain opposition I think there's a possibility of [playing two ruckmen and three key forwards] but we look at Hamish as being one of those key forwards. I don't think you can play primarily or solely as a ruckman these days without the ability to go forward and that is if you choose to play two (ruckmen). Hamish's form before he got injured was pretty good so he's a quality player, but again he just falls into the mix of [forwards] (Aaron) Black, (Cameron) Pedersen, (Aaron) Edwards, that if they're in form they'll come in, if they're not others will play ahead of them."
| ||||
NEWS: Kangaroos club doctor Steve Saunders said "Scans have revealed Hamish sustained a lateral meniscus tear to his knee and will require arthroscopic surgery. This is obviously very frustrating for Hamish because he was close to returning to play from a previous injury. His rehabilitation time is expected to be four to six weeks, which we will be able to confirm after the surgery."
| ||||
NEWS: North Melbourne coach Brad Scott said "We think it's probably going to be one to two (weeks), but he thinks he's a good chance this week. We'll give him every chance but we certainly won't take any risks."

NEWS: Mcintosh suffered the knee injury in Round 7 and told kangaroos.com.au in an exclusive video interview "You're always scared when you go down. I was in a lot of pain actually and it hurt a fair bit. I was really worried about what I'd done and to know today there hasn't been too much damage and I am still an outside chance of playing, it's all positive."
