NEWS: Melbourne veteran Aaron Davey turned heads with his performance on the club's Darwin training camp, thrusting him back into calculations for early-season senior selection. "He's had some real injury trouble and he's probably found the pre-season and the workload pretty tough and it's been an area that he's obviously needed to work on," vice-captain Nathan Jones said. "He's really been trying to work hard on the fitness and get his body right and build the strength back in his legs. At the moment, I see him looking refreshed and pretty excited about the year ahead, so it's almost like the weight of the world is off his shoulders."

NEWS: Davey will miss the remainder of the season with a foot fracture. Davey has had a poor season with injury and form to blame. He seems to be on notice that next year is pivotal to his AFL career. Melbourne Coach Mark Neeld "For Aaron, it's a long-term injury, with his season over. That's news that no one wants to hear. Aaron's been in and out of the side with form and injury concerns. He played a good game in the VFL, and now he has a fracture in the foot. The message for Aaron is that you always try to find the positive - having an injury at this time, his rehab will ensure that he'll be right for day one of the pre-season. It's going to be a really important pre-season for Aaron, so he can make sure that he completes a full one and gives himself every chance of playing well next year. So that's what we'll be doing there."

NEWS: Davey has been dropped from Melbourne's Round 2 side to take on West Coast after a poor performance in Round 1. He has also been embroiled in controversy with the AFL this week, after allegedly being named as the source of Jason Misfud (AFL community engagement manager), leaking the information that Melbourne Coach Mark Neeld was treating indigenous players at the club differently to their non-indigenous teammates. This statement has been categorically denied by Aaron Davey and concluded to be false.
| ||||
NEWS: It has been suggested that Jason Mifsud, the AFL's national community engagement manager and most senior indigenous employee suggested the race related allegations on Mark Neeld came from claims from a Melbourne indigenous player. This has led to the the suggestion it has come from Aaron Davey. but Davey recently commented that,"I am proud of Melbourne's support network for our indigenous players, which I believe is the best in the AFL." He has denied the comments have come from him and the AFL will not release the source.

NEWS: 2011 was simply put not good enough. Davey was looking a serious chance of being dropped and we actually believe injury saved face. New Head Coach Mark Need has had a private one on one talk discussing the role Davey needs to play in 2012 and not repeat what happened in 2011. This sounds like code for 'lift your game or you will be playing with the magoos.'.
| ||||
NEWS: Several years ago Davey was the creator of the Forward Tag. Chasing down Half Back Flankers and setting up goals with his deadly accurate foot. It's expected he will return to a similar role in 2012, but will be monitored in NAB Cup action to see how he adjusts to the new Melbourne structure.
| ||||
NEWS: He hit Mitch Morton high in Round 22 with an elbow and has accepted a 1 week suspension with an early plea.
| ||||
NEWS: He has not played since Round 10 with a knee injury. He has been completely out of touch with AFL football this season before the injury and talk was that he was going to be dropped to the VFL anyway. He has gone the long way around but at least saved face.
| ||||
NEWS: Davey will miss the next six to eight weeks with a knee injury. This is terrible news as right now Davey needs to go back to the Magoos & get some touch. Not sit on the pine recovering. He has been absolutely struggling of late highlighted especially by a play in a game recently where he ran back with the flight of the ball & did not commit, pulling out & avoiding contact. This infuriates coaches but on the opposite end, praises are sung to players when they do run back into contact.
